Call me crazy, but this is probably the best experience I've had at a BMV. They don't bill you for the driving test, only the temp permit if you pass. So if you fail, you don't need to worry about paying. The people behind the counter are very non judgemental of your situation and very patient. Absolutely the WORST BMV in Columbus. I waited 1 hour 45 minutes, only to be told that, due to confusion with my number, I had to start over from the beginning. I was late to the window due to getting my number mixed up with another previous number from another BMV. I am a licensed social worker and do this work all the time. I'm being paid with your tax dollars to assist my disabled clients, and the longer I wait the more money YOU waste for me to just sit there. NO concession was offered for the mistake. To preface, NOBODY likes going to the BMV, but you would think if you follow directions and do what you are supposed to do, for worst thing you have to do is wait. However, this experience was especially annoying. I went to the office in early June, a few weeks after the re-opening of government offices after the COVID19 lockdown. I expected the lines to be long. I expected the procedures to be different. I followed the advice of the Ohio BMV website and checked into this location online and was given an "11 minute" wait time and a line number. (I know now, that wait time number is arbitrary and useless) Upon arrival, there was one line wrapped around the entire building. The Directions from the text I received from the BMV after checking in online told me to go to the Kiosk and check in to secure my spot in line. I Walked to the front of the line to approach the door to get to the kiosk but was NOT permitted inside to check in. They were absolutely no directions about where to stand if you had checked in online so I asked people that were standing in line if they knew anything. One woman said "I checked in online, but didn't know what to do so I just stepped into the long line and have been here for an hour and a half" (I was obviously NOT about to do that, since I assumed I already had a spot in line) After standing looking confused for a few minutes , Somebody that was braver than I, walked into the office to ask what we were supposed to do if we checked in online (as there were no directions or signs given at the facility about where to stand.) She came right back out and said to all of us that the office worker told me to stand behind the sign 6 feet apart and someone would come out and get me. So all of The online check ins subsequently obliged and started a new line behind the sandwich board. Soon there after, an irate office worker came out and started yelling at patrons who are standing in the new line. She said to us "I don't care if you have checked in online, you aren't going to get to go in before these people who are in this longer line just because you have a cell phone and the means to do check in online, just because you saw other people do it. There's no way to prove you that you didn't just do this right now as you were standing here." I piped up and said, "ma'am, yes actually there is a time stamp on the text message, and many of these people checked in quite a while ago and have already been given a line number. We are simply following the directions we were given." She proceeded to argue with me and said that wasn't possible to prove. I showed her my phone with the time stamp of the check in, and the email confirmation, and then finally she came out with a clipboard and took down everyone's numbers and then we were served promptly. Once I was INSIDE the office, I was able to renew my license quickly, get my picture taken and leave in about 5 minutes. It was clean and prompt. Moral of the story- check in online, wait behind the sandwich board and if they don't come out to get you, go in and let them know you are there because there is NO kiosk to confirm your spot in line. I feel really bad for the office workers because it would Seem there was not a lot of preparations for all the changes with the online check in. They are working like crazy in there to keep the line moving but there HAS to be more directions posted outside to help patrons know what to do so they aren't wasting their time with crowd control outside. read more

I had a great experience. I moved to OH this month from Phx. I was able to complete my driver license transfer and they provided me the next steps for completing my auto title/registration transfer. I was in/out in 25 min, including the wait time. Everyone was friendly and in the short time I was there I witnessed them efficiently deescalate a couple tense situations with other customers. Our family moved back to Columbus this summer and my youngest son just turned 18. Like the majority of other teenagers he's been anxious to take his drivers test, but we had all of our kids wait until they turned 18 to begin driving. Sure it meant that we would be chauffeurs a bit longer, but our kids would be a bit more mature once they eventually got behind the wheel. This morning we went to the BMV on Morse Rd for his test and Officer Buford was at the registration desk. There was NO LINE at all- so we walked right up to the front. His pleasant demeanor and smile helped alleviate any anxiety my son may have had, going so far as to constantly speak in the future/positive: "Once you pass your exam...", "After the Examination Complete screen...". That was a cool, positive reinforcement that I noticed, even if my son didn't. Actually, my son didn't need the extra motivation as his study skills paid off acing the exam. When we got to the desk for what to do next officer Buford gave him a high-five. How cool is that!! Then Miss Jackie asked for our ID and proof of address info at the desk on the other side of the BMV. She also was smiling and pleasant- a FAR CRY from our experiences with the numerous curmudgeons at the Virginia DMV. His application processed quickly and soon he had his shiny new license. As a parent, this was by-far the easiest and most enjoyable drivers test/Motor Vehicle Bureau experience I've had in any state. read more

