Hong Kong is so, so sadly lacking in ice cream shops. Like true, old timey, classic ice cream with giant scoops stacked a mile high. There are numerous soft serve and gelato offerings, but no true ice cream shops. While the textures is a bit more melty/gooey, this is the closest we will get to true, old timey ice cream. I was on the hunt to find the best ice cream in Hong Kong and this place was by far my favorite! I ordered the S'mores and Grasshopper (Mint Chocolate Chip with Oreo Chunks) Ice Cream with the Fruity Pebbles Cone and it was delicious! I was actually able to devour this in minutes and luckily the ice cream wasn't too sweet or sugary. The scoops of ice cream here is huge and can easily be shared! The girl working the counter was also really nice and let me sample 5 different flavors before deciding what I wanted to order. The decor here is also really fun and colorful. This place does a great job creating an environment and dessert that is Instagram worthy. Walls full of colorful posters will make your ice cream cone look like a million dollars. I paid $83.00HKD/$10.63USD for 2 Scoops of Ice cream on a fruity Fruity loops cone. The flavors here are very unique with verrrry unique names. With almost every flavor you have to ask what is in this because there is no correlation to the name of the flavor. The ice cream flavor I got was pretty good, except I don't remember the name. Oops. Really good, and a tiny North American vibe on a busy Hong Kong street. The ice cream is good, the cones are photographable, and like many of its kind elsewhere, you'll need to go through all the bloggers and Insta-types taking their photos on your way in :) The ice cream is creative, and very nice... Not quite as sweet as some American types. But the cones are more for show. A bit stale (or at least very chewy to eat) and can be a bit of a mess. Cute shop; great treats. read more

Amazing ice cream! The stuff is creamy and not too sweet. The flavours are there without being overly in your face. The "signature cone" are cute and tasty. The scoops are generous and satisfying. I went there during "winter" (20 degrees outside, which is technically summer in Canada) and the place was empty. I appreciate the fact that there is a detail plasticized menu near the cashier so you can actually read what a "purple cow" is. The only thing is. I can't see myself eating something this fancy and bulky during a heat wave. read more

"Can you seriously finish that thing" People gotta stop underestimating my ability to stuff my face when it comes to food. Especially dessert. Got the giant 3 scoop monster from this place and LOVED IT. I strongly recommend the peanut butter cookie dough flavor, that one's my fave. The only issue i have is the scoops kinda fall over. They dont pack 'em down hard enough and ive had to catch my top scoop a couple times as it toppled. Luckily it didnt hit the ground, otherwise I'd probably be alot more upset. The cones are marvelous too! They dont have that plastic frozen type taste some ice cream cones have, so im a fan! :) read more

