Giovanna is highly experienced in hair color, highlights, cuts and styling. I moved to Avon Lake, Ohio in 2014 and was not able to make my as many trips to Florida for my hair. I've been going to Aveda salons for a while now. Usually the appointments are a few weeks out. I didn't want to wait and was happy to get an appointment at Oggi Salon. This location is located directly in the downtown district so give yourself a little extra time to find parking if you want to park on the street. There is also a municipal parking garage near by. The Salon itself was nice and clean. The staff is courteous. They offered me something to drink as I waited for my stylist. I had an appointment for Balayage and hair touch up. I brought a picture and showed the stylist the color I wanted. You could tell she was an experienced stylist but the actual experience was not like the usual Aveda experience I was used to. Usually I get a nice head massage while my hair is washed. I did not get that. That is usually the best part. At one point, my head was burning. I told the stylist and she said it was normal. To be quite honest, I've had the same processes done at another Aveda salon and never had that burning sensation. That is the reason I pay twice as much for an Aveda Salon. The color also did not come out as I asked. At check out, they did not ask me if I wanted to book a future appointment. I take that as they were not interested in keeping me as a customer. I had my first haircut at Oggi Salon about a year ago. I stopped going because I found a wonderful lady who cut my hair out of her home for a much more affordable price and she did a great job. My lady has since moved and I was in desperate need of a cut. I decided to go back to Oggi more so out of convenience then anything else. So, I made my appointment only two days in advance and I was able to get a Saturday. Previously I had not had bad experiences at Oggi, I just didn't have great experience at Oggi. I had recommended to a few friends to go there but none went back after their first visit. The complaint was always customer service. When I got to my appointment I had to wait a little bit to get checked in because they were checking someone out. Right away though I remembered how much I love the decor and I love that strange natural/chemical smell that all Aveda salons have. Then women cutting my hair introduced herself and she was really nice and upbeat. She offered me something to drink, it looked like there was an extensive amount of drinks to pick from. Oggi Salon has really changed from what it used to be. Even a year ago I don't remember getting such welcoming and personal service! I showed her a picture of the cut I was going for, she made some helpful recommendations and we got the show on the road. She did a great job and I am really happy with the experience I had there. I will for sure be going back and I did make a follow up appointment. I wish I had taken some of the business cards for the girl who cut my hair because I will be for sure recommending her to other people. I work in an all female environment and we're always exchanging the numbers of good salons, nail places, etc. Now, I did not give this a five star review because one of the women working there, who was cutting hair and styling hair was also dying her own hair at the same time. I usually don't nit pick over things like that and I generally wouldn't even had mentioned it but it just was so strange to see. I would think it is something you could do after hours? This is a great salon! It didn't take very long for the owner, Giovanni, to get to know me and work me into her schedule. She made some recommendations that really helped my hair. I've been using Aveda for a long time but she has better understanding than most about the products. A move always brings many challenges. Finding your salon is a daunting task. I tried one Aveda salon in the Melbourne area and was not happy. Even with great Aveda color and products, can only do so much for hair. So happy I did not settle and tried again. The staff was warm and welcoming. Giovanna did an amazing job. Okay, so I am a part time resident of this area. I am also a faithful aveda salon goer. The overall ambience of the salon was nice, and as you would expect from aveda quality. When I walked in, I was calmed by the ambience but still nervous about visiting a salon away from my usual. Ok, so the day before I had gone in and made my appointment, briefed them on what I wanted and was looking forward to my time. When I finally went in for the appointment, the hairdresser seemed rushed and I really felt like she was doing what SHE wanted to do to my hair as opposed to what I wanted. They gave me a cappuccino which was nice, but NOT I repeat NOT an adequate compensation for what was to come. I wanted my hair to be a brownish/strawberry blonde (I had blonde hair before).. When I walked out I was too traumatized to even complain. I had basically black hair with patches of brown and some odd maroon purple color. When my dad picked me up, I thought he was going to cry.. This first try cost already around $220 including tip. The next day, still so traumatized, I called back and asked them to fix it. Instead of having a goal of pleasing a customer, they did not offer to even fix my hair but did work me in because my hair was SO AWFUL that I was willing to pay. They put some kind of peroxide solution on my hair to tone down the color, which made my hair feel like straw and broke basically all of it, causing me to now have nothing but split ends and damage that I have been told by other hairstylists is only repairable by time. This time, I walked out of the salon and looked like a creepy version of Ariel the little mermaid, or a chucky doll. I was absolutely mortified. I did not ask for or want bright red hair. Being myself, I still tipped the girl well out of courtesy because my parents raised me better than that. I have never been so condescended as the woman proceeded to basically assault me with color swatches, insisting that my hair was strawberry blonde and they had matched it perfectly. So rude. What customer service!! However, I obviously will never be returning here. Also, while I was sitting in the chair waiting to be fully "repaired" The same lady that dyed my hair proceeded to mortify another woman with the wrong hair color. By the end of this salon experience, I traveled home with neon orange hair, very embarrassed, was out OVER 300 DOLLARS!!!!!, and was greeted by a boyfriend who hardly recognized me.. read more

