The Mob! Black sesame mochi eggettes with soft serve and green tea gelato.
Kristy C.

Definitely made me say wow! I wasn't expecting much however this was probably the best combination of egg waffles, soft serve, gelato and toppings I have ever tried. I ordered the Mob to share with my boyfriend and it surprised him as well. The eggettes were extra special because of the mochi infusion and I could just say genius!! The soft serve was delicious and the gelato was on point. We devoured it at 12PM when they opened. I wish they had one of these in New York. Definitely recommend to try if you're in Hong Kong. Their unique formula can not be found elsewhere.

This is a small hole in the wall but omg the gelato flavors are top notch!! They have such creative idea and I would have to say if I had multiple stomach I would try every one... unfortunately I did not want to throw up everywhere. My husband and I tried the green tea egglette and it was pretty good. Not too sweet but hot and cold (hot from the egg waffle and cold from the green tea ice cream)! My husband got the night wolf and if you like chocolate then that's the one for you. Go grab a bowl of noodle from kaw kee and then come here to clean the greasy taste from your mouth with their gelatos

I was hesitant to try Oddies because we have something similar to this in SoCal (Cauldron Ice- cream), but I'm glad we went! It's located on an unassuming street in the SoHo district in Central (HK island) and was hard to find , but it was worth the trip. The eggette here is so much better - crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside- than any other place I've tried. They also have different filling (e.g. pineapple, red velvet, chocolate chip, apple pie etc) eggettes. The gelato ice-cream was creamy. We went with The Woods ($88HKD for a large) which came with low-fat milk gelato, apple pie eggette, apple raisin campote, salted caramel gelato and cinnamon crumble in a cup. The apple pie eggette was so good! The combo went well together and was not too overly sweet. I also got a pineapple eggette to-go as a snack for the walk back to the MTR (subway).

Oddies is one of those fusion dessert places that combine a Hong Kong delicacy (egg waffles) with the more Western desserts of soft serve, gelato and miscellaneous confectionary. Conceptually, it's nothing too new, but their execution is somewhat notable. While some are immediately turned off by anything that's artisanal/handcrafted, I'd still suggest giving this place a try if you'd like to have a dessert with a complex, yet well complemented palate. While it is easy to achieve this with ingredients of similar flavour profiles, as seen in the standard "Fancy Pants" combination, which was ultimately sweet, rich and creamy ingredients with other sweet, rich and creamy ingredients, good, but not remarkable, I was very impressed by what my friend ordered- the night wolf: a unique mix of different gelatos and toppings/garnishes, that supposedly changes every day, and is ultimately up to the artisan to decide the ingredients. That particular day, the night wolf consisted of more chocolatey ingredients, paired with bold exotic fruit flavours such as passion fruit, and if I'm not mistaken guava. The mix of sweet, bitter (dark chocolate), and slight acidity in addition to the bold fragrances ultimately elevated the night wolf that night to the next level. When it comes to being at Oddies, you can be more conservative with your choices and you probably won't be disappointed, but I'd strongly recommend being more adventurous and trying their more unusual mixes. While your spirits may be dampened in the event that it's (really) not to your tastes (I.e. after 5 mouthfuls you're still flinching), but while those combos may make you wince at first, just give it a try, there's a chance that you'll end up getting something that blows your mind.

night wolf (gelato of the day: Hokkaido milk)

With Oddies located in the trendy district of Central, my friends and I expected nothing less of a hipster take on the classic Hong Kong egg waffle. Oddies successfully transforms the nostalgic street snack into a delectable dessert. You're able to choose from a selection of egg waffle flavors, gelato flavors, and toppings - or you can simply order from some fail-proof combinations that they offer. We went with a pre-made menu item and ordered a Night Wolf egg waffle, which is a special that changes every day. When we went, the Night Wolf was a classic combination of an egg waffle and a mix of Hokkaido milk and chocolate gelato. While the order appeared small at first, it ended up being the perfect size for our group of three, which had us satisfied with the dessert but not too stuffed. The egg waffle was perfectly light and fluffy, and the warmth from the egg waffle was a nice juxtaposition to the gelato's iciness. The pairing of the egg waffle's custardy yet crisp texture and the creamy consistency of the gelato was also fantastic. Having had a similar dessert in SoCal at Cauldron Ice Cream, I definitely think that Oddies wins at the game of egg waffles and ice cream. This is a great dessert place to try out in Central and only proves the robustness of Hong Kong's amazing reputation in the food scene.

