If you're looking for a beach where your kids can build sandcastles without accidentally using a beer can as a shovel--Ocean City, NJ is your spot. This place is squeaky clean, super safe, and delightfully dry (as in, no alcohol allowed on the beach) The boardwalk has everything a family could want: pizza slices bigger than your head, fudge that defies logic, mini golf courses every 15 feet, and rides that are reasonably priced. We love going to Ocean City Beach and prefer it over any other shore spot. The beach is always clean, and the wide boardwalk easily handles the crowds. There are plenty of stores and treats to choose from, and everyone you meet is friendly. Falcons patrol the skies to keep the seagulls away, which is a huge plus. We always grab preseason beach tags since they're cheaper than in-season. Great place for a relaxing and family-friendly day at the shore. read more

Ok so first and foremost pls be aware that you have to pay to attend this beach. Our family found out after being there for three hours and a young man approached us and asked for our passes, we were completely lost. So anyway long story short it's $10 a day for anyone 12 and over. You can do weekly passes or season passes also. That was that. The boardwalk, amazing SO many food choices I highly recommend the crab fries but also I had to eat mine in a bag because the seagulls are very disrespectful, ask my daughter who was eating a sandwich on the beach and got jumped by the seagulls. Don't worry she's ok. But yes our new beach spot. GET THERE EARLY, because the whole state goes to the beach daily. Remember swim between the green! read more

My family has been visiting Ocean City, NJ for generations. It all began over 50 years ago when my mom and her siblings vacationed there as children. One of the few true year round beach destinations. A quick shot down the AC Expressway and then a little bit on the NJ Parkway and you're there. It is great to come down off season (outside of Memorial Day-Labor Day) and still be able to walk the boardwalk, stop to get something to eat, enjoy the waves, etc. They have some stores and bathroom facilities open year round on the boards (although of course not like during the summer), so a great getaway on a warm fall or spring (or even winter) weekend day. Parking is typically free Nov 1-April 30, but even during the season you can find free spots if you're willing to walk a little bit. read more

Some of the dissenting Yelp reviews for Ocean City Beaches are quite honestly idiotic once you start reading them because the "complaints" except for one have nothing to do with the beaches themselves. * Paying for beaches tags is annoying but, duh, how do you think the OC beaches/boardwalk stay so pristine year after year? If you don't like it stay somewhere else or come later in the day away from the boardwalk where your chances of seeing tag patrols are about the same as finding the Loch Ness Monster. * There should be smoking areas on/near the boardwalk and beach? Hell No! There is no way a dry beach town founded as a religious community is ever going there. Again, this is the way it's always been and the way it will always be. Don't like it? Go somewhere else. * Yes there are a lot of crappy restaurants in town. But there are a lot of crappy/overpriced restaurants in any beach town. It's the nature of the beast when you combine a largely captive audience with an environment where most businesses need to make their money within a very short window. This isn't the only beach town or even the only Jersey beach town or even the only South Jersey beach town where this type of gouging is going on. Don't like it? There is no need for it and over multiple referendums the residents who have to live there year round and put up with shoobies like us summer after summer have said a resounding "NO" towards allowing alcohol to be sold on the island. Look, Circle Liquors isn't that far and neither is the Super Liquors on Roosevelt. You can make it, you can last the short drive. It'll be OK to live those extra few minutes without booze. Don't like it? Go stay somewhere else because clearly you're in the minority and it'll just make that one more rental be available for me next year. The beaches themselves are well maintained and beautiful. The town does a great job keeping them clean and they along with the state of NJ plus the federal government do a good job with the never ending task of beach replenishment. While OC is not perfect, if there's a better overall place to go in season especially from a family orientated standpoint in NJ....it flat out doesn't exist. See you in June. read more

