My experience with Oasis was entirely through an online catering order for small/medium sized group of people.
ATMOSPHERE/ARCHITECTURE: N/A/10
SERVICE: 4/10
When ordering the staff was kind and helpful. The order though was delivered late, which I am not sure was due to the order being finished late or if this was due to GrubHub's driver being late. I won't be so harsh from the late delivery for this reason. However, for a rather large order, I was shocked and dismayed that the order did not come with a single napkin or utensil. Unacceptable! Are we expected to shovel the rice and kebabs with our hands and live with this greasy mess? I am sorry, but even for a small order, one would expect at least serviceable utensils as a takeout meal. For a group catered order like this I would have expected more.
FOOD: 7/10
Falafel - 6/10 - The flavor was there with a nice crunchy coating as you would expect from falafel, however, I felt that it was a bit on the drier side. About average.
Beef/Lamb Kebab - 7/10 - I thought that the kebabs were well seasoned and the meat was cooked with a nice amount of char. Compared to the boundless number of Mediterranean restaurants, it was nothing impressive, but it makes par.
Hummus - 7/10 - Average hummus.
Sauces - 9/10 - Tzatziki, tahini and a red sauce. I thought that despite all of the average food, the sauces they had really shone through. Most of all was the tahini sauce. You could definitely smell the sesame as if it were freshly ground and made that day. I am not sure if this is the case, but if so, kudos to them for this. You can even taste the hint of lemon juice in it. Very impressed with the tahini.
VALUE: 4/10
Bad value for the price. For the $46 kebab tray to feed apparently ~10-12 people, it could barely service 8 people, which is rather disappointing. I don't really feel I got my value out of here for a large group setting. Maybe for individual orders it may be a good value, but it was not in my experience for a group.
PROBABILITY OF RETURN: 5/10
A straight 50/50 on this. Leaning more towards no. The only reason is I would want to see what an individual experience is like before I give my final judgement, but I don't know that I am so motivated to come back here. Maybe for the tahini sauce again.
TO EAT OR NOT TO EAT: Among the countless Mediterranean restaurants in Chicago, I am sorry to say I cannot definitively recommend this place. If you crave Mediterranean, check else where first.
