I was working at the Video store until 9pm and when I finished I decided that seeing as I'd just…read moreearned some money, it was only fair that I be allowed to spend it. So I treated myself to some takeaway for a late Sunday dinner. I'd often been to the Thai and Indian places for my well deserved late in the evening meal, so tonight I thought I'd go to Fujiyama's, the new(ish) Japanese Restaurant on Norton Street. I entered through the balcony eating area, which always seems to be full, went up to the counter and picked up a menu. I read through the dining options but in the back of my mind I always knew what I was going to eat. It had to be the Bento Box, that classic Japanese dish. An assortment of fine foods separated by barricades all inside a box. I looked around the classy joint as I awaited my order. Other people came in and picked up their pre-ordered meals. I wandered around and read newspapers that had been left on the various inside tables. Then finally, my food was ready. I picked up some chopsticks and a serviette and made my way home. I turned on the tele, I opened the box and I tucked in. Japanese food is always a little bit expensive, I find. But it is always good and I am seldom disappointed. This was no exception. Yummo. (Editors Note: Yummo?) (Seaton's Note: Do you have a problem with Yummo? The food was Yummo.) (Editors Note: You're an embarrassment.) (Seaton's Note: I just want love.)

I took some friends to this restaurant last night. As usual, the food is still fantastic however…read moreI'm not sure what has happened to the service since my previous visits. The only thing I noticed was that the wait staff seemed less attentive than they used to be. We sat down at our reserved balcony table, shortly after we noticed the table besides us had left. I think this was because of the meal although some of my friends suggested it was because of us - who knows. :P The remnants of their meals strewn across the table stayed there until we were about to leave. It was not like they were extremely busy either. To add to this we had to stand and wave our arms around in order to get the attention of the waitresses. They were lovely and polite etc, just didn't check on us or even see us attempting to get their attention more subtly. I left the food until last so I can end on a more positive note. AMAZING - AGAIN! We enjoyed the delights of soft-shell crab salad, sashimi/sushi plater and I never come to this place without ordering their baked salmon roll (DEVINE). The sushi/sashimi here is always fresh and delicious, soft shelled crab is great and you all know what I think of their Baked Salmon Roll! mmm We all left with full bellies but still heading for Bar Italia for a yummy gelato for dessert. Grand Total, $17 each, no tip tonight. I'm still a fan but think they can work on checking the tables more often.

Awhile back I was taken to Manmaruya in Campsie and really enjoyed my bowl of ramen but was quite…read moreshocked at the sub standard level of service we received there. This time we gave Manmaruya in Ashfield a try for lunch. Just across the road and a short walk up Liverpool St from Ashfield mall. FOOD I shared a large Teriyaki Chicken Ramen ($14.80) and a Soft Shell Crab roll ($9.80) whilst the others ordered a Chicken Katsu Curry ($12.80), Pork Karaage Ramen ($12.80) and a large Cha-syu Ramen ($14.80). http://www.yelp.com.au/biz_photos/1uWOnSumYcCFt4G_TRrptg?select=ZkxW7Oe3-KJbltrXYskPZw http://www.yelp.com.au/biz_photos/1uWOnSumYcCFt4G_TRrptg?select=WmpErIg4qfZEH3X78JIyyw http://www.yelp.com.au/biz_photos/1uWOnSumYcCFt4G_TRrptg?select=RVFg9jB6Ht0NJGKa9VnqRA http://www.yelp.com.au/biz_photos/1uWOnSumYcCFt4G_TRrptg?select=Qtjjn-psYhib8uvgaZl-AA http://www.yelp.com.au/biz_photos/1uWOnSumYcCFt4G_TRrptg?select=oRf113-NLeOlwA7FSkwoaQ Manmaruya's speciality is their ramen. For me the most important thing about ramen is the soup. Manmaruya has both pork and chicken soups. I personally always go for the more traditional pork based soup. I really enjoyed the one here as it is still tasty and flavoursome but at the same time not too salty unlike other ramen restaurants. The Soft Shell Crab roll was probably not the best tasting roll I've eaten but satisfied my craving for sushi that day. However it was well presented and I am definitely one to appreciate pretty looking food. Overall I thought the food is reasonably priced and the serving size was decent. SERVICE Unlike the Campsie branch this one was far less busy and so we did not have to wait to be served. The food came out within 10mins of ordering as well. VERDICT I think this is one of the better ramen places in Sydney and would recommend ramen lovers out there to give this place a try.
