Damn! The cuban sandwich was to die for. I would post a pic but it only took me and my husband less than 10 minutes to eat it. Their chicken, rice and beans and sweet plaintains were the bomb!!!! The chicken was seasoned well, the rice and beans are soooo f'n good and plantains soft and sweet just how I like it- If you're on South Beach you have got to pass by! Unassuming and plain on the outside, all the action and coolness is on the inside! I swear we stepped into a NYC deli. The store is crowded but organized and had a ton of foods you can't get at Publix! The deli counter is a little intimidating for first timers, but the staff is super friendly and helpful. The day we just happened to walk by saw it, we just wanted to grab some snacks to take to the beach. There was hot, homestyle Cuban food, huge sandwiches, and tons of fresh stuff behind the counter! We ended up ordering a few subs & chips, but oh man!!! My kids and I are STILL dreaming about how good those sandwiches were. Toasty French baguettes loaded with amazing ingredients?! I love little delis like this which feel like a community hub, serving delicious house made food that is quite reasonably priced. Also, they have a wide variety of goods for sale from instant coffee to socks. An essential standby for those that live in the vicinity. Breakfast Pastries: Got a bunch, all unlabeled, and they were all delicious! I especially like the ones that were meat stuffed inside yucca and deep fried. You get crunchy, pasty and meaty all at once. Though the thing that looked like a deep fried meatball was delicious and it was only meat. The empanadas were hearty too, pretty solid. Oh yeah, and the guava pastry was sweet like a nice breakfast desert. Cubano: Very meaty and cheesy. Generous amount of pickles and mustard, which I love for the tang. Didn't really notice the pernil though as ham was the dominant meat. Breakfast Sandwich: Standard breakfast fare. Croissant with egg, cheese and ham. By itself, it would be pretty tasty. But I was eating this side-by-side with Cubano and the Cubano was just so good I couldn't appreciate the breakfast sandwich as much. read more

True definition of hole in the wall. A little Spanish goes a long way here. Boarshead meat and cheeses sold fresh in sandwiches prepared in the back. The hot case also has some great looking food. Just keep the drool off the glass please. The rest of the store is great for the little things that locals might need. Great cold cases too for beer, wine, a variety of drinks. Excellent! Hot bar food looked delicious but I only ordered a small container of rice with pork. It was fantastic (ate it around the corner Al fresco at Collins Park). Also ordered a Cuban w/o pickles which was very good but it had a bunch of those weird fried potato sticks on it (not listed on the board) which I would have also have removed. Here in Miami for work and staying at a nearby hotel. The house guys recommended this place for quick made-to-order sandwiches. The folks that run the place are incredibly nice and the store has lots of things that are needed while on a trip. The place is clean and bright, and carefully maintained. The sandwich was so good I came back a few days later. The woman behind the counter suggested a plate of rice with beans along with shredded chicken, a beef stew, and an eggplant dish served right on top. It was delicious! And also a very fair price, especially with all the tourist spots that surround the area. read more

Fantastic $8-10 sandwiches using Boar's Head meats on freshly baked bread. This little market is carry out only, but they do have beer & wine that you can grab and go. Amazing breakfast sandwiches! After enjoying yesterday, we had to go back! Tried 3 different breakfast sandwiches, on Cuban roll, French bread and Hugh croissant. All were so fresh with crusty outside and flaky inside! French bread and croissant were my favorites! Their coffee is awesome too! The prices here can't be beat. $6 for a Hugh breakfast sandwich and $2.50 for small coffee, $4 for large. The other sandwiches range from $8 to $10 and are Hugh! Compared to other prices in area, unbelievable! No place to eat there but walked 1 block to Collins park and sat on bench in front of the Bass Museum. This was our best experience while staying in South Beach! Coming from the Midwest and being a foodie, I absolutely love trying new and different things. I get tired of doing the mainstream types of restaurants and have enjoyed trying the much smaller "dive" type restaurants that can bring more of the authentic type flavors that I really want. I stumbled across this hidden gem on Yelp by just looking at the map around our hotel. With the less than desirable places that we were seeing on the main strip that was $$$$, we decided to give this place a try. I was just wanting something small for breakfast as our hotel strangely enough didn't offer a continental breakfast even though it said in the booking. One of the reviews described it as a bodega like one would see in NYC. I would have to agree. This was a very small corner store with groceries and essential items, but it also had a small area for fresh foods and sandwiches. The selection was small and had a heavy Latin/Mexican food influence, which is one of my absolute favorite types of food. Looking at some of the reviews, it suggested we try the ham and cheese croissant sandwich. We ended up getting the croissant sandwich, a beef empanada and the cafe con leche. Back home, I don't get to have the more authentic flavors that is available here. I am so glad that we tried this place because it was by far the best tasting food we had while staying in South Beach. The ham, egg, and cheese croissant sandwich was absolutely phenomenal! It was a huge sandwich and I could not finish it either day we had it. They were handmade. The croissant had to be homemade because it was the best croissant I have ever had. This even tasted better than a croissant I have had at a French bakery. They cut the croissant in half and place it on a panini press to heat and toast it. The eggs are fresh. It was just a very satisfying and filling sandwich! The beef empanadas are also homemade as the crust was just so tender and flaky and nearly melted in my mouth. The filling was very simple- just ground beef with some seasonings. It was wonderful! I have never had an empanada that was so flaky and tender and just an overall great taste. The cafe con leche was also very satisfying. I can be kinda of picky when it comes to coffee and this just hit the spot! It was nice and strong without being too bitter. It also had the perfect amount of cream and sugar to where is was not too little or too much for me. It was just right and I never specified on how much I wanted. It was wonderful! Do not overlook this place because of the looks or what you see when you walk in the store. Go to the back counter where the hot foods are and let your eyes take over! 100% recommend this place and I would go back again and again!!!! Amazing!!! read more

I'm in town for a convention. I'm selling stuff. It is long days. After each day I stop here and get something to eat. Yesterday it was an amazing sandwich (South Beach Turkey), a watermelon soda, and a banana. I ate the leftovers for breakfast. Today it was a huge portion of Cuban pork, rice and beans (the best I've ever had), a spinach empanada, a banana, and a single beer. I'll be having the leftovers for breakfast.
