It was such a lovely get away. In TX... you have to have a TX beach view. This hotel was right on the beach. We literally just sat up on the shared balcony most of our stay. We could see the beach, hear the waves and feel the wind without ever steeping foot off the property. We did go for a swim and walk on the beach... no need for shleping things down to the beach... just walk down the steps and across the boardwalk. The hotel itself was simple and very clean. The restaurant on property was very convenient. The office offered a free bag of ice a day and fruit. It was a lovely stay. Wonderful helpful staff; fabulous restaurant; unbelievable view with a very quiet setting compared to northern end of the island. Very pet friendly and there was a coffee truck out on the street 3 minutes walk from our room. Room was nice and clean. All our needs were met. Area was very quiet which was just what we were hoping for after all the big cities. Much much quieter than Galveston. Bring fishing rods & drive down to the end of "Bryan Beach State park" for great fishing on where the Brazos meets the gulf. Ocean Village Hotel is right on Surfside Beach in Texas. The views are wonderful. The receptionist, Candy, is so friendly. The battery on our car died. We hardly mentioned it to her and she was immediately on the phone to their maintenance person who promptly came and gave us a jump start. I cannot say enough good things about our stay. We stayed for 3 nights. Room was clean. A/C worked great. Staff very friendly as well. They do have a Keurig like one cup coffee maker in room with packet of creamer, sugar, pink stuff & stirrer. Coffee provided was surprisingly good. The water knob in shower was messed up, very loose and no stopper for tub. Water was extremely hot which was great, however, it did turn yellow and smelled. We were in one of the first rooms by the outside door and not sure why people kept slamming the door as door had to be pulled or pushed to shut and could be done quietly. We also left something behind and realized it several hours after leaving and they were able to retrieve it for us. We'll be back. I am staying in the Hotel and I have dirty sheets. I paid $108 including taxes. Didn't get a discount. Didn't ask. Room looked nice clean and comfortable when I got in the room. The hotel is at Freeport, Texas Beach. I got in the room and when I went to bed with my significant other, I noticed that the sheets down near my feet seemed a little rough. Was tired. Went to sleep. Woke up at 4. Couldn't sleep so I pulled the top sheet aside and started feeling the bottom sheet at the foot. It was SAND! Someone had come back to the room with sandy feet and hopped in to bed apparently. That's OK. What is not OK is Ocean Village Hotel didn't change the sheets out before I got there for my full priced wintertime room. read more

Where do I start? Friends booked a few minutes before me. Was given a cheaper rate. When I inquired the difference I was told we were going to be in a larger room with ocean view. Checked in got to room. Totally untrue on both. Our room was smaller and faced the office not the ocean. Now comes our room. Holes in the walls, bathroom door wouldn't close at all, lamp broke, rust in bath tub, then here comes the craziest. We pulled back sheets and they weren't changed. (This was our first night) not changed from previous guest but was made. There was blood on our sheets. I pulled back and thought maybe just a stain. Nope it was on mattress also. Called front desk. I was very cool and calm. Told front desk we pulled back sheets and found blood. "Front desk girl says "what we change them daily!" I said mam there's blood on sheets and mattress it hasn't been changed. Next I get more attitude. "The blood must of came from you!" I said this is our first night we just turned back the sheets! She says "are you saying someone snook in your room and bled on sheets" I'm in aw at this point... I say no, what I'm telling you is there is blood and they were not changed! She comes up to change and brings queen sheets. Leaves and comes back with another sheet. I help try to put this on as wife holds blankets. Yep another queen.... She then says do you want to change rooms? I said where would we be moved? She replies to another building and ask if we were going home tomorrow? I tell her no we are here thurs-Sunday not just one day. She then says well that won't work on moving cause we are at 100% capacity. I said the room is bad but with new bedding we will stay here and just make the best of it. By this point she became slightly more apologetic. Took a pic of the blood and mattress and went for sheets a third time and came back with king. I helped make bed and we finally went to bed. Bed was pretty comfortable but squeaked like you wouldn't believe. But after a long day on the beach it was cool and comfortable so we stuck it out. The next day we woke up super early to go do things and came back to take a nap. We were told at checkin there would not be room service at all due to covid. And if we needed fresh anything we'd have to go to the office and give dirty to receive new. But the girl from the night of the blood did tell house keeping about our bloody sheets so they did come around 2 to change again. Thought that was nice but was unexpected. Now moving on to the rest of the property. Needs some serious upkeep. Several chairs broken at dinner. On decks etc. Paint, holes in walls , doors not closing all need to be addressed. The restaurant was very good! Food was great! Staff was more friendly and overall was good. Checkout. Walked in said good morning immediately noticed attitude like she didn't want to be there or deal with customers. She ask me about stay I told her the experience with the dirty sheets and the attitude from the other front staff girl. She said that was unacceptable but didn't offer anything other than that. Clearly it's unacceptable! Location was right on the beach. That was nice. But we went further down were it wasn't so busy everyday we were there. We paid $200+ a night for 3 night $620ish for three nights. You'd expect much more. Better conditions and attitudes. We only stuck the three nights out cause our friends were with us in a pet friendly room and didn't want to screw up being close etc. We did our best at making the best out of the situation. