We're big fans of Rathtrevor Beach. We've visited the provincial park campground a few times now,…read morebut the beach itself is the real star. When the tide is out there's what seems like miles of sandy beach to explore, dig, splash and play in. When it comes back in, theres miles of shallow, warm water to swim, wade and dive in. And it's all surrounded by nature, with eagles soaring overhead, mountain views across the water and classic BC driftwood-lined shores. Until you go to the southern part of th beach, that is, where it's lined with a whole bunch of beachfront resorts. So at easter, when we felt like getting out of the city but weren't quite brave enough to camp, I thought of those resorts and got googling. I ended up choosing Beach Acres because it was reasonably priced, was one of the closest to the less-developed northern part of the beach and because it seemed to be less densely developed, offering more space to relax and let the kids loose when the beach wasn't an option. My hunch paid off - it turned out to be a great place to stay and was extremely good value for the price. They have all the basic stuff you need for a family getaway - including pool, basketball hoops, 3 tennis courts, a playground, bike rental and plenty of open space. The cabin we were in was very well appointed and although each one is privately owned, I got the impression that they all met similar standards. Plus, it has an English pub-style restaurant on the property that is one of what appears to be very few decent places to eat in Parksville. If you're looking for pampering at a spa getway, this isn't the place for you, but if you want a great fun family break it's ideal.

had a wonderful stay at beach acres have been there twice on holiday, execellent resort ,nice pool…read morethe cottages are right on the beach. The cottages are very roomy we had four in our party and it was not crowded ,all the cottages have fireplaces and the upper ones have a beauiful view of the beach, will go back for sure!!

If you are visiting Nanaimo for a few days or if you are a local looking for a relaxing weekend,…read morethis is a must go place! The resort is beautifully situated with a lot of amenities like an outdoor hot tub (open till 11pm), a fireplace that you can book for free and free parking! I rented the town house which sleeps 6 people (2 bedrooms and 1 pull-out couch). The place was super cozy and came with a BBQ set in the backyard. The backyard was a garden connecting 2 other town houses and was very well maintained! We also saw so many bunnies hopping around it was super cute. The staff were super friendly and very easily accessible. We were allowed to use the hot tub and packing space even before our check-in time which was great! Since we went during the Easter weekend, they also had an Easter egg hunt for all guests which was so fun! The town house was very well maintained and came with laundry, dish washers, microwave, ovens and utensils. 5/5 experience!

Great place for families! Booked a 1-bedroom suite and it's…read moreso nice to have the extra space. Full kitchen and laundry! Single-use supply of detergent provided so bring your own for longer stays. Each unit has their own BBQ. 2-bedroom options available. One thing to be aware of is that if you're not in the main building, you need to carry your bags up stairs if assigned to a non-ground floor unit. We had a ground level unit which was awesome to walk out from - kiddo could use the patio and central area like a backyard. Upper units have balconies. Pool area was contained. Cons: - Very weak wi-fi. I basically used data the whole stay. (We were in the 200 building) - Gym has older equipment and is not temperature controlled. It's positioned to look out at the pool. Nice in theory, but it's crazy hot once the afternoon sun hits and goes though the all glass front. Combined with no A/C, the gym is basically intolerable from afternoon to early evening. - no on-site dining. Closest restaurant is Cedars at Tigh Na Mara next door Overall a good stay for families, with some areas for improvement.

We rented a "Cypress" cottage for three nights via Expedia for late December, so this is a winter…read morereview. Our rental was owned by the resort (as opposed to being owned by an individual, which some cottages are). We found our rental very homey. It was spacious and layed out in such a way as to allow independent activities in different rooms that didn't impact the other person. The "resort" in mid-winter was quiet. The cottages are arranged close together, and it's easy to look into the windows next door. It's a tolerant jaunt to the beach and Rathtrevor Provincial Park, though not ADA accessible. If ADA access is needed to get to the beach, drive to the park from the resort (about one mile). The beach and park are outstanding in winter. The resort staff were very helpful and downright chipper. When we checked in, they kindly and patiently explained what was to us a unique style of accommodation (cottage rentals in a resort). Complaints and concerns expressed during our stay were graciously received, also. The kitchen was very good; plenty of accouterments and appliances. Note that the only food in the kitchen was salt and pepper. Bring spare paper towels and napkins. Washer and dryer worked great, and included one load's detergent. Bring detergent. The fireplace was either on or off, no adjustments. It heated the cottage quickly. We never figured out any of the three televisions' remotes, which didn't matter b/c we didn't want to watch TV. Could have been fresh batteries were needed; spares are recommended, as we changed the dead ones in the cottage clock. Beds were okay, with plenty of blankets. Bathrooms were fine with plenty of linens. Lots of closet and dresser space. Great layout in the cottage; very easy to move around.

