I had such a great time on this trip. We caught 11 flukes and one won the prize for the biggest catch of the day. The crew on the ship were friendly, knowledgeable and warm. Pretty good for a $35 Groupon deal. Took my nephew out for some fishing. I'm barely competent and it was cool to absorb the wisdom of more experienced anglers. Like every other boat in the Bay, it gets crowded, and the lines did tangle, but it was not as annoying as one would think. Fishing was pretty quiet but a few people made out pretty good, hauling sea rabbits and flounders. I got one by blind luck but otherwise it was uneventful. The grizzled boat dudes were helpful for the most part, except with their instructions on the "filet service." A cigarette-smoking dude will expertly filet your fish, but make sure you stay by it and claim it, or you might as well say goodbye to the pesce. The evening outing came with a beautiful sunset that was lost on most of the fishermen: phone camera pic ops galore. If you're sensitive to casual foul language, don't bring your youngins on this boat. There WILL be swears. read more

Captain Timmy and Captain Jeff are the best! My bf and I bought a Groupon for a half day fishing trip for a great deal. We ended up showing up late at the pier because our GPS took us to DUMBO instead of Sheepshead Bay when we put in "Pier 1, Brooklyn, NY". So make sure that the pier location is correct. I called ahead to let them know my situation and Captain Jeff told me that they'll be there until 5:10 pm and no later. After racing down to Sheepshead Bay from DUMBO, I show up at 5:11pm and saw the boat departing from the dock. I stood on the dock with my cooler watching the boat sail away when Captain Timmy approached me and asked if I was the one who called ahead to let them know my situation with navigation. Captain Timmy immediately called Captain Jeff to let him know that I was here and they turned the boat around to pick us up!! Absolutely incredible and I never would have expected that in a million years. Though some of the customers expressed their dissatisfaction of having the boat turned around to pick us up, I'm sure you would be relieved too if you were in my shoes. Don't expect the captains to turn their boats around for every late customer, but I wanted to share this awesome customer service and satisfaction I experienced. THE BEST IN BROOKLYN and SHEEPSHEAD BAY!!! i grew up fishing on "party-boats" outta Atlantic Highlands in NJ and after moving to Brooklyn, i needed to find the right one when i wasn't surf casting or bait-fishing. i went out on a few others before grabbing some Groupons for the Capt.Midnight/the Bullet Fleet and man was I ever happy. it's a little smaller than the rest, but makes up for it big time. the thing is, most the other "nicer" & bigger boats don't really care once they've got you onboard and got your money. gas is so expensive now so they try to not take you very far to save as much fuel as possible which means fewer spots, and LESS FISH. Captain Jeff though is an ace! and since he's got a smaller boat that uses less gas and wants you back on his boat another time, he's not scared to bring everybody all over in search of the best spot with THE MOST FISH. every time i've been out on the Capt.Midnight/Bullet Fleet, everyone has caught fish. the 1st mates, Kyle and i forget the other one's name, are so nice and helpful. i know what i'm doing (most of the time) but they're even really patient with beginners and 1st-timers. in addition, one of the best things about this boat is the "vibe", excuse the expression. what i mean is it's such a mixed group, such a wonderful cross-section of brooklyn anglers, with everyone helping and talking to each other. all the regulars are funny and friendly, never giving you a mean "locals only" vibe. people who go out on the Capt.Midnight/Bullet Fleet keep coming back, which shows in the way Captain Jeff knows practically everybody onboard and they all have told me separately when i've been fishing next to them that he's the best captain outta sheepshead bay. i could go on and on, but you get the point. it's definitely the best value out there. the most fish for the best price, w/ the best atmosphere. can't wait to get back on board! This is an awesome service. The reason for only 4 stars is because they really pack the boat and this can result in crossed and tangled lines. If you can deal with being with a bunch of strangers that are fishing, then it's not a big issue. We were posted up next to a really nice family that were patient with the tangled lines and even gave us some of their leftover chips. Also this place is hard to find and I wish they had a parking lot. You won't find good directions on how to get to this place because if you