Look - it's the BMV, nobody wants to come here. The Northland BMV is fine. They are relatively efficient and the online check in system seems to work well. I usually go on a weekday in the morning, which certainly improves the experience. The Northland BMV has plenty of stations (probably 6 or 7) for licensing and registration, as well as the connected title agency with a similar number. Last 2 times I've been, I've been in and out in about 30 minutes. I have incredibly thick glasses that glare, so shout out to the woman who took my picture 3 times in order to make it not terrible for the next 8 years. read more

Filled out my info online so I can get in and get out. I followed the instructions to let them know when I was there which I was told to stay in the car. So when I finally did go in and filled out my paper to get a DL they had already called my number....so I got put to the back of the line and had to start all over. Man, this place has gotten WAY better, more efficient, and friendlier since I was last here. The one who helped me, Bergandy, explained that they have really put a lot into upgrading the experience and service and it really shows. Kind, orderly, timely service, and I was there to get registration, plates, tags, AND transfer an out-of-state driver's license. The whole thing took me, maybe 20 minutes to a half hour as a WALK-IN from the office next door, where I got my title transferred in about the same time (after setting an appointment for that one). In that office, Mica helped me with the nicest demeanor. So here I am with a new title, a new driver's license (temporary until I get the official one sent in the mail), new plates, new tag, and new registration, in about an hour between the two adjoining offices. Very very busy motor vehicle office but the clerks keep it moving and if you only need new stickers or plates you can use the express red carpet line. Prepare to stand a lot in line, they don't register & call you like next door at the title agency; almost no seating anyhow. The people working here were all friendly but otherwise it's kind of a joyless place. Smiling not encouraged for the license picture. Don't bring coffee for your wait, food & drink prohibited. And phones are prohibited too, they sometimes yell at the people trying to pass the time playing on their devices. read more

They have a staft member, who usually is the least friendly of the bunch, to guide you and let you know that you're not waiting in the wrong line. Bad service. Spent hours for my driver license. The guy at the check-in counter gave me a paper for me to fill out. After I done, I saw so many people lined up and he was talking to people in the line, I looked at him and put the paper on the table and waited. I haven't dealt with other staff but the guy with light Afro (light skin black guy) was the rudest son of a bitch I know of who's still keeping the job. This place slower than the turtle not recommendable place in my opinion. I went with my dad to get his new vehicle's registration and upon arrival the line was long. All the line were mixed up, people with no clue what line they were standing in. I went in to see if I have to check in or fill out some type of form to get the things started. But on of the lady instructed us to go outside and wait in line. So We waited like everyone and she started giving the ticket/number. There weren't any instructions after that. All that was said was, "wait until you get the text" and no further info. We waited nearly two hours and went to the other location and it took less than 30 minutes to do everything. We came home and my phone rings saying my wait is 15 minutes after 3 hours. It's Ridiculous. read more

So easy! You tell the person what you want to accomplish and if it can be done there, you're directed to wait in line. Overall it was easy to get in and out of the office. One section took care of licenses and another section took care of plates. The plate section seemed to be a very organized chaos. People were coming and going up to the counter but the staff was able to keep track of what everyone needed. Went for driver license renewal. Awful experience: to begin w/I registered on line only to wait 2 hrs to get in bldg then yelled @for having water bottle (which I was offered outside). Gets horribly worse when MEANEST woman ever yelled for not having documents out of envelope/told to sit down (evidently a superior came by) so she let me stay at counter. Then got reprimanded on the vision test. Also said I would need to get a form for airline compliant license. After ALL of this, made me think had to leave and come back w/form (she finally gave me a form). Most RUDE, MEANEST, AWFUL woman ever!! Finally got a nice lady who took my picture(I think she knew what a HARD TIME the other person was giving me). So she was very kind to me. read more

Another new location, along with the title bureau. The line was long when I got there, but moved quickly. I had a complicated situation but the staff were very helpful and friendly and sorted it out quickly; I saw them helping others with the same mix of courtesy and professionalism. No cell phone use though, even in the line, and they mean it. Still cash or check only; I was hopeful when I saw the signature pad, but it's just for license signatures. ATM right there in the lobby, which they let me run to. I continue to be pleasantly surprised with local registrars and BMV locations. So much different than when you were treated as an annoyance just for being there. read more

