These threats were made despite me not saying a word to them and avoiding the tenant due to their erratic behavior with other people within the complex. When I brought to managements attention they insisted they would handle it but it kept happening and it seems like they did nothing but hoped it would just go away. It stopped for a little while, but happened again a year later with the same tenant but much more intense including the tenant pretending she was a lawyer and using a false "Flora Apartments" letterhead on one of her notes and they still did nothing. Additionally, when my longtime roommate and friend passed away very suddenly. It was like pulling teeth trying to get them to communicate with me about next steps with my lease. I had to email several times a day to even chance getting a response. I would even try asking for windows where I could contact them via phone to discuss this or set up a meeting And they would either be late or not in office. When all was said and done, it felt like they were very heartless about the situation. It may be because the management team is short-staffed and they are spread between three to manage. That being said when you can contact the management team, they are nice enough, the maintenance team are top-tier (Sam and Joe you rule) And the community within the complex is some of the best people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing (excluding the crazy one that leaves threatening notes) .

To start with the positive: * The location in downtown Walnut Creek is perfect - walkable to everything. * The units are spacious (especially the two-story units). * The building is very well constructed, and very well sound-proofed. We have never heard the slightest sound from a neighbor, and can run a very loud blender in the kitchen, and not even really hear it in the bedrooms. * The amenities (pool, common spaces, gym etc) are fine, given that it is a smaller building. * The on-site maintenance staff are excellent. Now, to the much longer list of the negative: * The units are advertised as "luxury" - that is a joke. They have the cheapest of the cheap appliances (the refrigerators are particularly small and annoying), the drawers and cabinets are severely under-sized, and seem like they are literally constructed out of garbage. We have had to have maintenance come and re-build drawers that fell apart three times. * Access has been an endless saga of failure. On our move-in day, we were unable to get into our unit, because the call-box is flakey, and can not consistently dial the numbers it has programmed. Meaning we were unable to buzz anybody in. This was never resolved. * The system was "upgraded" to an app-based one, but there have been endless issues with this as well: lack of documentation, failed reader hardware, inability to generate guest codes, etc. etc. I spent a month texting back and forth myself with the contractor who installed it, trying to get the initial issues resolved, because building management did not seem interested in fixing it. * The building is just not secure. The first and only time I went down to the tenant storage room (when I was getting a tour), we discovered there had been a break-in the night before. Additionally, packages are routinely stolen. And at the same time, delivery people are routinely unable to get into the building. * Although actual maintenance issues are resolved very quickly (again, due to the excellence of the on-site maintenance staff), management is unable to address basic issues around access and security. In general, they seem missing in action - which of course they are, since they do not keep anybody working at the front desk. To add insult to injury, they just gave us a 6.66% rent increase - far above what the data shows for average rent increases in the area.

Over the years we've lived here, Travis has helped us through multiple maintenance issues, including when our air conditioner unexpectedly froze in a heat wave and more recently when our bathroom sink developed a leak. What has always stood out is not just how quickly he responds, but how genuinely dedicated he is to taking care of the residents. When our sink started leaking, Travis was actually injured, but he still made the time to come by, turn off the water to prevent further damage, and make sure another maintenance technician was scheduled to assist him to complete the faucet repair just a day or two later. That level of commitment and follow-through is something you don't see every day. Every time Travis comes by, he's incredibly kind, respectful, and professional. He always takes the time to explain what he's doing and why, which we really appreciate. He's knowledgeable, personable, and even brings a great sense of humor, making what could be a stressful situation feel easy and reassuring. It's clear that Travis genuinely cares about both the apartments and the people who live here. He consistently goes above and beyond to make sure we feel taken care of, and we're very grateful for everything he does. Thank you, Travis, for making Park Lake Apartments feel even more like home!

She was hands-down one of the best property managers we've interacted with! She's incredibly professional, easy to talk to, and absolutely on top of things. She took the time to explain the vibe of the community, gave layout recommendations, and even shared application tips to make the process smoother. She was open and honest, even discussing other apartments with us in a genuine and friendly way. The level of care and attention Priscilla gives makes it clear she really looks out for her tenants. We would've loved to live here, but we found a different place with a bit more space (and a higher price tag). That said, we did love the extremely convenient location in Walnut Creek. It included parking and a fantastic, huge balcony. I highly recommend checking out Newell Vista if it fits your needs, you're single, and you need a convenient, relatively affordable spot in downtown Walnut Creek. They took into account many aspects we hadn't considered and helped us resolve issues. Misty personally called the management team of the apartment my daughter was renting in Berkeley to help us maximize our rights when she vacated the apartment. Alyssa always provided excellent service, and whenever we reached out to her, she promptly resolved any issues. Daniel quickly responded to a blocked sewer pipe and performed the necessary repairs, saving us from a major problem. Victor stepped in when Daniel was on medical leave to help us complete the pre-inspection at an opportune time. Thank you, Lyric Apartment management team, you are the best! Apartment selection: When choosing an apartment, we also looked at many options in the surrounding area. Ultimately, we chose Lyric because it had an exceptionally large island counter, the 1B1B layout offered the largest space, and the interior amenities were relatively modern. Particularly, the resident club was fantastic; my daughter and I enjoyed studying there. The environment was excellent, and the view from the windows was beautiful. My daughter loved it. The WC downtown area is very safe, with numerous restaurants, making it a great place for a stroll after dinner every day. After all that's been said, suffice it to say that we are grateful to the Lyric Apartment management team. It was thanks to you that we had a wonderful 10-month stay. If we ever have the chance to return to the Bay Area, Lyric Apartment will undoubtedly be our only choice!