search for Pier 1 Sheepshead Bay on Google, you will be looking up all of the Pier 1 home goods stores. Just look for Emmons and 26th St and look for Captain Midnight boat. It basically looks like a smaller ferry boat. Other people will be getting on with coolers and guys will be collecting or selling tickets. There is no parking lot, just circle around a few times to find street parking. We were lucky to park near the Roll and Roaster in a spot that didn't have a meter so essentially it was free to park for us. You should probably get there 30 minutes before they take off, but we were lucky getting there as they were pulling away and we were able to grab the last two seats by the entrance/exit of the boat. Once you're on board, make your way inside with $3 to get a fishing pole w/ weight. The bait will be provided once you get closer to the fishing site. You will visit about 5 sites. One of the sites was super wavy, so make sure to bring motion sickness pills if you need. Luckily nobody on our boat puked. I definitely felt some bites on my pole, but didn't catch anything. Only a few people caught and it was like a high of 2. The couple that reviewed below that caught 11 were super lucky. The guys on the boat are super helpful and circle around to make sure everyone is ok, bait is plentiful, and will help you get your fish off the hook and into a bucket. I'd definitely go back again. I can't wait to for another groupon to come out for this! I went last September for $25 per person and it was so much fun. Words to the wise: - Wear rainboots or crappy shoes, and clothes. I suggest layering. - Bring food and drinks & a cooler of ice to put your fishies in - At some point, bait becomes scarce. Bring a knife so you can cut up the smaller fish you catch and use it as bait! Or you can bring your own special bait (next time I go, I'm probably bringing pre-cut squid) - If you're squirmy about reaching into a fish's mouth to get a hook out and wrestling with it, bring heavy duty gloves - If you're prone to motion sickness, take meds before you go! I read the previous two reviews and fully prepared myself and my brother for this trip. Here are the ups and downs: If you have the groupon, it is a decent deal, however if you are thinking about paying the full $60/person, please do not. The crew was nice and helpful. You will catch fish. If you are sensitive to motion sickness, this will be a trip from hell. The boat is relatively small and it was super crowded on the day we boarded. Most people got sick and were throwing up, and the others caught fish but were too small to keep. There were three asian guys that caught a lot, but they used their own bait. I took pills before boarding, but it was just way too much for me. My advice: do not go if you know you will be sick. If you do go, bring sunscreen, hat, lunch, water, and ice box for your catch. read more

We got a groupon for this place...and since i have never gone fishing before...i was thrilled.... For $25 a person and ($3) for a sinker, you get your own fishing rod, baits, a whole day of fishing and of course your prizes (Fishes). Not a bad deal at all!! The Capt and the crew were very helpful and would help you whenever you need help...but they were definitely unable to help me and the some of the other people who were on the boat when most of us got sea sick...unfortunately, they didnt sell the medicine on board, because its against the law...booohooo Since we had a bit of rain lately, there werent that many fishes to catch, and the waves were still rocky...but at the end, we still ended up with some fishes... Note: Definitely bring sun block, hats, sunglasses, bottle water, lunch and some wet wipes or if you can bring a bucket of fresh water as well...You will be under the sun most of the day..and if you are light skin like me...you'll definitely get burnt! As for the fresh water, or wet wipes, they are for you to use after you go to the the rest room. Bought the fishing trip via Groupon, but I have to say that even at full price it would have been worth it. Had a great time with my wife. The trip was more for the fishing than actually fishing. We caught what we caught, a lot of others caught enough to open a restaurant with. Captain and Mate were both really helpful and look to be enjoying the day just like all of the others. Captain took us out pretty far, so it was a great trip and had a lot of fun. Only thing that would have given this 5 stars would have been a cleaner bathroom, not that I really had to go but needs some updating and some newer rods or at least the reels need to be updated, the lines get tangled if you don't use the trick the mate shows you, shouldn't need to do that however, I've had rods that I could cast without issues. read more

