    Nasty kitchen counters
    Ashley M.

Chiiiiiiile this place was DISGUSTING!!! It was like $95 plus a $20 deposit on Expedia. I usually stay at The Breeze; but they were booked. I wanted to cry when I walked in this room my mom didn't even stay the night because of how trifling this placed looked. I was going to cook for my mama (that's why I got the one with the kitchenette) but after seeing this shit. I had my son go to Popeyes you definitely get what you pay for here. This would be a LAST resort. Good place to rinse the sand outta ya ass‍

    Bathtub was so bad

Please do not stay here! This place is awful and I don't understand how it is even open. The whole place is falling apart. It stinks, there are roaches, and see my pictures to look at the way they use electrical outlets. Dark brown shag carpet was so gross. I walked into my room and immediately was upset. This place is disgusting. Bathtub so gross you would not want your feet to touch the tub. There was snot dried up on my wall as well. I called the office and they come to my room. Housekeeping says, this is not snot, it's a squashed roach on the wall. Umm, ok, just as gross. I was offered a different room and I declined. I did get a refund so that was nice. Absolutely disgusting.

    Feces? Blood? Who knows?

Hold on to your eyeballs, this is going to be a long read. TLDR: Don't stay here, it doesn't matter how much money you save, it's not worth it. It's gross. So, to start this review, we booked this motel with the intent of staying multiple nights while we took care of business in the area. It was to be a business/pleasure style trip. We left Dallas late and arrived at the hotel about 10 minutes after 9pm. Knowing that check ins after 9 were frowned upon, we called the front desk and updated them a couple of times letting them know about where we were, and how long it would take us to arrive. They said arriving a few minutes late would be fine and there shouldn't be an issue. The first time we called, a woman answered, the second time we called and told them we were in Angleton, a man answered and said they looked forward to seeing us. Upon arrival, my fiancé went in to collect the keys. I wasn't there to witness the interaction, but she told me that she was made to feel very unwelcome, and that the woman who checked her in was rude, and was not wearing a mask. She also informed my fiancé that she would be taking a $20 key deposit per room and would be inspecting the rooms before we left before she would refund the deposit. Keys in hand, we went around back to park and unload our things. Walking upstairs to the room, the walkway was littered with debris, there were chairs in the path at random intervals which required hoisting of luggage over it to get by (you couldn't roll luggage past) and there were complications with getting the door unlocked with one of our rooms. I managed to get the key to work by physically forcing the key in while wiggling it until it seated and allowed the lock to turn. That done, I went back to the room I was staying in to finish unloading. Having had a poor experience at another hotel in the area recently, we decided this time we would bring "a layer of protection" against potentially dirty bedding, so we had some sheets, pillow shams and a blanket in the event we needed it. I'm very, very, VERY glad we did. More on that later. After hauling all of our things to the two rooms, I decided to take a look around. When we walked in, the dank smell of the room was quite evident with a slight undertone of urine. The beds were made as you'd expect, but that's about the only nice feature I can describe, what comes next is straight out of a nightmare. The gray carpet was wet/damp in places. The "kitchen" was dirty, the sink had what looked like dried soda in it, there was a bread tie on the microwave and a bread metal twist on the counter. There was dirt/dust on every thing in the room, and the higher up you went, the thicker it got. In fact, the further into the room I got, the more grossed out I got. After driving from Dallas to Surfside, I really needed to relieve myself. I walked into the bathroom to be completely and totally horrified and grossed out. Not much grosses me out, but when you see something you can't identify next to a toilet in a splatter pattern, you get grossed out. I don't care who you are, unless of course, one of the staff of this hotel. They must have been completely fine with it. Hey, at least the toilet had the blue water in it, right? I shimmied as far away from the offending splatter and took care of my business. I opened the lid, which was hanging on by a wish and a prayer, and relieved myself. The blue water went away upon flushing, and was replaced with yellow dingy water. So I flushed again, thinking there was some residual staining from the coloring they'd put in. Nope, apparently they'd only squirted it in the bowl, the water filling the toilet was actually tinged urine color. The shower was dirty, there was hair in the tub, the walls of the tub were stained/dirty. The sink in the bathroom was stained/dirty. The floors, as mentioned previously, had obviously not been mopped, swept or otherwise cared for. The countertops were grimy, and the water coming out of the tap of the faucet was also the same color as what was filling the toilet. The door of the bathroom wouldn't shut unless you put your shoulder into it. I went back into the main area to heat up a sandwich I'd purchased earlier in the day. I open the microwave to find the previous residents crumbs left behind in it. Thankfully my sandwich was wrapped, so I set it in and turned it on. I had beverages I'd brought for the road trip, and went to put them into the fridge while the meal was warming up. The refrigerator was "empty" but certainly not devoid of grime and dirt. This didn't surprise me, as filth, dirt, grime and disrepair seemed to be the ongoing theme of this place. With the comment made regarding "Checking the room" before we got our deposit back being made, I made sure to take plenty of pictures before we settled in so that we wouldn't be blamed for the state of the room. They are attached below. Do yourself a favor, skip this place. Please. For your safety and health.

