Takoyaki, mini spicy pork bowl, and matcha mousse

Such a fun quick bite to eat when walking around. Super easy to grab and go. The three mini choices option is perfect for those looking to try multiple things on the menu.

    Beef Tower

The Epic BEEF TOWER: thinly sliced ribbons of Roasted Beef with Japanese Mayonnaise, Mustard, Cabbage and Rice . . . This is a new addition to Oiden's menu, soo new in fact it's off the menu! The roast beef is deliciously tender and juicy. The mustard adds a zingy tang and the whole egg mayonnaise is creamy adding extra flavour to the roast beef. Served ontop of rice it makes a hearty meal but not too heavy. Get your beef tower on @oidencbd big Arigatō gozaimasu to @washokulovers for inviting us for a Japanese feast

Located on George Street near the cinemas, I came here before I was meeting some friends for drinks. I would nearly always go to Menya Mappen next door as I love eating their udon but this time round I tried something different. Like next door, it is self service so order at the counter and make sure you pick up a black tray to collect your food on. Pick up any drinks you want before ordering your food as well. You can then select from their hot food station to add any extras if a bit more ravenous. Service is polite and efficient. I went with Ontama Teriyaki Chicken Bowl, and Curry Croquette. You can choose between having a regular and large bowl as well. The chicken was tasty and had a nice flavour to it. Rice was well seasoned with the sauce. The egg could've been cooked slightly longer as very runny. The croquette had a nice crunch and nice potato filling.

Really delicious and authentic food. Glad to use yelp to find this place in Sydney!! Recommend their roasted beef dishes.

    Karague, mayo and ginger!!!

FAST. It's a Japanese fast food: grab your tray, choose your meal and pay. Make your meal by selecting singular items or just choose one of the sets and upgrade them with combos available as well. DELICIOUS. It's fast and delicious. Now it starts to sound interesting. The big deal here is the "domburis". I took the large size karague with mayo and ginger. Good!!! AFFORDABLE. This is what we're waiting for: cheap price. There're three different sizes and you can easily have a good meal for just $10,00 or less. Amazing!!! ***TIP: NO CARDS. CASH ONLY. If you feel uncomfortable people watching you while you're eating, keep away from the seats in front of the window glass. There are always people looking at the menu outside. But definitely this is a "must go" place!!!

The set menu: rice, miso, coleslaw with Japanese dressing, and mystery something. Plus seaweed salad. All for $5.50. Bargs!

A set meal for $4.60? With 4 different components? Right in the middle of the George St entertainment district? No. Impossible. Was what I thought before rocking into Oiden full of piss and vinegar and blustering like a WWII general with a walrus mustache and a penchant for trench warfare. And yet there it was. A tray with a bowl of rice topped with chopped shallots and tempura flakes, miso soup with noodles, coleslaw with sharp Japanese dressing, and a little plate of a mystery something that was as tasty as it was unknowable. Slather chilli dust and soy on to taste and walk away stuffed with a pocket full of money you've saved. The rest of the menu looks epic, but really, the set meal is the dog's bollocks. If I was a student I would never leave except to go to the bathroom. Or I would just wear a nappy to solve that problem and literally never leave.

Large Pork Katsu rice bowl ($7.90)

[Cash Only !] [$0.20 extra for to-go containers] Agreed with fellow yelpers that this place has good prices (considering how expensive eating out is in Sydney). We ordered 1) Teriyaki Chicken 2) Pork Katsu 3) Takoyaki ($2) 1) Even though we ordered a large bowl, the portion size was quite small (boo!). As you can see from the photo, there were only 5 small pieces of chicken. Unfortunately the chicken was a little dry. 2) Not sure what's the difference between a regular and a large bowl. Im guessing it's the amount of rice they put in the bowl. (I wouldnt order a large next time, too much rice for two pieces of pork katsu). However, the pork katsu was crispy, love it ! 3) Yum Yum Yum ! Would love to give it a 4 star but because of the dry chicken, im giving this place a 3 star :( There are tables/seats inside and outside the restaurant. It's pretty darn hot inside, so I would recommend eating outside :)