We had a groupon for an evening trip (5 to 9 pm). Quick review: we had a lot of fun but it was WAY too crowded and would have been a better trip if they didn't let so many people on the boat. Longer review: We called the number a few days ahead to make a reservation and they told us to come at 4 pm for the 5 pm trip. We rushed to get there, which wasn't necessary. Many people came at 4:30 and 4:45, and they were loading the boat right up until 5. We left around 5:10 or 5:15. It was all very confusing and frustrating at first, in terms of where to go and what to do, because it was so crowded. Eventually we got rods, though had to pay $3 for the sinker (which you can take home). And as the boat started going we were still without hooks or bait. But we traveled out for about 30 minutes and anchored off of Coney Island. We got hooks and bait and started fishing. But with only 2 crew to help the 70 or so people, it was a bit hectic - and worse, there was not enough space for everyone to stand at the edge at the same time. I had to stand a bit sideways to fit in and drop my line. There wasn't enough seating for everyone either, unless you wanted to sit inside, which kind of ruins the point of the boat trip. We all caught some fish, though not much - and nothing big enough to keep. I probably caught about 6-7 fish but threw them all back. Other people kept some of the fish. Despite all that, it was pretty fun. A nice way to spend a hot summer evening (this was on Labor Day weekend). We met nice people, had a nice night view of Coney Island, and got a boat ride. There is no food or water on the boat - we brought a cooler with some dinner and drinks, but didn't end up eating. We just drank our beers and water. For an evening trip I think you should just snack before and not worry about bringing food. Definitely bring hand sanitizer and wet wipes, as your hands will get very dirty. You should also bring a plastic bag if you want to bring fish home. Also, you can bring a small cooler with you with ice, to store any fish you want to keep. There is not too much right near the Pier except restaurants- but there is a bait shop where you can get drinks and ice. I suggest trying the trip on a weeknight, when hopefully it would be less crowded. read more

We had a great day on the Bullet. It was a Monday so the crowd was small but the fishing was LARGE! Our main mate Kyle was really helpful, especially with the teens who screwed up their lines more then once. The 4 of us ended up catching about 40 fish, many were too small and went back to be caught again next year, but the several keeps we caught were huge and delicous! All in all we took home about 7 Fluke and 1 large Sea Bass. Perfect day on the water! Oh, I would have given 5 stars but there is no running water in the bathroom sink and only 1 restroom worked. Midnight) and was told the wind is too much (50mph) and they couldn't ship out, which is bullshit - we checked the wind was 18 mph and it was a beautiful day. They probably didn't want to ship due to not enough people, and didn't even have the BASIC courtesy to call us, who made reservations in advance!? Such a waste of money and time, very disappointed. Went for evening trip 5p-9p using groupon and we had a blast. My kids went fishing for the first time and caught plenty of fish. Unfortunately we mostly caught red sea robins, poor things make a whining sound when caught so we released quite a few. There were plenty of fluke and small sharks. Not sure what type of shark but it was fun. The crew was great, especially Kyle. Ready to take the next trip but hoping for sea bass. Only complaint is it get so crowded lines get tangled quite a bit and no toilet paper in the bathroom. Bring your own roll or wet wipes. read more

One word: unprofessional. My friends and I, all 8 of us, travelled from Manhattan, the Bronx and New Jersey for almost two hours to get to the pier only to be told that they're "waiting for a part to fix the boat." Mind you, this was without ANY prior notice, and we had made our reservation more than a month in advance. To make the matters worse, we actually had called them three hours prior to the departure time (5 p.m.) to confirm the trip, but no one had answered our call. Furthermore, there was a lady who came with her son from Long Island, and this was her third time getting turned away like this without any prior notice nor proper reasons. Loved it! Got the groupon and was a gewat price. Def would not pay the full 68 bucks for the trip, unless i LOVED fishing. Go on a weekday. The weekends are super croweded with the other groupon people. Went on a tuesday and 80% of the passengers were regulars. They were very helpful and gave us tons of tips on how to catch the fish and what to bring to eat next time. We also hadnTommy the deck hand who was amazing and very helpful and attentive. Heres what I learned, Bring some bait, for a few reasons. 