Always go to mikes diner. Decided to place order through their website for delivery. I specifically put instructions on the mobile order THROUGH the website ( not 3rd party like Uber Eats or anything) . I ordered a deluxe burger which per their website comes with onions.i asked for extra pickles and extra onions. I received 5 DIMe size pickles and NO ONIONS forget about extra. I also asked for sausage and eggs with NO butter because of dairy allergy . They completed botched the order. I called up was out to two different employees, told I shouldn't order through Uber Eats when I said I didn't they said oh well don't do it online( why have the option on your website then) and I figured since no one pays attention at least if it was in paper they would read it.. I was then told they'll talk to the kitchen and hung up on me I will never spend my hard earned money there again . I spent $40 for my dinner time ruined and it's not about money it's the principle . Respect your patrons and will they come back. Without them you have no business . Do yourself a favor , there are a bunch of diners go somewhere else . We were not given breakfast specials menu by the host or the server, had to ask after another table questioned their own server. So is this a practice to give the higher priced menus unless you're a regular or you happen to ask? Made me feel like they were trying to get over. Also charged 3.95 for a tea refill . If we were told that would've been fine , but when my mom asked for some more tea, the server said you want a teabag or just hot water? Went in last night We were the ONLY customers in the place. We ordered 2 cheeseburgers (medium rare) with an order of onion rings. Along with a cup of chicken noodle soup and a French Onion soup. The chicken noodle soup came out and shortly thereafter the burgers came out. The burgers were WELL WELL DONE ! Never got the onion rings or the French Onion Soup The waiter apologized twice once for soup not coming out and again for the absence of the onion rings ! So all we received were the disgustingly overdone burgers and a cup of soup.. Total bill 32.00 and change !?? Ordered nachos grande which is basically $20. I paid 20 bucks for missions round tortilla chips with cheese whiz poured on top with a piece of grilled chicken and sprinkled tomato. I could've made this at home for five bucks. It wasn't even thoughtfully put together, all the chips on the bottom were dry but everything on top with smothered in cheese whiz. When I called, the older lady on the phone said that's the way it comes. I told her that it doesn't say on the menu that it is drenched in cheese whiz. After living on Staten Island for over 30 years my wife and I decided to have breakfast at Mikes Place. It was fairly empty for a Friday morning, we came in and waited to be seated. The waitress was sitting at the back booth on her phone. We were greeted and seated. We ordered omelette's. Mine was a ham and cheese omelette and my wife's was a mozzarella omelette. They were very large and filled very well. They came with home fries. I asked for mine to be crispy but I didn't notice that it was any different from my wife's home fries. I was looking for the waitress and saw her leaning against the counter on the other side of the diner on her phone...again. Hoping to get my coffee refilled. When we were done I got my check and noticed my omellete was priced at $15.99, different from what the menu had - $13.95. Maybe because I had ham and cheese ? Overall the food was fine, the service could have been better and as far as the price - I feel I was overcharged because when I got home and went online to look at their menu - my omellette should have been $13.95. Two stars because convenience of location at best. This diner has been a staple of the community for a few generations now. I recall going here as a child when it still had pink Formica at the entry way with the letters MIKES built into it. Such better times. Even up to about 2003-2006 it was a decent place to go late night with friends or Sunday mornings for brunch. They have a liquor license, so that's one star minimum. It's sad to say that it had drastically declined from my former hay days on the island. After swinging by my parents we decided to all go out to MIKES. We went around 12/1215pm, customer traffic was light & parking was abundant. Grabbed a seat for all 6 of us to sit at in the rear section. They seated us rather quickly & they were friendly. After being seated the waitress came by & took the drink order & dropped menus. Nothing fancy, just a kids chocolate milk & cokes. Those came out rather quick, maybe 10 minutes past. Now for the food order, granted we were a bit indecisive at first, all 6 orders were in within 5 minutes. However, can't say the food came out as fast as the drinks, being it had to be cooked/plated/defrosted or what have you. Order placed around 12:30pm and food eventually showed up around 1:10pm (knowingly because I have photos to reference kids food coming out) So, kids food comes at 1:10pm, moms cheese quesadilla right after & then wife's tuna melt at 1:12pm (another photo time stamp of food in flight to wife) & sisters tuna scoop & egg salad scoop (I recommend avoiding the egg salad) Pops eggplant parm comes out maybe another minute after. So, they all got their food by 1:15pm So I'm just sitting & waiting... & waiting.... & waiting... Eventually after setting off a elaborate display of fireworks They got the waitress to return to the back section. To her surprise, sees me gnawing at the Formica lined table foaming at the mouth. So, id say by 130pm I got my turkey burger deluxe. Which had to be as dry as a cigar I forgot in my truck over the winter. I mean, this thing was almost inedible. I requested a plethora of red unions & honey mustard & quite literally drowned the patty. I'm talking CIA/FBI water boarding with honey mustard. Didn't help at all. At this point my father wanted some pie & I adamantly said it's to go. I'm not sitting here begging for coffee & pie when I can go shopping & bake it myself within the time they bring it to us. Again, I went to the front & paid with a smile & left the waitress a tip, although we quite literally had to stand up & get the other waitress to get our waitress to assist us (I'm not a scumbag, I've worked customer service before) NOTE : I didn't get the busboys name, but he was/is the backbone of that place. Honestly, if not for him, I don't think we'd have survived. He was incredibly friendly & actually ran & grabbed us drinks & other items in our waitresses extended absence. I hope these people are splitting their tips with the busboys. So, I'm just leaving off with, no, I wouldn't recommend this place unless you're in dire need of bland & dry food. I understand Covid has had an effect across the board on literally everyone. But if you're cutting staff & customer service, it's a recipe for disaster (Although I hope this place stays around and makes a rebound) Im not for anyone losing a job or closing a business. The burgers were average to good and the fries were perfect. Service was also fine. We finished up eating and while waiting for the check.... Spotted a very very large rat walking on the floor in the middle of the diner seating area. Jumped up and walked over to register. I'm not a fan of Mikes Diners in general but they serve a purpose. My love for an ordinary Grilled Cheese Sandwich and Pickle. This is for when I don't want to have to think about food. This was my first time to this Mikes. It was clean, waitress was friendly and attentive. It always so pricy for a 2* dinner who's food is just premade stuff in the freezer and reheated. My basic grilled cheese was burned. It left an awful bitter burner flavor. When you pay $6 for a craft singles piece of yellow melty cheese between 2 pieces of griddled bread with no sides and you burn it? Come on they should have never let this leave the kitchen. I ordered a side of Sweet Potato Fries. Delicious, shoestring crispy sweetness. They even reheated at home that night when I had the leftover fries. The Egg Bacon Sandwich was tasty and hit the spot. We stopped in here for a quick dinner before a wake we were going to on Staten Island. We were greeted by a friendly staff and were taken to a large booth in the corner. The waitress was friendly and took our drink orders very quick. I had a bacon cheeseburger deluxe. It was excellent. A nice sized burger grilled to perfection. My son had a chicken wrap. He loved it because he ate the whole thing and said it was very good. The waitress was very kind to my daughter who has autism and even gave the kids cookies when we left.
