I flew in for my son's wedding this past weekend and took a taxi from the airport to the Hilton Garden Inn rather than an Uber, which was quoting about $14. Max was friendly and the ride was pleasant. As we approached the hotel, I noticed there was no meter and asked how fares were calculated. He explained they were based on zones. When we arrived, he charged $33 plus $3 for our third passenger. I also tipped him. Once I got settled, I looked up the zone rates on the Manchester airport website because the fare seemed unusually high. From what I found, the trip should have been about $15 plus $3 for Zone 2. Unless I'm misunderstanding the rate structure, I was charged essentially DOUBLE what the fare should have been. Lesson learned: confirm the fare up front and get a receipt. Friendly driver, but I definitely felt taken advantage of.
