Absolutely a ton of fun. I've now gone out with the Midnight Fleet twice, once on the Captain Midnight and once on the Midnight Star, and both occasions were awesome. Of course, it helps to have great company too and it makes for great group gatherings. Our trips were courtesy of a Groupon deal that is always available, so check out Groupon if you ever want to go out on a fishing trip on the cheap! On my most recent trip out on the Midnight Star, we left the dock at 8:30am on the dot and came back to shore around 4pm. If you don't have a rod, you can rent one for $5 from the crew. They also have a $5 buy-in pool for who catches the largest fish during a trip out to see, which always make it fun. As for food and drinks, it's BYO-everything (food, snacks, water, beer), so bring whatever you like short of hard alcohol. For the bathrooms, just be warned that it's not the most pleasant bathrooms, but they do the job for quick nature calls. Both crews were professional and extremely helpful to anyone in need or beginners. If you need help to reel in your fish, take your fish off the hook or just something as simple as untying knots in your tackle they are always there for you. Also, at the end of each trip, they help people filet their fish at a small fee. The boats were packed both times we went out, so make sure to get to the dock a good hour before they leave so that you get a good seat or your group gets seats together on the boat as it's first-come, first-serve. The captain and crew of this place is great. I went on a full day fishing trip from 8:30am-2:30pm. The boat didnt catch much fish for the whole time - probably only 3-4 fishes and no keepers for the whole 6 hours. Instead of turning back when the time is up, the captain was nice enough to extend the trip for an extra 1.5 hours for free. We started getting keepers at the last hour. Kudos to him! The boat is a lot dirtier and run down than others in the pier. The ladies' toilet does not flush and there is no water. There are also a couple of oddball characters that seem to be regulars playing cards and gambling at the back of the boat. We occasionally catch a scent of weed coming from there - not the best place to bring kids. If that doesn't bother you, I'd pick this place over others for their crew. read more

There are so many fishing boats to choose from...unless you're a pro and know who's who and what's what...which do you choose?! Thank you Living Social. I've always been hesitant with the fishing boats...you never know if they'll rip you off or just might not want to deal with plain rudeness. While the crew here isn't exactly Uncle Jack's waiter material, they're still pretty good. They're friendly, in a rugged kind of way, and service is pretty good. The captain even stayed out a little later for us because people began to start catching "keepers". People here have complained about "cleanliness"...It's a fishing boat...with fish...and bait...and fishing-type people...how "clean" do you really want it? I don't see fish guts or dead things anywhere so it's plenty clean to me! With this said, I'd give this place a try again. Oh, on this trip..all I caught were 2 claims, a mussel, and a fluke that's way too small... *sigh* read more

This can be hard-core fishing. It it not always pretty, or clean like most yachts, but the captain put us on fish most of the day. Jigging and some people dunking bunker for blues, over 100, a few dogsharks and even a keeper fluke were taken on board. Went on the evening "magic hour" fishing trip with Captain Jeff and his first mate - nothing but great things to say about the both of them! The fishing was a bit slow at first but they did their best to make sure we found the fish - and we did! They truly went out of their way to make the experience memorable, from giving my buddy and I a refresher on baitcasting rods to helping us with rigging. You can't beat the rates for this kind of a trip. I was lucky to catch some fish - but even if I didn't, I still would have had a wonderful time. Just being on a boat in the ocean during this difficult time is a blessing, and I'm glad there are boats like this still running fishing trips. I have been going to him for years now and he really cares about people catching fish I usually go with my brother in law and father and we have a blast every time . We just went the Thursday before Father's Day and my brother in law and I caught around 10 each but had 7 keepers each . My father in law won the boat pool with the biggest ling fish. I love when they go porgy fishing my personal best was 26 in the evening boat ride. We come from Long Island to BK and it's worth the trip every time. The other fishing boat places in Freeport, cap tree, and port Washington don't compare to this. Captain Jeff we will be back next week!!! read more

Unfortunately I do not have much good to say about the experience. 1. Zero social distancing and covid-19 measures are being taken. Rather than limiting booking, they have full boats of people going out and it is not possible to socially distance. While they offer masks, they do not enforce wearing it. There was sanitizer on board. There were no temperature checks or covid questionnaires to make sure people arent experiencing any symptoms or didn't recently travel to high risk places. None of the crew wore masks. 2. Water was very choppy today when we went out, and at least 15 people on board became very ill, my husband included. Despite seeing that and despite his crew members asking him to to try to do something differently, the captain refused and continued to push through extremely rough water. I heard the workers on the boat telling each other that they told the captain but he wouldnt listen and that he was being stubborn. Of the 7 hours boat ride, he finally went to calm water for the last 1 hour after torturing the people on board for 6 hours. He could have easily gone to calmer water after seeing how many people felt sick and how rough conditions were outside, at least for 3 of the 7 hours. Once in calm waters all of perked up and were finally able to fish but he rushed us from location to location after that, so we barely got to fish for that last hour. 3. Despite some people being unwell, other people were allowed to walk around smoking. This is a public charter and I feel smoking should be prohibited considering other passengers may have asthma or other health conditions where smoke from cigarettes can exacerbate that. It also is very hard to bear the smell when you're feeling sea sick. Fishing is easy and fun, I only got to do about 20 minutes before I began feeling very sick because of the rough water, and then another 20 at the end. So 40 minutes of a 7 hour trip. I would do it with another company next time. This was not a pleasant experience for us nor does it seem safe given the lack of measures taken for the pandemic--which no matter how much people want to deny is still very much happening. read more