Oiden Oiden Bo Boiden... Banana Fana Fo Foiden... Me My Moiden... OIDEN!! Oiden will forever be linked to my early days in Sydney - when I was afraid to spend more than $10 on a meal since I was unemployed in a foreign land. My two (2) favorite bowls: Ontama Beef Bowl (Stewed Beef w/Rice and Soft Boiled Egg) Oroshi Beef Bowl (Stewed Beef w/Rice and Ponzi Infused Radish) Large for only $7.90!!!! The place is hidden away in a quasi-shopping centre on George Street. It can fill up quickly during peak hours. But there are plenty of tables just outside the restaurant, so you'll always have a place to sit and enjoy your food. I love sitting by the giant window at one of the bench seats... It's a perfect place to people watch and feed into every voyeurs fantasy - I turn on my "O" Face when I know people are watching me eat. I make that beef bowl sexier than Miranda Kerr at a Victoria Secret Fashion Show. I only know this because people don't run away, but rather rush to queue up to order :) I like adding a ton of crispy tempura flakes to my bowl as well as chili powder and a squirt of chili sauce with every spoon full.

I found Oiden because it's next to Mappen. After trying both, I prefer Oiden even if I like Japanese noodles better. They are very similar Japanese restaurants. One serves noodle, and the other serves rice. I tried Favorite 3, not bad to taste and with great value.

    My 3 dishes for $9.90 AUD meal: 7, 9 and 11

This place offers really good and delicious meals for a cheap price. 3 dishes for only $9.90! I ordered 7, 9 and 11 on the menu. This place is always full if people in the queue. It's sort of like a Japanese fast good, but their food is really good!

    Vegetarian ontama, half eaten
    Betty C.

I came here after dancing, and I got the ontama vegetarian, while my friend got the ontama salmon. The waiting line was much like a school canteen/Japanese system. The food was refreshing and well presented, the only thing we would change is if the place had air conditioning and/or more seating.

Motto is the underdog of Japanese restaurants at Sussex Centre. Not only do they live in the shadow of highly rated Ramen Ikkyu, but Motto's location doesn't get the best foot traffic either. The escalators up from ground floor plop you out on the opposite side. This was my third time visiting Motto. Typically, there would be one or two very helpful and courteous girls who greet and coax you into checking out their menu. Thank goodness for picture menus! This time there was a dude by the of Chris working behind the counter. He first thanked me for stopping to look at the menu, then after suggesting that I should try one of the deep-fried options, he thanked me again for ordering. Genuinely courteous? Absolutely! CHICKEN KATSU PLATE ($9) OMG!!!! Best bang for your buck for suuuuure! The chicken is exactly how Chicken Katsu is supposed to be made. Crispy, flaky outside and juicy inside. If you've read my other reviews, you know I can consider myself a bit of a Chicken Katsu snob since that's my go-to-dish at Japanese restaurants. To top things off with this belly-loving dish, you get rice, a side salad w/dressing and miso soup... Oh and almost forgot THE BEST part - FREE ICE CREAM!!!!! Definitely coming back again to try another suggestion..

PROBABLY THE BEST JAPANESE BBQ PLACE IVE EVER BEEN TO!…read more And yes, this deserves all caps. Located in a little alleyway in Sydney's CBD, Suminoya doesn't look like much. But you're not coming here for waterside ambience, you're coming for the food...and it delivers. First the logistics: You get 70 minutes to order, and 90 minutes to eat. I was with a party of 6 hungry people (4 adults and 2 kids), and it seemed a bit rushed. I wish we had the full 90 minutes. But we were really hungry, so we were furiously ordering. Ordering is done off of an iPad on the table. It was a slick set up, ordering was easy, and servers were fast. We all ordered the full buffet ($65 for adults); highly recommended as this includes the Kobe beef. Kobe beef was probably the most flavorful I've had anywhere. I ordered the ribs, cubes, and steak...this was like meat candy. Sushi was also of surprisingly good quality Salmon melted in your mouth and the scallops were fresh and flavorful. We ordered about 6 rounds through the 70 minute ordering period, right up until the final minute. I could have used an additional 20 min so I didn't feel rushed, but I definitely had all you could eat. Will definitely return when I go to Sydney!
