This was the first time stopping on and the experience lived up the expectations set by fellow Yelpers and the commercials: great service and great help! I had an unusual question and the older gentleman working the cashier till at the front of the store not only offered flexibility with his answer, but also great service on the way out (and sharing a story behind the name "WD-40" :) The store is logically arranged; the pricing can be comparable the big box brands (the tags spread across various items on shelving seem to suggest rotating sales that help with cost also). I just bought a barbeque cleaning tool called "scrub daddy". I am totally tired of either using something with bristles that break off and fall into our food, or something that's plastic and burns on the barbeque and leaves plastic residue to be transferred to our food... So I went into Home Hardware looking for a solution and they suggested this scrub daddy brush. I've just used it for the first time. I did not use ice water. I just use cold water and soaked it in the water for one minute while the barbeque is warming up to 325°... I thought I'd keep it under the 350° limit they suggest. And it took two swipes to clean all the residue off my barbeque so I'm ready to grill a steak.! impressive! Home Hardware!! read more

I was only there to get drywall screws for a reno job i was doing. Said this is my store and i can do the fn i want! Called me a fn prick and to leave! because i asked him why he was watching me 3 feet away from me. Continued to call me a fn prick until i left! He said i have lots an money and screws, get the fn out of my store! he stood 3 feet away from me arms folded and watched an glared at me! i hate racism, i never yelled back until he called me a prick! So i said, well yr as tall as one! And he got mad! he blocked me from leaving the isle and i asked him to move so i cud go pay and he told me to go around him! i brought bag of screws to counter where he said i have screws n money! leave the store, take the screws! I'm pleased to say that the customer service and selection of products in this hardware store is usually very good. When I ask for help I usually get it. Today the ol' fella was extremely helpful. I'm pleased to say that he helped me buy the right product and explained (patiently) how to install it. I'm am thrilled to say that I fixed my own plumbing problem and saved myself at least a hundred bucks. Very pleased!! :) Thank you Oak Bay Home Hardware!! Took my older Home Hardware Shop Vac in to see if I could buy vacuum bags to fit. I was told by JORDAN that I had to buy a 2 bag package for $20 dollars and he could not open the bag to see if the bag would fit. After much arguing I decided to buy the 2 bag package. Got it home and it was totally wrong. This store is all about their packaging bullshit and not what works for the customer. This is the 3rd time I have purchased items with their new packaging rammed down my throat. From now on I will drive to Hillside Canadian Tire where they bend over backwords to make you happy. read more

I purchased ceiling paint from Home Hardware and had it all tinted the same colour (Benjamin Moore cloud white). While I was painting I discovered that some of the paint was not the same colour (mistinted). I spent hours painting and repainting sections of the ceiling and determining which paint had been mistinted. Having lost faith that Home Hardware could provide properly tinted paint, I went to a Benjamin Moore dealer and purchased replacement paint needed to complete the job. I returned to Home Hardware to return the mistinted paint for a refund. The manager told me she was not willing to provide a refund and would try to retint the paint. I have no confidence that Home Hardware would successfully retint tint the paint to the correct colour since they mistinted the paint in the first place, nor do I want or need the paint since the job is now complete. I expressed my desire to lodge a complaint and she told me the store owner would phone me later that day. I never received a response from the store owner, nor did the owner respond to my BBB complaint. read more
