Upside down, you're turning us, round and round!
This could have been a big credit in the "good will" account-and a positive review to boot. Instead, it's a bust! Shops like this one are all too common in Ocean City to be giving this store any of your business. They really suck!
My Queen Bee and me travel a lot and usually visit O.C. at least once a year. Last year I purchased a Ocean Drive [TM] hoodie with decal for my babe. She wore it once, never washed it, and the next time she picked it up to put it on, about a week later, she noticed the decal was flaking off. After I got my statement about a month or so later and figured out were we had bought it, I called the store and spoke to a manager, I presume, and told them what happened; and that we were out of state and probably wouldn't be back to Ocean City for quite some time-maybe even up to a year. They said no worries, just bring it with us next time we were in town along with the receipt and they'd be more than happy to fix it. So instead of filing a claim with my credit card company m, I left it at that and took them at their word. So, fast forward one year later, and we are back in Ocean City. We find the store, and with a copy of the receipt on my iPhone in hand, we ask for a manager. Only, the manager wasn't on duty, but the clerk was pretty cool, he calls the manager and tells him our story. He said, no worries, the manager says he'll be back later and he'll fix it, so we hang out at the beach another four hours to meet up with the manager when he comes in. He was half an hour later than he said, but I'm okay because I'm thinking he's going to fix it like he said. At first he seemed cool; says, no worries, I'll put a new one on over the defective one-he said whoever put it on the first time didn't do it right. So he pulls out a new identical decal to the original and irons it on over the top of the original one that was defective, but when he hands it to me Babe she instantly noticed the decal was ironed on upside down! So she hands it back to him. At this point I think he was getting po'ed, maybe because he felt embarrassed or something, idk, but he threw on another decal over top the previous two decals, and pressed it with the iron. However, when he handed it to Babe she immediately noticed that now the decal is crooked-or over lapped in a way that reveals the previous two decals underneath. So of course she's like, I can't wear this-it's noticeably crooked. Then he said, that they don't carry that brand hoodie anymore. So Babe says she wants something else comparable with the same decal-to wit he starts getting more po'ed, and basically makes a scene, asking or more like stating, how can he know for sure she's even telling the truth about it-or know that she didn't actually wash it. What the...? That was the wrong thing to say-basically he's calling her a liar in not so many words. My little princess was not at all happy; she threw the hoodie on the counter, told them to keep it, and walked out the store, madder than a hornet!
This could have been handled so much better than it was. Instead of gaining a loyal customer, they just lost one-and maybe many more when people read this? If businesses were willing to make there paying customers happy by honesty acknowledging their mistakes and fixing them, they'd continue to have happy customers. Otherwise they're shooting themselves in the foot.
I had forgotten the name of this store, until I looked it up on my credit card statement. I'll remember it now for sure, but for all the wrong reasons-We'll never shop at Ocean Waves again, ever. Ocean City has more stores like this store than you can shake a stick at; and I bet most have more integrity and can probably can do a much better job, along with a much better attitude to match. read more