1 by the end of the trip they usually run out of bait so to avaiod having to cut up little fish, bring your own back up. Smelting fish from the supermarket or fish market is cheap and works. Its only abot 1-1.50 per pound. Also most of the boat will be using the same bait so offerig the fish some variety in their options may make your hook more attractive. And if you are really into it you can do your homework and get some pellets, bait etc to help you catch sime fish. Bring food that you do not have to touch. By the time youmare ready to eat, your hand will be disgusting, there is no soap and water and hand sanitizer only does but so much. A wrapped sandwich, or something with a spoon. Also, it shoukd be easy to eat on a very rocky boat. Bring wet wipes and a a bottle of water just to rinse of your hands if you need them to eat or scratch your face or out your hair in a bun. Other postnhave suggestedmpaper towels or napkins. Nope, all the old timersnhad old tshirts or towels tied to the rail to wipe their hands. Why, because it is difficult to hold a rod and rip off a paper towel, notto mention everything else will get dirty in the process of you pulling them out, pkus no garbage. The old man next to me gave me a 5 min speech on why I should have left my napkins. I swear everytime we saw a napkin or some type of garbage in the sea he looked over at me andnmy stuff. Lol. Of course the usual, jacket, hat, water, beer, sunscreen (some spots are very very sunny, others freezing) they try diff spots diff days so you never know, mon a tuesday we went to about 10 diff places in jersey and ny. CASH, CASH, CASH. Firsr, there is a fishing pool you can enter for $5 bucks. The day I went 5 people caught BIG fish and the winner got 110 bucks, the guy next to me had the biggest fish but since he didnt enter them pool he lost out. Almost everyone caught fish. We caugt 8 but only 3 were legal size. You can keep the small ones but if you get caught once you exit the boat you can get fined for them. If you keep them like some other people, you have to cut them up before you get back and the crew WILL NOT fillet illegal fish. Your on your own. Second, the rod cost $3, and if your line gets tangled and has to be cut you have to pay $2 to get it rehooked. And third TIP. The crew works really hard, Tommy was by himself running around for 8 hours giving out bait, helping catch fish, unhook them, net them, untanglig lines, filleting fish, teaching people how to fish (us) with no break, he didnt even get to eat. They deserve a tip even if its a few bucks. Especially all the groupn people, you are saving 30 bucks you can tip a few dollars. THEY WORK FOR TIPS. A lot of the regulars helped to clean up on the way back, collecting left over bait and cups, rods, garbage, etc. I took my 10 y/o nephew and henhad a blast. Tommy would bring over the odd catches for him to see, sharks, spider crabs, skate fish etc. Not for all kids, 8 hours is a long time! The night trip might be better for the younger crowd. read more

9/2/14 It was my first time deep sea fishing and Im definitely going again. I had a blast!!! I caught about six flukes with 2 having to be thrown back. The captain and ship mates were awesome. Ill see ypou guys again real soon. The captain stop in different plaves to give everyone a chance to get a bite. Do not ever get on captain midnight. It's the worst boat there is anywhere. YES. ANYWHERE. I fished along the east coast from Maine to Florida and they take the prize. Idk how it's run now merge with bullet II. Bullet II is a fine boat but they don't sell tickets to that boat on groupon. Only captain midnight. I wonder why? Is it because they can't pay someone to get on midnite. I haven't been on this boat for years so my review is only on captain midnite about 3 or 4 years ago. But since it's a little misleading referring u here on groupon (check captain midnight for true review of this boat), I will recount my experience on that boat. I took my son to sheepshead bay for a fishing trip (his 1st) 1 summer. Everyone was full except for them. Got on the boat and would've left if not for my son's excitement for his 1st open water fishing trip. The cabin was filthy with an inch of water on the floor. People smoking pot right inside the cabin. At the very least, the mates should've make them smoke outside where it won't bother other people. But my son who was 11 at the time had to inhale whatever they were smoking. Advertise free tackle in big bold sign on their boat. The free tackle consist of something like a broom handle with tapes wrapped all around it. I don't remember if