One of if not the cleanest beach in NJ it's packed with family fun. From the beach to the rides and the restaurants in the area you won't be bored. The shops in the area are what you would typically find in a beach town. Clothes, food, ice cream and shore decor shops litter the boardwalk from one end to the other. Of course some of these shops are better than others and that's up for you to decide yourself. But some of the places I tend to return to are the Wonderland rides, Kohr bros ice cream, Dip and Dot kiosks, George's candies, Primavera and Cubzero. All of these are places I return to every time I come to Ocean City. The area is a no nonsense city and is very family friendly, and take note.... it's a dry city.... so bring it with you . read more

It's not just the sweet & warm memories of my paternal grandparents taking my sister and I here that warrant my review. Ocean City is kept in pristine condition (the literal boards & all of the stores Ive been too). Even the ever-busy bathrooms are USUALLY clean. We generally stake our claim by the Music Pier because of the bathrooms and rinsing fountain. Great photo opps too! The boardwalk has varied and mostly affordable stores. 'Henry's' has gorgeous jewelry - a lot of Ocean City pieces ( the "OC hook") and good quality clothing & throws. The restaurants are great too esp 'Three Brothers' (pizza), 'Del's' (sandwiches & crab cakes), 'Ike's Seafood' --- the ORIGINAL location), 'Ocean City Coffee Company' & ..... SHRIVER'S (salt water taffy & other fabulous candy & CHOCOLATES). Their "mall" at the end of the boardwalk is really great - a teen's dream come true! OC tees & sweats, jewelry, an oxygen bar, stuffed animals, posters, "dirty stuff" in the back, ETC! There is even a character artist & yummy Hawaiian shaved ice in the front now! Yes, you have to pay for the beaches but it's worth it. They are beautiful & always boast on point lifeguards. Be forewarned of crazy crowding! DON'T FEED THE SEAGULLS! I go back year after year and have been going for over ... gulp - 40 of them! Ocean City is absolutely my HAPPY PLACE for life! read more

This was our first visit to Ocean City. We stayed for 3 days and 2 nights and had a wonderful time. The town is very quaint and not as commercially built up as some other Ocean/Beach towns, which we enjoyed for our little getaway. The beach and boardwalk area were well maintained and clean. Of course, like most boardwalks, the food and shops are over priced. We ate meals mostly in town and prices for those restaurants were very reasonable and we found some pretty good ones. We happened to be here for the weekend of Night in Venice, so it was an added bonus to see the boat parade. As others mentioned, it is a dry town. So, keep that in mind and if it's important bring in your own vino and booze. read more

To get the obvious out of the way - this is a dry town. You know what that means? LOAD UP ON ALCOHOL AT CIRCLES LIQUOR BEFORE THE BRIDGE!! Now that we have gotten that out of the way, we have lots o love for Ocean City NJ. We have spent many summers at its sister city Ocean City, MD and I think I may like the NJ version better! Go figure! I don't really like dirty Jersey but I do like this place. The boardwalk is amazing!! Big, clean and no riff raff. Lots of great restaurants, tons of mini golf courses, Kohr Brothers Ice Cream, tons o fudge and lots of young kid friendly rides. There are families everywhere and all the restaurants have kids menus! The beach is beautiful, the town is cute and the people are friendly. What more could you want from a vacation spot? read more

Wow, let's get real. I'm originally from NJ, now in PA 2 1/2 hours away. Trip was just OK with the traffic in Phili on RT 76. Almost there, off the Garden State Parkway onto West Laurel (RT 52) on your way to Somers Point, there is a final toll booth. I could not believe how ridiculous it was. In a residential area, $2.10 exact change, no bills, no attendant and run down. Be prepared. Stayed at the Ocean City Manor. It has two main buildings for over night. The Manor is rated 3 Stars, don't know how? A bit run down. Reminds me of the Adams Family with all the sculptures and wall paper and that 70's Show room fixtures. Got a good price after Labor day. A little overboard with the bibles all over. Guests were all over the age of 65. The south side of the island up to 52nd street is all ritzy, ritzy modern bungalows and rental units with well kept landscaping. Clean. Different near the attractions. You get the expected salty air smell mixed with some kind of rot. The island does not have a Maximum Capacity for development or tourists! Zoning should have been different from the start. The houses are all tight together like Manhattan. Look at this pay phone picture from in front of the Manor. They all want to make money over the years but never put it back into the City. I only recommend it for little kids to go on the amusements. Food on island was expensive and terrible too. Bring your own. Sorry, just being honest in this review. read more

