Crispy Chicken Bites ($11): 2/5. A little off-putting...had many strangely textured, oddly shaped pieces of battered, deep fried chicken that tasted dry and overcooked. Sadly wasn't juicy at all, and batter/coating was way too thick. The cabbage salad and spiced mayo sauce it came with tasted better than the chicken, so I wouldn't get this again. Fries ($6): 4/5. Long, skinny, crispy shoestring that were dangerously easy to eat - these went fast. Berries Shake ($7): 5/5. Super yummy. I don't normally go for fruity milkshakes, but this was very enjoyable, tasted like real berries blended into creamy vanilla ice cream. Made me want to try their other shakes. Small, fast-casual shop with chill vibes and aloof staff. Ojai is situated in Old Towne Orange, so you can park in the brick parking structure for free and explore the area.
We were in the mood for a snack while wandering around the downtown area and came across the sign for a $7.95 Wagyu smash burger so we'd thought we give it a try. The girl at the counter was friendly and helpful and we ordered up our smash burger and took a seat inside (there's a lot of seating outside on a large shared patio) We could hear the meat hit the grill and it was served up a few moments later fresh and piping hot. The burger was seasoned well and had some grilled onions and a nice sauce. It was a perfect little snack for us to split, but if you want something larger they have a numerous selection of specialty burgers, sandwiches and bowls.
I was curious about Ojai Burger after eating at the Taco Stand next door so I finally got around to coming here for the first time earlier this week. Ordered the Ojai Smash Burger with the Garlic Parmesan Shake Shake fries. The burger was pretty tasty but the fries were a bit too dry and bland in my opinion. But seeing that I came here primarily to try their smash burger, I would say that I came out satisfied overall. The girl who rung me up was very friendly & welcoming which made the experience a positive one. I would definitely come back to try the other items on the menu seeing that the smash burger was up to par.
I stand by my original review--if Yelp allowed negative ratings, I would confidently give this establishment -100 stars. Since posting my genuine feedback, I have been repeatedly contacted and harassed by an individual whom I believe to be the owner. The messages I have received include derogatory language, hostile name-calling, and behavior that is entirely inappropriate toward any customer. The conduct displayed in these messages is alarming and raises serious concerns about the professionalism and emotional stability of the person managing this business. I have no idea who he is referring to in his explicit messages, as none of it relates to my initial review. Ask yourself: would you feel comfortable dining at a place where the owner engages with customers this way? (See attached screenshot.) Please consider this before giving your money to an establishment that not only serves mediocre food but is represented by someone who continues to harass former customers months later instead of addressing feedback constructively and professionally.
JAPANESE BURGERS Awesome location near the circle of orange. Not cheap but probably cheaper than a restaurant. Japanese style burgers with sweet sauces. Everything is sold separate. Got the beef bowl, the burger with the egg in it, don't remember the name, and the parm truffle fries. After finishing my food, I was glad I tried it but I probably won't order it again based on how dry the protein was. We had a Delicious burgers. Suggested was the name of the place "The OJai Burger"! Was a little salty, but the egg balanced it out. I thought the fries were good. The burger was absolutely delicious. Service was fast and the place is in old town Orange, walking distance from the Antique Circle. The location has a really cool vibe to it.
I am so loving this place. It is not just burgers. That's what keeps me coming back. Every time I visit there are more things to try. I think anyone could find something to enjoy here. I have often gone for the rice bowls including loco moco. Today I had the Menchi Katsu burger. They accidentally added a fried egg. Asked me if that was ok. No problem!! Just made it a bigger sloppier burger. My wife went with the demure smash burger. It is the most basic straightforward burger then have. So many other things I want to try including the katsu dog. Oh well, next time. They also have a solid draft beer program with stuff you don't see other places in the area.
This place is the SPOT! I love fusion restaurants so I was delighted when I took a look at their menu. I haven't been great with writing reviews so just FYI this is my review from my visits in May and July of this year. First: the service was awesome. In May, a server named Fern was very patient with me and gave me some great recommendations to help me decide what I should get. Unfortunately, there was a little misunderstanding, but it was probably an honest mistake. I ordered the wagyu bowl and got the katsu bowl. They sound similar, so I understand the mix up. I should have asked her to repeat the order to me. Next time! In July, I REALLY wanted to try their carrot cake, but I wasn't able to order it through the app, so I ordered the Giant Chocolate Cake Slice and asked them to give me carrot cake if possible. I was overjoyed to discover upon delivery that they not only were they able to accommodate my request, but they gave me an extra treat (a blondie) to make up for the price difference! How sweet! The carrot cake also did not disappoint. It was SO GOOD. What we've tried: Chicken Katsu Salad - very good, a little on the salty side. I'd like to try to karaage salad next and compare them. Wagyu Fries - SO GOOD. Highly recommend. Carrot cake - BOMB. Chicken Katsu Bowl - very good, a little on the salty side. We ordered the wagyu beef bowl and got this, so I'd still like to try the wagyu bowl. Topa Topa Chicken Sandwich - very good and filling Ube Shake - good, a bit on the sugary side. It's not designed to travel well(the pocky fell all the way in the drink), I was expecting them to put the pocky on the side or something, but I understand it's my fault ordering delivery Buttery Lemon squares - AMAZING. I'm a lemon square snob and these were almost as good as my grandmas. Toffee Crunch Blondie - good if you like big chocolate chips. It's much better warm. Overall, I would absolutely go back, and I very much look forward to it.
This one's all about simplicity done right. A soft, buttery brioche bun hugs a juicy wagyu patty, melty cheddar cheese, and a generous pile of caramelized onions that bring that perfect sweet-and-savory punch. There's a little bit of sauce smeared under the patty that gives it just enough tang without overpowering anything. The burger's got that smashed, crispy edge going on too, and it works magic with the creamy cheese. The pickle on the side is thick-cut and crisp--super refreshing between bites. No lettuce, tomato, or extras, just that deep, beefy flavor front and center. perfect!

