As part of our son's birthday celebration, we had a private tour and camel ride package set up. Nancy, one of the owners greeted us and was our exceptionally knowledgeable and friendly tour guide. We all loved seeing the birds, hand feeding the sheep, learning about the camels (got some great tips on raising goldfish too) and topped it off with camel rides galore- even the grandparents hopped on and felt comfortable riding. Gil, another owner, is awesome at handling the camels and getting riders positioned in the saddle (is it called a saddle?). OMG! It was such a fun experience. Who knew there's a place like this in SD.Got to be up close and personal with some camels. Got to feed them some carrots, take selfies with them, and got to ride them. Hey I didn't know that I can ride one without being out of the country. I mean minus the pyramids and all LOL! But please do yourself a favor and make a day to trip with family and friends especially if you have a little one. It's an experience for any animal lover. It's very family friendly, they have a little show with some of the other animals, like their turkeys who was being herded by their dogs, chickens, birds, etc. We mainly came there for the camels so we got in line right away. We were able to ride twice. Make sure to bring a small picnic. They had some snack, but it was very minimal. Our trip out to the Oasis Camel Dairy for one of their open farm days was a fun, one time experience. The drive out there is beautiful. Parking is easy. Staff is incredibly friendly. Admission is reasonably priced - $12 general admission - although the camel rides are pricey and short. To me it seemed more like a camel FARM (and petting zoo) than a camel DAIRY. I think I was expecting something more like our previous visit to a cow dairy, where they show you the milking process and walk you through the everyday routine at the dairy. I would have liked to watch them milk a camel and then see what happens to the milk after it's collected. What are the steps from milking to soap making, for example? What else is done with the milk? I know it's illegal to sell camel milk in California, but could they have allowed us to taste it? What makes Oasis unique is not the camels alone, but that it's a camel DAIRY. I felt like they failed to highlight the aspect of their business that actually makes them unique. If I could do it over, I would probably schedule a private tour so I could get a better glimpse into the everyday operation. Maybe on the private tour they show you exactly where the milk goes, what they do with it, where the soap is made, etc. It was fun to feed and pet both the camels and the sheep. I was surprised at how friendly they were! The bird show was ok, but I would have probably preferred a more detailed informational talk about the camels (more interesting tid-bits like the sag of their lower lip as a sign of beauty). I have been here multiple times...we started going about every other year after we saw an episode on dirty jobs. We love animals and camels aren't an ordinary animal you get to see, feed or ride on this side of the world. It is definitely an awesome experience. The owners are the nicest people, you can see the love they have for all of the animals. It is definitely worth a trip to Saint Ysabel. I would give this place a 10 if I could. This was such a fun and unique adventure! We got to spend time with camels, sheep and turkeys. The owners (Nancy and Gil) are so genuine in the their love for their animals and customers. They were completely engaged with us, sharing info and telling funny stories. We learned so much and laughed a lot. Such a totally cool thing today, especially with kids!! We took the 4 pm tour so we got the scenic bonus of the sunset on the horizon - highly recommended. The noble, regal camels only want to give us love and joy but when you get to feed them apple pieces they will not forget you. I finally got there with only my husband; no kids, no one else we knew who would distract from the pure joy. Was helped up to ride 'Camelot,' a 23 yr old regal beauty who took me on a short smooth ride to feel more energy from his beautiful soft strong & quirky body. I've been to Oasis twice, once prior to Covid and once after. One thing I enjoyed prior was when they had big groups Nancy did a great show with the birds and Gil did lots of fun stuff with the camels. I enjoyed the small group/private tour more overall though. It was intimate and we really got to enjoy meeting the animals. We added on the camel rides and the kids and adults in our group enjoyed it. Everyone on the ranch truly loves these animals and it's so fun to see. I definitely recommend a visit to Oasis. read more

Honest moment: this was NOT my idea. My cousin has wanted to visit this place for years, but the timing of her trips to San Diego have never matched up with the dates that the farm is open for tours. Until recently. She booked it all, got it all taken care of almost immediately after booking her airfare. It was all she could do to contain her excitement. She started a camel dairy countdown. She sent me screenshots of Instagram photos and commentary on the camel milk chocolate. She was practically giddy. I, on the other hand, was bemused by her excitement, and willing to go along with her because it she was clearly so excited by the idea of camels and camel milk products. Originally, our group was going to be me, my cousin, and my husband. My husband, however, was not even at bemusement level, and begged an out. So, my brother stepped in, and a merry group of three were we. The drive out to the dairy wasn't as bad as I had expected; just an hour from downtown. Parking in their adjacent lot is free and plentiful. They take your money ($10 at the time of our visit) before you go in, and offer you small cups of sheep food for $2. I went ahead and got a cup for us to share (turned out to be only me and my brother feeding the sheep), and we made the quick walk down to "Mini Sheep Town" to feed the group. Flock. Drove? Anyway, they were sweet, but very insistent on getting that food from your hand. There were a good number of sheep around, and it was hard to keep track of which ones had been treated and which ones were still standing on the outskirts. I had expected a lot of slobber and tongue action on my hands from the sheep mouths, but their lips were light as feathers, and nary a slobber spot was to be found. You still want to wash up in the one bathroom, though (they have house-made camel milk soaps and lotions in there, in case you're wondering). From the sheep town, we headed into the store (tiny, crowded, and the only place you can buy the camel milk chocolates). I purchased camel rides for myself and my brother, then we headed over to the camel ride line to wait. On my short ride around the block, I learned that they had two camels that were pregnant, one bull camel (he's so proud), and one 4 month old newborn, named Trooper. I learned that one of the baby camels had had a rough