Captain Jeff and his team were amazing. Never fished before, so I had a lot of questions. Prior to the trip, Captain Jeff was extremely professional and kind when answering my questions by phone. Found him to be very personable and professional from the first moment we interacted. Selected the 5pm boat ride on a Friday evening, rented the fishing rods from him and purchased a dozen bloodworms from the store right next to pier one since someone suggested that was better bait than the shrimp bait provided on the boat. Less than 15 people total on board, everyone was socially distant - i felt comfortable and we had a great time. His assistant (also named Jeff, so down to earth and helpful) gave us a crash course on how to bait and fish and we caught 18 porgies total! They offered to scale and clean them at the end, for a very small fee. The sunset and scenic views were amazing. Don't expect bells and whistles on the boat itself, if you're looking to just have a good time, see great views and simply enjoy actually fishing - this is your trip hands down. read more

Excellent fishing for some fall porgies and seabass on the midnight thanks to captain Jeff. Him and his mates made an amazing experience for us. The captain continuously put us on fish and re positioning the boat if needed. We caught over 70 fish and half of my friends were beginners. Captain Jeff and the whole crew were literally fantastic and so nice. I went on the boat this past Sunday, the 23rd, and literally had the time of my life. I was running late on the subway and was not going to make the 830 boat, but I called and he was polite enough to wait for me for an additional 10 minutes. You can't get more polite than Captain Jeff. They were also very generous with the amount of bait that they gave us, and were always just a holler away from helping us if we had a problem. We were supposed to dock back at 230 pm but we stayed for an extra 1.5 hours because we were catching so many fish! The best customer service and the best people make this a 5/5. I am 100 percent going to tell all my friends and family about this place and I plan on going at least once a month. My friend came to visit from LA and he had a blast as well. This was a Great day out for a Sunday afternoon. From the start it was great service. A lady welcomed us and checked us in really polite and welcoming. Either a great owner or a great asset to the business. Then the the midnight star captain helped our two young boys onboard and got us set up right away. We were early so his deck hands hadn't arrived yet but rather than making us wait he set up our rods and we were set. We set up right next to a couple who obviously use the trip a lot as the guy was fully kitted out for fishing. I set up his young son with internet wifi and the father gave our kids extra hook lines so thy could catch more. Just to show how good the business is getting repeat business. When time to go deck hands came around making sure everyone set. And for fun set up a heaviest fish pool. Making a little competition for the boat. Very fun. Only a couple of things that stopped 5 stars on my rating was that it was not really deep sea fishing as we were not too far from Harbour and that the rods and bait could have been a bit better quality but they did the job if u just casually fishing and don't really care how much u catch. . The parent that gave the kids extra hooks gave me one of his rods and his bait and the fish catch increased 10x after that. So again thank you to that guy. The boat was also for my personal liking a little packed so fishing lines getting tangled a lot, couple of people including myself actually said if 10-15 less people we would have been comfortable paying a bit more. But a great group and was a fun day. When came time to go back in the deck hands got everyone to form a line and cleaned their fish for them. The seagulls loved it also. Lol. Crazy Eddie is the man! They took care of us and were always available to get out the tangles and replace hooks and sinkers. We didnt catch anything, but people we went with caught a big ass Cod and lots of "cango eels" (not sure how to spell). The price was gair and it was an all day event. We left at 7:45am and didnt get back til 4:30pm so plan accordingly. The bathroom was out of order and pretty gross. Overall the staff was great and we had fun! I have fished with Captain Jeff recently, Sept & Oct, although the exact dates are insignificant. First time I met Capt Jeff and his mates, personalities and service were excellent. Fishing reviews should evaluate two features if you are a fisherman: 1. Did the boat provide safety & accommodations? 2. Did the boat provide service & responsiveness? Response to #1: The ship has all Coast Guard approved regulations, safety access during rides: vests, grab pars & stair steps while onboarding/debarking, and crew assisting during tide changes to the dock. Absolutely. COVID issue? I didn't personally venture time in the cabin & remained outside in the wind. As a passenger you need to evaluate your risk. Response to #2: Captain Jeff and mates responded to top quality instructions. We fishers of fish are outside. I brought my own rigs & sinkers (not cheap) but the crew provided any broken off sinkers & rigs at no cost. No cost! No guarantees the same situation exists with future parties but I will sail this boat again ASAP. Lastly, and significantly, I wore sunglasses this past Sunday while fishing on the boat. Left my pair of regular but darn expensive prescription glasses on the boat. Shame on me. Capt Jeff located the costly eyeglasses & will mail me the glasses as I reside in central NJ. I requested retrieval at the dock and another fishing trip. Capt Jeff responded I need not make a separate trip for eyeglasses or a fishing trip. I acknowledge this is a personal review. Would not recommend this charter. First of all, our 30 person didnt catch a single keeper size flounder, however this wasnt the part that upset me. Its the fact that the captain and staff allowed the patrons on the boat to keep and filet fish that did not meet regulation. Someone honestly needs to report this charter to the game warden for this unlawful practice. Restrictions are imposed for a purpose and i would expect a company whom's livelihood depends on the health of the ecosystem to foster good practices not hinder it. read more

Ok experience, Nearly 70 people fishing on this boat, over booked, too many fishing rods out at one time and instead of fishing I was untangling my line. A fishing pole every foot and a half. Captain didn't gave up at the end staying in a location where no one was getting a bite. It was the last 3 hours so he called it quits.