A little bit pricey , but that's pretty much everywhere $22 for a realy good Wagu burger and frys It's pretty much standard for any high end amber. Ojai burger was a neat spot to try out some fusion food, The restaurant has pretty limited seating and I thought we could sit on the patio but wahoos has a sign that says it's only for wahoos. You may end up sharing a table with some others pending your party size. It's a nice little spot otherwise. The service was great they are great with getting orders in and out and with suggestions. I had a to go order along with my dine in and the server held off on making the Togo order until we were closer to being done with our meal so I really appreciated that. The food was good but not mind blowing, mind you I got the katsu sandwich and I think it's their wagyu beef that is the star. The sandwich was good with some good flavors. The fries were new for me since I had never had a miso spice so I enjoyed those. Overall Ojai did its job with proving good food with great service. I'll definitely try a burger next time and see if that changes hits higher notes for me but for the most part I did enjoy my meal.

The staff is the reason this review was bumped up a star. The gentleman at the register was so patient with us as it was our first time. We ordered ALOT of food. He made excellent recommendations and was so cheerful and friendly. The shake shake fries are very well seasoned and probably my favorite part of the meal besides the tangerine beer. The wagyu burger patty is very flavorful. So was the juicy dark meat chicken for the chicken sandwich. Other than that, the loco moco is depressing and definitely not a real loco moco. The portions are really small for the price you pay. I would not go back solely for that reason. It's just okay but not worth the price. It looks way better than it tastes. The staff is the most redeeming quality of this experience. read more

As a person who loves burgers and Japanese culture, this was a must-go-to for my taste buds! Had this place on my list for quite some time and thought it was finally time to visit! The time we went was actually a perfect time since there was only 1 party so we took our time figuring out what we wanted to eat! FOOD So for the food that we ordered were the Spicy Miso Burger, Topa Topa Burger and the Wagyu Fries. The overall presentation, use of ingredients was just perfect...Just thinking about the first bite is making my mouth water... As we were eating, both my girlfriend and I were silent for a few minutes as we were taking in all the explosive flavors sending us to another dimension! I was wishing that each bite wouldn't end! The use of Wagyu meat, the spicy miso was just a perfect combination. I'm really hoping the next time we visit, I won't be ordering the same thing since I tend to do that but I plan to try the Teriyaki Wagyu Burger which was my other option! OVERALL We're coming back. Enough said. The food was simply exquisite and worth every penny! The employees were very accommodating as we were asking questions about popularity, what certain sauces were so commends to the employees!(Sorry I didn't get your name but if it helps, it was around 12pm on March 9th 2024) There's an abundance of inside seating with a vast amount of table space for all the food you'll be ordering, or however messy you eat lol I would recommend trying to come here early, maybe before 12 or even earlier (for the weekends) as it does tend to get extremely packed and difficult to find parking! Ojai Chicken Sandwich was delicious, crispy and flavorful. I also got the spicy miso sauce on the side which was good, a bit on the saltier end. Not much parking available around the area especially on a weekend. Staff was friendly and food was relatively quick but on a weekend, sitting can be limited. Love the how this is around an area with plentiful of other shops ie antique store. Great place to grab a bit and then walk around to explore and digest. read more