start to life, but that they were able to nurse him into health, and that he's now thriving (can't remember if that was Trooper or another camel, to be honest). And I learned that camels are the sweetest and smartest creatures! From the camel rides, we went to find a place to stand for the animal show (the bleachers and seats were full up, if you can believe that, and none of us really relished the idea of sitting in the sand). The animal show was a lot of fun - slightly corny, highly entertaining, very educating - and I definitely recommend sticking around for that. Gil and Nancy are very proud of their farm, their family, and the animals, and it shows. Nancy's kind of a nut - she's got a great stage presence, and you can tell that she never lost the "bird show hostess" part of personality. They brought out a couple different birds, some turkeys and their corralling dog counterparts, and of course, a camel. Gil's presentation on the camels was informative and fun (I learned that camels aren't born spitting; it's something they do only if they're mistreated or bored.) I've thankfully never seen a camel spit, but now that I know that, I'm hoping that I never do. Nancy did a great job of corralling the kids, as well. There were a ton of them sitting up at the front of the viewing area, and some of them were acting up - throwing dirt, venturing too far onto the "stage", screaming and such (while their parents ignored them) - but Nancy handled them (and the parents) like a pro. Following the animal show, we went down to the gates to get closer to the camels (and Trooper, the baby was so cute!) before heading back to the car for the drive home. It was a lot more fun than I had expected, and that place was packed, which I didn't expect. I have a ton of respect for both Gil and Nancy, for their obvious affection for their dairy and the animals in their care. And I find that I love camels, now. We got to the dairy today (pomegranate day)and had prepaid online. We had several people in front of us who were buying tickets right then and had TONS of questions. There was a separate line for prepays, but the prepay person was helping these people as well. I'll be frank...dont waste your time if you dont have kids. As a couple we spent maybe 45 minutes and walked out. This event is very kid friendly, but if you dont have kids...I'd pass. The camels are fun and friendly. I wish they had a milking demonstration, the opportunity to see how the farm works, and stuff like that. Maybe even a camel race would be cool?The circus and shows we didnt watch because it's for kids and very crowded. $15 an adult is a lot to spend to feed one camel and some sheep. I was going to buy some camel goods, but the shop is very small and only a few people can fit. I'd suggest a couple things: * have a family package for tickets, so if you are just a couple of adults, you can pay for what you'll actually do (less than a family, who is likely to spend hours at the shows and things) *have someone only checking in prepaid(and nothing else) *have a large board of faqs or one "question answerer" so those people dont make the line super long *more bathrooms, as most people drive from far away Free parking was great Camels/sheep/turkeys were cute read more

I love a unique experience! The Oasis Camel Dairy is just that... My husband and I traveled to Ramona (towards Julian) to the Oasis Dairy, a special place that has been described as the first camel dairy in the US. It has been featured in a documentary and it has been in the news. The benefits of camel milk is often featured in regard to its efficacy in treating certain digestive disorders and its use in skin care products. The dairy is open for special events throughout the year. We attended the Watermelon Days, which was great for couples and families alike. The event featured bbq, a bird shows, a watermelon spitting competition, watermelon feeding and camel rides. The shop on-site was open during the event and I picked up a "Watermelon Camel Lotion"(you can test the product samples). This camel milk lotion is super soft and it reminds me a lot of goat milk. The shop imports camel milk chocolate from Dubai. It is $12.00 a bar. Due to the heat of the day - we chose not to purchase it! The highlight of the day was the camel ride. It was a bit short to accommodate all those who wanted a ride, but again it was the unique experience I was going for. The property includes 20 camels that provide the milk for the dairy, some turkeys, and at least 3 camels you can ride. It's a great place to take the little ones! Our group had 5 kids, ages 1 through 6 and they all had an amazing time! (Honestly, the adults did too!) Nancy was our tour guide and she was an absolute hoot! We had a lot of fun at the event(Open Tour, October 24) The cost to get in was $10.00 for adults, which is shown towards the middle of the page on the left of the website. Many people were there, and they have ample parking, but your car WILL get dusty. There was a crane, turkeys, chickens, parrots, a toucan....lotta birds...because....Gil(man who likes camels) married Nancy(woman who likes birds) and together Gil and Nancy Riegler own and operate the Oasis Camel Dairy. Nancy does bird shows too, under the name Pollywood Birds. They also have at least one horse, pygmy sheep and burros. There is a covered area by their cute shop(which sells beauty products, moisturizers, soaps(made by Oasis Camel Dairy) and chocolate imported from Arabia) which acts as sort of a pavilion for "the show". Nancy does an introduction of some of the dairy beasties and of Gil. He comes out with some of the camels, yesterday we got to meet Sheba(older female) and Samson(younger male)....Gil gives a lot of information about camels and shows some of the things they can do....but they don't really do "tricks"....camels have a mind of their own and do what they want to do, which was pretty hysterical. Nancy's birds were much better "trained" and they were pretty hysterical as well. Afterwards, guests are fairly free to wander the grounds, take pictures, ask questions and get a camel ride(at a fair cost, I think kids are $5.00, and adults are $10.00). The camel "herd" is fairly extensive, I think there were around 20 of them. We were there from 1:15 pm until 3:00 pm and it was time well spent. Came for a Saturday open farm event and was a bit let down. Firstly, the show is listed on their website to last 15-20 minutes. Ours lasted almost 45 minutes and our kids were beyond restless. The owners are nice but very long-winded. We payed the $15 for a "about 4 minute camel ride" and noticed the rides were awfully short. We timed our kids and it was exactly 1 minute 30 seconds. $30 for a minute and a half ride on the camel is way steep. I would just recommend updating your website to reflect the actual times each part of the experience lasts so people are better aware. 45 minutes is a long time for young kids to sit still and $15 for a 1 min 30 second camel ride is too steep. read more