Just absolutely love this city! There is something for everyone and every age. We enjoy the boardwalk from shopping the novelty shops, to the variety of food shops something for everyones palat. Its off season so lots of deals right now, and you dont have to pay to get on the beach, and there are still lifeguards on duty until this weekend! Which is good because it wad 89 out! Parking prices drop too from 25.00 to 10.00 for the day, but there are parking meters on the streets if your stop is not long! Ocean City is a dry town! There are great kid places like 4 mini golf places, two or three mini amusement ride places, and a few arcades! We really enjoy Jillys arcade, my son loves skee ball...and they have it.. Very clean & family friendly beach & boardwalk. A dry town, so it's great for families. Boardwalk shops & activities are pricey, but it's a vacation destination. So that was anticipated. All the shops that we have visited along the boardwalk are quite clean & staff of these places have been quite accommodating. We managed to rent a small suite with a kitchenette just a block off the boardwalk. This has been great. It's easy to run back to the room to rest, use restroom, grab a snack, etc. We will likely return to OCNJ in the future. read more

Great beach and boardwalk with plenty to do for the family and/or friends. You have to pay for this beach, via a beach pass unless you get lucky and don't get checked. If you want pizza go to Mancos. If you drive the streets you can most likely find a spot you won't have to pay for, the only downside is it will be a few blocks from the boardwalk. read more

I love the environment here at the ocean city beach. Only complaint I really have is there is far too much space given for surfers whereas everyone else is cramped into one little spot and aren't allowed to be in or swim in surfers area. From the way it looks, there are 3 people surfing here with two life guards and a couple hundred non surfers for two lifeguards. Not sure how that makes sense. read more

This one is difficult to review. I love it here but some of their rules need to go.. Specifically the smoking rules. Cant smoke at all on the boardwalk. Thats bogus. A year or two ago they had smoking zones away from the main foot traffic and stores. That worked well.. Cant even use a vapor pen. People do smoke. Some smokers are polite and move away from non smokers. The boardwalk is outdoors. We should be accommodated too. Cant smoke on the beach either I hear. Other than that its a really nice family place to vacation. If they want to maximize the money being spent here they will need to consider all who vacation here. read more

I love the atmosphere of this beach. Ocean City, New Jersey. I enjoy the beach small town feeling with stores and everything. It just has a slightly ritzier and cleaner feeling. There is a fee for permit to use beach. Great for under umbrella shadow bathing! Lol. After going to the beach in NJ for over 40 years, I'm sorry I didn't find this town sooner. We usually go to island beach sp, and avoid the boardwalk towns, due to the smoking, drinking, foul language and other nefarious behaviours that I don't like exposing the kids to I really love that we can avoid smelling cigarettes or vape aromas both on the beach and boardwalk, and I feel like my kids can observe that smoking isn't necessarily an acceptable behaviour, but a disagreeable one. I can see making this our new ONLY beach destination going forward. In fact, if they banned cigarettes in the whole town, it would be even better, and would attract more families and business to the area. Great Job O.C. I will never understand how every year we get down here for memorial weekend and nothing is ready. So I can't even sit on the balcony and enjoy the day because Stanley steamer carpet cleaner is busy at work on Friday of memorial day because the past two months wasn't sufficient time. We go to play miniature golf and they're still painting and hammering and nailing. This is every year. I don't understand, especially given the past weeks of beautiful weather how the shore cannot be ready for Memorial Day weekend. A nice boardwalk, cleaner, more family friendly, and much more higher class than it's sister boardwalk down in Wildwood. The arcades are more family friendly, and many of the games are "play til you win" so the kids don't learn too quickly that others are out to cheat you. The store owners are much friendlier as well. Highly recommended to those who have children. read more
