Update: The salon called me today to issue a refund and a credit to my account! I'm very thankful for them making it right. I have updated my stars from 1 to 3, because of the customer service. Let me start by saying the girl that cut my hair was so sweet. She tried her best and I know that. But she was clearly not ready to have a real client, she even felt that way. She wasn't even sure how to fill out the initial client form. I am not blanking her, she just didn't know. The teacher had to take over after she chopped my hair. It took over 2 hrs for an easy cut. I know you get what you pay for, but it was just sad that she got thrown to the wolves without being ready, and it was sad for me to be the Guinea pig. But oh well. I am on the fence about Ogle. I started getting my hair straightened and now my hair is permanently damaged from high heat. I no longer have that beautiful curl pattern that I once loved. But, perhaps this is what is inevitable once you add heat to your hair. The styles may be pretty, but it so not worth the damage. I must add that I used to go to a place and get my hair straightened but experienced no damage from the heat or at least very little. I only went to Ogle because my sister gave me a gift card for my birthday. I liked the style and unfortunately continued to get my hair flat ironed, so hence the heat damage. That explained, the customer service is fairly good and the stylists are quite friendly. Just keep in mind, they are still learning. read more

The experience and environment was very different than I am used to. I understand that this is a school, but students should be practicing how to act with clients in a professional setting. The only reason I decided to try this place out is because a family member is a student here. Upon walking in, the three girls at the check in looked unwelcoming and bored. I was the one who had to greet them and say I had an appointment.I received a facial, so they bring you into the spa room after you fill out forms and sign waivers. They have relaxing music playing which I like, but throughout my facial all I hear are girls talking about their personal lives over the music. At first it didn't bother me, but it never ended. The girls were cussing and laughing so loud that it was no longer relaxing. Like I mentioned, these students should practice how to be professional especially when a client is present because it reflects the school. I had the pleasure of going to Ogle School to have my hair styled. I did not have an appointment, but they fit me in. My wait was less than 15 minutes. Kayla was assigned to me and was friendly and professional from the start to finish. After asking me questions about my hairstyle preferences and wishlist, she explained how she planned to style my hair, i.e. wash, conditioner, blowout and flat iron. She was gentle while shampooing/conditioning my hair and literally put me to sleep. The finished style had a lot of body and sheen. She pointed out the discount available if I wanted to purchase the shampoo and conditioner my hair needed for moisture, thickening and protein. There's also a discount if you schedule your next appointment. Overall it's clear Ogle is teaching their students to be personable, informed and professional stylists. I will be back. read more

Horrible! I spent 2 hours here for just partial highlights. The blow out was also poorly done and my hair looked like a big ball of frizz when I left. The girl that worked on my hair knew NOTHING and kept asking me every 5 minutes if what she was doing was right. I am not a hair stylist, how am I supposed to know?! I asked for peekaboo, light-brown highlights, but instead received hidden, THICK, BLONDE highlights and it looks so tacky. My highlights don't "peek out", they are just hidden under a thick layer of hair that she left untouched... so if I were to flip my hair it'd just look so uneven and noticeably BLONDE on black hair! I didn't want to hurt her feelings because she is just a student and obviously still learning, so I did not express my disappointment. I decided to just write a yelp review to warn other people! Also, the school needs to separate their booths further from one another! The entire time I was super uncomfortable because my chair would be hitting the other girl's chair next to me and we had no leg space whatsoever. It was too crowded. Furthermore, the students here gossip a lot. It is so unprofessional. The two hours I was there I heard nothing but the students talking badly about their instructors. I wanted a quick trim after coming out of braids. A friend told me about the school and I called and made an appointment, asking for a stylist that can do natural hair. They gave me Brianna (spelling may be off). I was called 45 minutes late, even though walk-ins were seen before me. I decided not to switch because I assumed I had the best person for my hair. She didn't know how to blow dry my hair. It wasn't as blown out as it could've been. We agreed on cutting about a 3/4 inch, after she held my hair up to a white sheet and everything. Just...a...trim. This girl proceeded to hack inches off my hair, and give me chin length layers all around my head, where it was to my shoulders. My hair was well past my shoulders upon walking in. The girl had the audacity to say she decided once she got in my head to give me a more even afro and cut more. WTF?!?! Without even asking ME???? My chair was away from the mirror 3/4 of the time, plus with all the care I took to say the amount, a fool could understand it. All she said was a dry "I'm sorry" and take payment. Upon arriving home, I realized the shortness as I began to twist my hair. I had called up to speak with 2 of her supervisors, but although they seemed concerned, they asked to call me back and didn't. I drove back up and since they were all gone, another instructor, Danielle, had to blowout and flat iron my hair to see how she could fix it. It was worse than we thought. Some areas hadn't been trimmed well, while others were HACKED. She couldn't even hold her reaction well because the job was so bad. Honestly if I was ratchet enough, I'd be cursing and fighting for what that girl did to me. Scary thing is, she graduates in a month and will be trying to get her license!!! At this point, the only thing I can do is grow out my hair after being set back several months to a YEAR, because of this girl's incompetence. The one star that I have to give belongs to Danielle for correcting the CUT I DIDN'T ASK FOR as best she could. In my pictures, the 4 together are my hair several months before. The curly hair down my back was July. The pics in the orange shirt are the current photos. 7 months of growth AFTER this plus some swept up and just thrown away. read more

