We enjoyed stopping in here to change a watch battery. It was around 3pm Saturday when we visited. There is an eclectic collection of clocks and watches around the place. We were the only customers present and the proprietor quickly changed the battery for a reasonable price, and we were on our way. Ocean Time saved me once again. Packing for a month-long international trip, I realized my wristwatch wasn't working so popped by the shop my last afternoon in town. Owner Don Pham quickly assessed that the 15-year-old Swiss Army stainless steel watch needed a new motor as well as battery. Fortunately he had time to do it (and at very reasonable cost, which he fully explained to me). I picked it up at 4. Got home and realized the band was too tight (hadn't worn a watch since the pandemic). Scurried back to the shop and Mr. Pham added my extra links just before closing. My hero! Mr. Don (the shop owner) is a breath of fresh air. He is honest, personable, and a very skilled watch mechanic. Mr. Don has been in business for over 20 years (and has even more years of experience). I'm glad to have found Ocean time and will be a repeat customer for many years to come. I came in today for a small issue with one of watches that needed servicing and they were able to diagnose and fix my watch within a few hours time, quicker than any close by shop had quoted me. When I came to pick up my watch, Mr. Don took the time to share with me what exactly was wrong with my piece, and how he remedied the issue, as well as sharing a bit of history as to the movement of the watch and how it functioned. I can tell he truly cares about his customers and business as he went above and beyond in making sure my watch functioned properly and also taking the time to chat with me about horology and sharing his passion for watches. He also showed me his personal collection as well as rare stock he had for sale - some of the pieces were more than 100 years old! Went in for a on-the-spot battery replacement. Took 10 min - quality, quick service! Definitely impressed. Unfortunately he doesn't have a watertight tester for those water resistant/waterproof watches to remain so, but for normal watches this is a great place to go. read more

It makes me so happy a place like this exists in Encinitas. I feel like time stands still in this place...no pun intended, if that is even a pun. It has this awesome small town feel that reminds me of the little shops I've stopped in on road trips in the middle of Kansas. Like Naila said, the owner is extremely knowledgeable and fast and repairs are fairly priced. I've brought several watches to him and he always fixes them on the spot. It can't get any better than that! If you go in there, be sure to check out the desk he's got behind the counter where he does his repairs. I love the aged look of it and all his family photos there. Super sweet man working there when I brought my watch in. It was near the end of the business day, but he still patiently worked on my watch. Even though it was not an easy feat, he delivered. Apparently they mark the date of battery so they know how long it was lasted. Typically for my watch it lasts ~1 years, and it lasted 1.5, so I was a happy camper. :) $15 for my particular battery but a small price to pay for the quality of work. Also, they do "tune-ups" so your watch runs better so I would recommend that if you have a high-end watch (i.e. Rolex, Omega, Raymond Weil., etc.). :) read more

Walked in around noon to get a wrist watch battery replaced. Gentleman behind the counter quickly got to the replacement and was able to finish it in five minutes. In addition he was able to give the watch a quick clean. Whole process probably took under 10 minutes and was done for $15. read more

Exceptional service. I had to get a few watch links taken out of my new ceramic watch. The guy took them out swiftly and carefully. This was a particularly complicated watch band, and I was amazed he did it so fast. Cost = $10. He is closed on Mondays FYI. And open weekdays (and weekends?) 11am-5pm. read more

I am not a regular, habitual reviewer of anything, but I feel compelled to post this review b/c of my experience. We all see pretty much only very positive reviews and very negative ones on Yelp, Amazon, Costco, etc. Here's a negative. Caveat Emptor. I purchased a New Old Stock quartz watch on eBay and after wearing it playing tennis it fogged inside the crystal. My experience is that it needed a new seal or silicone on the existing seal inside the case back. I called Ocean Time and he agreed w/ my diagnosis and said that he would charge $20 and there would be no guarantee that he would fix the problem. Since I did not have the appropriate tool to remove the case back and apply silicone myself I decided to take it in. I asked if I needed an appointment and he said there was no need. So I went in around 1PM on a Thursday. The appearance of the store should have sent me back out the door. Dirty, sloppy, dusty. But I figured well I'm here so give it a shot. He told me to come back in 1/2 hour. There was no one else in the store and he was not working on anything at the time. I have had this work done on a different watch in the past and it took the watchmaker 5 minutes to do it. Oh well, I'm here so I'll look around downtown Encinitas. I return in 1/2 hour and he's not there and the shop is closed. I went in the shop next door to see if they knew anything about this and they told me he would be back soon. Another 15 mins and he is back. I go in and pay for the repair. No apology for keeping me waiting. The next day I played tennis again w/ the watch on and it fogged again. Very disappointed w/ the customer service and skill demonstrated. I figure that the only reason this place is still in business is its location. I'll never return and I advise anyone who asks to never take their watch there. I really do not understand how this place has so many positive reviews. read more

This is the only place I have taken my watches to repair and service for the last 10 years. I have also referred many family members and friends and we have had nothing but absolute satisfaction at incredible prices. Don is very knowledgable and can fix just about any thing you take to him :) He even stocks some incredible vintage and previously owned watches at very good prices which are worth checking. I bought a limited edition Xenex swiss watch from him in mint condition a few month ago. Do not waste your time taking your watch to any other place for battery replacement or repair. I love this place. There aren't too many "mom and pop" businesses anymore but this place makes me yearn for simpler times. The service is fast, friendly and fair. I always go here to have the battery replaced in my watch but today I encountered a particularly difficult task of removing tiny screws from a garage door remote. Since I am impatient...I tried to do it myself first and stripped one of the screws. Don went to work for about ten minutes, replaced all the screws and had me back in business.