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. I'm totally confused by some of these reviews. This is not a $200 a night hotel. This is a $49 a night hotel. If I could post all the pics I took of the room I would... this is a accurate description of our room and stay. Oh visited our friends in the pet friendly room. That was larger. Lots of bad reviews in the last six-months or so, not sure they are completely deserved. I can only speak for the room we were in in building 400, the biggest building with HOTEL on the roof, but there's several smaller buildings. Would I stay there again? Probably, unless I found a swinging deal on an AirBnB/RBVO. The Good Our room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the AC rocked. Hot water was quick and quite hot. Bathroom was clean, no mold or mildew. Mini-fridge and microwave worked fine. Ice-maker in the hall worked great. Beach access was easy. The Meh The tap water has a yellowish tint to it and a little fizzy. Saw something at the museum in town about the area used to be mined for Sulphur, that probably explains that. Didn't taste funny or anything, just off-putting if you're not used to it. If you're the type who doesn't want housekeeping in your room, take a Swiffer/broom since you WILL get lots of sand on your floor. Elevator appears to be broken and been broken for a long time. There is a ramp, but I think it only goes to the "first floor". The beach boardwalks could use someone with a hammer knocking down a few, and I do mean few, nails that are sticking up a bit. Not really a hazard with proper footwear. Not the hotel's fault, it's a public beach, but it gets crowded out there. Beware of borrachos and their Bro Dozers hauling ass down the beach. The Ugly Take your own beach chairs and umbrella/canopy. They claim to have them available to rent, but only if they put them out in the mornings. If they decide not to set them up for whatever BS reason then you're hosed. You can't request one early. You can't reserve one. You can't ask for them to be setup. You can't set them up yourself. Sooooo, cheap chairs and umbrellas are available up the road at Buc-ee's. Office staff pretty hit and miss, dealing with them and their attitudes (one in particular) was the worst part of the trip. We were told they didn't put their chairs/umbrellas out because it was too windy, but the beach was full of people with their own umbrellas and canopies, so I call BS on that.... Ridiculous, and not even remotely legal, "No Guns" signs around, even in rooms. read more

We were so excited to find this place right on the beach. It looked much better than many of the options out here in Surfside Beach. Michelle the front desk staff was so nice and welcoming. She told us we could check out at noon the following day. This was the first question I asked when booking and the main reason I booked. Once I called to check in the morning, Mercedes who is apparently the manager answered and said I don't know why that was told to you because the room is booked after you. Yes Michelle mentioned normally they could extend until 2pm but since it's booked the latest they can do is noon. She rudely said she can't agree to noon and hung up on me. I tried to call back after being rudely hung up on and she wouldn't answer when I called back. I can see the office from my room and she wasn't on any other calls. So I went to the office and she was continually rude, cussing and called me a psychopath because I came to the office at 7am when she didn't answer the phone. This was the worst "manager" I have ever encountered. I asked for the owners number and she said you can call the hotel number so I replied with you won't answer it. She was rude (cussing saying f***ing and calling the customer names) and has horrible customer service. Just wow and what a joke. Worst interaction at a hotel ever! Management is the number one reason places suffer. Outside of the manager and her being awfully rude and not friendly: Room was clean, beds comfortable, ac working nice, small breakfast in the hotel lobby with the "lovely" manager. Absolutely the worst hotel experience of my life. First, we booked through a website but had to change our reservation, and somehow, the front desk charged us but then LOST our reservation. The person at the front desk said that someone had checked us OUT the week before but we had never checked in! That should've clued me in to what was about to happen. I can't believe I paid over $300 for a two night stay at this place with my family. I want my money back!!This hotel needs some work. The elevator is broken so we had to haul all of our stuff up three flights of stairs. The WiFi is a joke. In room 429, the fridge, the showerhead and the toilet were all broken. A towel holder by the sink was broken, one of the chairs on our privabalcony was broken. The floors were not clean. Because of COVID and because of my kids, I had brought my own Clorox wipes. I wiped down the light switch plates, doorknobs, the toilet and handrail in the bathroom...everything that people touch and all were BROWN