I have been going to Mimosa since they opened in March 2010 and have experienced several exceptional services - pedicure, facial, manicure, and waxing to name a few. All of the staff are professionally trained and extremely knowledgeable of all the services offered. I had returned from a 4 month trip to a more humid climate (let's be honest, it is hard to go somewhere that isn't more humid then Edmonton) and was having trouble with breakouts on my face - I didn't know which facial would be best. But I didn't need to worry as the owner was able to tailor a facial specifically to my needs. I was very impressed with the results and feel that helped my skin adjust overall to being back in Edmonton. My favorite service is the pedicure. You can select between several options - I generally go with the Express Pedicure and then every once in a while spoil myself and splurge on the Signature Pedicure. They have the big relaxing massage chairs so the whole time your feet and lower legs are being pampered you can also be enjoying a back and neck massage. Mimosa also offer a membership for regular visitors - the membership has several benefits including discounts on all services so I think it is worth it even if you only go a couple times in a year. I love Mimosa and will continue to return regularly. I have also referred family and friends and they have all had the same wonderful experience as I do.

Reason #1 to avoid Wellness: If a spa is not toxic, Practitioners should not be constantly bullying clients into getting less services by devaluing their pain and disabilities. WOW staff are taking their personal problems out on their clients. It's actually been difficult to adjust to being treated professionally at other businesses/clinics... being respected, listened to, and valued feels odd... that's how toxic Wellness has become. I've felt such relief since I've stopped supporting WOW... you actually get treated well at other businesses/clinics! "No, I still need weekly treatment, means no, I still need weekly treatment." Clients should not have to say this over and over. As my physiotherapist remarked, clients should not have to validate their chronic pain to you, it's your job to listen. Initially, I gave them a chance to remedy it, however, in the end, I can't trust a place of business with my pain that supported this unprofessional and disrespectful behaviour from an RMT. When I was not well enough one week to get specific feedback to the massage therapist right away, I was told she no longer wanted to work with me. After 8 years of trusting someone, it was a shock. I broke the silence about unprofessionalism, and was fired as a client for it. Unsettling. Reason #2 to avoid Wellness: As another example, the STAFF centred care has become out of control... Products should not be taken off the shelf so you can't buy them and placed back out later. I started buying online so the staff could not lie to me about how much was left of a particular facial product... it's truly unprofessional. Wellness on Whyte has become unprofessional and has come away from client centred care. It's sad. One of the causes may be that the practitioners themselves use the products and services of Wellness, which is already a very small business. Wellness has limited appointments! When the practitioners see you booking services in advance, they become upset. The business model is flawed: It is another reason why it's become toxic. You can't have practitioners pressuring clients to cancel other appointments they genuinely want and need because they themselves want the services/ are horse trading with other practitioners in Wellness. If Wellness was not allowing their practitioners to "horse trade" services etc within the company, then there wouldn't be practitioners competing with clients for appointment spots. Again, highly unprofessional. Reason #3 to avoid Wellness: The more money you spend here, the more jealous the staff becomes and the meaner they get. It's bad business to let your staff bully your best clients. The LESS money you spend here, the MORE they will respect you. A clinic where the staff get a mean attitude when you give them more business, is not a place to be. In conclusion, I never thought after years of supporting this business that they would shift in such an unprofessional direction. They even somehow got my review removed from another platform, which is why I had to post on Yelp, where they cannot manipulate my review. Interesting how they do business here.... I wouldn't trust them with your credit card either, as they will charge you for half your appointment cost, even when you had unavoidable sickness or emergencies. They will waive the cost one time, and not again. The new polices allow them to rip you off, and it will cost you even if you don't get a reminder they were supposed to send. It's truly shocking how much the money matters most here, and yet on the other hand, the more money you spend, the more they treat you mean out of jealousy. Very unprofessional. My advice? Spend your money somewhere they actually want you to! LOL

She cut my sides and bangs VERY short, nothing like what I SHOWED her I wanted. I told her I wanted something feminine, hair on the sides I could sweep forward, and even showed her a past photo of when my bangs had been butchered (I told her I feel anxious every time I come to the salon because of awful cuts I've received like it) and she went ahead and cut them too short anyway saying that we would start with that and could always cut them shorter if I wanted. I showed her photos of what I thought was feminine vs young and funky. I did NOT get feminine. (I'm also 50!) I asked that my highlights not be spikey, I showed her a photo with more chunks, but was given spikey - and a copper colour, not the auburn I asked for. I returned a few days later to ask her to shave the sides and back one shorter so there was contrast between the top and sides. I felt the need to talk to her about how upset I was. While talking I told her that I was very disappointed with my cut and that it wasn't what I asked for. She agreed with me that 1) my head was an odd shape now with this cut 2) that it was NOT going to grow out nicely (another thing I told her was important to me and after two weeks it is already sprouting up in odd spots), 3) to keep my cowlick in mind (big hole there now that she agreed was hard to deal with) and 4) I should probably see a barber next time instead of going to a salon because they would be more qualified with a cut like this. With tip (that I absolutely regret paying) I paid over $250 for this. She seemed nervous during the cut, she didn't show me the sides or back with a mirror so I didn't realize how bad it was until I got home, and when you go to pay and the guy at the counter can't muster up a "you look great!" (despite what he thinks), it makes you feel awful. Needless to say, I will NOT be returning. She couldn't even offer the slightest apology.

When you enter I have always been welcomed warmly and the technician during any appointment has been great. I had an especially good waxing appointment with Shannon. It was quite painless compared to a number of other places I have gone and will definitely go back specifically to her again. There is also a little boutique with beauty things to buy when you step in and I think they have some of their own products as well. Beautiful little place!

I absolutely love their online booking system. It's so handy to use and if you ask a question during the process, they respond with an answer very quickly. And of course, they call the day before to confirm the appointment. I saw Elisha for my first appointment and I told her that I was nervous. She was great at keeping the conversation going and keeping me at ease. I honestly can't wait to go back! There's some great looking products in the lobby that I plan on checking out a little closer next time I'm in.
