i was greeted as I arrived and promptly seated. there have been times when there was a wait, especially on holidays. I am a frequent diner here and a seafood lover. They have the nicest variety of fish of , I believe anywhere in the area. The serving area is kept clean and frequently restocked. The staff is attentive. The staff is very pleasant. They greet you and seat you right away if there isn't a wait line. The atmoshpere is very nice and the restaurant is very spacious. It's well lit and always very clean. The food is absolutely delicious. The selections are great with there being so much to choose from. I love the Hawaiian shrimp and skewered chicken. You can't go wrong if you decide to dine here. This was my second time coming to this ocean buffet. My first experience was terrible as I began to have stomach issues during and after my meal. I decided to give them another chance just to see if I had just come on an off day. Well I tried something different this time. I had the hibachi and let me tell you the amount of cross contamination risks that I observed at this establishment. There was raw steak next to raw chicken next to raw shrimp all while that was next to all the other hibachi items. Tongs were supplied to each pan but I'm sure people don't realize that cross contamination is a thing and start grabbing different types of meat with the wrong tongs. The sushi looked like it had been sitting out since the start of lunch when I was eating in the evening around 7. The fried rolls were chewy and the regular crab and fish rolls had a stronger than us usual fishy odor. Over all the service this time was fast and the staff was nice but there are many things that need to be changed; starting with that hibachi situation. Had a few bad experiences at this place. Had to write a review because now it's starting to piss me off. I've dinned in and ordered a hot tea. They charge 25 cents for each creamer . Why was the creamer expired and they were still insisting on charging me. I'm NOT drinking your expired items ! We decided to finally try the Ocean Buffet. We went at 1:00 and there was no wait. We were seated quickly then went to the buffet and what a great surprise! All the food was hot. All the food was fresh. Fresh made sushi right in front of you. A hibachi area was available but we did not take advantage of it this time. I am a picky eater, Asian food can be hit and miss but the Ocean Buffet was a hit! There is such a great selection and everything is kept clean and refreshed continuously. In the lobby is a pool with huge, beautiful koi fish to see, enjoy and photograph. There are many food 'stations' with a variety of foods to choose from...oriental, sushi and American. Most of the food wasn't temperature hot but that's quite normal for buffets. Our meals were still tasty and appealing. I prefer the challenge of eating with chop-sticks...Tom opts for using a fork. My Friend , my neice and I ate at Oceans Buffet today and the General TOS chicken, and egg rolls were cold. The large beautiful shrimp were NOT deveined. I asked to speak to the manager and questioned her about the shrimp. I was told," we don't devein our shrimp. I said," you surely can't sell veined shrimp to the general public? Yes, we do!" As I was leaving she told my niece ," we got a different supplier and the cook should have deveined the shrimp." I noticed people pulling off the shell, dipping in cocktail sauce and eating it! We visited Ocala this week after living here previously. We used to love coming to Ocean Buffet and were excited to return. We arrived at 11:30 am on the 4th of July. Unfortunately, we didn't find the food as fresh as it used to be. Two of the dishes we choose were room temperature or even cold in one case. The hibachi grill cook was not friendly and did not listen to our dietary directions. The place is visually appealing with the decorating and maintenance. The food appears to have many options of meals but most of the options are the same thing cooked in different form. They need spend more time making better rice (bland nearly white) the noodles (lo mien) was plain as well. The Frog legs were seasoned better than the chicken. It haves a lot of potential if they took a few days to fix their variety they would easily be a 4+ rating buffet. Small things make a big difference, in this instance the small things were bad thus 2 out 5. These buffets are best on weekends. I find it just fine but I only go Friday, Saturday or Sunday. I made the mistake of going an hour before closing on a Sunday and it was horrible. They had already turned off the steam tables some time before and turned the sushi cold-table off too. I found a few warm items to eat but definitely NOT $14 worth. The hot food wasn't hot and the cold sushi was just dangerous. A call to the health inspector is coming. Further, I made a note for the manager to see and he and the server scoffed at it. Basically, the 2 hours before closing the inmates are running the asylum. Workers stand around or are on their phones. I don't know how they do things in China, but if your posted closing time is 9:30 and you're collecting money from people coming in the door, the expectation is that your business is fully functioning. This is not the case at Ocean Buffet. Late patrons are inconvenient to the worker's after work plans. The service is excellent. More hand sanitizer would be good and so would keeping the hand washing supplies in the men's room maintenance. In summary, I originally had posted a good review but now I've downgraded this place. As on any buffet a couple items were lacking 5 stars. No fresh oysters the entire time, fried blue crabs were very hard to eat and I ate the fried oysters but they were very greasy.