Thank you to Elijah and the crew at Ojai Burger!! They welcomed us after our Angels game loss and reassured us that they will get back to their winning ways tomorrow. We agreed!! Today was our first time there and a start of many!! The ambiance is friendly and welcoming. The food was scrumptious and excellent!! I'm so glad that we didn't just get hot dogs, fries, and drinks at the stadium. It probably, actually totally, would have cost more and be half as good. We all agreed that the meal was great and that we're all going back!! I will try something else next time. My wife and kids will do the same. Wagyu beef is know for a reason. All the food was solid. Well seasoned and the wagyu patty was not overcooked like most burger places. It is a little bit on the pricey side but I get it. I did felt like the wagyu fries, the meat was a little skimped on. read more

Overall: 4.4/5 Recommend: Yeah it's decent. Return: Yes, but only if I happen to be in the area. Taste: 4/5 It was pretty good for being thoroughly cooked, but I am from the medium-rare burger camp, hence the non-perfect score. They said they only make them well-done. It's fine, to each his/her own. Quality: 4/5 Solid and good clean tasting meat, nicely baked buns, fresh fries and craft beer. 1. The wagyu burger patty tasted delicious, and it has a good texture! The fries also complimented the burger! 2. The spot had fun casual vibes with hour hours for beer! 3. Tonight came here around 5pm, it was a less than satisfying experience. Maybe I just came on an off night? Note to self: - Don't order the iced tea (there's barely any taste of tea) - Ask for less salt on burger - Pass on the grilled onions (too burnt / blackened - not good for my renal health) - Ask for no salt on the fries Got a cheese burger well done, with cabbage, extra pickles, extra grilled onions + $3.50 for fries and a drink. - The cashier said they don't really make cheeseburgers, I was charged an additional $1.50 - Last time it was included in the price of the burger Today I brought my own sliced fresh onions and tomatoes which made it a whole lot better. They forgot to bring me my fries. When I got my fries, they were not really hot (fresh), but just warm (maybe sitting there)? - Very small portion compared to when I came here in the day (last week) The extra pickles (2 pcs) were kinda soft (not as crunchy as my first time here). The burger had less cabbage too. Maybe I will bring my own lettuce or cabbage too. Their meat is really juicy and good. Not the best first experience we've had at a restaurant. First, the order we received and that was taken is incorrect. We ordered the Miso Karaage chicken rice bowl but instead the fries were entered and we received this. Second, the fries when we finally decided to just try it was on the harder side. Yes, we did take it to go but our drive was about 6-7 mins which shouldn't really compromise the fries's texture to get too hard. Finally the karaage chicken looked similar to chicken bits than actual chicken kaarage that you'd expect. I will say that the Menchi Katsu burger (not pictured) was pretty decent. Overall disappointed but unfortunately with it being late and us being tired, we would have to make do with what we have. read more
Ojai was OK! Had lunch here with my boss. Order at the counter, find a spot, they bring your food to you. I personally don't like high top seating, but that's what the scene was here. Only two spots inside with normal tables, they were taken. The patio was also full, and it was super sunny, so I wouldn't have wanted to sit out there anyway. We each ordered a different meal and split with each other, we also ordered Wagyu Fries to share. Boss had the Topa Topa Burger - Garlic dijon sauce, fresh avocado, Japanese mayo, shredded cabbage, crispy onions, served on a brioche bun. To me it didn't have a ton of flavor, and there was no texture at all. The "crispy" onions were soft. He really liked it, it was ok to me. I had the Spicy Ojai Chicken Sandwich - Crispy karaage chicken, spicy miso sauce, house spice blend, Japanese mayo, shredded cabbage, served on a brioche bun. I preferred this to his burger, but there was nothing spicy to it. The chicken also wasn't crispy, just another soft sandwich. Wagyu Fries - Fries topped with garlic shoyu BBQ wagyu beef, Japanese mayo and furikake. This was super big, it could be a meal. It was alright, somewhat greasy, and almost had a mustard flavor to it? Lunch was about $50, he had a beer, I had an iced tea...not sure if they do refills or not, you can't get them yourself. I INHALED my food. I ordered a Karaage bowl today and if this isn't the best karaage I've ever tried in the OC, I don't know what is. The karaage came out perfectly crispy, yet the meat itself was still tender enough. The combination of the karaage with a small portion of pickled ginger and shredded cabbage was delightful! It was to go but it travelled well and was also the perfect amount. All of it was on point and I can't wait to try out the rest of the menu. I highly recommend this spot in OC if you're looking for tasty Japanese food with a twist (this place serves Japanese style burgers as well). read more

