What a wonderful refuge from the stresses of life. There's such a beautiful ease about this space and uplifting energy each time I visited. From the decor and lighting, to the tea and chocolates, as well as the coloring activities, I felt a healthy escape from the outside world to find time to recharge and visit my inner world. I got to take classes with 3 different instructors, including the studio founder, and they each had beautiful grounding presence. The class size is intimate allowing the instructor to provide feedback and guidance. All the props are in great condition. Certainly recommend this yoga studio for practicing with intentionality rather than heat or speed. read more

I'm in the market for a new yoga studio, so I bought their unlimited week pass to check it out. Their website is really easy to navigate and I appreciate their class descriptions and instructor bios. I selected a couple in person classes and went to my first in person session excited to visit a studio that a couple of friends had recommended. First, the location is a bit odd, as I had been warned, but it's not nearly as difficult to find as people made it out to seem. Parking for my mid-day class was easy. I arrived about 10 minutes early and was greeted and given a tour of the studio, which is really charming and seemed to have all the amenities you might want. I love that they have a token system to indicate whether you're okay with being touched, storage spaces for your personal items, and a very calming light/curtain set up. The instructor and the class itself were fine! I've practiced yoga (mostly at home) for many years and was easily able to drop into the flow and pace of the class. I really love that the floor is cushioned and comfortable. It seems like there is a good range of class style options, but I did wish there were more options for classes (an early morning option would be ideal!) I also wish I had gotten a chance to take more classes in person, but I decided to take the remaining couple of classes that fit into my schedule virtually. After that first class, I overheard a complaint to the instructor about how their household was experiencing covid (?!?!?! I 100% realize this is not something a studio can control, but it made me feel uncomfortable that someone in such a seemingly health conscious, community-oriented, and small space would feel ok exposing people to potential risk like that.) Obviously I didn't get the same community feel in the livestreamed classes, but I did still feel somewhat included and able to communicate with the instructor, had I needed to. Big ups to O+L for offering virtual options for their classes to make them more accessible. It's still on my "to consider" list of studios to potentially join at the end of my search bc I appreciated the the convenient location, affordable cost of the trial + membership, body-neutral/positive approaches, and cozy space. read more

Oak + Lotus is without doubt one of the BEST yoga experiences in Austin. This is not pretentious Instagram yoga; this is authentic, grounded, community-oriented yoga as it should be. I especially appreciate that the classes are labeled by activity level and the instructors actually stick to that; i.e. if you're wanting a chill restorative class, you won't accidentally find yourself in a sweaty power flow based on whichever instructor you happen to get (a problem at a lot of other Austin studios). The space is BEAUTIFUL with so many little thoughtful touches--the cushioned floor, the little chocolate bites pre and post class, tea dispensers, scented eye masks. They also hold regular sound bath classes and events. I've loved absolutely every class I've taken there so far! My first class at the studio, the teachers and staff as well as several studio members were super friendly and welcomed my wife and I into the community with so much excitement and warmth! The energy here is just awesome. Best of all, it's AFFORDABLE which in this economy is everything. If you're in South Austin, you should make this your home studio!! read more

It has been tricky to find a yoga studio that I've enjoyed in the South Austin area, so I am so glad that I found Oak + Lotus! All of the instructors and employees are kind, thoughtful, and genuine. You can tell that they care about your well-being more than anything, and they won't pressure you to commit to a specific membership or anything you may be unready for. They are also all very accepting of all types of people, which can be hard to find in a yoga studio. The studio is set up with tokens laid out at each spot so you can let the instructor know if you're comfortable with them correcting your form by touch, which I think is extremely thoughtful. In addition, they host some cool events if you ever want to spice up your yoga routine! Overall, I've found every class challenging but comfortable, which has been really great for someone who enjoys yoga but still feels like a beginner. The online option is also really great for those days when driving to class maybe be inconvenient or hard to fit in your schedule. I'm so glad I found this studio, and I'm excited to see how it grows into its new location later this month! read more

