Great and quiet place to stay right off beach. Bar/restaurant overlooking beach attached to site. Good rates outside of summer and with comfortable old fashioned balconies. A good stay away from the hustle of Galveston in Freeport Texas. Thinking of driving back to Houston or elsewhere in Texas after a nice day at the beach? Dont!!, stay here, get up, have breakfast, a coffee or drink a beer and watch the amazing sunrise from the beach.

We stayed for 3 nights. Room was clean. A/C worked great. Staff very friendly as well. They do have a Keurig like one cup coffee maker in room with packet of creamer, sugar, pink stuff & stirrer. Coffee provided was surprisingly good. The water knob in shower was messed up, very loose and no stopper for tub. Water was extremely hot which was great, however, it did turn yellow and smelled. We were in one of the first rooms by the outside door and not sure why people kept slamming the door as door had to be pulled or pushed to shut and could be done quietly. We also left something behind and realized it several hours after leaving and they were able to retrieve it for us. We'll be back. Shout out to Mercedes and rest of staff for retrieving & holding the item we left behind. Picked it up today 7/17.

I am staying in the Hotel and I have dirty sheets. I paid $108 including taxes. Didn't get a discount. Didn't ask. Room looked nice clean and comfortable when I got in the room. The hotel is at Freeport, Texas Beach. I got in the room and when I went to bed with my significant other, I noticed that the sheets down near my feet seemed a little rough. Was tired. Went to sleep. Woke up at 4. Couldn't sleep so I pulled the top sheet aside and started feeling the bottom sheet at the foot. It was SAND! Someone had come back to the room with sandy feet and hopped in to bed apparently. That's OK. What is not OK is Ocean Village Hotel didn't change the sheets out before I got there for my full priced wintertime room.

We stayed here during a road trip from Florida to Texas. You can tell they had renovated it but you can tell the building is old. It was a nice place to stay. We were only there for a night. I booked online and arrived 30 minutes later. Checked in and I even asked for a view of the water. She was very accommodating. It was seamless. I would go back if ever I am over that way again. The view was beautiful!

Great unassuming hotel right on the Gulf Coast in Surfside. Friendly staff and a fantastic clean and very comfortable room, all you could want. Step out your door and walk to the water. What more could you ask for, highly recommended and will be back many times.

Where do I start? Friends booked a few minutes before me. Was given a cheaper rate. When I inquired the difference I was told we were going to be in a larger room with ocean view. Checked in got to room. Totally untrue on both. Our room was smaller and faced the office not the ocean. Now comes our room. Holes in the walls, bathroom door wouldn't close at all, lamp broke, rust in bath tub, then here comes the craziest. We pulled back sheets and they weren't changed. (This was our first night) not changed from previous guest but was made. There was blood on our sheets. I pulled back and thought maybe just a stain. Nope it was on mattress also. Called front desk. I was very cool and calm. Told front desk we pulled back sheets and found blood. "Front desk girl says "what we change them daily!" I said mam there's blood on sheets and mattress it hasn't been changed. Next I get more attitude. "The blood must of came from you!" I said this is our first night we just turned back the sheets! She says "are you saying someone snook in your room and bled on sheets" I'm in aw at this point... I say no, what I'm telling you is there is blood and they were not changed! She comes up to change and brings queen sheets. Leaves and comes back with another sheet. I help try to put this on as wife holds blankets. Yep another queen.... She then says do you want to change rooms? I said where would we be moved? She replies to another building and ask if we were going home tomorrow? I tell her no we are here thurs-Sunday not just one day. She then says well that won't work on moving cause we are at 100% capacity. I said the room is bad but with new bedding we will stay here and just make the best of it. By this point she became slightly more apologetic. Took a pic of the blood and mattress and went for sheets a third time and came back with king. I helped make bed and we finally went to bed. Bed was pretty comfortable but squeaked like you wouldn't believe. But after a long day on the beach it was cool and comfortable so we stuck it out. The next day we woke up super early to go do things and came back to take a nap. We were told at checkin there would not be room service at all due to covid. And if we needed fresh anything we'd have to go to the office and give dirty to receive new. But the girl from the night of the blood did tell house keeping about our bloody sheets so they did come around 2 to change again. Thought that was nice but was unexpected. Now moving on to the rest of the property. Needs some serious upkeep. Several chairs broken at dinner. On decks etc. Paint, holes in walls , doors not closing all need to be addressed. The restaurant was very good! Food was great! Staff was more friendly and overall was good. Checkout. Walked in said good morning immediately noticed attitude like she didn't want to be there or deal with customers. She ask me about stay I told her the experience with the dirty sheets and the attitude from the other front staff girl. She said that was unacceptable but didn't offer anything other than that. Clearly it's unacceptable! Location was right on the beach. That was nice. But we went further down were it wasn't so busy everyday we were there. We paid $200+ a night for 3 night $620ish for three nights. You'd expect much more. Better conditions and attitudes. We only stuck the three nights out cause our friends were with us in a pet friendly room and didn't want to screw up being close etc. We did our best at making the best out of the situation. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. I'm totally confused by some of these reviews. This is not a $200 a night hotel. This is a $49 a night hotel. If I could post all the pics I took of the room I would... this is a accurate description of our room and stay. Oh visited our friends in the pet friendly room. That was larger. Massive cock roach in the room. It was alive! Not again! Owners need to renovate and manage employees and property

Now serving breakfast room side with a great view of the morning sunrise.