there even was a reel on that rod. So extra $5 a piece get u a crappy tackle set. Bait was clams that has turn brownish color. So technically they gave u everything so why the bad rating? What u r selling sir is the experience of going out on open water and have a fun day and hopefully catch some fish. What we got was nothing like that. First and Foremost the Captain of this boat is nothing but a gentlemen. Captain Jeff is friendly, very helpful, and does his best to keep the boat in the best places to find fish. He is a stellar Captain and it's unfortunate that he works with troubled and deplorable deck mates. When we arrived Ira ( one of Captain Jeff's deck mates) was seated with some ofter fisherman. He was engaged in conversation with them and he seemed to be familiar with them. He then greeted us and engaged in aggressive unsolicited "conversation". Ira didn't seem to notice that we were uncomfortable with his joking and aggressive banter. He would walk away from us, come back and continue to be aggressive. We even tried to keep busy amongst ourselves so he would get the hint and leave us alone but he never got it. We told Ira we wanted to sit in the back of the boat after he asked us. He told us that the back of the boat the worst place to sit. He took our rods and ensured us that he would give us the BEST seats on the boat. Ira sat the guys that he was initially hanging with in the back and the front of the boat. He put us in the middle of the boat by the door with the the most traffic and the most people. Ira also seemed to aggressively joke around with one of my friends in particular. Finally I asked Ira a question about bait and he embarrassed me in front of my friends and the other guests on the boat. At the top of his lungs he screamed "YOU'RE THE AMATEUR, I'M THE PRO, YOU ARE CONFUSING THE FISH WITH ALL YOUR BAIT JUST DO AS I SAY!" I was too uncomftable to ask Ira about how I was confusing the fish and just stood there very embarrassed. Ira also seemed to have a bizarre fixation with one of my friends. He KEPT making her the butt of his jokes in a very aggressive manner. He continued to do this with her on the pier AND on the boat. Finally, Ira sat behind my friend as she fished and used his two fingers to PLUCK her butt. Yes, Ira put his hands on my friends behind. My friend became very upset and told Ira NOT to touch her ever again. He ignored her and tried to embarrass ME about my bait AGAIN in order to deflect her protests about what he had just done. He then sat down very close to me and yelled "YOU ARE CONFUSING THE FISH, WE TALKED ABOUT THIS". This was very odd because he already fixed my hook that had wrong bait on it. Ira cowardly tried to avoid my friends protest by throwing me in the middle of it. Again, Ira was yelling at me about bait and embarrassing me. My friend had to remind Ira that her protests was NOT about bait and not to touch women without their permission EVER. Our fishing trip was ruined. My friend who was touched by Ira was upset for the rest of the trip. She barely spoke and no longer wanted to fish. My friends and I were embarrassed by Ira and felt extremely violated by this man. A young African American male deck hand noticed that my friend was no longer fishing and that she was very upset. He kindly asked her what her what was wrong. He apologized profusely on Ira's part. He also told my friend that Ira didn't think "plucking" my friend's butt was a big deal. The young African American man was very helpful on the boat and did a great job working with all the guests. We will NEVER go on this boat again. I wanted to write this yelp in order to warn women about Ira. I wanted to talk to Captain Jeff myself about this ordeal but we all just wanted to leave the boat as soon as we could. Like I said Captain Jeff is a great friendly guy but he's gotta keep an eye on his mates. They are not a reflection of him or his services. read more

My mistake so I paid twice great I contacted the boat she said she will do it that night. Fast forward still haven't gotten a refund the day of the trip my daughter wasn't feeling well in the morning I thought maybe something she ate. Took her to the doctor she has the flu. The boat wouldn't allowed me to reschedule I contacted Groupon and got my money back. I'm not trying to cancel but things like this does happen at least be understanding. Then the company texts me back they wouldn't give me a refund like really I'm contacting my credit card now to dispute this Nonsense! I wouldn't even dare give this business my hard earn money!!! I used a google offers here with my girlfriend for the 7:30 fishing till 3:30. Over all the fishing trip was great. Took 2 hours to reach to destination to begin fishing. They charged $3 for every rig (2 