For the price it's a good course. Layout is nice and carts are in good shape. Cart path could use some work or it's gonna beat up the carts and your rear end. Food and service at the grill are great! Club sandwich and the sausage are perfect and fries are unique and delicious. We made a mistake in the date ant they were very accommodating in getting us in anyway. The one thing they should do is have a Marshall in the course. Too many idiots waiting for the players ahead to reach the green before teeing off when they should hit faster they are out of reach and on their way to the green. It really backs things up. Last, most greens are decent but two of them are so bad they need to close and completely redo them. 10 is one and there's one on the from that look like the pic and have more weeds than grass. Still would go there based on price but need to be selective. read more

Not crazy about this course. It was in bad condition (October) which may be standard for Virginia, I do not know. The course was packed with inexperienced golfers who lack basic etiquette, borderline dangerous. I called it at 9 holes. You can't see the Ocean but this course is the Augusta National of Norfolk. It has the bones to be Augusta National. It's not as nice as Augusta National, but you could definitely call it Norfolk National. read more

The manger of the course is a real sweet man. I have alot more to say about BRUCE the gentleman who lined you up for play. He came at my wife and I and gave us a lip lashing, saying we were late for our T time . No we were not. So I told him he didn't have to be so rude. He spoke down to me so bad. I almost thought it was 1958 and he wanted his dinner on the table. Of course he tried to turn it around and put it on me. Sorry sir this is 2024 and you don't speak to customers like that. They just lost a steady customer. We drove from the other side of Va beach because we really like it there. But we probably won't be back anytime soon read more

I want to give this course 4 stars, but Andy The PGA professional at this golf course was completely unprofessional and rude to our entire group on our last hole. He began clapping his hands and yelling at us to get moving, claiming that the rest of us should be up on the course by our balls. He was insulting, rude and showed chauvinism to one of the women in our group. We aren't professional golfers. We were on a 25 dollar course, but he proceeded to insult our intelligence and told us we held people up on purpose. Of course we didn't, we were very curious and kind to all others on the course. The rest of the staff members are great here, the course is fun, but Andy sure could use a crash course on how to be a decent human being. I will never return to this golf course. Friendly staff, We were in town for vacation and found this place I called ahead and they had plenty of teetimes due to not the best weather. Nine holes and a cart was $17 which to me is reasonable. They had a decent pro shop I ended up buying a leather glove for $12. And they had sales on clothing. The course is located in the middle of town but enough so that you enjoy nature there was lots of ducks in herons they have water in sand traps. Although you won't ask see any Rollinghills it was challenging enough. In the first nine they have distances from 88 to 400 yds. Although we were there during the Covid pandemic they had accommodations for safe play. There were a few out houses as well as a building where you could use the flush restroom. Although some holes were a little confusing they were signage to point you in the correct direction they had tips and rules on each cart to assist as well. I would definitely go back to this community coursebut I m no pro golfer.-The did have a snack bar as well and you could call ahead from your cart instructions read more

Course in the worst shape I've ever seen it- all but 5 greens mostly unputtable, many fairways with spotty grass at best, like playing on a cow pasture. Had called first and asked specifically about course condition, was told that it was all in great shape. Absolutely not true, from the putting green on. No reduction in greens fees, as if all was great. Very disappointing, because it's a super layout, used to be so much fun to play, and should be better maintained. Come on, Norfolk! read more

I wish I could give this course a 4 or 5 because it is a cute course and the price for a round of 9 is under $30, which is always a bonus when you are visiting from out of town, and you would like to play a quick round. However, our experience was less than pleasant. The day started out well. It was busy and we were placed on hold before we could start our tee time because the course was running slow and previous tee times hadn't even teed off. We were not the fastest group but by far not the slowest. When asked to play through we politely allowed the group behind us to play through. When we got to the 8th tee, we tee'd off and proceeded to hop in our carts. That's when Andy Giles, the PGA master of the course/course marshall, started to yell at us and told us to move it. We weren't being obnoxious or socializing just enjoy our time. We just respond ok we are. At the next hole, he came up to us again and started to yell at us that we need to move it. That we should be standing by each of our balls waiting to hit. Which we proceed to tell him that there is no way we will stand in front of any balls while someone is hitting. It is not safe. He continued to yell at us and told us that we were breaking every rule and golf etiquette. Which, I am no amateur, I have played on several course and ones that are much nicer than this one, who have actually hosted PGA tournaments. Myself and my group are very aware of the etiquettes and rules of the game. I understand that there are people who are new and don't understand the rules and etiquette and that is when you politely come up, ask them to speed up and help them find ways to make their game faster. When I came up to the club house to complain about the harassment that we just received. He was in the club house and said he was the owner and the highest we could speak to. So we continued to tell him that we didn't break any rules, we allowed people to play through because our group was having a bad game, and how when he yelled at us there was no one on our heels. That his professionalism needed improvement and how he treated us was uncalled for. He continued to yell at us that we were breaking PGA rules and etiquette by taking two hits off the tee. Which I did, after my first ball went into the woods and I knew I couldn't find it. This didn't happen at every hole and PGA etiquette does say this is allowed. When I got frustrated, I did say are you f***ing kidding me, after continuously being insulted and that's when he proceeded to bark at his employee to call the cops. Not my best wording to use but the guy behind me who said the f-word was allowed to, but a "young lady" shouldn't say those words and warranted a call to the cops. I was shocked! His behavior was unacceptable and turned what was a fun day, into a bad one. I will never return to this course and don't recommend it to anyone. read more

