Oceans Horizons Scuba is really one of the best dive groups and instructors in the NYC area. A couple years ago I decided this would be the summer that I would get my scuba certification and like many others I looked up shops in manhattan and then narrowed it down to a couple and decided to go online and read the reviews which lead me out of the city and into Brooklyn and Paul, Jimmie, and Scott. After reading many reviews on how great OHS is and how personal the reviewers stories were on their experiences with OHS, I decided they were definitely who I was going to get my certification with. And I was not disappointed!!! Now 2 years later and several scuba trips in with the OHS family it's time I wrote my own review on just how wonderful learning to dive with this group really is. Their approach to safety and fun in your certification courses is outstanding. And then after when you decide to take a trip with them they really make you feel a part of the OHS family. If it's your first diving trip you will feel extremely comfortable and safe knowing that you are with master divers and instructors that truly care how you're doing and want to make sure you are a self sufficient diver and will work with you over the course of the trip in building your confidence in yourself as a developing diver. The trips normally include several people that have been diving with OHS for many, many years and they too will open up and give you pointers and tips to use as you develop your own diving routine. Their stories are fascinating and really everyone on all of their trips truly care about each other and the welfare of the group. If you go on one of their trips you will have a great time and you are guaranteed to meet some amazing people. For myself, I have made some life long friends and each trip has broadened my horizons as a diver and an individual. I feel very fortunate that I decided to take a chance with Paul, Jimmie, and Scott that summer 2 years ago and can not speak highly enough of how great they are as instructors and then friends and fellow divers. If you want to get the most out of your diving certification and then diving experiences thereafter this is a great group to align yourself with. You will not be disappointed! Thank you Paul, Jimmie! And Scott for everything! Can not wait to dive with you guys again!!

My wife and I had talked about trying scuba diving for years and she surprised me with classes for my birthday last year (BEST. GIFT. EVER.) She and her sister are obsessive researchers and planners, and after hours of online searching, it was decreed that Ocean Horizons was the place to learn. They could not have been more right. Paul and Jimmie are excellent instructors, incredibly knowledgeable (they should be, they've been diving for over 30 years), warm and friendly, impossibly patient, and just all-around fun people to be around. Their prices are insanely low compared to some other places (so much so that I was a bit wary at first), and there is absolutely ZERO pressure to buy ANY equipment from them. Other places make you buy gear before you start, anything from fins, snorkel, and a mask, all the way up to a wetsuit and regulator at some places. We did our pool sessions with them at Fort Hamilton high-school, and when you start out just sitting at the bottom of a pool breathing is a phenomenal experience. You will learn skills beyond those needed for the checkout dives (removing and replacing gear underwater, swapping masks with others underwater, maybe even a headspin) which makes for a lot of fun, but more importantly raises your confidence and makes the checkout skills seem much less intimidating. Jimmie even managed to make the classroom sessions fun and interesting, and I hate classrooms. If you are very lucky he will try to draw something on the whiteboard. If you need more pool or classroom time, they provide it, at no charge. We did our checkout dives in Key Largo, as I had a trip to Miami planned right after we finished the pool and classwork. The outfit we dove with was great, but we did get to experience an instructor with a very different style from Paul and Jimmie's, and it made us appreciate them all the more. We went with them on their last trip to Cozumel in early December 2010, and I have never had a better vacation. Drift diving is like flying over an alien planet inhabited by alien creatures. Mind-blowing. Paul and Jimmie are great to be around, the people who go on trips with them (many are repeat customers) are great to be around, and they dig up the best value dive trips out there. We love these guys, consider them friends, and are looking forward to many more years of diving and learning with them.

From the beginning she was helpful, informative, professional, and set me up with everything I needed to get started. After finishing my exam through PADI, I scheduled my pool sessions with Nicole. I knew from the jump that I was in great hands. Her and her team took the time to go over everything I needed to know, and then some. They answered every question I had with great detail. There wasn't a single moment I felt uncomfortable. Superdive Scuba creates a seriously awesome learning environment. I chose to do the open water dive part of my certification in the Bahamas, but I can't stress enough how prepared I felt going into these dives. The instructors at the dive shop were impressed by how much I already knew as a beginner, thank you Nicole and team! Nicole has also helped me navigate the (very confusing to a beginner) world of SCUBA gear. When you're starting out you definitely want an instructor who will remain a resource to you as you progress. I found that with Superdive. Looking forward to joining some dive trips and ocean clean ups with this group!

Unfortunately, I hadn't been diving in 30 years! I called the folks at Scuba Network and everyone I engaged with was extremely accommodating. They helped me sign up for an eLearning refresher course and encouraged me to grab the last spot in an upcoming beginner's, in-person, 2-day pool dive to reacquaint myself with the gear and familiarize myself with some new technology since I last dove (goodbye dive tables, hello dive computers!). They equipped me with all the regular gear and even helped me pick out a scuba mask with reading bifocals when I told them after the first day that I couldn't read my gauges. (Yes, bifocal masks are a thing!) Ryan Hoffman, my dive instructor, was fantastic. He was patient, easy-to-understand, thorough, and kept things moving well. He also didn't miss a thing. If someone seemed nervous during an underwater exercise, he was right there to put them at ease and help them master it. If someone didn't clear their mask of water fully, he had them try again until they crushed it. At every step he was enabling us to know how to do for ourselves because in Scuba, though it's a buddy sport, you don't want to leave the details to anyone else -- you're safest when you are self-sufficient. Within days, I felt as confident about scuba diving as I did 30 years ago when I got certified -- no, actually, I felt more confident! I can't wait to get back in the open water now, and I'm even considering getting my kids to take up this past time so we can go as a family. If so, I'll take them to Scuba Network to learn!

The boat ride out to Tiger Beach was spent doing boat briefing/dive site briefing then free-form discussion of sharks and other interesting ocean creatures. Vin and Deb were knowledgeable about the Bahamas, Tiger Beach and other sites, scuba in its many forms, and conservation. Since I was the only guest, the conversation was fast and furious. At the last minute, following suggestions from my hosts, I decided to dive in an old wetsuit and not in the stealth suit that I had been wanting to try out. My plan was to follow all instructions, interact authentically with every creature that might approach me, and use my own wild animal experience and instinct to assess my comfort and safety as my time underwater progressed. I wore a hood and booties and gloves, to minimize the areas of contrast between the dark neoprene and my skin - possibly an attractant for sharks. I kept my head on a swivel, scanning constantly in all directions to make sure that a large predator was not sneaking up on me for a closer look or a nibble. I was calm throughout, and I was aware that my two guides were keeping their eye on me as well. During the surface interval, we compared notes as to who we had seen and what their names were (I met Emma the tiger shark and Scylla the hammerhead shark who was impressively longer but not as robust). They even gave me a picture for my facebook profile. I would highly recommend EPIC DIVING because of their knowledge, experience, safety awareness, and caring about the sea and its inhabitants. This is not an inexpensive trip, and, as in many ventures, one gets what one pays for. One flies into Grand Bahama, the oldest town and capital of the island, then takes a taxi to the West End where one may stay in a beautifully-appointed hotel right on the water, a few feet from the dock. I very much enjoyed my drive from the airport to the hotel with a local who knew everything and everybody. I will absolutely explore again with EPIC DIVING - hope to see you there.