with filth, so you know they're not taking any extra precautions to clean or sanitize these rooms. Also, on our last night there the fire alarm went off at 2 o'clock in the morning and woke everyone up in the hotel! I had to grab my kids, leave my stuff and run out of the building from the third floor in the middle of the night. Their fire alarm system is faulty. We evacuated down to the parking lot and the only thing the employee told us was, "well, I didn't set off the alarm, the system is faulty." He had his girlfriend with him and didn't seem to care one bit about customer service or doing his job. No apology and no real concern. We couldn't sleep in this place. The ONLY good things were the proximity to the beach, the view, and the nice dinner we had at the adjacent restaurant. One star. Clean and repair your hotel and train your staff! I requested a refund but was told the "general manager will reach out to us." Will update my review if that actually happens. read more

Pay luxury hotel prices for location. Ocean Village is right by the entrance to Surfside Beach and there are great views from your hotel room. We had a king bed pet friendly room with a $50 charge per dog on the third floor. In retrospect it should have been obvious from the pictures there are no elevators, so if you plan on bringing a lot of luggage you might want to request a lower room. The bed itself was not uncomfortable, the reason we had trouble sleeping is because the linens are scratchy and sparse. If you're driving in consider bringing your own blankets. Our top sheet was damp from the humidity. We had a mini fridge, microwave and TV. There were two nightstands, a desk, a chair and a chest. Pretty much no closet to speak of, more of a cubby with two hangers. There was shampoo and soap in the bathroom with plenty of towels. There is a hairdryer. None of this felt particularly "nice" but at least it was clean. Food at the Seahorse Bar and Grill was decent. The area was swarming with mosquitoes. It rained during most of our stay but I still enjoyed it. read more

I am shocked and extremely upset by this hotel! After driving for 2 hrs, showing up and being told that the movie isn't showing. The owner was extremely rude and refused to work with us whatsoever. No refund, no rain check, not even a discount or complimentary drink. I understand that weather can't be controlled but there was no notification except them posting on the event a mere 5 hours ago ( but Anyone getting a room has to cancel within 24 hrs?!) and they had our contact information! and even then, nothing was done by the establishment. The owner even threatened to call the police when we were voicing our frustration, saying " I can't deal with this right now, I'll call the police" this is ludicrous. No one in my family even so much as raised our voices. Never coming back. Update- after leaving my review on facebook, the owner deleted it and blocked me on fb. My fiancé and I had an amazing time. They run at about $99 per night, but it is really worth it! Wonderful & beautiful beach atmosphere, obviously, but really great. The room is about the size of a standard bedroom in an average house. It was nice and clean and comfortable, we couldn't have asked for more. We had plenty of towels and refreshments. My husband and the kids arrived before I did and checked in. He didn't know anything about the room I booked, so nothing was out of the ordinary to him. I arrived a few hours later and they met me out at the car. My daughter immediately asked me where everyone was going to sleep. I told her not to worry, that the couch pulled put to a bed and there would be plenty of room. It was then that I learned there was no couch and we had been given the wrong room. I went to the front desk thinking that this would be an easy fix and I was very wrong. The young lady behind the counter is one of the rudest people I've ever encountered. I explained the situation to her and she just looked at me and kind of sighed. I began to look for my confirmation email on my phone to show her, but she found it on her computer and proceeded to tell me that I did in fact book the room I thought, but the description on the website was wrong....for the price I paid, I should have gotten a double bed. I said I understood, but that was not my fault, I booked a room that could sleep 6 and was given a room that would only sleep 4. She told me that the hotel was completely booked up and there was nothing she could do and just kind of looked at me. No I'm sorry, nothing. I asked for a rollaway bed and she said they did not carry them. Again she just looked at me. She didn't even offer extra blankets so I could make a pallet. I asked to speak to the manager and she said there was not one on site. I asked for a phone number where I could reach a manager and she pointed at the brochures on the desk. I was getting very frustrated at this point so I left the office. I called the number on the brochure once outside and spoke with Donna I believe was her name. I told her the situation and she apologized and said to let her walk down to the front desk and see about getting us moved (guess there was manager on site....). She was very nice and professional so I felt a little better about the situation so my family and I decided to go get some dinner at the attached restaurant while we waited for our new room. She never called me back. After dinner, I attempted to call her and the phone went strait to voicemail. I went back to the office and told the lady behind the desk that I had spoken with the manager and she said she was going to find us a different room. The lady said that there was one double room available. I thought, Great!.. I can send