This is a review for the Mailbox Peak trail. The checking in process for both Yelp and AllTrails was a bit off in the area. Olallie SP is just across the I-90 from the peak trails. Also if you use the AllTrails GPS to get to the trail, do not use the GPS for the loop of the old and new trail, as it will take you back into a large acreage subdivision, that closer to the Mt. Terefie Waterfall trails. This is one of many trails, one of my coworkers recommended shortly after I arrived in the area, last fall. He was right about making sure you're in good shape before attempting this one, part of the reason I waited till this spring to do it, plus it started snowing in the higher elevations, before I felt ready to try it last fall. This is rated hard on AllTrails, and it is. Well worth it, some amazing views on the way up, lots of zag zagging throughout, lots of beautiful woods and wildflowers on the new trail heading up, once the old and new trail combine about 1 1/2 miles from the top it get hella steep, with one part being using a trail over flattened rocks, plenty of signage throughout to keep you on track, at least on the new trail, and this part of the old trail. This is a serious hike of over 8 miles, so be prepared. I highly recommend a full camelback full of water and snacks, great ideas for snacks are beef jerky, nuts and fruit, all of which help with protein, sugars, and electrolytes to keep your body nourished and hydrated, keeping your energy levels up. It was quite enjoyable was you get past the very steep hike as you get close to the peak. Also highly recommend hiking poles, especially for the trek down the very very steep old trail. At the peak there is a mailbox with a very full box and lots of stickers, as well as signage about the history, plenty of areas around it to take a break, have a meal, and enjoy the views of the Cascades, I-90, and area lakes, being over 4000' elevation, it was cool to watch the passing clouds enshroud the peaks surrounding Mailbox peak. Quite an experience. After experiencing the old/new trail loop, I would highly recommend just sticking with the new trail both ways. Why? Well the old trail isn't as well marked, making difficult to navigate, as well as being steep as hell, with very little if any zigzagging to help with the descent. It was worth doing once, but unless you're a masochist or working on extreme workout, it's not enjoyable. Plus since it's mainly a hemlock forest on that part, there's not a lot of understory foliage or wildlife or flowers. It's not maintained like the new trail, so many people have made their own trails, making it hard to tell if you're on the right track or not. Just my advice, but enjoy the hard enough hike on the new trail. There are a few parking options with good signage for directions. This is a popular hike, so best to go early on weekends. It wasn't difficult on a mid day mid week hike. I look forward to doing it again this summer/fall, but sticking to the new trail. Happy hiking and Yelping! God bless and Cheers! read more

Olallie State Park is a 2,329 acre park is off of exit 38 on I90, just past North Bend. Great place to picnic, hike, fish, bike and explore the 2 waterfalls, Twin and Weeks. There are a few turnoffs for trails and parking lots. There are some gravel roads. Bike and hike trails are 6 miles long. Horseback trails are here, too. Dogs are allowed if on leash. The main parking area is where the ranger lives, with 2 bathrooms (1 person at a time) and a meadow right by Boxley Creek. The meadow has about 7 picnic tables and a couple BBQ stands. Snoqualmie River passes through, too. There's another picnic area with about another 6 picnic tables. Both picnic areas are available on a first come basis. I didn't see any that are covered. Parking is $10/day paid via cash or check or the ownership of a state park pass. 8 hours is the max limit on your visit, so no camping allowed. Open 6:30 am-dusk in the summer. The forest is right there. It feels like I was hundreds of miles away from civilization. I was the only person there when I visited this week besides a bicyclist that flew past me. Above Iron Horse Trail is the rock climbing area. A fishing license is required. I saw a note that kayaking is permitted only downstream of Twin Falls. I will be going back here this summer! read more

This is one of my favorite small state parks for strolls in the summer and fall. It has a decent area of parking, some picnic tables, access to the river, views of the falls, and a few meandering trails in the forest. Easy access off of the highway and all you need is a Discover Pass, which you can purchase ahead or on site. read more

A surprise find. You dont have to walk too far to hit the river. When we went the water was low enough where kids can hop around to the different rocks and landings. Shady and definitely rocky. Pack a lunch and let the kids have a fun time here (we saw jumping spiders and baby crawfish?) read more

If you're looking for a family-, dog-, out-of-shape- friendly trail, this is THE place for you. It's about a mile in level hike/walk and you're rewarded with beautiful trees, shrubs, rivers/creeks and the cascading fall! This is my go-to nature trail where you want to get out of the city and get a piece of Mother Nature without investing hours into a hike or lug around tons of gear. Honestly, all you need is a pair of sneakers and a water bottle and you're pretty much good-to-go. So for those who don't like heights, walking on the side of a mountain or tons of switchbacks, you'll enjoy this laid back, easy trail. Totally worth the drive out east. read more

