I'm going to preface by saying on my recent first trip to Berlin, I hated it. I must have missed something or Berlin is just not for me. My boyfriend didn't like it either. So, that being said, we woke up on our second day in Berlin not too happy. We decided to find a nearby cafe for our morning (it was about 2:30pm by then, so, afternoon) coffee and something to eat. We walked over here and I was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere. Super clean, modern and with a great selection of reading material in the back. We ended up ordering two almond milk cappuccino's, some sort of walnut cake, yogurt with bananas and granola, and plum cake. #orderallthethings #typicalamericans. Both cakes were deee-vine... not too sweet, large, but not too large, slices, and not dried out. It was pretty busy for a Saturday, I thought. I loved the back atmosphere filled with magazines that are sleekly designed and books on travel and culture. We ended up staying for about two hours just reading! A waitress even came by to wipe down our table to ensure the books don't get any thing on them. I'd call this a modern, hipster vibe with friendly staff and great, natural light. This is close to Checkpoint Charlie if you're in the tourist area. read more

Yes sir. I'm a creature of habit, and one that I am not apt to break is that my mornings start with a good cup of coffee. While traveling through Europe, I wasn't willing to give this up, and thankfully Westberlin was close to my hotel, meaning I didn't have to travel TOO far to dodge the countless Starbucks and European equivalents. Westberlin serves thoughtfully prepared third wave coffee in a gallery-esque environment. I was able to get a truly excellent pour over and a pastry, sit at a clean and well-lit table while using their complimentary wifi. When the rest of my days are go-go-go, I cherish these quiet morning moments, and Westberlin provided it. And to find this in one of the most touristy centers of the city? Excellent. read more

Close to Checkpoint Charlie, probably one of the most touristic parts of Berlin, you can have a great cup of coffee at West-Berlin. If you have a weakness for interior design, this is a must go during your stay in this inspiring city. I have been there during fall and summer, but I have to admit the seasons don't really matter. During summer you can enjoy the coffee on a sunny patio, but if the weather does not allow you, there is always a trendy interior to take a break. Westberlin was established about one year ago, but has already made its statement in Berlin. Except for a nice cup of slow coffee, they also have a media shop filled with books for design lovers. If you are in the mood for a quick read, you can always take one of the magazines from the stacks near the windows. West Berlin is loved by true coffee fans, mostly because their variety of coffee beans changes every other month. They purchase beans from famous roasters such as Five Elephant from Berlin, Drop Coffee from Stockholm and many others. If you have the time to stay a little longer, try their roast on the aeropress; my favorite way to brew coffee. Of course they also serve several other beverages. From fresh tea to apple juice. Their carrot cake is also very tasty and they offer a wide selection of fresh sandwiches and salads. The environment is cosy, but also inspiring to motivate you to work. The acoustics, light and general mood are balanced and soothing; perfect for a productive coffee break! A must on your Berlin spots list. read more

This is a nice little coffee shop in the CheckPoint Charlie area of Berlin. I think literally down the block. No other review mentions breakfast but they have delightful selection of sandwiches and quiches! We sat for a nice quiet meal with good music and good atmosphere. I only gave 4 stars instead of 5 because I feel like everything was great but the tea could have been more quantity. They give you a 1/4 filled carafe which is essentially like 8 ounces. I like my quantity ! But hey if that's their worst fault, this place ain't half bad ! No seriously it was nice. Go there. read more

There's plenty of seating with numerous tables inside and chairs on the rear patio and the sidewalk out front. Overall, it produces a very bright aesthetic with lots of light colored wood and vibrant colors with soft techno music playing in the background. The cinnamon roll was filling when coupled with a flat white and I didn't find it to be overly sweet. Came here for a coffee break on a cold day in Berlin. We got lucky because every table was full, but someone was leaving right as we entered. If he hadn't been leaving, we would have had to find somewhere else because the place was full. This is definitely a place where you can hang out for a long time on your computer/tablet which means that it can be tricky to get a table, but if you time it right I definitely recommend staying here. They run out of sandwiches so I got a salad. They have 3 types and they are made daily. I ordered the salad with blue cheese, pear slices, and walnuts. The dressing is horseradish. It can be pretty strong that you feel a brief burn in your nose. You'll get 2 small bread slices. I think it's sourdough bread. They take cards if the bill is over €5. Pretty crowded. However they have decent coffee and it's a nice place to hang out with your friends especially if you're a tourist because it's in the touristy spot. It's definitely more on the expensive side. This coffee shop is adorable and a great place to work! At Westberlin, unlike many other places in Germany, it is totally acceptable to hang out and work on a laptop. Food and coffee are great! They offer a range of food options from pastries to sandwiches or salads for a small meal. The baristas are great, so expect cute latte art! They even offer a range of non-dairy milk options. (My barista said oat milk is her fave!) This is also one of the only places I've found in Berlin that offers customers free water which is a huge perk. The interior is super cool, and the coffee shop advertises an extensive magazine/ book collection that customers can browse. Both times I have been to Westberlin so far (in the mid afternoon) there was plenty of room to sit. There are also a fair amount of power outlets. I had to wait 30 minutes for one at the maximum. WiFi is fast and reliable. Westberlin seems to attract mostly students and young professionals in technology. There's lots of conversation about programming and design, much of which takes place English. It reminds me a little bit of a San Francisco spot for this reason. read more