the older kids to that room and everyone will have a place to sleep...but then she told me I would have to pay for the room. Now at this point it's probably 9 at night and the room had not been reserved and probably would not be for the night. She had absolutely nothing to lose by giving us the room, but chose not to. Her attitude remained in the same nonchalant style as it was from the moment I walked through the door. Frustrated, I left and headed back to the double room. I asked my husband to go back and get some extra blankets so I could make a pallet on the floor for the kids. I tried to call the manager two or three times the next day and left messages. She never called me back. We travel a lot and this is the worst place I've ever stayed. By far. Some additional things worth mentioning: All the channels on the TV were fuzzy Saturday morning when we went to walk down to the beach I noticed no one cleaned up the area where they had karaoke the night before. There were beer bottles and half empty cocktails on all the tables. As a former server, I know all alcohol should have been picked up at 2 am. Would have been unfortunate if someone's little kids would have gotten into the drinks. read more

I have to give two stars because our room was very nice and clean. But unfortunately we had a horrible visit. We got down to Surfside a little early (2:30pm). When we arrived at the check in I told the clerk "I know we are a little early I'm just checking to see if our room was ready". The clerk replied "oh yes it's empty and already cleaned. We went through the check in process and at 2:40 we were all done and she says "now when you come back at 3 we will give you yours keys" WTH???? Are you kidding me??? By the time we drive to the building, get out kids out and unpack the car, it will be 3!!! We aren't trying to get extra free time!!! So instead we had to sit outside in the sun on one of two uncovered patio tables and eat our lunch because we couldn't use any other amenities without being checked in. The room itself, like I said was very nice. And clean. But I went and filled my Tervis with ice water and was shocked at how bad the tap water tasted and smelled!!! We were given two bottles of water. When I called the front desk I found out they were free. Thank goodness. I drink liters of water a day so two bottles was not enough for me. So I had to call family that was on their way to stop and pick up cases of water. When our family members showed up they checked into the room next to us, by surprise to us. Then they informed us that they had called the month prior to ask what room we were in and if they could be in our adjoining room!!! I was so surprised that the hotel would just give out that information. That night when giving our kids a bath I was horrified that not only did the water smell, but it was very yellow too!! I didn't even want to put my kids in the bath tub. When we went to sleep another problem arose, the hurricane proof heavy glass entrance door to our floor was outside our room and would SLAM shut every time anyone would come in and out of the hallway!!! OMG!!! ALL NIGHT LONG!!!! The second night someone actually backed their truck up directly underneath our room to the recreation area under the building and turned their radio on!!! When I called the front desk they informed me the noise curfew was 10pm. So I waited it out and at 9:45 they turned the music off. However, that damn door SLAMMED open and shut regularly until around 2am (yes I was still awake because of the damn door). My son woke up several times as problem came in and out. It was RIDICULOUS!!! After two nights of terrible sleep I was glad to be going home. Pros: the room was nice and clean, perfect location, great view from our room (even though that patio had a bunch of bird pop and loose rails). Would I stay here again: maybe....but I would not bring my kids as it is not kid friendly from the amount of noise and water issues. and I would request a room FAR away from any of the glass exit doors. read more

Where do I begin? This place was a nightmare to locate at night as there are few streetlights anywhere. GPS lead me down the street but the hotel is across the parking lot from where the office is. So figuring out what building is what, is not intuitive. I got a room with two queens for my daughter and I. I did not get the upgrade they offered me (the BEST view in the whole hotel she said). NOPE. It was an ordinary room several rooms down the hall from the ocean, but it was on the top floor/3rd floor. The room smelled as though wet dogs that had lived there a month before my arrival. The wood floors didn't look like they had been cleaned in a while.There was mold at the bottom of the shower curtain, and hair stuck to the wall of the shower stall that was missed in the cleaning, twice. I'm certain to get a foot fungus because they don't clean well, if at all. The TV channels are very blurry, so the sound will have to do. Hardly worth trying to watch, so bring a book. There are no phones in the rooms so if you misplace your cell, you're screwed. I was also told that there was continental breakfast included. NOPE. The lady in the office was so cold she was clammy and needed a pulse check. She said breakfast is in the restaurant next door and was only "included" on certain weekdays, not on the days I would be there, even though I asked specifically on the phone and was told it WAS included. NO apology for lying to me, let alone an offer to make things right. Well, breakfast next door was AWFUL. Do NOT eat there. I'll have a separate review for that. I spent three nights at a price of $304 to include taxes, mind you this is off-season, it was chilly and windy out. Pluses? Access to the beach, nice view from the verandas. Easy to regulate the heat. Has a fridge; make sure to use it since good food is scarce. Internet WiFi was okay for mobile phone use. I should have stayed in Clute at LaQuinta and saved my money and then driven to the jetty for walking on the beach. read more