Because this is a cosmetology school, the people who will be working with your hair are current students. However, they are in their last year and are under supervision, so there's no need to worry about whether or not they know what they're doing. Every time I get my hair cut here, the students are consistently very courteous and always want to make sure that I'm getting what I want. This past visit, I had Rachael work on my hair. She was great; very personable and considerate. When she needed some guidance, she wasn't afraid to ask her supervisor, which is definitely something I respect. I didn't get the name of the teacher, but she was also very kind and knowledgeable. The pricing is significantly cheaper than ordinary salons, with women's cut/style priced at $8, and if you want a wash it's only one extra dollar. There is a $10 fee for long hair. Also, you get two dollars off if you check in with Yelp. I would like to give this place 5 stars, however there has always been a long wait. I always make an appointment beforehand, but I have yet to start my appointment on time. The last couple of times I went I had waited around 40 minutes after my appointment time before getting a chair, and the place did not seem overly crowded or short staffed. read more

When you walk in and note how inadequate the lighting is right of the bat, turn and RUN out of the place! Follow your first mind! Not only was my highlights and low lights horrible but the cut was even worse. A three yr. Old could have done better. I asked NOT to layer my hair and they did just that! It will take months to grow out. The worse part about the cut is the TRAINER/TEACHER is the one who cut it!! I have to start chemo soon and thought that I would get my hair done prior just in case I start losing it so I could have my hair cut off and have a wig fashioned for me with my own hair! I originally gave this place a 5 star rating. Denita did a great job on my hair with color and a haircut. I had about 3 appointments with her. Tonight I went in for my scheduled appointment and I was not on the schedule. The receptionist went to talk to Denita and Denita told the receptionist my appointment was next Thursday. Denita did not even have the courtesy to come out and talk to me about another time. If she expects to keep clients after she graduates, she needs to understand what customer service is or she will not be successful. I will never go back again. read more

