PLEAVE BELIEVE THE REVIEWS even though some of them are older. I gave Jonathan and his dad, Jose, every opportunity to do a good job but I learned the hard way. I wanted to believe that they will fix the issue that I hired them to fix but all I got was more headaches and I'm out $1510 with even more issues. TLDR: Do not hire this company. Their prices may be reasonable but their work is subpar and competence questionable. They will cut corners, take your money, and smile in your face knowing they don't plan on doing the work you hired them to do. I'm embarrassed to say that I was duped by Jonathan and Jose. I recently hired someone else to fix their subpar work. I will be out even more money but lesson learned. Longer version- I hired Jonathan and Jose to add 2 additional zones to my irrigation system to help with the low water pressure that resulted in too many of my plants being on the same zone. In connection with adding the new zones, they would need to install a small box to house the valves for the new zones as well as a water shutoff valve which would also be housed in a box. I also asked them to check whether one of my existing valves was leaking because there was a lot of water in the valve box. They started the work as scheduled and it took them about 2 days to "complete it." First issue - after they installed the new valves, the boxes for the valves and the new water shutoff valve were sinking. They were not sturdy and water had pooled inside them. After I reached back out to them telling them about these issues, they returned to supposedly fix them. I didn't have time to check their work because I was working at the time they completed the work so I took them at their word. Second issue - there was still water in the existing valve box and I told them to fix the leaking valve and otherwise remove the water. They claimed that this issue was not the result of their work but they would fix it anyway. Third issue - I discovered that one of the new zones (which they installed) was watering the same plants as another existing zone when it was turned on. After I complained to them, Jonathan pleaded with me to let them make it right. They eventually fixed the issue (different zones watering the same plant). Fourth issue - after they completed the installation of the 2 new zones, the zone that watered 2 of my raised garden beds stopped working even when it was turned on. They again said that they didn't do anything to this zone and didn't understand why it wasn't working. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and asked them to fix it anyway. I agreed to pay them for that work. A few days later I asked them to return to fix a leaking 1/2 inch tube they failed to patch and a 1/2 inch tube that they failed to close for the raised garden bed. They came back and took care of it. After they "completed the job," I promptly paid them. As of today, the zone for my raised garden still doesn't work when it is turned on. There is a lot of water in the existing and new valve boxes which they installed as well as the new water shutoff valve they also installed. Also, the new valve boxes they install are still not sturdy and easily sink down into the earth when a little pressure is applied to them. I've since learned that it is common/best practice to use brick or rocks as the foundation for the valve boxes to prevent them from sinking. And to top it off, I just awoke to my neighbor ringing my doorbell to tell me that water is shooting over the fence from my yard to theirs. It appears they used orange string instead of a proper end cap for one of the lines. The string, of course, could not keep the open line closed. I've repeated called/texted Jonathan to fix these issues. He's stopped returning my calls or texts. read more

I was referred to them by my best friend. The owner, Jose, at first, seemed quite responsive and reassuring. once the job was done, and they got their payment, he assured me that he was just a text message or a phone call away in case I have a problem. However, a month later I saw the grass coming off and it began to roll outward. It is now almost 2 months that I have called him several times, sent him pictures of the grass, requesting if he can come and fix it. But no response. My current gardener told me that they not only used a low quality grass, but they also didn't plant it into the soil. They just lay the grass on top of the soil. Please please don't use them anymore. Jose did a job for me and I was fairly happy. So, I referred my girlfriend to him for a large landscaping job and of course, he was happy to take her money. I used him one more time and something had changed over the last year. He was short, did the job but told me he would have to come back to finish it but insisted on full payment. I paid him but he assured me he was coming back the next day with samples of the rock I had ordered. The next day, he would not answer his phone or text messages. That was in the middle of January! PLEASE READ!! NEGATIVE REVIEWS VERY REPRESENTATIVE OF JOSE!! As someone who is also in the service industry, I understand how important it is to deliver to the customer/client. After multiple attempts to reach Jose, I never received a response. He basically took my money and left. I specifically requested "clear redwood". I left it to him to decide to choose the redwood. However, the redwood he used was scrap wood. The wood he's referring to being costly is Brazilian Ipe. As many people know, there's a large disparity in cost from Ipe and Clear Redwood. Jose mentioned he didn't have experience with Brazilian wood. As a result, I decided to go with clear redwood. His execution on the project shows his work as rushed and careless abandonment of the job. Wanting to use Jose after he took payment was commented minutes after "completing" the job. However, that decision was immediately retracted when I arrived back to see the wood warped and