This was one of the first cafes I came to when I got to Berlin and one that I frequented the most during my 4 month stay. The brightly lit sit down cafe was very reminiscent of American coffee shops and it was almost as if I had hopped onto the plane to America and not the U-Bahn because of the amount of English speakers I heard there. Onto the food and drinks. Their mixed orange drink was my favorite. I'm not really sure what else they added in other than orange juice and ginger, but I always felt so much healthier and refreshed after this. Their flat whites are on point too. I'm not sure if I'm getting this right or not, but they get their beans and cheesecakes from Five Elephants. First: the coffee here is AMAZING!! That being said, Westberlin has a very comfortable atmosphere, the bright colors, the open space the music in the background (who was with moments just a little bit to loud). The staff is very friendly, they speak fluent English too and know their product and what's inside them. We stayed there for almost 2,5 hour without noticing it was that long (obviously I was late for another appointment), but it was totally worth it. This might be one of my favorite cafes in Berlin. Situated quietly a few hundred meters from Checkpoint Charlie, westberlin is the perfect place to stop by on any given day. The bright and open space promotes a great environment to work in. In the back room, they have a huge table with tons of plugs which is PERFECT for me because the battery life on my MacBook sucks. The noise level isnt super loud but the cafe has minimal house playing in the background which I personally like. On top of having great coffee, they have a super friendly staff and great desserts. My only gripe is that they're internet can be spotty AT TIMES, but usually really good. There's also a really cute barista that works here too :) The cheesecake here is to DIE for. The salmon quiche here is amazing as well. It's not extremely cheesy (which makes it even better in my book)! And a little side note, all the baristas here are gorgeous in their own right. Many of them dawn beautiful tattoos. Just a little extra added eyecandy to the already amazing experience. read more

A delightful little café that is a godsend in the midst of tourist-trappy Checkpoint Charlie/Mauer land. They have tons of newspapers and magazines, and a small assortment of pastries. If you're like me and prefer savory to sweet in the morning, they have LOTS of sandwiches: fig and Brie, ham and cheese, salami and olive spread, caprese, to name a few. They all have fresh lettuce/cucumber/pepper sticking out of them, and they're all made on dark German rye or pumpernickel bread. The sandwich I had was delicious. Great fuel for a day of sightseeing! My friend's coffee and cinnamon bun was good. As for my tea, a certain German stereotype was fulfilled when the boy behind the counter informed me that my rooibos tea needed to steep for "7 Minuten, bitte." Jawohl. Hip designer coffe place with great coffee and tasty pastries. We ordered the freshly baked rhubarb coffee cake and it really hit the spot. The place feels like it could be in any major city -- a very international vibe. There's also a lot of art and designer magazines available to read while you're there or buy to take home or on the plane with you as you jet set to wherever you're going. They were playing great deep house music in the background as we sat and warmed ourselves up with a cup of coffee. This is a great little escape from the Auber-tourist vibe of Fredrichestrabe in Berlin, made us feel like we were in Brooklyn or LA, our home away from home. This coffee shop was recommended by a colleague, so while in Berlin my husband and I gave it a try. We stopped in for a morning coffee and sweet treat for breakfast. The staff behind the counter were ok, but not very friendly. The women we paid gave us the wrong change but corrected the mistake as soon as we pointed it out. (Good thing my husband was paying attention!) The drinks and sweets were great. The blueberry pie was SO good! The crust was very buttery and makes my mouth water as I think about it now! The food's all right and it's a nice café, but the people working there did't seem to be very happy.

Every time I've come here the staff have been consistently rude, and I've gotten similar reports from friends who live nearby. Once my friend was reprimanded for saying hi to someone who had already sat down with their food before he himself ordered, and I was once singled out for having a laptop at a table by the window (everyone around me had a laptop, a staff member shoved a sign in my face as though I couldn't read and told me to go to the back). The coffee isn't great, the chai lattes are far too spicy, the baked goods are always dry, and they serve their quiches cold after a 10 minute wait. Everything is overpriced. Hallesches Haus, Coffee Point, Einstein Kaffee, and Starbucks are all within a 2-15 minute walk of here. Don't waste your money or your dignity. read more

Light and stylish cafe with free wifi, filled with inspiring design magazines and they are taking tea preparation very seriously so it's worth to pay more, but I recommend to actually observe how they prepare it.
