When the tide is out there's what seems like miles of sandy beach to explore, dig, splash and play in. When it comes back in, theres miles of shallow, warm water to swim, wade and dive in. And it's all surrounded by nature, with eagles soaring overhead, mountain views across the water and classic BC driftwood-lined shores. Until you go to the southern part of th beach, that is, where it's lined with a whole bunch of beachfront resorts. So at easter, when we felt like getting out of the city but weren't quite brave enough to camp, I thought of those resorts and got googling. I ended up choosing Beach Acres because it was reasonably priced, was one of the closest to the less-developed northern part of the beach and because it seemed to be less densely developed, offering more space to relax and let the kids loose when the beach wasn't an option. My hunch paid off - it turned out to be a great place to stay and was extremely good value for the price. They have all the basic stuff you need for a family getaway - including pool, basketball hoops, 3 tennis courts, a playground, bike rental and plenty of open space. The cabin we were in was very well appointed and although each one is privately owned, I got the impression that they all met similar standards. Plus, it has an English pub-style restaurant on the property that is one of what appears to be very few decent places to eat in Parksville. If you're looking for pampering at a spa getway, this isn't the place for you, but if you want a great fun family break it's ideal.

I found this bed and breakfast on hotels.com and it had rave reviews. I had no idea what to expect as B&Bs can truly be hit or miss (I've stayed in many throughout the world). Boy were my husband and I pleasantly surprised. Not only is this B&B adorable, but it's also quiet, owned by an amazing and kind couple (Angelo and Jayne), is extremely clean, comfortable, and perfectly located. Jayne was so sweet and made sure we had everything we needed. She explained the house and the amenities thoroughly upon check-in and provided excellent service without being overbearing which I loved. Great service for sure. We received a key to our room and also a key to the front door so we could come and go as we pleased. There was a little sitting/common area in the entry that they always left a nightlight on so we weren't lost in the dark coming back to the hotel. Jayne also had a mini fridge in the common area full of bottled water, and she even tucked some milk in there for my tea. Our room was very spacious with a king sized bed, full bathroom, TV, and a gas fireplace on a thermostat control. Everything was meticulously cleaned and we felt so comfortable and relaxed. Jayne let us know that whatever time we preferred to have breakfast would be perfect for them. Upon awaking after our first night (which we slept like the dead in our cozy and quiet room), we walked through the main part of the house to the dining area where Angelo made us an amazing breakfast. The spread was amazing and right from meeting both Jayne and Angelo you can tell they are very passionate about serving people. My only complaint is that we were only there for 36 hours and I wish we could have stayed longer! Great great place to stay if you are heading to Qualicum Beach or the surrounding area. As other reviewers have said there is never any pool towels so keep that in mind. The gym isn't a…read moreplace where I would work out it overlooks the pool and that's where people go in soaking wet to grab towels. The phone in there doesn't work to ask for more. Staff doesn't come often to refill. We stayed there 4 days and used the pool at least once a day and often shared a towel. There aren't enough toiletries in the room we ran out of toilet paper and towels quickly. There were sugar ants on the bathroom and we told front desk and nothing was done. Also there is a fire ban during most of the summer but only wood fire pits so we can use them. It would be better if there was a propane fire pit so they could be used all year round. I would have loved to sit by a fire. The rooms are very hot no central air so you will need to use the portable air conditioner and a small fan in the bedroom so you can sleep. Overall it's a good price for a one bedroom with a kitchen but you get what u pay for.

A mini kitchen if you want to cook, otherwise The Beachhouse Restaurant and patio is right beside. Its literally right on the beach, the ocean at high tide hits the Inn's cement breakwater. Shallow and warm for summertime swimming, chaise lounges at the edges for relaxing. A crashing surf through the night's high tide was good to sleep to. I really loved it - just lazing in the water and watching the sun set on the balcony. Friendly, family owned. Good value and a comfortable room. I'll be back . . .

We rented a "Cypress" cottage for three nights via Expedia for late December, so this is a winter…read morereview. Our rental was owned by the resort (as opposed to being owned by an individual, which some cottages are). We found our rental very homey. It was spacious and layed out in such a way as to allow independent activities in different rooms that didn't impact the other person. The "resort" in mid-winter was quiet. The cottages are arranged close together, and it's easy to look into the windows next door. It's a tolerant jaunt to the beach and Rathtrevor Provincial Park, though not ADA accessible. If ADA access is needed to get to the beach, drive to the park from the resort (about one mile). The beach and park are outstanding in winter. The resort staff were very helpful and downright chipper. When we checked in, they kindly and patiently explained what was to us a unique style of accommodation (cottage rentals in a resort). Complaints and concerns expressed during our stay were graciously received, also. The kitchen was very good; plenty of accouterments and appliances. Note that the only food in the kitchen was salt and pepper. Bring spare paper towels and napkins. Washer and dryer worked great, and included one load's detergent. Bring detergent. The fireplace was either on or off, no adjustments. It heated the cottage quickly. We never figured out any of the three televisions' remotes, which didn't matter b/c we didn't want to watch TV. Could have been fresh batteries were needed; spares are recommended, as we changed the dead ones in the cottage clock. Beds were okay, with plenty of blankets. Bathrooms were fine with plenty of linens. Lots of closet and dresser space. Great layout in the cottage; very easy to move around.

After checkout, we got a bill for not stripping the beds, cleaning up and doing dishes. At no time were we told at booking that we would be charged for not cleaning up. This is first resort to charge you for not telling you that you will be charged. Definitely Not Going Back. We go to a resort to relax, Not to do housework!
