Mediterranean Egg White omelette 6.15.14

3.5* rounded up to 4 because: My extended family is here at least twice a week, I had two snacks and breakfast and loved it all. The servers are super friendly, the owner was helping with seating and expediting on Father's Day, which was super busy but we were seated in a timely fashion. My Aunt and Uncle always go after mass, and this family run, kinda divey joint all greet them and know orders. Like the "Cheers" of NY diners if you will. My Uncle always has the "classic" French Toast (which means it is on thin white bread, not the expected challah) two eggs, bacon and coffee it must be perfect for him, because Stephanie our waitress knew what he'd order. My Aunt had a short stack of buttermilk pancakes with eggs and bacon and both enjoyed their meals and coffee. My pictured Mediterranean egg white omelette was delicious, overflowing with veggies a nice bite from feta cheese and the eggs were fluffy; hash browns were well seasoned yet undercooked for my taste but I didn't order them extra crispy. Water was refilled frequently and my green tea with honey was fine. Aside from limited hours - which I get in a family joint - this is all you could ask for in a neighborhood diner. Love being able to grab a newspaper or two, talk to the staff and enjoy good food and great service. Quite sure we will be back next month when I'm home again, that is what I like about this place: I'm a fan of all things HOME. There is no place like home (even though I never lived on SI it is in NY which makes it count :) See you soon!

Went last night with the family for dinner. We had just started going here on a recommendation from my mother in law. First time we went there, they were still in the middle of their renovation and expansion. The food was fine; nothing crazy good, nothing bad, just average diner fare that was slightly different than Mike's on New Dorp and Andrew's on Hylan. I remember ordering the grilled chicken with sautéed spinach. No complaints there. Wife had a burger, cooked right, fries hot. The kid got the open turkey sandwich. The gravy on the turkey was obviously NOT turkey gravy, but beef gravy (it was dark brown). OK its all pretty much the same thing so who cares. Service was difficult to say the least. The main counter is in the back, as is the owner, the kitchen and all the waitstaff were huddled like a gaggle of geese, gossiping incessantly. Still, I can forgive that. People are people. Then the camel's back was broken last night. The Wife likes to occasionally have breakfast for dinner. Who doesn't? So she orders an omelette. Cheddar and bacon, pretty simple fare. She always asks for the cook not to dry it out; she hates a dry omelette. So the food comes to the table. She begins to eat it and something isn't right. She proceeds to pull a piece of bacon put of her mouth that was undercooked. OK, move onto the next bite. Now it's not undercooked, but on the edge of raw. It was as if the bacon was folded into the omelette raw and it only cooked a little bit while the egg cooked. How does a mistake like that happen? The waiter, an extremely nice man, shaved head with a local accent apologizes, offers to remake or replace and my wife goes for a grilled cheese which came out perfect. The waiter advised us that of course the omelette was coming off the bill but in addition to that the grilled cheese was free as well. Mike Jr., I commend you on an excellent waitstaff (when they are available) and your handling of the situation was spot on. But now the psychological effect of that raw bacon is hard to get over. Hopefully your kitchen staff smartens up, and I hope something like that never comes out of your kitchen again. But as far as we're concerned, we can't come back after an incident like that. I wish you the best of luck in the future.

Can't tell the difference between sausage and bacon. How do you get that wrong? I don't understand how inept people are.

Service was terrible. The food was cold, not a friendly place in the bathroom was disgusting. It's not worth the money.

The pasta was extremely delicious with the sauce being creamy and savory but not overly rich; highly recommend giving it a shot! We liked it a bit softer so if you aren't too big of a fan for al dente, definitely make sure you let your server know ahead of time. The short rib grilled cheese was on the sweeter side and the roasted garlic was a bit too light for me to notice it. However, Enrique recommended the ju on the side to dip which definitely added a whole new layer of flavor complexity to it, which helped make the dish more enjoyable. Personally, I recommend a bit more garlic which can definitely enhance the dish to its fullest, a simple fix! We also got the street corn pizza, which was very flavorful and provided a great balance between its creaminess and savoriness! The pizza dough was thin and chewy, which provided a fun textural contrast, highly recommend as well! The lobster bisque was a pretty decent size that came with the lunch special, however the one we got didn't have any lobster in it, but Enrique remedied the situation and apologized for the mishap, showing how diligent he was to make sure everything was as perfect as can be and we really appreciated it! Overall, we had such a wonderful experience and we can't wait to come back to try their many other selections! If anything is not to your liking or can be prepared better, don't hesitate to let your server know for they will not hesitate to make it right. Please give J's On The Bay a try and I promise you won't regret it! Thank you for reading and best of luck! (:

I ordered a deluxe burger which per their website comes with onions.i asked for extra pickles and extra onions. I received 5 DIMe size pickles and NO ONIONS forget about extra. I also asked for sausage and eggs with NO butter because of dairy allergy . They completed botched the order. I called up was out to two different employees, told I shouldn't order through Uber Eats when I said I didn't they said oh well don't do it online( why have the option on your website then) and I figured since no one pays attention at least if it was in paper they would read it.. I was then told they'll talk to the kitchen and hung up on me I will never spend my hard earned money there again . I spent $40 for my dinner time ruined and it's not about money it's the principle . Respect your patrons and will they come back. Without them you have no business . Do yourself a favor , there are a bunch of diners go somewhere else . Also cold slaw looks like 'tis going bad and smells like tuna Maybe this is why they don't have A rating from Dept of health.
