"Berlin is a city condemned forever to becoming and never being." Interpret this well-known quote however you'd like, but when it comes to food, I think this statement captures the diversity of Berlin's up-and-coming food scene and how a quintessential restaurant in Berlin always continues to be inspired by trends across the world. Okay Café, which has quickly become one of my favorite restaurants for breakfast, captures this perfectly: I was greeted in Swedish ("hej!"), interacted with the servers in German, and heard a few snippets of an English conversation every now and then. If that doesn't perfectly represent Berlin's multiculturalism, I'm not sure what does. Okay Café markets itself as a Neukölln cafe with a Stockholm touch and it certainly finds the perfect middle ground between these two identities: it's effortlessly cool (with Scandinavian minimalism galore) and unpretentiously trendy. Any hipster who stops by would have nary a complaint about the food nor the decor (plants on plants!). And if that won't win you over, know that this is one of the few restaurants in Berlin where the server will bring your table complimentary tap water (with a tasteful slice of lemon) without you having to ask beforehand. Oh, and the fantastic indie music selection (off the top of my head: a HAIM cover of a Tame Impala song, LCD Soundsystem, and Babyshambles) was also a nice touch. The food is delicious and healthy, with a good number of vegan and vegetarian options for those with dietary restrictions. Color me surprised when I found out that I could enjoy an omelette with a more-than-generous amount of avocado and a tasty side salad with pomegranate and pine nuts for €6.80! This dish screams San Francisco, but it'd definitely cost at least twice as much over there. On top of that, it's also one of the more heartier (and cheaper) breakfasts I've enjoyed in Berlin. And since we're talking about a Swedish-inspired cafe, how could we forget about the cinnamon buns? On top of offering the classic cinnamon buns everyday, there are also daily specials ranging from vanilla to Nutella. Enjoy a Swedish fika with a cinnamon bun and an Americano with your laptop -- there's free wifi, but they ask that you don't bring your laptops in on Sundays. And if you get hungry, place your food order before 4 p.m., which is when the kitchen closes. And true to its self-proclaimed Stockholm touch, they also take card. Tack and bis bald! read more

Newly discovered favorite! This Scandinavian inspired cafe serves brunch, soup and baked goods! For breakfast you can choose between oatmeal or chia pudding bowls, toasts and sandwiches or omlets. We had the avocado toast and the chocolate oatmeal. The avocado toast was fantastic and probably the best one I've ever had! The sourdough was crisp and it was topped with a generous helping of avocado and a boiled egg on a layer of cream cheese. Completed by a side salad and roasted seeds. My friend had the chocolate oatmeal served with foamed milk. It was good but she couldn't finish since it was super chocolate-y. The waiter even noted that barely no one can finish it. Service was pretty slow, interior is hipster but very pretty and minimalistic. So can only recommend this place and if the service would be faster everything would be perfect! read more

I've had this rule for vacation: try new places every day. But Okay Café is so damn good that I came back two days in a row. The salad was an absolute dream!!!! Omg. The liquid smoke mustard dressing. The perfect amount of toppings. The most amazing fresh dill. Sigh sigh sigh. And also the banana chocolate peanut butter bread. Wooow! I'm gonna miss this place when I go back to San Francisco. :( My partner ordered the omelette but I was too smitten with the salad to try it. She said every bite was amazing. This is a little Swedish peach of a Cafe. Excellent coffee plus super fresh, delicious contemporary foods for breakfast and lunch like Buckwheat Cream breakfast jars, Quinoa salads, Omelettes or plätters of Swedish pancakes (only weekends) are all pumped out here. The space is also clean and contemporary, naturally it being helmed by a dope-ass Swedish girl :) Bonus: there's free wifi! read more

Still incredible and I'm so glad it's still not overcrowded like some places that are nearby (and overrated). This is literally my favorite breakfast place in the world, and I live in San Francisco where there are plenty of good places to eat. Savory or sweet-vegan or gluten free treats are all incredible. A friend and I wanted to meet up for brunch the other day and the cafe we wanted to go originally was full so we yelped where else nearby is a good option & we found okay cafe. At first the name didn't seem very inviting (when do you expect something good if it's labeled as OK...?) but I trusted my fellow yelpers. The Cafe offers a couple different toasts, omelettes, soups & salads and I ordered the double trouble omelet, which had goat cheese and avocado in it with a side salad. My friend had the spinach toast. It was super delicious and we were very happy with our choices. The staff was friendly and the cafe itself was well lit and inviting. Sunday brunch outside in the shade! If you sit outside, best to order inside first. We took the pancakes with spinach/avocado/artichoke cream, the asparagus omelette, OJ and grapefruit juice. Juice is freshly squeezed and delicious! The pancakes are small and thin, with a lot of topping. You can choose 6 or 9. We took 9; but 6 would have been plenty as a meal for one person. Everything here is vegetarian, and they're happy to accommodate any dietary needs or requests, including vegan, nut free, etc. read more

This place was definitely more than okay. I came here by myself while my friends were still sleeping and felt at home. I had the fresh ginger tea which was a large portion and an avo and goat cheese omelet. My only complaint was that the bread they gave me on the side was two small pieces - it was so good I wanted to eat more! So instead I bought a dessert on the way out and I'm glad I did because it was fantastic. I don't think you can go wrong here and it seems like a cafe with enough breakfast staples on it that even the pickiest of eaters can find something here to enjoy. read more

Favorite place in Berlin! Absolutely delicious food. They offer wonderful gluten free bread for their sandwiches and toasts. It was the best gf bread I had in Berlin. Honestly considering moving to Berlin just so I can have this amazing cafe as my local coffee shop. I can't rave enough about this place. My partner and I ordered two filter coffees and the coffee quality was superior to the other coffee shops we visited while in the city - strong, smooth, just the Saturday morning 'pick me up' everyone needs. We had the avocado on toast and the easter omelette with avocado as well as the mini pancake platter with apple compote. The bread (which I believe was sourdough) was fantastic, the avocado was super smooth, creamy, tasty and ripe and the side salad had an amazing dressing that I couldn't quite figure out what it was but I'm all for it. Loved the little details, like the pine kernels and bits of pomegranate with the salad. The omelette was also incredible. The pancakes were like breakfast/brunch dessert and were so fresh and delicious. If I had to find a flaw it would be that I would have preferred a poached egg to a soft boiled on my toast, but I guess that's that's cherry picking. Easily on my top three best brunches. read more

Ok people, you have to be conscious that these kind of places are not Berlin at all. Everything is designed and meant for touristic (mainly american) clients who believe this is a typical berliner experience. Staff (except the owner) even does not speak german. That said, coffee is good and the food is average. But highly expensive for the town and for normal persons living there. Off course he location is unbeatable - this explains that It's a pity to think that these sorts of places are slowly but surely changing the town... read more
