I…read morehave had 4 surgeries (1 ACL, 1 clean up of the knee, 1 shoulder bone spurs and 1 knee replacement) preformed by Dr. Burke and my husband has had one which was a shoulder. But let me tell you if you need paper work to be filled out in order to go back to work after surgery get it to the office personnel ASAP because they don't get in any hurry. I was told they have 7 days to fill it out and to get it turned in. Not sure why it should take so long so for that process I give 0 stars. I had my staples taken out today by one of his PA's and she tried to keep my mind off of it by talking to me which help so I give her 5 stars. They all have great bed side manners. I don't understand why it takes so long to check out that part I give 1 star sometimes it takes longer to check out then it does to see the doctor but I like Dr Burke so I guess it is worth putting up with all of the shenanigans. I trust Dr. Burke and his medical staff and I have the up most respect for them and would highly recommend him for your Orthopedic surgery.

Five hours later I received a phone call from the front office telling me that my appointment time was cancelled because I did not list my insurance information. I informed the unpleasant lady that I completed what ZocDoc asked me to complete and didn't realize I was expected to input my insurance information before the visit. Furthermore, I asked her why she didn't simply call me and ask for my insurance information before she cancelled my appointment. She began speaking to me in a very aggressive and disrespectful tone. She acknowledged that there was a glitch in ZocDoc's software system that allowed it to schedule appointments without asking patients for their insurance. I asked her why she was yelling at me. I asked her whether did she considered her tone to be appropriate. Her response was to tell me that she didn't like my tone either. I asked her to remove me from the contact list and she hung up on me. I would love to give a review of Dr. Shepherd but unfortunately I cannot because his front office "lady" was so offensive that I refuse to give him my business. Perhaps he would benefit from knowing how rude and unprofessional his staff was to me.

Unfortunately, my experience was incredibly disappointing. I originally scheduled an OB appointment but needed to reschedule about two weeks in advance. I called and spoke with the receptionist, who said their system was down but would call me back once it was up again. She took my name and number and assured me I'd hear back. A couple of days went by and no one called, so I tried calling again--three times in one day, and again three times the next. No one answered. Since I couldn't get through, I went online and tried to cancel my appointment through their portal. I thought the cancellation went through, only to later receive a call saying I missed my appointment and would be charged a $50 fee. I explained everything--how I had called multiple times, was told I'd be called back, and had tried to cancel online--but the admin told me they "have to follow protocol" and that I should have kept calling until someone answered, even though she also acknowledged that their phones were down. That response honestly blew me away. I'm not someone who misses appointments for fun--I had every intention of rescheduling and made multiple efforts to do so. I'm new to their online system and genuinely thought I had cancelled properly. The way this was handled felt dismissive, lacked accountability, and was just plain unprofessional. It's unfortunate, but I won't be returning or recommending them based on this experience.

The waiting room was empty except got a gentleman and I got a jump scare when a young lady opened her window and greeted me (I was a bit disoriented with the layout of the room). Almost immediately after completing my paperwork I was called to the back where my vitals were taken. The doctor was quite knowledgeable and lovely, so was the Nurse Vicki, and they both aasuaged my reddit-birthed fears. Day of surgery: April 09, 2026 Location: St. Joseph Medical Center When I first met with Dr Paul James, I was told for my belly button hernia I was going to get clued up no stitches and a mesh would be placed to cover the hole. The day of surgery once again I was told by Dr Paul James and the nurses the sam thing no stitches and I'm getting glued up with the mesh. I get out of surgery I didn't get explained anything. I wasn't told how to take care of the wound. After a week I took off the bandage and I found that there was a piece of wire sticking out of my belly button. Weeks past and it was still there, I decided to follow up with Dr Paul James. When I went he told me that he decided to not use the mesh and decided to use stitches, but stitches that were placed inside me not on the outside of my belly button. He didn't want to give a reason why the game plan changed and why I wasn't told. I have called Dr Paul James' office 5 times and still haven't gotten explained why he changed the original plan I was told for surgery which was no stitches and I'm getting glued up with mesh covering the hole. Almost 2 months later and I still don't have an answer. The day of surgery I told the nurses that I am scared of needles. Most of the time after making that statement the nurses are more focus on me being calm and relax because they know this situation stresses me out. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case at this hospital. The anesthesiologist thought it was funny to pretend that he was going to put a needle into my neck to put me to sleep before surgery. I will say I truly didn't appreciate that, it made me feel very uncomfortable. While he kept doing it and pretending to put the needle in my neck, I told him to stop multiple times. Overall my experience was terrible.

He was straight forward, extremely thorough and I found his bedside manner to be comforting and transparent. The onboarding part is where I would say the experience was less ideal, mainly because the staff was not having the best day. I was under the impression that my information had been ported over properly through an online platform, but I was asked to take the time to fill out new patient forms anyway. Upon finishing did they realize that a majority of the information they needed was already in the system, so it felt somewhat defeating to have to do it online and on paper. The facility is a lot nicer than it looks from the outside. There is ample parking and the office lobby / waiting area has a pretty comfortable set of chairs. The way the acoustics is setup meant that I could clearly hear the ladies at the desk mention anything, which included patient info and scheduling. I'm not one to eavesdrop, but it almost too audible. Once my appointment had concluded, the ladies at the desk didn't even bother to help me check-out or even say bye. I didn't bother to schedule a follow up but still give Dr. Rios a thumbs up for making my lone experience a very decent one.

Dr. Rios was nice enough, but it appears that his office bills for extra things just to squeeze more money out of the insurance companies and his patients.