I love oak + lotus and am so happy such a lovely studio is close to my neighborhood. The yoga here isn't about competition with others but more so growing your own practice with your self. This place is also big on community and I have found everyone to be super welcoming. They also offer a nice variety of classes where I can swap between yin yoga, relaxed flow and spicy when I'm looking for something more challenging. read more

Took my frist class today and LOVED IT. Been looking for a more chill and relaxed type of yoga studio that is not so heavily focused on more rapid paced position changes, and cramming a lot of people in a large space. The classes are more intimate and there is a couple of beginner level classes taught several times a week that are outside the 8-5 hours. Love the set up and the waiting area, and the studio is properly padded unlike... let's say a certain colored bird studio. Instructions are easy to follow and I didn't feel like I had to panic and look to other students for reference. Their packages are priced decently and will totally sign up when my trail period ends! read more

I was bummed to learn of the DC location closure, but I'm so happy I've been able to continue taking classes with Alia & Co. online! I enjoyed a handful of in-person classes and an excellent workshop prior to the pandemic, but having a monthly online pass has really helped me to practice more. Alia puts so much care into designing her studio, classes, and workshops, which makes for an awesomely welcoming and motivating experience. I'm not quite feeling ready for the "spicy" level classes yet, but have been easing the work-from-home stiffness with the various mild to medium level classes, and I'm going through the "Foundations of Flow" videos to get some help with my form. Alia is great at explaining the proper alignment/technique with poses and transitions, which is so fantastic for beginners, people with injuries, or anyone who just wants to learn more. I don't expect to be in Austin soon, but when I am, I'll definitely pop into the studio. Anyone who's local is super lucky to have Alia and her studio there! We have a regular Yoga practice at home in Michigan. Visiting family in Austin, we found Oak & Lotus on the Mind & Body App. The owner Aila is super welcoming, and made us right at home. Don't let the faculty local bother you. It's a funky cool industrial area back near a distillery and St Elmos brewery. Really awesome food truck back there too. Oak & Lotus has a good assortment of classes, and qualified fun instructors. I could make this place my Yoga home for sure. read more

Beautiful airy and COVID safe space with ample parking and nice areas for lounging about before or after class. They also have a nice little array of gorgeously curated items for sale in their retail area. The yoga was great, Pam taught a beautiful class. This area of South Austin needs a yoga studio. The space that Alia created is beautiful. Every detail has been thought out with love from the free dark chocolate bites available at each class to the cozy seating, and the luxurious lavender eye pillows. It's tucked away in the back of the Yard in St. Elmo, but there is plenty of parking and once you find it for the first time it's easy to find again. I took a relaxed flow class and enjoyed the alignment based instruction. The floor is thick and padded which is tricky for balance poses but is great on the knees. It's nice not having to move a blanket on and off of my mat when doing low lunges. This is a small woman owned business where all yoga bodies are welcome. I would recommend trying it out and seeing if it is your jam. read more

I can't recommend this place enough, and I don't know how I will ever find another studio this good. The ambience is incredible once you walk in. Yummy infused water and chocolate all the time! I was pregnant during my time coming to classes, and I loved the prenatal classes and the Medium flow classes that the instructors taught me how to adjust my needs with. It's a little tricky to find the place, so make sure you give yourself plenty of time your first time. All of the yoga instructors are incredible and invested in you. The owner, Alia, is super responsive and helpful. They give plenty of opportunities to give feedback and are always wanting to know how to make your practice more meaningful. They take a lot of special efforts to make the place be a mental break whenever you can make it through the door! I'm not great at being on time to class, and they let me in right after the centering they do at the beginning if I am late. Once your class is finished, they have a really cozy area to visit with people and connect. The instructors check in with every person pretty much every class, and are always ready to answer questions about your practice. I could go on forever about this place! This place has made me so much better in every way. read more