This place has to be one of my favorite burger spots, especially it seems like a hidden gem of some sort. So I live in LA, and was craving a burger after going to Disneyland and scrolled through Yelp. Stumbled upon this restaurant and from the menu and reviews, things seemed to sound good and wanted to try it for my own. The inside the restaurant is pretty small inside and I think there's an outdoor patio that you can dine at as well. However, the customer service was A++++ in my personal opinion and I should've gotten the guys name but he was amazing and seemed so enthusiastic and friendly. That's another reason why I would come back to this restaurant, I love supporting businesses with great staff. Let's talk about the food now, I got a spicy miso burger and fries. The bun was nice and crispy along the edges and the meat was seasoned perfectly and I loved the egg that was added on top. I wish this place was closer to my house, but I'll definitely be coming back soon to this restaurant 10/10 stars if I could read more

Let me start by saying I love burgers, and particularly I love smash burgers. But I'm sick of them being over complicated pretentious trash. Tired Of walking in to a place and paying 20 dollars for a smash burger that lasts like grease and yellow Heinz mustard. It is not hyperbole when I say that Ojai has the best smash burger I've ever had. Perfect form factor with non of this super flat patty sticking a mile out from under the bun crap, not dripping in overpowering sauces. It's perfect when paired with the Dijon aoili and Mayo along with the grilled onions and cheese. Flawless. I recommend the shakes too, absolutely excellent. I will be coming back and I will never go anywhere else for a smash burger again. On top of that the service was fast and polite, with a huge outdoor shaded patio. Idk why I waited so long to try this. Ojai Burgers cured my burger depression. read more

Ojai burger, has exceptional quality wagyu burgers and the staff goes above and beyond for customer service, especially Nina, who somehow manages to always remember my order, as a regular frequenting it is great study spot, bring your own hotspot, although I would like to keep this hidden gem to myself. I highly recommend, the burger itself with rice and avocado, not specifically on the menu, I like to think of it as the secret menu for locals. The ambience of the space with the industrial interior design is a welcoming environment. The staff have accommodated my gluten allergy with this order. I typically cook burgers at home but it does not compare to this quality, hats off to the chief. The burger doesn't even need condiments, because the flavor itself is rich. Always come when I am famished and I always leave with my palate satisfied. Ownership changed but quality is still the same. read more