I'll be honest. Three stars is a bit much but there is a lot of history here. After all, this is my home golf course. My home away from home. I still have many friends that play there and we still have a riot together even though I've moved on in my golf life. I used to work there years and years ago. I'd sweep the cart barn, vacuum the restaurant and clean the carts so I play free golf and gamble with the $35 I made cleaning golf clubs. Tiger Woods once stepped foot on this course and gave me a personal golf lesson. The write up still shows up on Google searches. So I came here the other day for a friendly afternoon match. Rates were good. I had a free pass but my buddies only payed $16 for all that we can play. I think typical rates are $20 after 5pm. The greens make the biggest difference with any golf course and unfortunately it was like putting your golf ball through a plinko board (It didn't stop my partner and me. We still shot five under par through 12 holes. Yours truly made four birdies and I had a three putt par.) I wasn't surprised with the condition of the course overall but then again when you come back "home" once or twice a year it sucks to see you track the way it is. Aside that the course was just like it always is. The regulars are there. My buddy is still cleaning the golf carts. The group that I used to roll with still has their afternoon matches. For golfers this is a locals hangout. The history that I have here gives this place the extra star. I go back there for the people. Greens make a difference but I'm no professional so does it really matter? I enjoy the camaraderie more than anything. Great place if you're new to golf. Even better for kids. read more

Golfed 18 holes here for 25 dollars yesterday afternoon. Starter and pro shop were both very nice and accommodating. The course was relatively empty and those that were ahead of me, let me play through (I was a single on vacation from New York). As for the course itself, definitely a bit on the short side, but I loved the layout. The front is 36 and the back is 34 for a par of 70. I never landed in a bunker, but they were always there on an approach shot and the water comes into play if you let it get in your head. I actually cleared the water in a short par 3 only to catch the slope of a hill and roll down into the pond. A few of the greens had those long slopes along side that you had to watch out for. No real penalty for being left or right off the tee except for a few water spots and maybe getting caught behind a tree(although I played to the green from off the fairway a LOT). The only knock on the course is the greens are definitely a bit rough and sandy, but they roll pretty well for their appearance. I definitely felt robbed a few times out there when a putt that would've rolled in back in Long Island came up short because of the sand. Either way, I shot an 86 (which is good for me) and had a relaxing time out there. For 25 bucks, would definitely play again! read more

One of the nicer courses in Norfolk. If the greens weren't in such terrible shape this course would be an easy 4 star location. Maybe it's just because when I played today we've had a few weeks of hot weather with no rain. Every other part of the course is kept up very well. They keep the water stations full of ice cold water, and it's nice to have actual restrooms on the course with working toilets and running water, not just outhouses. As far as the play goes. It's pretty short overall, but the short par 3 and 4 holes have treacherous greens surrounded by hazards so that makes it a little more challenging. Good rates and nice staff as well. read more

It breaks my heart to only give this course two stars. I used to play this track three to four days a week about ten years ago. However, it seems that Billy Casper golf has taken over this place and spent enough money on the course to add their logo to the sign and buy the staff new name tags with a buffalo on it. The major issue with this course has got to be the lack of any grass on the greens. I have played five rounds here so far in 2010 and their greens haven't improved at all. Some of the tees are in worse shape, I'll admit but you get the benefit of a tee, so I suppose the greens are a higher priority. The pace of play ranges from so-so to abysmal depending on the day. There is never any rangers on the course and the staff in the shop is merely adequate. The rates are fair for a course of this level, IF they had grass on the greens; as it stands though...2 stars for you!!! read more

Ocean View GC is a great value public course. Andy Giles has the course in the best shape I've seen. Nice par 3's that mix up club selection and some fun layouts on the par 4's and 5's. Easy to walk, and usually a good crowd on the course. read more

