Hi everyone. On 6/6/2019, I had a horrible traumatizing experience with Dr. Shafa that I have never been through in my entire life. I was there to see Dr. Shafa for a lite laser session to remove some broken capillaries on the two sides of my nose. At that time, I decided to ask her about a couple of large pores I had on my nose that was caused by acne. She offered to do a quick non-invasive laser to reduce the appearance of the pores at a discount since I was already there. Because I trusted her as a professional experienced doctor and she assured her it would be non-invasive with no downtime, I decided to do it. What came next changed my life negatively. On her own, she decided to do me a favor and did an aggressive procedure by burning the tip of my nose with a laser rod. I knew something was wrong when the burn gave me an excruciating pain, I can smell the burn of my flesh, and saw the tip of my nose was flat when she showed me the mirror. I was so scared that I lost sleep for 4 weeks and I was shaken in bed. I couldn't look at myself in the mirror, I declined all gathering, and refused to get out of the house unless I have to. I sought out two other dermatologists for after care advices and they shook their heads. This procedure should have never been done on my nose to minimize large pores. She thought my skin would be smoother after the scabs fall off. It was like she used me as a guinea pig to test out her theory. My conclusion which is the same as the other 3 or 4 reviewers on Yelp is that Dr. shafa is not a trained dermatologist. She does not know enough about skin since she is a family doctor. She's an inexperienced, reckless, risk taker that ruined my life. Now, I have a dented nose with bumpy texture and brown discoloration. I did not agree to this procedure and nothing was explained to me beforehand. I have been looking for a lawyer to sue her and to prevent her from doing this to anyone else again. I came here to get a larger mole on my face removed by Dr. Shafa and she did an incredible job. I was so nervous because it was on my face but the staff were so comforting! Even though the procedure could've been done in 5 minutes, Dr. Shafa took extra time on the excision and stitching to make it look perfect. I got my stitches out 3 weeks ago and it has already healed SO much! I'm so happy with my results, the scar is barely noticeable and eventually will be invisible as it continues to heal. They are very up front about the pricing and there are no hidden fees. You even have the option if you want to send it to the lab or not if you know it is benign. It is pricey, but WAY less expensive than any plastic surgeon in OC. The price is definitely worth the result! The staff and doctor are so sweet and caring. My journey with my face & with Dr. Shafra has been a positive one. I found Dr. Shafra by her reviews & very detailed website. I went in for my first appointment and I have been seeing her for a bit over 3 months now. My acne was so severe it was affecting me emotionally. Dr. Shafra, her office, & her staff, are super professional and caring to their patients needs and concerns. At first, Dr. suggested I might have to take Accutane (strong acting acne oral medication) when she first examined me. However, it would take some time to start that process to get approved, so, in the mean time, she prescribed me some medication and topical creams. After these 3 months so far, that was the cure for me. I didn't even have to get on Accutane; my face changed so much for the better. It feels amazing not having to wear makeup and feel confident with my skin than ever before. Patience and following Dr.'s orders is a must!!! It gets better. It really does. Dr. Shafa is a miracle worker!!! I have had this unsightly huge bruise/spider vein since playing soccer in my teens. I once had a treatment done before but it didn't work and I was discouraged until I stumbled upon Dr. Shafa's Groupon. I thought I'd give the spider vein treatment one more try and I am so thrilled that I did. After the first visit the results were amazing, but after the second there was barely anything there! I had my third and final treatment a couple weeks ago and the huge bruise is pretty much completely gone. I'm so happy not to see this ugly spider vein in pictures anymore and to not have people ask me, "what happened?!" I've scheduled appointments with Dr. Shafa a few times because it was 5 minutes away from my workplace, but I wish I would have just joined a waitlist to see someone actually in it for their patients. Unfortunately, you're better off paying out of pocket here because this doctor will report anything and everything to your insurance if you're in-network. This practice is in it for the money, specifically to screw you and your insurance company. Ask for an itemized list of the charges, and chances are you're paying for services that never took place. Made an appointment a week