seabass hooks and one 8oz weight). I lost mine twice. So you could imagine how frustrated I was to dish out 9 dollars total for rigs. The captain and crew were awesome! The ship... Was another story. The bathroom was very dirty with no running sink and the benches were not that clean to sit on. The cabin inside was worse. We stood out for an extra hour which was great!! The 3 old guys next to me were keeping all their seabass and flukes they were hooking up. Especially all short ones, I wanted to say something but I figured it wasn't their first time since they were quick to put them in their coolers. I had a total of 7 seabass what a great day. Sure - we understand that a thunderstorm can hamper any fishing trip but when we were told there was engine trouble the next two times (with no prior notice), we decided to not take our chances. After asking around to see if there were other evening charters to go on, we found out this company does not have a good reputation and is 'known' for these kind of antics. Finally managed to go on a weekday. Compared to weekend trips, the boat was much less crowded, and the crew has a bit more time for everybody. I went out on Bullet Fleet once before, so this time I'm more experienced and took all I would need with me, ice box, sinkers, soft bait whatever. Bobby was very helpful and offered to help me attach my tackle to my line, even though I brought my own and didn't pay him to buy theirs. The weather is getting cool and there's wind, luckily I've got an extra jacket. Captain Jeff was helpful at all times, as usual, showed me how to adjust the reel that I brought with me. We stopped in 4 or 5 spots, and all of them are full of fish. Some complaints: 1, only one bathroom open and no tap water (there IS water for flushing the toilet). I had to bring a bucket to fetch sea water, and extra bottled water to wash my hands. 2, the bait that day isn't as good as what I got last time. We were using the meat of shell fish, some of which is strong and suitable to put on the hook (wouldn't be torn away by fish), some not. What I got that day had too much unusable ones. read more

I read all the reviews, some good some bad and decided to go via a groupon deal. I went with 15 other guys and here is the honest truth. This is what they don't tell you in groupon... you only have a choice of 3 days to go, Friday, Saturday or Sunday (very important detail that I wish I knew before I bought the deal). Also, I collected money from all the guys and found out while we were going out to see that there is an extra $5 charge for the fishing poles (not mentioned in groupon). My problem with that was not the $5 but the fact it was not mentioned in the deal, nor did the captain tell me during our 7 conversations on the phone. The boat was FILTHY and old. The generator kept losing power causing the boat to go completely dark at night. Some guy kept fixing it and lights would come on then go off again (happened about 5-7 times). Potentially dangerous situation when its pitch black and the boats lights are out and other boats in the area. Also, out of 16 guys, 5 were throwing up. Boat not big, seas were somewhat rough which made the boat rock non stop for 4 hours. No one really caught anything worth mentioning. read more

This entire establishment is UNPROFESSIONAL. Terrible service and that's on the rare occasion that they answer the phone. I booked our reservation in advance. Had all the "information" I needed. 1st, their website sends you to a Pier 1 imported store. I had to call for about 17 minutes before someone answered the phone. Only to give me an address that was still unclear. Now I'm on the deck looking at all the boats trying to figure out which is the "Bullet". Not 1 single boat was named Bullet! Again, I'm calling and calling. Some woman tells me it's across the street from Applebee's. Great, there's only 4 boats NONE THAT SAY BULLET across from Applebee's. Several captains from other boats inform me that it's no longer Bullet but Lady midnight. I go over to lady Midnight, the woman has no idea what I'm talking about. At this point I'm over it and just want my money back. I call to let them know what has happened, how unprofessional they are and that I'm requesting a refund. She tells me, you are late, it's 10 o'clock, if you were there on time you would have made it. Now I'm beyond upset. Number 1, it was 9 am. Number 2, I was there since 8:15 due to your incorrect address via the website. She had the nerve to tell me the boat is lady midnight and it's gone. This is as I am LOOKING AT THAT SAME BOAT. They have no idea what they are doing. It's frustrating and a huge waste of time. On my 1 day off, wanted to take my mom fishing. Thanks for nothing. I will never return. read more