panels fallen off. Who pays for a driveway gate to only last less than 1 month??? Rather than defending himself, Jose should have spent the energy and time to resolve the issue. Jose, if you cared that much about your reputation, why did you not respond or contact me about resolving these issues? I've worked on renovation projects throughout the Bay Area and the product I deliver proves high quality and presentable. Having an eye for home values, I don't agree with paying for a job that devalues a home, such as the work Jose did. I would be more than happy to provide additional pictures to anyone who needs a reference of his work. I can vindicate Jose's neglected job and where he also vandalized my tree and other part of the fence. I still find his work appalling and extremely disappointing. I showed him pictures that depicted what I wanted. What he delivered was 1/2 the vision I wanted. I excused it in the beginning due to my rushed schedule. I left a day after he "finished." He assured that if anything was wrong, he'd repair it. 3 weeks after, when I arrived back from my trip, I came home to planks from the gate fallen off. The horrible craftsmanship was evident and I notified him immediately. He came by once to do minor touch-ups but the wood was warped and the gate left a lot to desire. Needless to say, he showed little effort to rectify the situation. Jose is an example of a vendor who will not accept responsibility for his lack of work. Jose blames the customer for his poor workmanship. He could have simply repaired the job, but instead, ignored and chose to not resolve this issue. I can caution the reader more as his character can be clearly defined in his statement with emphasis on defending his reputation and then attacking his former client versus finding a solution to the problem. Disappointing...I hired Ocho's landscaping for two jobs. The first one went fine. Jose offered a delivered everything we asked for within the time expected. It was a pretty simple job. However the next job involved tearing down retaining walls and building new ones and it was a really a bad experience. It took much longer than expected, tools and garbage were left on our property for days along with debris and dirt. Jose didn't arrive the times he communicated and didn't return calls or answer text messages. The job finished late and would have been later, if I didn't continue to push for completion. The quality of work is poor. I had two other contractors at my house making negative comments about the work I had done. They broke an irrigation pipe and attempted to repair it but actually did not. They left the water cut off to my entire irrigation system (so my front yard lawn had no water). When I turned it on, water started pouring out of the pipe they said they repaired - it wasn't even checked after the repair! They used Douglas wood to repair a retaining wall, which other contractors are telling me will rot in a matter of 2-3 years....I'm just so bummed. I feel deceived :-(. read more

He came to my house several times before the job began and gave my wife and I honest opinions and great design options. He offered the best rates. During the days of the job, he and his crew arrived on time and continously worked. His dad also helped daily and DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE DAD, he works hard and he knows his stuff. Why a 4 * rating....small things could have been discussed prior to start to cover the expenses. The tarp was laid by a young man with some careless mistakes. Things with Jose and team were good up until installation was over. The sprinklers weren't done correctly and my entire lawn and most of the plants are now dead. Jose hasn't responded to my attempts to have him fix the issues for over two months so I guess we're on to small claims. In addition, they didn't lay down the plastic under all of the bark areas so weeds are an issue. I had paid him for weekly maintenance but apparently they didn't notice sprinkles and drip system were not working? Well came home and looked like hardly anything was done so I called and he said he does not have to be there all day to work. Basically he can come when he wants. I am so thankful for Jose. I was looking to replace about 80SF of artificial turf with real sod. No one would call me back. I guess the job was too small. Jose answered my call right away and offered to stop by that evening to look at the scope of work. Together we came up with a great plan. He suggested we expand the area and add irrigation. I have always wanted a hose bib in the area too. Jose said it was no problem. His crew started 3 days later and worked around my work calendar. Including working 1/2 days and coming late. The entire experience with Ochos was a bad (and very expensive) one. I guess the worst, is that if there are any problems with the job, you will never see them or hear from them again. As a small business owner, I hate giving bad reviews, and made Ochos aware of the problems, and he simply ignored my conciliatory email, in which I offered to pay him to simply come back and fix the issues which his unfortunately sloppy, inexpert and incomplete work have caused. I don't pester, but I sincerely did not want to write a bad review. Most distressingly, Jose agreed to do weed abatement, and assured me that he had, and he did not. I left town for a few days, we had a light rainfall, and I came home to literally hundreds (thousands?) of 6" grass sprouts and other small weeds, that had emerged through my mulch (my landscape has no grass) all over the yard. I am paying to have a different company come in and fix the enormous weed problem. But as to the job itself, they ignore day and time commitments, coming whenever they want, leaving whenever they want, disappearing for days (or a week?) at a stretch, leaving various jobs partially done or poorly done and others un-started. Also, while some of the workers seemed