Over the last 15 years I have seen Dr Warnock periodically and always felt he cared, listen and directed me in the best treatment. My last appointment will be my last. This practice wants large, fast turn-overs now. I have a shoulder with a "mechanical" injury in addition to the arthritis in the shoulder. I pulled these muscles and the result is extremely painful. X-rays were ordered. Fine. Good medical practice. When Dr. Warnock came in he would not listen to what had happened, assumed it was arthritis and ordered physical therapy for arthritic shoulders and that was it. He missed the entire problem. I will never go back. He can rush others through this factory now. I am 8 weeks out and still in tremendous pain. He has made me worried I may come across another physician who simply wants more patients through the mill. read more

I had a very disappointing experience with Dr. Warnock and his nurse, Byron. To his credit, he was the first doctor to ever diagnose my knee issue as a torn ACL. I also found him to be extremely friendly with a sense of humor. He was highly recommended by my primary doctor. Upon hearing my diagnosis, I asked about surgery. He said it depended on me and the activity level I wanted. I didn't even blink. At the time I fell and tore my ACL I was roller skating, playing tennis, and considering picking up some very casual basketball or maybe finding a softball team to join. The injury was devastating, and for 7 years I had felt like an invalid who'd been cheated by life. After agreeing to surgery, he said I needed an MRI. That's where things started downhill. I'm very claustrophobic, and tight spaces where I'm on my back is my big trigger. We tried several different things to get me a closed MRI, but nothing worked out. One of the options, an IV with Ativan, was shot down by my insurance. Byron was kind of hostile about having to spend a lot of time on the phone with my insurance company. I got the distinct impression that he thought it was all somehow my fault. I thought that very unfair because that is supposed to be his job. I never asked to be claustrophobic. I can't turn it off. No one gives you a "I don't want to be claustrophobic anymore" opt-out form. Finally, after about 3 months of grief trying to do the closed MRI, Warnock agreed to an open MRI. I got it done the next week. I went in after the MRI to schedule my surgery, and then Warnock says he's just going to send me to PT instead. I was like, what the hell. The only reason I went through all that hassle to get an MRI was because I was told I needed it to get surgery. Then he has the audacity to tell me that people of my advanced age (40) just don't need to play sports. After he left the room, Byron said that I should just accept the fact I won't play tennis again and just move on. He also said that the surgery could lead to arthritis in 3 years or cause me to have to have a replacement. These are both FALSE and inaccurate statements. People with knee trauma have higher risk of arthritis, period, regardless of whether they have surgery to repair damage. Not having surgery won't stop arthritis. (And I'm not a doctor, but it seems to me that ACL reconstruction would help a lot with arthritis management by allowing for greater physical activity, which studies show is invaluable for managing arthritis pain. Also critical is keeping weight down, which is also easier when you can move.) And not getting an ACL reconstruction puts you at higher risk for replacement. The instability caused by ACL damage puts other structures in the knee at higher risk for being damaged as well (cartilage injury, meniscus tears, bone bruising, etc.) Especially if you're not sedentary. And the reason I was denied surgery is because in the space of time between the 2 appointments I had my 40th birthday. I had friends and family suggest that there was probably just an issue with the insurance not wanting to pay for the surgery, etc. But that is incorrect. Exactly 2 weeks after that appointment with Warnock, I had an ACL reconstruction using a patellar autograft. I picked some more surgeons from a list provided by my insurance, doctors I really liked the look of, and I brought my MRI CD and reports to them for review. I ultimately chose the one who could do the surgery fastest. He also happens to be quite the expert in ACL reconstruction in particular. He has written content for medical school textbooks on the subject. None of the doctors I chose even suggested I might not want surgery. None even mentioned my age except when suggesting what type of graft we might want to choose. My surgeon has operated on at least one 80yr old. I was actually put on surgery schedules right then and there. The real kicker is my surgeon said after my operation that the MRI image and report were about 98% accurate. I tore my ACL so completely I had virtually no ACL anymore. I'm still very early in recovery, but, yes, I WILL be smacking around a tennis ball again someday. So, if you're over 39 and/or claustrophobic, I would just see someone else. The Houston area is practically oozing with surgical talent. You don't have to be stuck with doctors like this. read more

What more can I say about Warnock than amazing? I have the privilege of knowing this man professionally and personally. I was his rep for a few years before I became a patient. He's always treated me with kindness and respect. I recently tore one of the tendons in my elbow and went to see him. His bed side manner is second to none. He listens and cares for each and every patient. He's always bright and bubbly. Seriously guys, he's a great surgeon. So he operated on my elbow and am currently 2 weeks post op. His PA, Byron, has called me periodically to check on me and also has fantastic bedside manner. His check in lady even when the waiting room is packed exhibits kindness and professionalism. Was referred to this guy by Texas children's as my son dislocated his shoulder after they had popped it back in place they told me to go and follow up with him to make sure everything was right. My son has been up all night screaming saying he's having sharp pains down his arm and no strength to even lift his right arm even after xrays show it is back in the socket. So dr Warnock orders his own xrays and checks out his arm which my son is screaming in even more pain with him touching it and he concludes with I'm going to refer you back to Texas children's and not at the very least give him something for the pain. What a complete waste of time and watching my son suffer in the meantime is unbearable. This is "supposedly" your area of expertise and you don't and can't find out what's wrong with him. Meanwhile I get to wait around and drive farther to a place I've already been too because the buck is being passed here. Shame on you read more

I have torn my acl two times and I have gone to Dr.Warnock both times he's an amazing and kind surgeon he does not make you feel like just another patient, and to my surprise when we first came to him he spoke perfect Spanish with my parents to make sure they understood everything that was going to happen with me and my rehab here has been amazing and has helped me a lot and has pushed me ahead of schedule which is great!! I Had a 10:50 appointment. I signed in at 10:37. I wasn't acknowledged until 10:58. When I was acknowledged I mentioned that I had a 10:50 appointment and asked how long I could expect to wait to be seen. The response was "possibly 30 minutes". There appeared to be at least 10 people already in the waiting room to be seen. That's giving credit to the 5 or so people who might have been there having brought a patient who was actually being seen at the time. They appear to schedule patients at 10 minute increments. Even with just 6 ahead of me that's an hour + wait already past my scheduled appointment. This kind of scheduling is totally unacceptable and disrespectful of other people's time. Dr. Warnock is not only a great Dr and surgeon but both he and his staff always make you feel like a person and not just a patient. The take all the time you need to understand the issues and are very good and continued communication. I had an ACL injury that required replacement and they were there every step of the way. The post surgery support was amazing. I recently took my 7 year old in for knee pains that turned into a bigger issueand they have been amazing in getting us to a specialist and have even continued to answer questions about the overall process. It is always scary when thing happen with your children but I cannot imagine how they could have done a better job in making this process bearable. Dr. Warnock has been my child's doctor from 6th grade to currently her senior year and we would never take her anywhere else. She's a swimmer and he has done everything from surgery to fix a broken wrist, to helping with issues with shoulders, knees, and back.