Stayed there a few weekends ago with my wife and kids. The location is great. The beach is very clean for a Texas beach. The rooms are very small. I have 3 kids, and that made things difficult. Getting new towels and general service from them was difficult. Other negative thing is that the water from the tap is yellow. Wouldn't dare drink it. I was hesitant to bathe in it. But, for a quick getaway with your spouse, I can see it being fun. I wouldn't go back with kids. I would just rent a beach house next time. read more

Boy! Did I have a blast here! The hotel was made up of a few different buildings. We checked in on a Thursday. I was able to walk a couple feet from the parking lot, while My friend was checking us in, to go dip my feet in the water. The beach sand was nice and soft. The room was a nice size, and very clean, with a private covered balcony, with chairs and a bench. The room had a really comfortable king bed, refrigerator, microwave, table with chairs, and a TV. No carpeting - which is definitely understandable with all of the sand you attract while you're in Surfside. There were times I wasn't by the beach, yet every time I closed my mouth - I was chewing on sand. I didn't like it, but it would not deter me from returning. If you go on the balcony, remember to LOCK the door when you go back in, because if you leave the room - the balcony door will be open will you come back in. The tap water is well water - or something like that - they advise you not to drink the water, but provide you with free water and juices - which was a huge plus for the hotel. They do have a 10 PM "curfew" for the hotel, as it is a family hotel, and I guess they dont want you to be disruptive....it was a little weird to be advised of an adult curfew while on vacation...but, we still had our fun!!! The staff who we encountered were all very nice. Bring your own beach towels, because you are not supposed to take the hotel towels. They do have showers on the bottom floor of the buildings, and faucet style foot washes (VERY HANDY), and there is a covered BBQ party area, as well. I can't wait to come back, especially since its only an hour away! So peaceful and refreshing...I did NOT want to leave. We stayed here for 8 days and I'm having a hard time rating them. The rooms are clean however we had to ask them to change the sheets after 5 days. Because otherwise they wouldn't have changed them. Also watch your step our room had several uneven/sinking floor boards. The internet is nonexistent! Don't even bother trying to connect and while they state on their website that they have new flat screen TVs you only get standard definition, with a hand full of channels. The customer service is spotty. It all depends on who is at the front desk. Some where friendly while others seemed like they hate the job and don't want to be there. One girl who checked us in answered a FaceTime call while she was helping us. Also Don't expect breakfast they have cereal and milk. There's no where close by that serves breakfast during the week so you're just out of luck. On the weekends you can pay $12 a person for the buffet at the on site restaurant. The only thing saving them from a one star review is the view/proximity to the beach. They have lots of balconies to sit and enjoy the view. Location is what this hotel is ALL about and it's the perfect location for people who want to just walk right out onto the beach! BUT it needs a little help. I'm not sure why but every time we tried to shower the bathroom and just outside the bathroom would fill up with water. We had to use bathroom towels on the floors to dry it up which left us with 1 towel to use. And no phone in the room to call the front desk. Signs in the hall clearly say Do Not Run in Halls and Do Not Slam Room Doors. HA! This kept us up all night both nights we stayed there. Each time a neighbor opened or closed their door our door shook so badly it sounded like someone was always trying to break into our room. No exaggeration there. Lastly - I confirmed via phone that they rent beach chairs and umbrellas at the hotel. Yes they do each morning, you can't reserve them in advance though. Even confirmed at check-in, front desk said to come back in the morning around 8 to rent. Was there at 8am and apparently they are rented out by a 3rd party who wasn't there yet. Kept checking back again and again and nothing. Finally found out after lunch 3rd party person quit so no chairs to rent. I had left my chairs at home since they took up so much space in my car....only to have to go buy a chair after lunch. Ugh! Pros: Our ocean view from our balcony was stunning though! We've stayed at this hotel several times and it exceeds our expectations every time! This visit for memorial weekend we booked through booking.com which we have never done before. There was a mix up in our reservation from booking.com which resulted in our booking falling through the cracks. We were all packed up for the weekend and had driven 2 hours to get there and suddenly just finding out we did not had a reservation. Although we were upset because we knew we could not find a room so last minute being memorial weekend the ocean village hotel staff worked with us and made sure we got a room. They were able to accommodate us with an upgraded room at a lower rate! Thank you Ocean Village hotel... we will keep coming back again and again!! read more