Ocean Village is such a great place to stay and vist. I wish I could have brought my bed from home here and leave it and take this bed, such a great night sleep. The staff is so good and helpful great job with customer service.

Any property right on the beach is going to show some wear and tear thanks to the salt and moisture in the air, but I was impressed with how well-maintained this place was, all things considered. You truly can't beat the price--$70 to $80 a night, and you get a little kitchenette, which is super convenient. On the downside, our fridge didn't work very well, and the freezer wasn't much colder than the fridge. That said, the beds were clean and surprisingly comfortable, with fresh sheets and towels. The overall cleanliness exceeded my expectations for a budget-friendly motel. The staff was kind and accommodating, which made a big difference. Also, it's pet-friendly, which we appreciated, with a very reasonable pet fee (either $15 or $50 depending on the situation--and you may be able to get that $50 back). All in all, I would definitely stay here again. It's not fancy, but it's clean, affordable, and right on the beach--which is what really counts.

She told us to let her know if there was anything that we needed very kind of her. We didn't mind putting the $20 down for the key deposit. Our hotel bookings total was $81 good price for a place by the beach. We only stayed one night seeing it was. It was a spontaneous trip for my husband's birthday when we got into the room there was an absolute foul smell it smelled of mildew and sulfur. The only thing that got the stench out was me being over prepared and packing air freshener since i read the reviews before booking. the water is so smelly like sewage and sulfur. My husband was gagging when he was brushing his teeth because of the water we brought bottled just in case. The room was pretty clean sheets & pillows. At night when we were getting ready for bead a 1.5in roach came crawling out from behind our headboard. i think this place is great for a overnight beach trip. quick little in and out, so much potential for this place.

Let me start this review by saying I wish I could give 2 and a half stars. This place is not bad…read more Not by a long shot. But it's not nice either. The rate is great. You can't argue with a beachfront hotel at under 100 bucks a night. However, you are getting what you pay for. We had a regular room. It was tiny. But, since we weren't there long, that was fine. The place was clean, except for the ever present sand on the tile floor. I wish they had put little mats next to the bed to let you clean your feet off before getting in. We had to use one of the hand towels for that job. The room looked tired. Not dirty, not vandalized, just tired. The missing picture over the bed was obvious. The rust spots on the fridge and bathtub made me sad. The water damage on the ceiling in the bathroom was just kind of a bummer. The A/C worked great. That was a blessing in the 100+ weather. Now, the water in this area is rather corrosive. I have had friends living in the area tell me that you can't keep your fixtures looking good because of it. Seems there is sulfur in the stuff. Ick. It is smelly. Not the hotel's fault that the water is bad, but the corrosion on the fixtures continues the sad feeling. So, all in all, if you really are only planning on sleeping in the room and otherwise staying out in the beaches and fishing spots, go for it. If you're looking for something nice that you might want to spend time in with your honey, maybe you should keep looking.

I think if I were staying more than a night the sand would get on my nerves (but what the heck can you do about sand when you're parking lot is literally the beach?), and so would the smell (and taste) of the water. For $80.00 a night, I want a little more. This place was worth about $50-60.00 per night... (though really, I want to say $49.95 - but I'm TRYING to be generous because I really WANT to like Cedar Sands). The proprietor was nice enough and apologetic for an incident the night we stayed involving a rude (probably drunk) guest and the Surfside Police Dept. (We missed this entirely, didn't even know it went down, but it was nice that he was concerned). This is one of those places to go if you're a total beach bum (as much as a I love the beach, I'm not) who is only interested in surfing, surf fishing, and being as close to beach as humanly possible without having to rent an entire beach house. I don't think we'll go back. I think we'll look for other options. But if push came to shove, I would stay here again if I had no better choice. Especially if the rates were more in line with the property.

Online, this place said it was remodeled in 2021, so it has to be good, right? Wrong. We booked a deluxe kind room for our honeymoon at the beach. We get here, and he hands us the key for a double queen. I tell him no, we booked a deluxe kind and paid in advance. Nobody called to tell us that this room wasn't available. He says they did try to call me, then read a number that isn't mine. Says that our originally booked room is unavailable because someone smoked in it, so we were downgraded to the double queen. Then he said we weren't being charged for that first night, yet he wouldn't issue a refund for it. The room was dirty, there looks to be blood inside the lamp shade and on the bed spread, someone punched a whole in the bathroom door, the microwave was melted, and the sheets were stained. When I went back to the front desk to tell him, and ask once again if we could be moved to a king room like we paid for, he said, well actually no, because we have to paint that room. I told him he didn't mention painting before, just that the room needed aired out, and he said that it needs painted now. But he got us in a king room the next night. Great, let's go. We got to the room, and he had just has house keeping go through it. Cool. Except that night, when we were laying in bed, we saw roaches crawling the walls. The air conditioner only worked on half the unit and the kitchenette didn't work until our last night because a breaker had been flipped. Housekeeping knocked on our door at 8 am every morning and when we would ask them if they could come back in a few minutes so we could get dressed and get out of the way, they never came back. We had the same sandy towels for 3 1/2 days before the office offered us new ones. The desk clerk was condescending and rude every time I spoke with him, and I honestly didn't feel safe walking to our room alone at night because the hotel is just sketchy overall. I understand that we booked a motel 6, and I understand the stipulations around motels. But this one was just bad. I've stayed in motel 6's with my family most of my life and they were not like this. I will never stay in another motel 6 in my life. We are extremely disappointed.
