I use to take this as the cost of supporting mom and pop shops as they tend to have slimmer margins than a corporate entity. But it's gotten pretty ridiculous. Sandwiches are expensive and recently had a bad experience with buying cookies. They charged $20 for a dozen cookies. Nothing special, just regular chocolate chip cookies. The last time I purchased a dozen, several years back. it was $9 for a dozen. That's expensive too, but again, took it as supporting small business. And back then you'd get them on a little styrofoam plate with some saran wrap around it. This made it look somewhat presentable. Now they just throw them in a regular old ziplock bag like you're at a bake sale for an elementary school. They have also gone the way of a lot of counter service places in that they've added a tip line. And there's no way to bypass on their system, so you have to make a big deal about it or just tip no matter what. I've always been a good tipper, but the tipping culture has gotten out of control. I just can't justify $75 for a couple sandwiches, 2 small bags of chips, and a dozen cookies. Unfortunately, I will not be returning.

We both only ate half. We tried what they are famous for and agreed if this is there best we won't be going back. When we eat out I want something that is better than what I can throw together at home. This was more a convenient meal just ok.

Not sure if it's ownership I'm not sure if it's management but definitely I'm aware of the supply difference... Quality sharp decline... And it could be the Trump years that Americans have had it too good for too long and now we have to settle for less and just smile and take it... She ordered the rare roast beef sandwich today at Gelsinger's and was impressed by the look of the sandwich and even more impressed with the first bite. Sadly she informed me that we no longer needed to go to Canters. That won't happen and I can enjoy both places. I ordered the roast beef dip and it was delicious.
