Amazing . A little pricey. But other than that. For a plain pie . Hits all the box's. Cheese, Sauce. Crispy and Thin.

    Newark style Italian Hot Dog

I heard about this place in a post from my friend Cheryl Pizzichillo. She mentioned the Newark style Italian Hot Dog. I'm always looking for a good one down here in Ocean County. Chomp was good but they're gone. Big Dogs Cafe is now in that spot but I won't pay $15 plus for a sandwich using tiny Sabretts. La Madre Maria serves one but uses even smaller Sabretts. Oakwood Pizza is about a 25-30 minute drive from me but I called ahead to make sure they would be serving an Italian Hot Dog and to confirm that it would be on pizza bread. Cheryl said in her post that it comes on pizza bread but I've found that a lot of pizzerias that serve an IHD alternate between pizza bread and sub rolls because unlike a place specializing in this sandwich, a pizzeria can't always determine demand. Many either run out when demand is high, forcing them to use the bread they make subs with, or have to throw out pizza bread when it gets old due to low demand. I learned that they had fresh pizza bread and used Best's hot dogs which I prefer to Sabrett. It makes a big difference to me. The better Italian Hot Dog joints like Jimmy Buffs, Tommy's, Big Blues, and Dickie Dees use Best's. So I left with high hopes. Oakwood's Point Pizza makes a great Italian Hot Dog. It is better than any I've had down here and in the same class as Buffs,Tommy's, and Big Blues. It's that good. The pizza bread is fresh and made in house. The dogs are Best's and fried perfectly. Although you can't see them, the peppers are soft like I prefer. And no one gives you more. There were a ton in there. The potatoes were in chunks and also plentiful. Delicious and hot. And a great value today considering inflation. Under $10 while everyone else is over, averaging between $11 and $15. A top notch Italian Hot Dog offering quality, quantity, and value. This will be my place for them. I hear the pizza and subs are very good also. Very highly recommended.

This just means we go and pick it up when we are heading in that direction. Their pizza is excellent! We're spoiled with so many great pizzerias in the area but they stand out here. Their buffalo wings are awesome too - decently priced. Shrimp parm - might be my all time favorite ever here. Just take one bite and you will be hooked. Their subs are also very good. Now that I've given a quick overview of the food, the reason why they get the fifth star from me is because of their customer service. The folks are always pleasant, and if on the slim chance there's an issue with your order, they will definitely work to rectify the situation. As I mentioned, we have a lot of great places around, but service is crucial. I also like that they post their lunch specials daily on social media outlets. It's nice to go and try something new. To the staff at Marias, thank you for the great meals we've had over the years. We shall see you soon!

I order the Shrimp Fra Diablo with spaghetti, it is always fresh and it is the best in this area! It comes with salad and bread, whoever makes it really knows what they are doing. Also, I always order the cheesy garlic bread, it's wonderful and compliments the meal!

Is this the best Italian restaurant I have ever been to?…read more Actually, yes, it is. And I have been to a lot of Italian restaurants. The wait for a table was 45 minutes, but it was worth every minute. The food was delicious, the service was impeccable, and the atmosphere was wonderful. We ended up being seated in a back patio room and though it was very hot outside (one of those 100 degree days last summer), it was actually very nice in there. The show started with someone asking for our drink order, then coming back with said drinks. After that she brought out some starts on the house, courtesy of chef and owner Joe. We were off to a great start! Soon after she returned to get our dinner order. After that, Chef Joe himself showed up to our table to thank us for visiting his restaurant and ask how we liked things so far. We let him know those starters were perfect...eggplant balls and a corn/tomato salad. Eventually our dinner came. Both dishes were waaaaaaaay more food than either of us expected. I had ordered chicken with mozzarella squares on top and drizzled in balsamic, which was a special created by Chef Joe's wife, according to the menu. My partner got eggplant parm...and wow, what a pile of food it was. Two huge eggplant pieces piled high with delicious sauce and served with some delectable pasta. Chef Joe came back to the dining room awhile later to ask people how their entrees were, and we let him know this was a great experience. I want to go back to Point Pleasant just to get here again. This time I will make a reservation.

What an experience! Spano's is exactly what you'd want an Italian restaurant to be. The food is…read moreamazing. The customer service is exceptional. The ambiance is perfection. The night started with Joe Spano, the owner, stopping at our table to bring several little dishes before we even had a chance to look at the menu. The meatballs (made with actually no meat but rather eggplant) were pure sorcery...like so good there aren't words. He noticed our wine bottle (it's BYOB so come prepared!), and by pure coincidence, it was his favorite bottle. Joe asked to show another costumer because they had been discussing wines earlier, and he wanted to make sure they got to see the label. If that wasn't personal enough, the walls are adorned with black and white framed photographs of family from back in the day to the present. The environment is clean, well-maintained, and cozy. Every bite we had was exceptional and the portions were huge! We left contently full but with plenty of leftovers. I'm quite sure every meal will exceed the expectations of even the pickiest of eaters. Our server, Brian (or Bryan) was new but attentive and informative. He spent time talking with his tables and being personable while also making sure everyone was taking care of. Overall, I highly recommend experiencing a meal at Spano's at least once....but after your first bite, you'll likely be making your next reservation before you leave (like we saw many people do)!