I love discovering new places to hike. During a day out with my son we decided to go up around places near the Snoqualmie Pass. I had found Olallie State Park online at the Washington State Parks site. I was instantly intrigued by the mention of the twin falls. So we made our way there. The directions on the site are as follows: Driving Directions Located four miles east of North Bend, Wash., on the I-90 corridor in King County. From eastbound I-90: Take exit 38 and turn right at stop sign. Drive one half mile to park entrance on left. From westbound I-90: Take exit 38 and turn left at stop sign. Drive a half mile to park entrance on right. Directions like this make finding these amazing places a bit tedious, but we eventually made it! I believe there is more than one entrance but we found our entrance by the directions. We went around February so there was still a good amount of snow at the point where we started out. After a good hour and a half hike down we finally made it to the falls. It was breathtaking, amazing, and peaceful. I was in complete awe, if it weren't for my six year old son wanting to keep going I could have sat there for hours! The trees there are also quite amazing! We parked at the top of the park, so where we started there was snow and it was very interesting watching all the snow begin to disappear the further down we hiked. As with all mountains, parking at the top means a long grueling trip back up. Let's just say that we got an amazing workout! A really beautiful and amazing place, even if you aren't privy to hiking it is well worth the feat. read more

Such a great park! Went there with friends over the weekend and enjoyed great hiking, a picnic and some ice cold dipping in the river. The park has picnic tables tables, bathrooms, large grassy field, and BBQ pits (elevated), bring your own briquettes etc. The place is nice and includes squirrels, chipmunks and some fantastic birds! #would recommend to friends and family. Kid friendly too bu mus be cautious of rivers edge and the swift current. If bridge jumping is your thing be sure to go just beyond Dirty Hairy's Balcony and try that bridge. Excellent park and trails along the Snowqualmie River leading to The Twin Falls. The trails are incredible, follow the Twin Falls trail and head west which is a great run for 5 miles. Nature's finest views along the way, and the wild raspberries are everywhere. Stop at the river by the park entrance and walk onto the big rock near the falls, very cool. One of our favorite family spots, plenty of areas for exploring and picnics also. Enjoy! read more

A little off the beaten path to find(you drive past homes and on busy days parking would be on the road across from a house). The parking area is small and parking on the road is common. There was a toilet here, but being remodeled so just an outhouse. This is a busy trail, but there are lots of little paths down to the river. Some are more easily accessible than others. It's fairly flat along the river's edge, but then it goes into a treed area with large boulders. This is a slow climb area. Then you get to the switchbacks. They are uphill! At the top of this climb is a nice area to rest and look a the waterfall in the distance. There are several benches but the area has no fence/boundary in front and you will need to watch small kids here to keep them from falling. At this point we were unable to go farther to due a closed trail(land slide). We opted to go play at the river instead of driving farther up the road to hike from the back way. But in the future we will check out that option. The trails here meet up with other trails and you can get around quite well and make a day of hiking. We enjoyed this spot and hope to return in the summer to enjoy the river more. read more

Very easy hike on a well groomed trail that is a quick less than 1 hour hike to the falls. The falls are really beautiful and the bridge that goes over the them gives you an amazing view of the valley below. There really is no reason to pack a snack for this hike. Its really quick, maybe just bring some water. And no reason for boots, sneakers do fine here. Some of the stairs are missing on the path but its an outdoor trail, so who cares right? Beautiful state park, Came here for a hike. Went to twin falls. It's a fairly easy hike that takes you through the forest. You walk for a while and then all of sudden wow, the falls are right there. I recommend it if you have never been there, you should go. read more

The hike was easy and fun. Trail had lots of cool trees with weird roots. Chipmunks roaming freely. Beautiful views of the falls. Water was clear and cold. Hikers along the trails were friendly and I didn't have to get in anybody's face. Clean from pet poop, thanks to their owners. I enjoyed it and the hike was easy even though I had 27lbs. carrying on my back along with the water bottles and sandwiches. Wife would of enjoyed it, but due to morning sickness from being 6 weeks pregnant she left a trail of puke every 5-10 minutes, so we could find our way back to the car. But she honestly liked it. Jaidyn, the 11 year old complained at first because he wanted to be at home on the XBOX, but hiked ahead of us and hopefully found his inner peace. His favorite moment was when he dropped some bread on accident from his sandwich and a chipmunk came inches away from his shoes and sat and nibbled on it. Omar, the 20 month year old was grumpy, I think due to sitting in one of those backpacks that has the baby seat thingy. The only part he did like was lunch. Overall, this park had a great atmosphere. Might be a little concerned about parking, parking lot was kind of small. Definitely worth our 10 bucks and the 45 minute drive. The wife wants to return when she is pass the stages of morning sickness. read more
