I had a self made disaster with my Weber propane grill. The drip pan was filled, I had not checked it and when some hot grease hit the wrong spot, I had a nasty fire in the cabinet that burned out the wiring. I contacted Weber who claims to have a service referral but after 3-4 attempts I gave up. An internet search pointed me to Oakland Ace for the repair. Everyone I dealt with to schedule the repair, receive updates on when Weber would send them the parts and the service tech himself were all 5 star awesome. Superb job was done and I cannot recommend them any higher. Oakland is lucky to have this Ace in town. read more

Great local shop. From gifts and grills, to nuts and bolts, this store has everything you need. The people are extremely friendly, and although the aisles are a little tight, you can't go wrong by shopping here! Get there early and often! read more

I dunno, used to cherish this place under the prior 'administration' now it's just the closest. Think Suffern will have to do from now on. Had some confusion over a sale price noted on the internet and at the register. Instead of helping to clear up the problem I was just given a shrug and the phrase 'it's not on sale'. Decided to skip it and checked my phone once inside the car. Went back to the store and was greeted as "mr happy" (aloud to the whole store) and I showed them the ref to the $2 off and the mentioned checking the sku. Convenient, helpful, wonderful resource for the projects around the house. I appreciate the fact the staff truly tries to solve a problem if they can. It is rare they don't have what I need and it certainly easier than going to the Orange or Blue warehouse store!! Interesting factoid (I think), I saw the Chairman of Lowe's speak about 5 years ago, he said Home Depot and Lowe's combined only had 26% of the national market share of the home improvement market. Oakland Hardware and all the other local operations (Ace, True Value, 84 Lumber, Menards, Scotty's, etc.) have over 70% market. Best hardware store PERIOD. Everyone there is knowledgeable and helpful. As a woman, I love walking through the store and seeing all of the items. Boy, there is not a better store around than the local Oakland Hardware. It should really change its name to Oakland Housewares because this place has everything you could ever ask for. A fine selection of not only the screws and tools needed, but also anything i'll need in their auto section or the wide variety of high quality grill equipment there. There's so much in the store that i'm practically lost in a maze every time. Thankfully the guys behind the counter are really good, and know their stuff, and there's always someone in the isles helping to direct me to what I need. The Big Green Egg demonstration they had in October was a hit, and it was a great way to show off just how much your grill matters. A friend of mine bought a Weber there and told me its free assembly and delivery. I'll need to take advantage that of next summer! Oakland Hardware is great, and a fantastic store all around. Its not about helping the little guy here, its the fact that we have a amazing local store that many other communities dont have. read more

I went in to Oakland hardware yesterday with a desk lamp that needed a new bulb (Staples wasn't able to help me). They not only had the bulb, the gentleman took the lamp apart & replaced the bulb for me (it took over 10 minutes because part of the lamp was broken). Lived here in Wayne and never visited this store . What a great selection of household tools and other items.

Needed a ladder and phoned them to find out the sizes they had, an abrupt young woman answered the phone and put me on hold for full 5 minutes. She then got back on the line and told me the they had a 5 foot, a 7 foot an 8 foot etc. Based on her information, we drove 45 minutes to get there, but only to find out they didn't have a 5 foot. When we inquired who the young woman we spoke with was, the woman we spoke with abruptly and rudely interrupted, to say that it was her we spoke with and that she checked the inventory in her computer, and that's it's not always accurate. My question is, if you know that the computer is not accurate why wouldn't you physically check the store inventory? When we asked a gentleman behind the counter if he is the manager, he replied by saying " I am a nobody" - we then asked for someone to help us find another ladder, they sent us to someone who works in that area and who couldn't be bothered to help us. They are rude, lazy, abrupt, unhelpful and have a nasty attitude Will never shop there again. read more

These guys are lifesavers. When True Value in Franklin Lakes, and Hardware Station in Wyckoff closed, they were going strong. The only "attitude" I encountered was one of helpfulness. These guys helped me find all the stuff I need for every project and offer suggestions to boot. You will not find this in Home Despot of Lowes. And the prices are commensurate with the big box shops. Try em' and you WILL be back. Again and again. Count me as a loyal customer. read more

Oakland hardware store is the best local hardware store in the whole area. I have been going to Oakland Hardware for over 13 years and most of the time I find what I need without asking for help. However, if I can't find what I need, the guys that work there are very knowledgeable, friendly and always willing to help out. Even the owner makes himself available, he may not be as enthusiastic as the other guys, but he will point you in the right direction. I wanted to say a special "thanks" to George, because he really helped us out !! My wife had a piece of plexiglass that needed a specific cut and it was very important not to crack it or break it. We brought it into Oakland hardware and spoke to George. He understood the complexity of the problem, gave it some thought, and brought it in the back of the store. Ten minutes later he emerged and had done a perfect cut on the plexiglass. He only charged us a few bucks. We were very pleased and very thankful to George. I have always been a loyal customer at Oakland Hardware and now my wife has joined the ranks. read more

So glad to have the store in the neighborhood. They pretty much have a little bit of everything. The guys that work there really know their stuff. Joe did a great job rescreening my patio door. He's very passionate about screens. Will Fred helped me fix my computer. He's the man to go to with anything electric. George sharpened my scissors. I have been going to this Hardware store for years. THE ONLY REASON I GO IS BECAUSE IT IS CONVENIENT! The staff is so rude, they never offer to help the customers.