nice, and worked hard, they didn't seem knowledgeable about how to plant plants or how to properly plant and stake and tie new trees. I had to pay an experienced gardener (not an arborist, just a gardener) to re-do all the tree work. Ochos doesn't seem to have much knowledge about gardening materials. I chose shredded mulch, which my neighbors landscapers (wisely) advised against. My fault, but I'm not a landscaper, Ochos claims that they are. Ochos also claimed to know our community rules, and did not. Much of his work had to be removed (at my own considerable expense). I'm also afraid I'm going to have issues with the irrigation system, as it began to leak almost immediately (as one of the non-recommended reviews stated, in fact my entire experience with Ochos was almost identical to that reviewer's), and I know that if I do have further problems, I will have to hire a plumber to fix them at my own expense (I foolishly paid Jose before the job was entirely finished, and never saw him again. As I mentioned, he doesn't return calls or texts). While some of his crew are very nice and hard working, there seems to be a complete lack of management and organization, and some of his other workers either weren't informed about or just ignored the landscape plan entirely, threw the wrong plants into the wrong holes, threw materials where they shouldn't have gone and I have now ended up paying multiple people to come and right the mistakes and to clean it all up. read more

Apparently Jose has more money than he knows what to do with since he doesn't seem willing or able to finish jobs. My husband and I hired him last summer to fix some sprinklers/install drip line in both our front and backyard. Everything went well with the initial conversation. The problem was when is the actual work started. Jose was nowhere to be found on the day of the job, instead an older man who did not speak a word of English was digging up our front yard (Jose had dropped him off and said hello). About two hours into it I noticed I hadn't seen him move around in a while and went to go check on him. He was nowhere to be found. Instead, all of his tools were laying on the ground, and our yard was all dug up. At first it was funny since my husband and I didn't even see him leave, we were worried about shutting the gate thinking he would come back any minute. Hours went by before we realized he was gone for good. I texted Jose, no response. He contacted me about three DAYS later saying he would be out that day to finish the job but I told him he was no longer welcome and to come pick up his tools. We ended up using Brad's Sprinkler Service to clean up Jose's mess and do the original job, which was about $500. I hired Ochos/Jose to lay new sod and sprinklers in my front and back yard. He also planted some palms with a drip system and some lighting. First I caught him trying to use the old pvc pipes to service water to the new sprinkler heads. Then, when he laid the sod, he did not property compact the soils to make the yard level. My backyard now looks like it has little hills and valleys. My lights are so dim that you can hardly see them on at night. It has been four months since he completed the work and two nights ago the pipe leaked where he tied it into the valves for the sprinklers in the front yard. He tied the pvc pipe to the valves from the main water line from the street so we had to shut off all the water to our house to avoid another flood. I called him and he offered to come over last night at 6pm to repair the leak. He texted me at 7pm and said he was stuck in traffic and would come over this morning. It is now 1pm and he has not returned my calls or texts. So now I am going to hire a plumber to fix the leak caused from his faulty workmanship. After Jose completed the job I hired him to do the weekly landscaping. He chose Saturdays to come over to perform the landscaping which I didn't really like because if I had friends or family over I never knew what time he would show up. After about 6 weeks on the job he just decided to not show up one Saturday and I was depending on him because I was having a get together with friends. He didn't even call me to let me know he wouldn't make it over. He would not return my calls or my texts. Most of the issue I note above did not manifest themselves at the beginning. I made a huge mistake by referring Jose to my best friend who wanted turf, new plants and sprinklers in his backyard. What a mistake. The turf looks awful because of the way he cut the patterns. The drip system is not providing water to half of the plants and they have died. The sprinklers leaked and my friend had to pay a plumber to fix then because Jose pulled the same - I'll be there to help and then he does not show up routine. All I can say is about Jose this: 1) His slogan should be "Cheap Quality at a cheap price". 2) He takes short cuts when he can get away with it. 3) His workmanship is poor. 4) His Customer Service is the worst I have ever experienced. 5) He does not put any pride in his workmanship. 6) He is completely undependable. I hope that anyone reading this will decide NOT to hire Jose. I could go on and on, but hopefully you get the point. Good luck! read more

Jose of Ochos Landscaping did a good job for me in placing low maintenance landscaping in the front yard of our home in Brentwood. Initial time estimate was for about a week but it took around 9 days. He incorporated some plantings I had made into the overall effort, stripped the yard, laid barrier plastic, added additional plants, reworked the drip lines needed, and placed the ground cover I selected (we both went up B'wood Blvd to the landscape material supplier so I could check out the rock and wood chip options). The finished work looks good. We (he and I) are watching a couple of the plants to see if they should die and need replacing, which he said he would do if needed for no extra charge.
