When I order a roll, the taste of Nori can easily take away from the experience for me since I hate the seaweed/fish flavor. However, I need not worry as I can just get my roll with soy paper instead. It has also been suggested that I can order my roll rolled in cucumber also, but I have yet to ask for it. My favorite dish is probably the Vegi-tempura. It's simple, but delicious. The sauce it comes with is great, also. They offer a great selection of drinks,but so far I have only had the chance to enjoy the great taste of the Organic Cola and Organic Sparklers. The entire staff is friendly and helpful. Since I was pretty new to sushi when I started going to Oco time (I have also experienced many other places since) I was very nervous about the whole experience and the servers were quite understanding. My girlfriend and I love this place. We have been eating here since we moved up to Ukiah earlier this year. We also go here when we get visitors from out of town. The restaurant service is attentive but be warned this place needs a reservation most of the time. They are usually a full house. The dishes are delicious. I have had several sushi dishes. B-Boy Jerro, and Mendo Rolls, are my favorite. The ingredients are fresh and healthy and the food digests well. The employees here seem happy and energetic while working the fast pace environment. HANDS DOWN the best food in Ukiah. The is the first place I ever ate sushi, and probably the best. Everything is really fresh and yummy. The staff is very friendly and professional and genuine. The food comes out fast, and it's all for a good price. It's also clean. If you ever get a chance to come here, be sure to reserve a table in the back, especially during winter time. The floor is heated and you can take your shoes off. The room in back is really nice and has a sort of open roof tea-garden feel to it. I don't want to barrage you with "I've had better" sentences, but this place is really not bad. In Ukiah of all places, this sushi shop can contend with some of the best in California. They have a comforting menu with your usual rolls, noodle plates, and then they have their "oco". I didn't know what that was until my girlfriend pointed it out that they have okonomiyaki, the Japanese pancake made famous from Osaka. Sadly, I'm not a fan of that so we just had the rolls and some sake. We had three rolls: the spider, rainbow, and California. Upon the first few bites, we realized something is different. The fish was fresh. Don't blame the fish! What i noticed was that the rice was too mushy, taking away from the structure of the sushi. Nobody wants to eat raw fish with gruel. Ok, that was a hyperbole, but it was just more mushier than usual. A second thing that I noticed was that the vegetables, which were diced, came up a bit tasteless. Maybe it was my mind messing with me, but there were just some things off. I tried the cane sake, and it was really hard to shoot. I thought "cane", so it should be sugary and sweet right? Boy was I naive. It was super strong and super bitter. I was reminded that sugar makes alcohol stronger. Solid local spot. Friendly and fast service in a cozy mom and pop atmosphere. They have a huge menu! There is something for everyone. I tried their sushi rolls, which were pretty good...although nothing special. I would say their soft shell crab or shrimp tempera rolls were the best. They also have this interesting twist to okonomiyaki (which they dubbed OCO), which is more of a fusion between yakisoba and okonomiyaki...where they have a layer of yakisoba noodles, a layer of traditional okonomiyaki batter with mochi, then another layer of shredded cabbage, topped with eggs and sweet teriyaki sauce...plus your choice of meat/veggie etc. The portion was absolutely huge, it is def a party size. Overall, it was interesting and surprisingly good, although I still prefer the traditional okonomiyaki. Don't forget to save room for some green tea ice cream and mochi ice cream!! read more

Visiting Ukiah, I've been here twice and returned the second time because I had such good memories of this place. Definitely worth checking out. They could easily be competing in the food scene in SF with their quirky menu. Each time, I'm tempted to try their Oko Nomiyaki, but because I get seated at the sushi bar due to how busy they are, I end up with their sushi, which is also good. They make some great rolls, have fresh fish(I keep eating there on Saturdays so I can't speak for the rest of the week but I'm guessing it's fresh all week!). Sitting at the sushi bar lets me see all the food going out to the people and they definitely make some attractive looking plates. My recommendations are to be adventurous. I have been driving past this place for a good 9 years without the fondest idea that it exists. Thank god for Yelp... I wouldn't have ever known about this place or came in if it wasn't for the reviews. It is very tasty sushi, better than some of the places in Humbolst/Mendo area. They offer some interesting items on their menu but we stuck with what we know. Shrimp Tempura Roll, Fire Roll and a classic Philadelphia Roll (all very good) and the Veggie Udon noodles were impressive as well. The sashimi plate and especially the salmon was fresh and firm! But in sleepy Ukiah this place and it's well-presented dishes are a stand out. I am not a sushi or fish guy but the great reviews on Yelp convinced me to try this place. I even ate some sushi and it was outstanding. I ate a relatively safe tempura-style dish and it was done with as much flair as my wife and neice's dishes - artful and flavorful. We just moved to Ukiah and are so happy we found this place right off the bat. Didn't expect this small town to have good sushi- but this place is better than good! The fire dragon roll was unbelievable and we really enjoyed the oco too. The back garden patio has a really nice ambiance. My only complaint is that it can sometimes be hard to get a table (especially Friday and Saturday nights) because it is a relatively small place and very popular. We actually had a reservation once for 7:30 and didn't get seated till 7:55! It only happened that once so we let it slide- usually the service is pretty decent. Don't give us the option between the sushi bar or a table, make us wait 15 minutes when we say we want a table, and then say there are reservations for all the tables actually and that the only option is the sushi bar. Despite the fact that this place is tiny (that's why so many people reviewed not being able to get a table) my boyfriend and I took the seats at the sushi bar even though we wouldn't be ordering any fish. Finally I found the vegetarian selection and we choose three rolls, the agedashi tofu and the least expensive saki all to share. The agedashi tofu was ok, considering this is a favorite dish of mine I've definitely had better. It was the broth that lacked somewhat in the salty, mushroomy flavors. The rolls were really good! My boyfriend chose one with peanuts on top that was his favorite, I prefered the spicy something roll that I had chosen. It was a nice dinner, kind of expensive for vegetarian rolls but tasty. Absolutely love this place! I always come here when I'm craving sushi. I usually get the kamekos roll, tempura bbq tofu, and the NorCal roll with shiitake mushrooms and it's always so delicious. The customer service is friendly as well. Also the mochi from it's time is wonderful. Although, I called to place my order in advance and they said it'd be around 30 minutes, which that was fine, but I arrived there late and had to wait another 15 for my food.