We just moved to the neighborhood and we're hoping to make this our "home course". All over the website they have links to book online, so I did. A thunderstorm rolled in during our tee time so I asked if we could get another tee time the following day, and not have to repay. I was then yelled at by the owner for not calling them, because "we don't make any money when you book online". Not really the customers problem, right?!? Is the burden of business to business transactions something I need to concern myself with? Suggestion: Probably shouldn't have links all over your website to book online if you in fact don't make any money off of it. Didn't golf there, and probably never will. read more

Guys when we checked in and paid said it was cool for me to drive along and hit a few balls here and there since I am still learning to golf and my husband is much better, but then staff met us on hole 4 and kicked us off the course for me taking a swing. This is a perfect example of a low-budget course with low-budget employees to match. I have played here for over 20 years and they can't seem to get it together. Today we had a round scheduled for 6:24am, arrived at the pro shop and my grandfather(83 years old) and his friend(88 years old) asked if it was cart paths only. Charles said no, it isn't cart paths only today. We paid for the round, put our clubs in the cart and then Charles walked out of the pro shop and said "hey fellas, I don't know if anyone's told you today but it's cart paths only." To make matters worse, he refused to refund our money due to his mistake, just offered two rain checks so we could play another time. I wouldn't recommend this course or any of the others run by this company. read more

Well, to be honest, not impressed. Had a friend in town and wanted to play somewhere close and Ocean View is close, so I booked a tee time. Got to the course and immediately knew it wasn't really what I was expecting. Not that I was expecting Pinehurst #2, but I always ask about the course condition before I make a tee time and I was told it was in excellent shape. I guess I should have been more specific and asked if the greens roll more than a 4! We were told that there was a beer cart on the course, never saw that. I guess when you here the history of Tiger Woods having been there and Billy Casper's name on it, you have a higher expectation. I think the potential is there, Billy Casper just needs to actually get involved, not just put his name on it and cash the checks. Perfect example of how great marketing can kill a bad business. Greens were very slow, tee boxes terrible and fairways were 2 stars. With a little focus on the tee boxes and the greens, this course would be a great track for the price. If you're just starting or have kids and want to let them have fun, this is great place to not feel intimidated or pressured. read more

First off, I had to give it one star in order to write this review. How to explain old OV golf course....well, DOG TRACK comes to mind, or maybe cow pasture. This is by far the worse course in all of Hampton Roads with the one exception of Bow Creek (which is managed by the same company). The greens have been vertical cut, again! Was done last year and they where almost back in shape after 6 months...and they did it again. Who is the idiot that allows that to happen, twice?? Look through the pictures and you can see the greens with the ridges. It has been years since a decent putt was found on the OV greens. The fairways are patchy at best. There are some decent areas of fairways the brings some hope that this course is getting better, but then there is another hole. The sand traps are hit or miss. You might find yourself in a trap with decent sand and racked for use OR you can be lying on hard pan with zero sand. The staff, especially the GM, are rude and indifferent as to the shape of the course. "You use the internet to pay and we don't make any money. What do you expect to get for $20." Also no driving range. They have a very small area to hit some balls but you need to bring your own balls and then hit 150 yards or less. Overpriced drinks and food that is nothing to write home about. Over all...this course is a real D O G ! ! ! read more

This was the worst golf experience I've ever had. The course itself is really Sandy. The starter was very kind and the only pleasant person there. The "manager" was horribly mean. She was rude and disrespectful. She didn't agree with a couple extra kids (ages 10 and 13) that were golfing with us and made us split our groups up. She followed is around the whole 18 wholes to make sure we weren't playing together. Whoever the manager is needs to be fired and they need a new one. I will not return or put any money into this pathetic excuse of a golf course. read more

Played the Ocean View Snowman tournament today and was told entry fee included the round, beer, food and give a ways. I was baffled at the low end operation. The refreshment cart came by once after we had finished 12 holes, and charged for everything, beer, soda, water, crackers even though everyone on the course was in the tournament. After completing the round they provided chicken soup, another soup and canned beer, anything else, sodas, water, hotdogs, etc had to be paid for separately. The final insult was the raffle, the table selling tickets in the morning had golf bags, hats, balls and golf towels on it but when they actually pulled the raffle tickets they gave away the golf bags and stopped drawing tickets. When I asked what happened to the other stuff on the raffle ticket table I was told "That was a joke", seems like the joke was on us who payed for the tournament. If you play in a tournament here make sure you get a clear description of what they really mean verse what they say. read more

Under the previous management the course had been run into the ground. As a member I did not want to even play there. Under the new contractor things have gotten a lot better. New equipment and proper maintenance over the growing season has been rewarded. The greens have made a remarkable comeback, they have trimmed trees and are trying to steadily improve the course over time. If you have not been out to play, you should give it a try. read more