Egg waffles, or as the HK locals call it, "gaidaan jai" are an iconic Hong Kong street food, dating back to the 1950s. Eggettes are a local favorite in HK and recently, a lot of creative eateries have been transforming them into different flavors. I visited this place on the last day of my trip, and boy was it worth it. Obviously what had intrigued me was Oddies concept of fusing the amazing egg waffles with gelato ice cream. The place was relatively small, and the menu is somewhat confusing, overwhelming and seemingly overly complicated, but its all gravy once you get your goodies. I tried the "Night Wolf" here, which is described as "Italian low fat soft gelato twisted with 66% dark chocolate served with buttery crumbles, caramelized banana ice cream, passion fruit panna cotta, brownie and chocolate chips eggettes and crunchy flakes." Upon reading the description, it sounded like way too much was going on and the abundance of flavors would ultimately clash, but it's actually pretty damn tasty. I love the combination of the eggettes and chocolate ice cream together with the crunchiness of crumbles and flakes. Although eggette is a very common food in Hong Kong, not many eateries make really good eggettes and I have to say that this eggette from Oddies was just simply the best I had ever tried in my life. Highly recommend this place.

Good stop while waiting in line for Kau Kee! Really cute, hipster dessert place that offers eggettes (egg puffs), gelato, and desserts with both. The flavors are unique and look really tasty. We had the Mob (65HKD- small), which was milk gelato, black sesame mochi eggettes, apple yuzu jelly, matcha ice cream, and wafers. Sounds really promising, but execution was a little disappointing. The gelato, ice cream, and yuzu jelly combination was good, but the eggettes were a little bit burnt and weren't sweet. Kind of lackluster for the expensive price.

Love love LOOOOVE this place! I'm a sucker for unique ice cream flavored, and packaging it with delicious eggettes is double win in my book! My boyfriend and I came here twice during our trip and although it is on the pricier end compared to the many other food places out in Hong Kong, I think it's definitely worth an experience. It a small ice cream shop on the same street as the popular Kau Kee Restaurant, making it a great dessert spot after dinner. They have a variety of ice cream flavors to choose from, but if it's your first time here you need to try their eggette parfaits! We tried the Mob (black sesame mochi eggette with green tea and milk ice cream swirl with yuzu jelly) and the Night Wolf (chocolate chip eggettes with coffee and chocolate gelato with passion fruit panna cotta. I was afraid it would be too decadent, especially the Night Wolf, but that wasn't the case at all. Both of them were amazing and had a perfect balance in flavors. I'd recommend sharing one with a friend or else you'll find yourself overly stuffed! All in all, a very solid ice cream place for an dessert lover, and its location is surrounded by a lot of cute boutique stores and other food places. Definitely a recommendation for anyone in Hong Kong :)

This location opens on Mondays unlike the other location in Wan Chai. The Gough Street location is new and only sells a limited menu. It was my last day in HK and I was excited to find out this location opens on Monday but quickly disappointed when I found out they don't serve "the mob" and only serves 1 sundae combination - the night wolf. Open on Mondays unlike the other location in Wan Chai!! The lady behind the counter was super friendly and recommended me their eggette special- the Chinese sausage eggette. I was skeptical at first but it was the B-O-M-B-diggity. It had the perfect balance of sweet and savory. FYI they take credit cards

After living in the bay area for some times, I came to have this inexplicable love for egg puff. So, other than egg tarts, egg puffs were the must-have food before leaving HK. Surprisingly, egg puffs were not as common! Until we found this little gem. Egg puffs (I don't know why we call it that in the bay) or eggettes (there are way to many e's and t's in this) with ice cream, pudding, syrup, and other magical ingredients were...hmm... devilishly delicious. We ordered the Green tea one. The egg puffs had mochi in them!!! Every bite was a surprise because of the complexity in this dessert cup. Definitely worth trying! Proper giolato in Asia so far, too.