I've been going to Aveda salons for years and use their products without ever being unsatisfied until now. This salon is run by the nastiest woman. Don't even think about taking your kids with you or she will make rude comments to them and about them the entire time you are there. The stylists do a great job but if you looking for a nice salon with nice people, do yourself a favor & look elsewhere. If i could give it a zero I would. I've been to two Aveda salons before and to an Aveda training school many times. I've used the products for years and have been happy with the quality all around. I'm not new to Aveda whatsoever. I called to make an appointment and requested someone who was really good at cuts. I'm not so concerned about color since that can be corrected if worse comes to worse, but a cut is something that can destroy your hair for months to come. The girl who set up the appointment told me that xxx would be the best fit for me. Ok. I also let them know that I needed to be out the door at a certain time for a committment that couldn't be changed. When I walked into the Aveda salon, it had that great feel of every Aveda salon that I'd been in before. It's a pretty salon with all of the zen-ness that I'd expected. I became concerned when I noticed how small the salon was and that there was only ONE other customer. In the past I had waited weeks to get an appointment and here it appeared that you could be a walk in. After talking with the stylist, I realized that when I was told that I would get the "best fit" for a cut that that was a load of b.s. I got basically the only choice. It appears that there is a receptionist (who isn't on the styling floor yet), the girl who did my hair, and a woman who appears to be the owner/manager. The owner/manager was having a social hour on the floor with friends of hers like it was a coffee bar while I had my consultation. The girl who cut my hair was very friendly and seemed to listen. She was really sweet and I hope the best for her, but I can not go back after my experience. She did a partial highlight which turned out nicely, although I asked to go a bit more blonde and it wasn't. The cut is where it falls apart quickly - well - I should say it falls apart slowly. I showed her a photo of MY hair and told her that's how I wanted it. I verbally explained how I wanted it, as well. It was a photo of my hair so I know it could be done. No illusions of looking like a celebrity here just wanting to look like myself. I knew I was in trouble when she had 30 minutes to do the cut and the blowout before I had to leave. I had been there 2.5 hours at that point. I reminded her of my timeframe and she was aware. She went on and cut my hair and dried it. I should say that she partially dried it. Being familiar with Aveda cutting techniques made me very suspicious when she began to cut my hair in a method that I had never seen in my 40 years. She took long, heavy sections held them straight up above my head and whacked. Knowing that this was an Aveda salon, I tried to tell myself that it would be ok. She asked about the fringe framing the face and where exactly I wanted it cut. I had showed her the photo, but agreed to where she showed me she was going to cut. Knowing that time was running out she partially dried my hair and I was on my way. She told me that I would have to come back the next day for my hair to be texturized since I have really, really thick hair. Really? I allowed three hours for the appointment. I would think a partial foil, cut and blowout could be done in THREE hours. So...I go home and look at my hair and it is literally two inches shorter on one side than the other. For real. I showed people and they were shocked. I was in such a hurry to leave the salon that no cross checking or even a mirror to look at the back were offered. Knowing that I had to return the next day for the texturizing I tried to remain calm. I am terrified of haircuts. My first hairstylist cut my hair at age 6 and I stayed with him until I was in my 20's and moved out of the state. I find someone good and stay. I don't like change and thought choosing an Aveda salon would guarantee (as much as possible) something professional and consistent. I was amazed that something like this could happen there. When I went in the next day the salon again was empty. This is soooo not typical of Aveda. I had run that morning and didn't wash my hair in the shower before returning to Oggi b/c I thought that the stylist would shampoo my hair and start over since I had called with concerns about the length discrepancy. This wasn't the case. I really wanted the full blowout since my hair is frizzy and curly in the humidity. Getting it blown out is one of the best parts of going to a salon for me. I don't do it that often myself any more and really treasure having straight hair. Oh well. The owner/manager took the time to "teach" the stylist how to do the cut and crosscheck. She basically redid the cut for the stylist with no additional fee to me, of course. I realized when I washed my hair myself that it is jsut not a good cut. I have these weird choppy spots where the sides are much shorter than the back. I don't know enough to explain in hairstylist terms, but it is just messed up. I'm out of characters - but AVOID!!! read more

My experience at this salon was comparable to walking in, being punched in the face, having 70 dollars taken out of my wallet, and sent on my way (with a wet head, no less). I am a loyal Aveda salon-goer and always have a wonderful experience. I was away from home visiting family and desperately needed to have my color refreshed. I scheduled my appointment for a re touch. After having my hair washed, and being thrown to a different stylist than the one who had done my color, I was TOLD that I wouldn't "need a blow out, right?"--I have not been to a salon in AGES, not to mention an AVEDA salon, where a blow out was not included in getting a COLOR service. She then told me how I need to "think about having my formula changed" telling me in more or less words that the color did not take... the color I have been doing for 4 years now. No offer to fix it, and certainly no discount. I was charged for a FULL color, and walked out feeling dazed, confused and sick to my stomach. I would urge Aveda to rethink it's partnership with such an unprofessional establishment and certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone... especially if you are a first time client! read more

After seeing my review online, the owner called to offer me a complimentary hair cut and conditioning treatment. She seemed very apologetic for my previous experience at the salon. I wanted to give them a "second chance" since it is the only Aveda salon in the area. Christine cut my hair and did a fabulous job! I'm very happy with it. I really felt compelled to write this review since I am new to town and I don't want others reading the negative reviews and forming an opinion as I almost did. I went today to a hairstylist named Susie, and I am very picky about my hair (because I color it and am very particular), I lived in NYC for 10 years, and recently moved here from Cleveland. First the salon is in a cute area of town, the decor is pretty and eclectic - From the receptionist, very friendly and accommodating, to Susie who knows her stuff around color, and did a great color and blow out for me - I give them 5 stars and will plan to go back again soon! read more