I asked the employee managing the front door if I just needed to walk in, as she told me to wait she let the last 4 people in and then told me I should have just walked in that they aren't taking more than those 4. While Saturday is generally a poor time deal with the BMV, there was a main point of contact whose sole job was to triage. This system proved effective despite the long accumulating lines. However, I arrived for new plates which involves a vehicle inspection. During my inspection the inspector insisted to decipher my vehicle's Vin from the windshield ignoring my suggestion to read the door panel. As a result numbers were missed and I had to get back in line for another inspection. More lines later, I got my plates after arguing with a bureaucrat that my small leased pickup was not for commercial purposes and shouldn't be classified as commercial. read more

I got in-line ahead of time as my mother is 81 and I needed to update her ID. I didn't want her waiting too long as it was very busy with no social distancing enforced. We waited patiently with masks and when I spoke to manager as it was after 5, she said we had been missed and could not take us. My father and I went to check to see about license plates after we went t to the title place. The girl that was at the table when u enter was on her phone while we were walking in. My father asked her a question and she told him to go to the title place-she obviously was t paying attention to his question. I rolled my eyes and then she starts screaming at me that "I am so extra and I should act grown." This is not professional behavior-she is a young girl-however telling people they are"extra" is appalling. The worst BMV I have never being. I went back there three times for something they could fix in less than a minute. The lady(deputy) told me she can't fix the issue but when I told her that I want to speak to her supervisor she fixed it and charged me extra $5 not the deputy fee which usually charge to everyone else. When I asked why she charged me, she told me that she tried something else. That should be ILLEGAL. She gets pay to do the job and not charging people for fixing something. If I could put 0 stars, I would. This place is a joke. Not only did I work on swapping my out of state license from another state to ohio. i was run around for 2 months because they would only give me one piece of information at a time. This one specific larger black male, not sure of his name, after waiting two months for the social security card to come in bc my old one was laminated(only state that has had an issue with it) I was given a license, went out to get motorcycle permit, told me my license was suspended. They JUST gave me a license 40 mins before that. I tried to take my license paper, the same guy tried to hold it where I couldn't grab it, then when I got it, he took my social security card and said I won't give this back to you until you give me the license paper. Meanwhile they had already punched out my georgia license to void it and he said "your gonna be screwed now"... Well guess what BUDDY, after talking to the manager of all registrars in ohio, THE NEXT DAY i was sent to westerville location by the manager of all deputy registrars and got my license and permit from their manager bc the BMV knew that large black male was in the wrong 100%... Glad that there are a few competent people out there still. This location is a joke and LUCKY i didn't file suit against them for that incident. That guy behind the counter should be fired, no doubt. I first gave this BMV 5 stars for their quick service. I moved from Oklahoma to Ohio...and had to transfer my title over. Well, they did it pretty quickly and I was on my way. About two week later, I get a letter in the mail stating that they need more documentation to correct my title and that they're "sorry for the inconvenience." Really?? You'd think people at tag agencies would have half a clue as to what they're doing and do things right the first time! Now I have to take time out of my day to go over there and see what they need. Before I filled in form, I asked if there was anything else missing. They said no. Then, the guy disappeared for 1 hour and came back. After another half a hour, I was called. The guy said I miss social security card. That was ridiculous. I asked the question specifically at the beginning. Third time, I am the only one on the line. Walked in hoping this wouldn't be a long experience as I've had to deal with many DMVs before in other cities and luckily it wasn't too long. Once you've stood in line for 20mins they finally call you up to the counter to get the rest of the information from you. Got to the counter, was asked to fill out some more information, looked at my phone for a quick second to confirm what day it was which I was then yelled at for doing so rather than asking Roncoa (the clerk with the bag wig) directly. Not sure if she's new or not because she kept making mistakes and asking me the same question repeatedly. After yelling at me about looking at my phone for the date she then grabs the work phone and makes a personal phone call to her mother. Attempting to multitask while she's on her personal phone call and still "help" me. Found this to be very unprofessional and inconsiderate as there was a line of 10 people behind me waiting to get scene. I'd recommend any other clerk than her. read more

I would strongly recommend not going on Saturday. Parking lot was full, line to check in was out the door and all those people made for a very cramped waiting space. I think the intensity of clients and working on a beautiful Saturday morning had gotten to the staff. They came off as annoyed, and inconvenienced when people did not understand what they were asking or did not have the correct documentation. When I noticed my name was spelled wrong on my driver's license. It seemed that it was a huge inconvenience to get the license reprinted. I could not wait to get out of there.