Finding a perfect burger can be challenging, but there is no need to look further. Located this place near my new office and so glad we decided to try as the photos look too good to pass. It indeed, too good! My favorite is the Topa Topa chicken. It's one of the best pieces of chicken in a sandwich I've ever eaten. Hot and juicy with the Krispy crunch! Must try! Can't eat without trying their fries. It's top-notch! Can't wait to try other burgers and fries! read more
I don't know why it took us so long to try this place...I am glad we did come and we love it! We ordered a smashed burger, a double smashed with egg, a Katsu chicken salad some sides to share and the burgers were flavorful and the buns were soft. So its been a long time that I wanted to try their Burger. Their signature ones has fried egg inside but I got mine without egg. We got the Topa Topa and Mushroom burger. It was different. The Sauce was tasted unique, and the texture of meat too. The category you can compare this burger to is Habit or In-n-out. I can say it was better that In-n-out but not as good as Habit. As far as pricing 2 burgers and a fries and 2 drinks costed $55. which is pretty pricy for fast food type of places like them. The part that really bothered me in the beginning was the smell of kitchen. Thats why we got the food to go. I didn't want to eat there. Hard to rate them because I don't think I want to go back there. read more
I was so surprised but this place had some damn good burgers. It seems to have some Asian fusion flavors. The shop is tucked away in old town orange. You will need to park in the parking garage just down the street. Staff is friendly and answered questions I had about their unique flavors. I tried the chief peak burger and spicy miso wagyu fries. The chief peak is a mushroom and onion burger with a Demi glacé sauce. The sauce really made the burger. It was rich and flavorful and paired so well. The fries were a hearty amount and they did not skimp on the meat. It hit my rare craving for a burger. If I'm craving burgers again I'll definitely be back. read more

This place is AWESOME, super friendly staff (Patrick helped me out), very clean on the inside, kitchen is open and is also very clean and organized. The menu isn't too overwhelming, and they definitely have something for everyone including potato croquette sandwiches and beyond patties in case someone in your party doesn't want meat I had the wagyu beef bowl and a soda, the beef bowl was PACKED with flavor, every bite consistently as good as the last. Not a big veggie guy, but the pickled ginger and edamame was a very nice touch and complimented the beef flavor. There's inside and outdoor seating with a nice view of Paul's across the street, great for people watching the busy Orange Circle, and tables inside and out were very clean and inviting. Great selection of beers that I was told constantly rotate which is nice, and beers before 6pm are only 5 bucks!! As an added bonus, it looks like Chapman students and faculty get a free upgrade to a combo (fries & drink) for free with ID, can't beat that. Overall I'm impressed, passed this place dozens of times and finally got to check it out, I'm hooked on the quality of the meet and ingredients, and will definitely be coming back. I was originally pretty excited to try this spot because it has burgers, fries, and chicken sandwiches in Asian flavors. The menu looks impressive and it was hard to choose one thing. I got the miso chicken karaage fries, which was a bowl of fries topped with chopped up fried chicken and a miso drizzle. The chicken tasted more like chicken katsu than karaage but my main issue was the miso drizzle was way too salty and sweet to eat. After awhile, it was just overpowering and made it difficult to eat. Even if I was splitting it, it'd be too salty. It does have a cute patio for outdoor seating, perfect for kids and dogs. read more

I was looking for a quick bite to eat and decided to stop by since I was in the area and the reviews/photos looked good. It's a Japanese cushion spot. Inside does have some places to sit, but it is in the downtown area so the space is small. I ordered the Topa Topa burger which was so delicious! I was sad that the burger by itself was $15 after tax. Seems like a lot of places now aren't giving fries with burgers like they used to, you have to buy everything separate which really adds up, probably would've been $25-30 if I got a full meal JUST for myself...a side of just salted fries was an extra $5, I didn't even bother looking at the drink prices. In that same breath, I'm happier giving money to "stand-alone/mom & pop" places than chain food places. I did want to try the Wagu Fries but was informed they had run out of the shredded/chopped waygu unfortunately. The service was pretty quick considering it was made-to-order and the guy taking my order was nice. Someone was picking up his son from work there and said the smash burger was good. He also mentioned the place usually had a line out the door, but I was glad I came at an off time so I didn't have to wait (no one else was in the restaurant). read more

How come I can't reach you on the number listed on your website? I've tried several times on different days. I get a Verizon message that says this phone's Voicemail is not set up. Is there seating for a party of 7 early 5ish on a Saturday evening?
There are plenty of sitting outside area. There are heaters too. I don't think they can accommodate 7 people inside the store.
Any gluten free bun options? and is the meat GF free?
Unfortunately we do not offer any gluten free offerings at the moment (because of space limitations), but we are definitely exploring for our next location.
Do you guys plan on making a vegetarian or vegan option?
We offer the option of Impossible patty for all of our burgers/sandwiches and we also have an amazing croquette sandwich.
