Every winter for the last 25 years I have spent at least a few days in the Florida Keys, and always…read morestay at the Key Lantern/Blue Fin in Islamorada. I have always had a good experience. The rooms are basic and clean, and include small rooms on the Key Lantern side and larger rooms on the Blue Fin side, with kitchens. The Key Lantern is absolutely the best hotel bargain in the Keys. My wife likes fancy, and when she is with me we have spent as much as $500 a night or more elsewhere. If you want or need a pool, room service, and a new facility, try one of the $500 a night places. But at the Key Lantern you will get clean, basic accommodations for closer to $100 per night. A side benefit is that the Lor-e-Lei, one of the best casual restaurants in the Keys, is right next door. You get an outdoor sunset view over the Bay from the restaurant (photo attached), with live entertainment most nights. Someday we will loose this gem, and the property will be developed into a hotel with rates 6 times as high. Until then, if you want basic accommodations, try the Key Lantern. You won't be sorry.

You won't find entry cards but old school keys and a shower that reminded me of an old cabin we'd rent in "Up North" Michigan back in my childhood. The bed didn't even have a headboard and it was just inches from the front window but it gave me a good night's rest, especially valuable after sleeping the previous night in my Nissan Rogue rental after finding last minute hotel rooms on Art Basel weekend near Miami wasn't happening. I much prefer 11 am checkout to 10 but I won't grouse much. It got me on an early start to my journey to Key West. Key Lantern Motel is actually two buildings interspersed with trailers so it's literally in a trailer park! Fortunately Ricky wasn't shooting any guns, Bubbles' cats weren't meowing all night and Lahey wasn't stumbling around drunk knocking shit over in the middle of the night. There was some morning renovations at a trailer that made a bit of noise but it wasn't too bad. And there was a crazy art trailer with a sign that said THE SHED! No sign of the aforementioned Bubbles though. Maybe Ray is down here. I heard he moved to Florida after faking his own death for an insurance scam. Inexpensive funky old school little place... I wouldn't mind staying here again if I find myself in Islamorada. It's gotta be cheaper than anywhere in Key West and it's only a two hour drive.

They gave us a bottle of champagne to celebrate our anniversary. We use the on-site bikes for a day, cruise, and went kayaking. We spent a lot of time at the pool, and I appreciated the wind blocks that kept you toasty and warm while storms passed through. We also enjoyed the food trucks on site and market full of so many treasures. I didn't care for the outdoor seating area outside of our room because it got really buggy (we stayed in the cabin closest to the road). We also noticed several sand fleas in the lounging area by the beach, and got chewed up on our legs. Ick! At the end of the day, we would definitely go back.

They also gave us recommendations and I don't remember the name. We walked across the street for dinner the first night the second night we Uber to another place down the road. We'll be back!

The villas have separate rooms with common areas and the one I was in had three bedrooms. The bedroom situation was similar to a hotel room. A nice comfortable bed, a private bathroom, generous closet space, and - most importantly - a good stable temperature even with the thermostat being out in the hall. A ceiling fan helps with circulation, which is great too. The only real downside I can think of is that two of the bedrooms are on the second floor, and you need to take this into account with your luggage as there are no elevators. Well, that and the fact that the finish of the stairs blend into the floor at the bottom so if you are older this might make for a physical perception problem as well. Anyway... Parking is a little tight when the place is full, but the location worked out really well for the wedding ceremony. Out on the point you can see the sunset across the water in the evening. Manatees frequent the dock which are a sight to behold. Across the dock there was a nice flat area on hard sand that was perfect for the reception. Yes, there are water activities including dolphin interactions across the boarder from what are the villas, but I can't make any comment on that part since I didn't manage to even visit over there.

This includes AC, a large screened in porch, a kitchen (no oven) , full size fridge, stove top , microwave, toaster & blender. The freezer has an ice maker. There's a full size table, pull out sofa, recliner, two tvs a king bed and one bathroom. Of course you don't really spend your time in the room because the view is AMAZING! You are directly on the water. There's a marina right next door to launch and store your boat/ trailer. For the week it's was $204. If you dock your boat at Anchorage it's $1 a foot per day. I'm not sure the cost of you are not staying there. Outside there is seating including loungers and tiki spots, tennis, shuffle board, heated swimming pool ,docks to fish off and dock your boat. Fish cleaning stations, outdoor bathrooms with showers, two grills (I made pizza on them) & one charcoal grill . They sell ice on site for $2 and they have laundry on the 3rd floor it is $2 per wash/dry. No trailers or boats aloud in the parking lot. There is a code for the gate to get in and out. There are luggage carts and one elevator. The staff were friendly and helpful. The ladies came on Wednesday to exchange towels if you needed. There is a tiki bar across the way and they have live music sat. A few things we didn't love, the ants... the ants were OUTSIDE but around where you are sitting. Our sink was leaking but they gave us a bucket. The pool heater was not on when we arrived but the guys fixed it he said the pilot light was out. The ice in the freezer can't keep up with the ice needed. While sitting on the porch the ACs are blowing hot air. A fan would be nice outside!

When we pulled up I was a little hesitant about the building, but once we pulled in the gate that all changed. All the rooms are time-share rental condo's and huge! King bed, seperate living room and kitchen. All the appliances were new and clean. Its a gated building, so no worry about security. Right on the water with a great view. Pool was awsome and the staff is great! Its a great value for the $$$. There are no fancy places in Key Largo unless you are paying $700+ a night. Most are run down, as we looked at a few others. This is located right when you get to Key Largo and only a few minutes into the main strip. This is not a hotel room, but a full blown condo

My cabin had a complete kitchen with a high chair bar setup, good sized bedroom with double queens (that's queens as in "bed size," not the boys) living room with TV and sofa, large refrigerator and simple but adequate bathroom. The office staff are most pleasant and have sales of ice, water and varying soda. The areas for parking have extra-large spaces. So no need to worry about getting your car dinged by others when loading or unloading.

And if you ever need help finding your house, just ask people at the pool, I'm positive they'll help you (unless nobody is there) and don't get me started with the inside!! There's a whole jacuzzi in the bathroom some units might not have one. There's also a sofa bed. 4 beds in total, two bathrooms, and one kitchen, may sound boring but trust me, nowhere NEAR being boring. In my opinion, it's worth the money.