Honestly the only reason the Ogle School salon has the star ratings that they do is because happy clients like myself don't post positive experiences. I assure you this place has more happy clients then unhappy clients so please don't let these few negative reviews stop you from trying them out. I got a very good shampoo and my locks re-twisted and I recommend you Try them out for yourself, you wont regret it. They really do go above and beyond to satisfy their clients but a lot of these people leave negative comments because their expectations were unrealistic in the first place. The short of it: Your results will vary depending on your stylist. I rolled lucky. Low price, good quality. Just went here today. When I arrived, it took a while for them to start on my hair for my 2 o'clock appointment (~10 minutes of waiting) and then another period of time for them to actually start cutting my hair (~15 minutes or so). My hair wasn't touched until around 2:30. I'm not sure if this was a one time thing since it was my first time being there, but it's a first impression. My stylist was Kim (she graduates soon, so go soon if you can). She did a great job on my hair, but be aware that your results will vary. The friend who recommended the place to me had an awful experience. Just know they they're supposed to shampoo after every haircut - that's what i was told. My friend didn't have the same experience. Her stylist didn't listen to her directions and didn't give a shampoo afterwards. It's a fine place to go to and the cut was cheap ($9), but be aware that your results WILL vary. I took my daughter here for her first visit and unfortunately she wasn't ready. Cried and screamed. Stylist/student was very patient. Was able to be take care of in a private room where they hold lessons. One thing was a couple students came in I guess to look at my daughter cry. Wasn't fond of that at all but stylist was 5 star in my opinion. Now why I'm giving 3 is what happened before. I actually came in the Tuesday before for a service on my daughter and called ahead before I made the 45 min drive. Was told one thing on the home and completely different when I showed up. Student was very rude till the point I didn't want to even do the service and I hadn't even stepped in the back. Left and called to speak to someone in charge to let them know what just happened kept being placed on hold. Someone took my number never called me back. I called again Thursday finally spoke with someone apologized and made an appt again for this last Saturday morning. Definitely has a better experience when I went in again customer service wise. I really thank the stylist Jasmine for her kindness and oriente towards our daughter hair and it being her first time. I have a thick 4c. I went for a press silk and trim. So tell me why I have 5 different people doing my hair. Few points in the blow drying and flat iron they were two people. At least three people were rough my hair either through combing or using the tension method. I have been doing my own hair since I was 16 years. So if you have a natural thick 4c hair and you want to go get a silk press make sure that they have anyone who specialize in natural hair and they know what they are doing. If not just leave because I ended up with a headache and it took like 5 hours for a silk press which I think it ridiculous if I can use 4-6 hours to do my braids. They use exceeds heat and it is really unnecessary. Hopefully I don't get any heat damage. Got my hair done yesterday and it is already frizzed this morning. I read the reviews prior to calling in to make an appointment and notice several negative reviews. I decided to book appointment anyway since my daughter has used their services in the past and she was "somewhat satisfied". I called and spoke to a young lady I told her I wanted a wash, flat iron and trim she made appointment and I asked how much she quoted $31. I've used beauty schools in the past before and thought that was really expensive especially since I can go to my beautician and pay $50 for the same services and wouldn't have to worry about if my hair will be done correctly since these are students. I arrive and a older gentleman at the desk check me in and I told him I would like to verify the price because what I was quoted seem high. I told him I was there for a wash, trim and flat iron and I was quoted $31. He said with a condescending tone "first of all the person over the phone shouldn't have told you a price". I'm like what? He proceeded to say "we wont know a price until the student see you and write up a ticket and it could be higher". He said styles "start" at $23 and up, cuts "start" at $11 and up. I informed him "I dont want a cut only a trim". He stated "there's no such thing as a trim its considered a cut". Let me point out I've never been in a beauty school that dont have prices listed on the wall. In addition to how are you a beauty school quoted prices like this when you can add another $20 and get a professional to do the same services. Even established beauty shops have their prices listed online or some have it in the shop. Smh. I informed him "when I'm taken in the back and the student quote me a price if its higher than $31 I will cancel". I sit down and begin to wait. He announces 10 mins later to everyone waiting "there is a limited amount of students present and others will be coming in soon I guess they still hung over from last night but you will be serviced in order once they arrive". That was so unprofessional now I see why several comments stated the unprofessionalism of the people there. After he made that announcement I simply got up and told the young lady you can cancel my appointment and walked out. I went ahead and made an appointment with my stylist for Monday and the exact services I wanted here and was quoted $31 or POSSIBLY HIGHER is only $50 with my stylist. This what happens when you dont want to wait til Monday to get your hair styled and instead looking for a quick fix. SMH, never again will I ever consider scheduling an appointment at Ogle. read more

This place is SUCH A JOKE!!! TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL!!! Do not schedule a salon appointment because they will have you sitting and waiting while no one knows what's going on! There is no sense of organization and the people who are supposed to be in charge - Ms. Roberts doesn't have CLUE! My stylist was Jackie and she was very friendly, she made sure I was comfortable through every step of the process (washing, brushing my hair etc..) I tried this school out twice - the first go around was great however my opinion changed quickly after the second visit and it dealt with scheduling in two different ways: I called the school several times throughout the day to book an appointment and was told that I had a 10:00 hair appointment and an 11:30a facial appointment. When I arrived at the school I was told I wasn't on the book at all. I attempted to vocalize my issues with the instructor that was there but instead of understanding my circumstance he spoke down to me as if I were a juvenile.