A couple minor things, but that's just me. Nothing to detract from the overall experience. The staff were all exceedingly friendly and willing to help. Everyone I interacted with was smiling and cheerful. They have free cookies at the front desk in the afternoon, so when you come in after working all day you can have a cookie! Shout out to Melody working the morning breakfast and the front desk simultaneously. She was waaaay too perky so early in the morning! The hotel feels very modern. It seems to be very well kept. All the fixtures, furnishings, elevators, carpets, etc. were in good repair. The lobby and common areas were spotlessly clean. The door locks and keys worked well. Minimal misfires with the key cards. My room was fresh smelling and also very clean. The AC worked very well. Towels and linens were fresh and decent. One interesting thing if you are a member of BW Rewards. If you are willing to forego the housekeeping service, they will credit your account with 500 bonus points for each day you do. There was a card to hang on the door to let the maids know. Needless to say, this has likely become my go-to hotel when I am in the area again. I am a fan!

Online, this place said it was remodeled in 2021, so it has to be good, right? Wrong. We booked a deluxe kind room for our honeymoon at the beach. We get here, and he hands us the key for a double queen. I tell him no, we booked a deluxe kind and paid in advance. Nobody called to tell us that this room wasn't available. He says they did try to call me, then read a number that isn't mine. Says that our originally booked room is unavailable because someone smoked in it, so we were downgraded to the double queen. Then he said we weren't being charged for that first night, yet he wouldn't issue a refund for it. The room was dirty, there looks to be blood inside the lamp shade and on the bed spread, someone punched a whole in the bathroom door, the microwave was melted, and the sheets were stained. When I went back to the front desk to tell him, and ask once again if we could be moved to a king room like we paid for, he said, well actually no, because we have to paint that room. I told him he didn't mention painting before, just that the room needed aired out, and he said that it needs painted now. But he got us in a king room the next night. Great, let's go. We got to the room, and he had just has house keeping go through it. Cool. Except that night, when we were laying in bed, we saw roaches crawling the walls. The air conditioner only worked on half the unit and the kitchenette didn't work until our last night because a breaker had been flipped. Housekeeping knocked on our door at 8 am every morning and when we would ask them if they could come back in a few minutes so we could get dressed and get out of the way, they never came back. We had the same sandy towels for 3 1/2 days before the office offered us new ones. The desk clerk was condescending and rude every time I spoke with him, and I honestly didn't feel safe walking to our room alone at night because the hotel is just sketchy overall. I understand that we booked a motel 6, and I understand the stipulations around motels. But this one was just bad. I've stayed in motel 6's with my family most of my life and they were not like this. I will never stay in another motel 6 in my life. We are extremely disappointed.

You can't argue with a beachfront hotel at under 100 bucks a night. However, you are getting what you pay for. We had a regular room. It was tiny. But, since we weren't there long, that was fine. The place was clean, except for the ever present sand on the tile floor. I wish they had put little mats next to the bed to let you clean your feet off before getting in. We had to use one of the hand towels for that job. The room looked tired. Not dirty, not vandalized, just tired. The missing picture over the bed was obvious. The rust spots on the fridge and bathtub made me sad. The water damage on the ceiling in the bathroom was just kind of a bummer. The A/C worked great. That was a blessing in the 100+ weather. Now, the water in this area is rather corrosive. I have had friends living in the area tell me that you can't keep your fixtures looking good because of it. Seems there is sulfur in the stuff. Ick. It is smelly. Not the hotel's fault that the water is bad, but the corrosion on the fixtures continues the sad feeling. So, all in all, if you really are only planning on sleeping in the room and otherwise staying out in the beaches and fishing spots, go for it. If you're looking for something nice that you might want to spend time in with your honey, maybe you should keep looking.

I think if I were staying more than a night the sand would get on my nerves (but what the heck can you do about sand when you're parking lot is literally the beach?), and so would the smell (and taste) of the water. For $80.00 a night, I want a little more. This place was worth about $50-60.00 per night... (though really, I want to say $49.95 - but I'm TRYING to be generous because I really WANT to like Cedar Sands). The proprietor was nice enough and apologetic for an incident the night we stayed involving a rude (probably drunk) guest and the Surfside Police Dept. (We missed this entirely, didn't even know it went down, but it was nice that he was concerned). This is one of those places to go if you're a total beach bum (as much as a I love the beach, I'm not) who is only interested in surfing, surf fishing, and being as close to beach as humanly possible without having to rent an entire beach house. I don't think we'll go back. I think we'll look for other options. But if push came to shove, I would stay here again if I had no better choice. Especially if the rates were more in line with the property.