out, told the person on phone it was a groupon. The day before appointment I get a call reminding me of my said appointment. Really why the hell didn't they say that way back when & why are they still doing tons of groupons right now? I had to jump thru hoops for groupon to give me a refund from these unethical jerks. Buyer beware!!! She was telling me to PAY TWICE! "Get your refund from groupon & see the doctor" . If they are slimy like this one can only imagine what other unethical things they do. No thank you. Full reviews, in my opinion, are quite the overstatement, and as thus, I avoid giving them. My experience here, however, far exceeded my expectations. Family members I had seen only twice this summer even commented on how much nicer my face looked. I was home from school for the summer, and as thus had a very limited amount of time available. Knowing I had little over two months for treatment, Dr. Shafa laid out a plan to tackle my ACNE SCARS in a mere 3 treatments. I was somewhat uncertain at first, having been reminded that acne scar treatment does not typically have substantial instantaneous improvement, though this is where the five stars come in. After my first treatment, a great number of my former scars were now no longer visible or barely so. What was formerly a cheek nearly a third coated from my left zygoma to mandible, one could barely tell I had been marked by mistakes past. At the time of this review, I am 18 years old. A few things that Dr. Shafa told me which later had me sold were that young people still have much ahead, and therefore a permanent treatment would not be optimal. Secondly, that she would not suggest/perform a treatment that she would not do to her own family. Thus, we went through with needling and microdermabrasion. I was slightly skeptical about her statements at first, however, she definitely proved its legitimacy. -She made sure to ask frequently if I felt any discomfort so she could numb an area further (+). -She was very direct leading a "no-nonsense" aura while also being conversational and friendly: very respectable practice (+). -Consultation was straightforward and it was made clear why she felt that my treatment was the BEST treatment in my case (+). My only qualm is that it was far too efficient to be true. Medicine is an art, and Dr. Shafa is undoubtedly worthy of renown. Give her a chance if you are looking for treatment. If you are a teeth grinder, I suggest going to Dr. Shafa's office and try dysport in your masseters! It may sound scary, but it seriously helps relieve the pain! I have gone through countless of mouthguards, but they always felt uncomfortable and bothersome or not strong enough. Im giving this practice 1 star because of Dr Shafa's attitude. Honestly, I went there expecting that she will give me the time to discuss my concerns. As soon as she walked in she said we will only discuss 3 concerns because we dont have time to discuss it all and she was rushing from one thing to another making me uncomfortable to ask further questions. She rushes out and her assistant sat more than the dr herself to discuss further. When i did mention i didn't like how Dr Shafa didn't give me the time, she said oh she didn't see a concern that requires serious attention and spending more time. Doctors SHOULD spend time with patients whether it was serious concerns or not. Because at the end this visit is paid for. To add to that i mentioned several times i would like recommendations from top of the shelves due to my small budget, they kept on promoting their products that was above $100. The only positive side is the assistant's attitude that was welcoming. I had two moles on my face since childhood that I've wanted removed for almost 20 years. Because they were on my face, I was particularly concerned about scarring, and doctors I had visited in the past were not confident that they could give me the result I wanted. I finally found Dr. Shafa, and decided to book a consult, thinking that I probably wouldn't go through with the procedure like I hadn't with previous doctors. After meeting Dr. Shafa, I felt so confident that she was the one I had been looking for. During our initial meeting, I could tell that she truly cares about her patients and changing their lives. She told me "I want you to look at your wedding photos and think of me." My procedure involved Dr. Shafa making excisions - cutting out the mole from the root so it can't grow back and then stitching the skin back together. Since the initial procedure, I have had numerous follow up appointments, and each time she would perform follow up procedures to help my skin heal properly and minimize any scarring. A year after my initial procedure, she performed a subscision (even though the scar was barely visible) to make it look perfect. Each subsequent procedure, whether it involved a laser, numbing, or injections were complimentary as part of the overall package.