Came for the egg waffle sundaes but also ended up with a double of their very intriguing and very amazing gelato. We went with the mob which has a matcha theme because my sister and I love matcha and we were not disappointed. The egg waffle was crispy but gooey on the inside and the soft serve was cool and creamy. I actually can't remember our gelato flavors but one had cheese and the other was pistachio with cherries and ohhhmaaagawwwwd we were in heaven. Super friendly service and a really cute shop although a bit off the beaten path.

Was convinced to check this place out after seeing photos on Instagram and everything definitely tasted as good as it looked. We had the Mob (size small; $65 HKD) and it was absolutely delicious. I expected everything to be excessively sweet for me, but the sweetness level was perfect. The sesame mochi egg waffles were definitely the star though; they were warm and fragrant, and had a crunchy exterior but soft, chewy interior. The matcha ice cream was also really smooth and creamy. They have paid WiFi too - login info is taped on a wall next to the seats. Service is also fast and friendly. Overall, a visit here is absolutely essential if you're in HK.

egg waffle parfait of sorts!
Andie B.

I stopped by Oddies while in the neighborhood on my Hong Kong trip and oh my gosh it did not disappoint! The parfait/sundae I got was an apple cinnamon egg waffle with the milk gelato, salted caramel gelato, some cookie crumb chunks and an apple sauce of sorts! It was a fantastic treat to help beat the summer humidity of the city. The service was quick and efficient, and the people working were so friendly! I definitely recommend it for a unique twist on egg waffles or if you're craving some fantastic gelato!

There is a reason why this place is so popular: it feels very home-y with the booths along the sides of the shop and round family-style tables. We arrived around 9:20pm on a Monday night, with little to no line. Just a short 5 minute wait for tables to clear up. In that time, we noticed dessert bowls served in pretty yellow Chinese-style porcelain bowls. Once seated, a Chinese menu peered up at us from under a glass-topped table. I quickly asked for an English menu and a lady kindly brought it to us. I was originally eyeing the walnut cream 合桃露 or the almond cream 杏仁露, but considering my slight cough, decided against anything nutty and heavy, and went for the red bean sweet soup with tangerine peel 陳皮紅豆沙, and boy am I GLAD that I did. It wasn't too dense or too watery. The red bean was blended quite smoothly into the soup with small chunks here and there. There were no visibly large red beans as you would see in other places. While I previously preferred the large chunky "hong dao sa", I think my tastes buds have changed, and have found my go-to place at Yuen Kee. In addition, what I liked best was the use of the tangerine peel - which gave the red bean soup a new uplifting citrus-y smell and taste, and provided a pleasant and natural sweetness to the soup (compared with overly and unnaturally sweet ones elsewhere). My friend's sesame soup 芝麻湖 was just as delicious! Like my red bean soup, it was perfectly blended, and not too grainy, nor too thick or goopy of a sesame mixture. I only wish ALL the desserts came in the yellow bowls - ours came in plain white bowls. You can be sure I'll be back once my health is fully restored.

I believe one of the ways to try durian without having to be afraid of it is by tasting it through the various dessert dishes here at this cute little place. Having no idea that this place existed, I was pretty thankful to my new local friend who suggested this place. It's located in a small little street, similar to an alley way, and by the time you get near it, you'll definitely see a long line of people waiting to get in. The wait itself isn't that bad. Most people just come here to eat dessert and leave right after. Once seated, my friends and I spent some time browsing through the extensive dessert menu and settled on trying the durian with crystal seeds (one of the many popular dishes) and watermelon and lychee with crystal seeds. In summary, the watermelon and lychee were ok. The watermelon ended up being too watery for my taste and the lychee wasn't too memorable. Both tasted decent but definitely not a must try. For the durian, this was surprisingly good! I am normally not a durian fan (the stench gets to me sometime) but here, you couldn't really smell too much of the durian in the dish. The taste of durian was also soften quite a bit, making this dish a bit more doable for those who do not like durian. I found this dish to be pretty tasty and not too sweet and it was unique to eat it with the crystal seeds. Overall, this is a great spot to stop by for desserts.