The place is very well decorated and inviting. We were greeted with a full display of various types of cones. From fruit loops and marshmallow to rice crispiest to dark chocolate or white chocolate. Many foreigners seem to like to hang out here. Service is very efficient as you would expect from any Hong Kongnian. You basically walk up and tell them your choice of ice cream and your choice of cone. Smoreos ice cream and dark chocolate waffle cone was delicious and satisfying. The space cake ice cream was pretty delicious. A combination of yellow cake and red velvet cake. I really enjoyed the scoop. Topped it off with a Rice Krispie cone which is my favorite childhood treat. The Rice Krispies were nice and soft and gooey and chewy - the way it should be! With a line out the door on any given heatwave of a day, I knew I had to give this ice cream parlour a go. To be honest, I thought we'd be safe at 10pm - boy was I wrong as we stood on the street sweating and enviously looking at the ginormous cones through the window. The line moves fast, and soon we were panicking about our order; what cone? what scoop? one scoop? two scoops? THE CHOICES!?! Where ice cream meets music. It's conveniently located right below the famous HK escalators. I ordered the mango ice cream with the fruit loops waffle cone and the boo thang got Oreo cookies and cream. The mango was soooo smooth and creamy. If you prefer fruity flavors, I highly recommend that flavor. I thought the Oreos was okay, but I'm not a huge fan of cookies and cream. The cone was good, but it's more aesthetically appealing than it was tasty. Overall, I liked this place. This is one of my favorite ice cream shops in Hong Kong. The quality of the ice cream is great and I like the location. It's nice to grab a cone and sit on the steps outside under the travelator. My criticisms would be that you only get a rather small single scoop for a premium price, and they don't seem very sample friendly, but overall the place is great. Opened mid October...Emack & Bolio's is a chain of ice cream stores based in Boston, Massachusetts. The chain was founded by Robert Rook, a lawyer who has worked closely with the homeless, Vietnam war protesters, civil and gay rights advocates, and numerous rock bands such as Aerosmith and U 2. Emack and Bolio's was founded in 1975, three years before Ben and Jerry's used the concept of a hippie ice cream store. There are now a few stores in other places, including New York, Florida, and Bangkok, Thailand (since 2014). And now they´re in Hongkong. I've heard that their ice creams and smoothies are cute, expensive, delicious, rich and creamy. Obviously the fancy cones have all your favourite childhood cereal flavours like rice crispy, fruit loops, cinnammon toast crunch etc. Today my friend got a chocolate coconut cone with a scoop of raspberry sorbet and loved the ice cream but thought the cone tasted like paper. I got a scoop of Mud pie (coffee ice cream with oreos and chocolate chips) in a yummy Marsh "mellow" cone with fruit loops and an extra scoop of Cosmic Crunch (Vanilla Ice Cream, Caramel Swirl, Chocolate Chips, Walnuts, Cookies). The ice-cream was quite good and the scone with the sweet and sticky cereal and marshmallow "decoration" was too good to be true. An ice-cream with on scoop costs HK$ 43, each additional scoop or a special cone like the Marsh "Mellow" variations (marshmallow and cereal type) costs HK$ 20. They don`t have the colour changing spoons as they do in the US but they offer delicious chocolate, oreo, peanutbutter, etc. candy. The pretzels look too tempting. The place is packed and the atmosphere is quite cool and if they would consider to offer soy milk as an option for their coffees and also refrained from using take away cups and wrapping/bags for the costumers who don't takeaway, it would feel much more like a sincere and loving hippie ice-cream parlour than a pricey yuppie trap that likes playing Don McLean tunes...And why does the staff never smile? read more

Emack & Bolio's is a ice cream chain based in Boston, MA. My friend is from Boston so she tells me that I have to try this place. When I first saw pictures of the ice cream cones I literally died--ice cream cones with fruity pebbles/pretzels/oreos/rice krispies?! Dream come true! The cone was cute and definitely insta-worthy and it tasted what I expected it to, but the ice cream, however, didn't impress me nearly as much. Emack & Bolio's do have a wide selection of unique and traditional flavors--ice creams, sorbets, to frozen yogurt--there's a flavor for everybody. Feel free to ask for samples before you make the big decision! I got the fruity pebble cone with cookie dough ice cream and my friend got the mango sorbet in a cup. I just feel like the quality of the ice cream is not up to par...it's not milky and it's not rich. Overall, I do recommend checking this place out at least once for the picture XD read more

Great ice cream shop. Being in Hong Kong, the last thing I thought I'd eat was ice cream since that's something I can find very easily here in the US. However, it was soooo hot and I had heard great things about Emack & Bolio's so we stopped in. I got a scoop of "Heaven" (vanilla with white chocolate chips and marshmallow swirl) in a toasted marshmallow cone. The ice cream was really good. I didn't really taste the marshmallow swirl at all but other than that it was a really good flavor. The cone is what made the ice cream. I watched the girl torch the actual marshmallow cone to toast it. The combo of the cone and ice cream was so good. I will say, it was pretty pricey. For a single scoop on the marshmallow cone it was about $63 HKD. I could probably get a bowl of noodles for that price. But we were in central Hong Kong in a touristy area and the ice cream was good... so I guess it was worth it! Definitely worth a stop but ice cream is ice cream so I wouldn't say it is a necessary stop for a true Hong Kong experience. Only if you have the time and a hankering for some ice cream. read more
