These are the names of the three Championship Nines that make up this challenging championship course.
Each course has it's own set of challenges, with the Grind being the newest of the three nines. It is arguably the easiest nine holes to play but the most challenging to walk. It is designed around the perimeter of the property, going up to the highest point. It's quite different from the original eighteen holes. Personally, I like the unique challenges it presents, lots of changes in elevation.
The original eighteen holes, The Grist and The Wheel, are more mature but a lot flatter, perhaps a little more challenging.
Wednesday's round was a practice round for a tournament that I was hosting on Sunday. Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate on either day, making the course less appealing than usual. While it wasn't soaking wet, some of the holes, especially on The Grind, needed a few dry days to come into shape. That's nobody's fault but Mother Nature's.
As far as the tournament goes, everything went very well! The setup in the morning, the check-ins, the driving range, and the round were all good.
After the round, the setup was equally good, with tables on the patio, BBQ on the terrace, and the food. The staff were very patient and helpful.
Thank you to Matt Savage, Director of Golf, for all your help in arranging this tournament! And the staff for keeping us on time and on task. The food and service were all excellent!
