It's really easy to register - you complete 3 forms which you can either collect in the surgery or print from the website. You do have to live in either G3, G11 or G12 postcodes to register. There are advance and on the day appointments available as well as telephone consultations. I've only ever met Dr MacLaren and have always received an excellent and efficient service. This practice offers a really wide range of services including online patient access to repeat prescriptions, online cancellations and the ability to update your personal information. I love a technologically advanced public service! Everything is available here from travel health advice and services, house calls, stop smoking and children's health services. I love the prescription collection service where you can collect repeat prescriptions directly from the dinky wee Boots along the road. I've never really had cause to rave about a GP practice before but this one is truly fantastic!

There are usually approx five or six doctors in practice and same again in nurses. They provide an excellent service. You are guaranteed an emergency appointment within 48hrs but is usually same day and if you just need to speak to someone they have telephone consultations. If you need to see the nurse no appointment is needed and you don't have to wait long to see her. They have also started evening appointments for people with 9-5 jobs who normally find it difficult to see a doctor. Reception staff are also really good and I find myself really lucky to have such a good doctor's practice on my doorstep.

This was recommended to me by one of our new neighbours so I went down and registered as a new…read morepatient recently. First impressions are extremely favourable. The reception desk is accessible either by stairs or a ramp and is situated just inside the main door, on the right, and the receptionists are friendly and helpful. The modern building is light and airy with an unusual triangular open-plan waiting area with a high glass roof. Cushions would be nice on the wooden seats but that's just a small point and not worth taking off one of the five stars. I've now seen a nurse and one of the doctors and liked both of them straightaway; they both inspired confidence and were very pleasant. There's a car park immediately to the left of the building or, if that's full, there are metered spaces on the main road.

The staff here have literally been here since I was born and though I no longer get given a lolly every time I come, I'm still treated wonderfully here, as is everyone. The only reason this place doesn't get 5 stars from me is because there is one doctor who works here, who I obviously won't name, who is incredibly subpar in his practice and I always feel really uncomfortable every time I have to see him because he's just simply not a good doctor in my opinion, I prefer getting someone else who works there. Apart from that though, the staff are always incredible and treat you with care and make you feel better!

The woman behind the desk unfortunately didn't know what she was doing and didn't know how to register me. On top of that, her children (I assume) were running around in the back office. When I went back on my next available day to try register I was simply told by a gruff unpleasant (differen) woman behind the reception that they won't register me because I am already with a GP in Hamilton. No offer of an explaination why or when this might change, but a look that basically said 'leave now'. So I did, and won't bother coming back to try again.

What most people are concerned with I imagine is actually getting an appointment so let me break it down. Appointments - I'm not going to pretend it's easy. 8.30am the lines open for that days appointment and semi-urgent appointments for the next few days. Prepare for the engaged tone! There aren't many! It's the same if you require a call back from the GP too. If your appointment isn't classed as an emergency you're looking at a wait of anywhere between two to six weeks... Nurse services - pretty good and reliable. Appointments come out when you expect them too and results are either on time or earlier. Midwife services - excellent. As with the nursing services above. Most appointments are at the MPCC but scans are at Roodlands in Haddington or at the Royal dependent on how simple or complex your pregnancy is. Health team - hmmm...good and bad experiences. It took several months to get my child seen when we moved into the area. Given his age at the time we should have been within two weeks. They also missed his immunisations by a few months! The office staff seemed incompetent. That problem looks to have been solved second time around of dealing with them... Staff - pretty good. If you call during peak times...I would expect a ray of sunshine to beam through the phone but if you're pleasant with them you can expect the same in return. The GPs themselves are a mixed bag but I wouldn't expect anything else really. There are a couple that are incredibly diligent and others that are willing to give you your allotted time and that's it. All in all not a bad practice. I've experienced worse.

When I moved to Glasgow earlier this year, I found myself with the prospect of finding a doctors…read moresurgery. I did a quick search on the net and wrote down a few addresses, and then headed off to do a bit of a reccy. The first few surgeries on my list looked so awful that I didn't even go in. I was starting to wonder whether they had ANY nice looking surgeries in my area when I finally came across one that looked just about alright. I went in to find a very crowded small room, and dubiously asked the receptionist whether I could register with them. Unfortunately, she told me that they weren't registering patients at the moment - and pointed me in the direction of Abingdon Medical Practice on Stewartville Street. When I reached Stewartville Street, I swear a breathed a massive sigh of relief. Not only was it very clean and pleasant looking, when I got in it was bright airy and nearly empty. Registering was really quick and easy. It's easy to get an appointment, once you get there you don't usually have to wait for too long, and they have a large selection of magazines in the waiting room. The receptionists are also really nice, not like the grumpy ones you normally find in health practices. Basically, just about everything you could ask for from a doctors surgery.

So, signing up at a new GP for me was shaping up to be a bit of an ordeal but it really wasn't. The sign up was painless, the reception was so easy to deal with and friendly too. The following day I got a doctor appointment, even met the nurse who was very warm and friendly, made me feel right at home. So far, great experience with this medical practice. This surgery in my estimation does not deserve a rating atall…read more They badly need to get their act together, train their staff in good customer services skills and to point out to certain staff members, that they are there to offer a kind and good service. The surgery isn't in the better part of the town and obviously has to deal with some difficult clients, but that's their job, they are paid to do that.