We stayed here in the summer of 2017. The interior of the cottage was pretty nice, but definitely…read moreon the smaller side. The owner was a little anal about how clean we had to keep the cottage -- this led to us being a little stressed out the whole time about being meticulously tidy (the owner probably just pockets the "cleaning fee" to be honest). The indoor pool on the property was kind of strange. The pool itself was nice, but it was quite muggy and unpleasant in the building. One pro is that it is in a very close proximity to the beach and the fun parks. We might consider staying here again.

Also known as French Creek Cottages and Suites. There is nothing cottagey or sweet about this…read moreplace. Rustic is one thing, this is dilapiated. Nothing beats pulling up to your $200 a night cottage & a truck is parked out front, while the fellow is painting outside the bedroom window. He must had left his soda can and partial bottle of engine oil on our rotting unswept deck. Nice touch. This is going to be harsh. Unless you like the smell of mold/mildew penitrating so bad that the smell is on your clothes after you return home, even the clothes you didnt take out of your suitcase! And dont mind spiders in your stinky banana shaped mattress (undoubtedly unchanged for the last 3 decades or so), or you dont mind that your window locks are broken, (oh and no screens for the friendly Yellow jackets) and the shower is so worn and gross you wish that you were tent camping instead. Welcome to French Creek Cottages, well to be fair the one we stayed in excepted dogs. We asked for a cottage that excepted dogs not a dog cottage. Honestly it was horrible. Not sure how the other places were but being that it was July 18th weekend, peak season and they still had plenty of vacanies that could be a sign. They have some nerve charging $200 for a $55 motel. This is coming from well seasoned travelers who feel as comfortable in a 5 start hotel as in a 2 man tent with no facilities near by. One word that describes this place is NASTY! Few words of caution from Dennis and Sharon.

According to the timeshare rating system, Pacific Shores is a gold crown resort. I call hot…read morefestering bull corn on this rating system. In short, here are the pros and cons of my stay: Pros: *Free Wifi, as long as you are in the right areas or else you have no connection. *Outdoor Mineral Rock Hot Tub - nice and hot, relaxing however one of the jets continually make annoying "clogged up" noises. The front desk never has keys to the outside pools and you have to check out keys at the store desk. *Excellent water views along the bay trails and free use of kayaks. Cons *Indoor Environment - Stuffy lobby and rooms due to no air conditioning and no form of ventilation. The rooms do not have any views or windows, only a sliding door at the end that do not provide any airflow. Not comfortable at all and it always feels like something is crawling on you; the worst feeling you can have at a hotel. *Inside Pool and Hot Tub - hot tub is not even warm. They should call it the cold tub. *The Landing Restaurant - you have to see my review. Not very happy about my experience there. *Service -hit and miss service. When you ask one person, they will say there is an extra charge or they don't provide. Ask a different person and you will get accommodated and taken care of. Then the same two folks later will "flip the script" and turn Jeckyl and Hyde and surprise you. Very frustrating. *Shower and provided toiletries fail to give you a "clean" feeling. Serious attention needed here to clean, regrout and recaulk the bathtub walls. Unacceptable. Disappointed but the Hot Tub and the proximity to Parksville and destinations planned for the trip definitely helped.

Spent New Years here with family, didn't do the spa so my review is on the hotel, restaurant, pool,…read moreand grounds. Upon arrival to the "resort" one is left feeling underwhelmed as the buildings are tired! It desperately needs an update and they should get decent tradespeople to do said update. There's obviously been some attempt at a "splash n dash" paint job because there are paint spills absolutely everywhere. The patios and walkways to the units are in desperate need of a pressure washing....moss everywhere! Our unit was the kitchenette with the back suite adjoined (our family group took three of these). Upon entry to our unit we noticed the carpet had not been vacuumed. Further walk through proved that the dishes had not been properly cleaned, a tea pod was left in the coffee maker, the stove and microwave felt greasy plus the sinks all had soap residue left in them....just filthy! The bed sheets were fresh, however no additional bedding available for the pullout couch, luckily we brought sleeping bags for the kids. The unit itself was very sad: wallpaper either peeling off or scratched. The paint job in the bathroom looked to have been done by a four year old. I've stayed in roadside motels that were ten times nicer than this place. In fact had we not been part of a large family group I would have cancelled our stay and demanded our money back. The "suites" themselves are poorly constructed and very noisy. The restaurant, although a nice selection on the menu, was less than subpar. I had fish tacos and the taco shells were stale. During the prep of our meal I witnessed the head cook lick her fingers then proceed to touch and prepare others food without washing her hands....ick! The pool was decent enough but like the rest of the place in need of some serious maintenance and renewal...rusty handrails, dirty tiles etc. The only nice thing about this place are the grounds. Nice view and nice walking for beach. Another reviewer had mentioned nice place for kids....I'd disagree as kids seem to be more of an afterthought here. Would I recommend this place? If you want to part with hard earned money for a poor nights sleep, stale and pre-tasted meals, throw out a hip from slipping on dirty algae covered vinyl walks, plus swim with rust to increase your iron deficiency....then this is the place for you! Seriously, I would not recommend this place. Also like to mention that when it came time to check out, we weren't even asked if we enjoyed our stay....it's almost like they know that their hotel is lacking.