Safety hasn't been an issue at all for our family, which was a major priority for us when moving in. Downtown WC simply doesn't endure the typical Bay Area plaques like mentally unstable homeless or constant car break-ins. It's jarring how normal it is. The Lyric team (Misty + Alyssa + Daniel), has done an excellent job keeping residents in the loop with clear and timely community-wide announcements. They're thorough, responsive (and if not, I don't hesitate to simply bump up the email threads etc), and genuinely care about maintaining a well-run property. As I mentioned in a previous review, our unit's windows weren't clean upon move-in due to a heavy calcium buildup that was especially noticeable in direct sunlight. While resolving this took longer than expected, the team at Lyric was *extremely* transparent and communicative throughout the process. In the end, they pushed for a fair solution, and we felt heard and respected. That level of integrity goes a long way when it's time to consider if one should renew their lease. We also appreciate the variety of discounts and partnerships Lyric has with the retail businesses on the ground floor--it's a nice touch that adds value to being a resident here. [!] One thing to watch out for: we noticed a recurring $16 monthly charge from a service called RentPlus, which reports your on-time rent payments to the credit bureaus. While that might sound useful, it feels like a bit of a money grab--especially since anyone approved for a Lyric lease likely already has solid credit. We were able to opt out and request a refund, but if we hadn't caught it, we would've ended up paying over $200 over a year for a service we didn't need. That said, we're still happy to give Lyric 5 stars. The management is responsive, the building is secure, and the overall experience continues to meet our expectations.

The road noise, sirens, and construction on the affordable housing unit can have you pulling out your hair. We are all expected to abide by new ' rules' and unwritten policies that show up in emails and are only enforced for some. It's silly. There is a laundry list. Let me say that less than a year ago we were new to WC. If the property manager had been transparent about the construction we would never have chosen to be next door to construction zone. Air horns, pounding, drilling, men's voices are all day and on occasion over night. It's a shame that we can't enjoy the apartment that we thought that we rented. The positives: The amenities are well-maintained (despite broken pool sticks and shuffle board table) the gym is always clean, the pool is rarely crowded, and the front desk staff are consistently friendly, professional, and helpful. They always greet me kindly and even print things for residents upon request, which I really appreciate. The concerns: There's a constant issue with the smell of dog urine in the hallways, likely from residents letting their dogs relieve themselves inside. More concerning are the security and privacy issues I've personally experienced. In April, while I was out of state, the building manager allowed someone to enter my apartment without my permission. I'm a woman in my 20s and a single mom. I chose this complex because I thought it was a safe place for my child and me. After that experience, there have been not one but TWO separate incidents where workers UNLOCKED my apartment door and opened it while I was lounging inside my apartment wearing just a bra. Both of these experiences were extremely uncomfortable and left me feeling anxious and unsafe in my own space. I truly wish I could recommend this place because the staff are kind and the amenities are nice, but the repeated lack of respect for resident privacy and consent is crazy. Safety and communication need to be taken far more seriously here.

It turned out to become a horrendous situation for many reasons - water leaked under the patio door when it rained, which led to an invasion of large bugs (I can't recall what the name of those are) that climbed up onto our kitchen counter and living room walls. We also had a parade of ANTS that was discovered coming through the back hallway closet. We had to try everything we could to stop all of that, and management did bare minimum with slow response time before things became uninhabitable. On top of all of that, we then had MOLD found behind the living room wall, so they had to pull it apart to remediate it, then put a huge, loud fan to dry it for a few days...yet they said it was okay to be home. That was laughable, because we couldn't be there for about a week, so we went to a hotel. We eventually were offered to move up to the top floor to ride out our lease for the last 2-3 months...so we accepted - however, after a week of moving our stuff up there, on the morning of moving into that unit, we walked in and literally saw a huge water leak on the bedroom ceiling! So they acted like they didn't notice it before, and told us that they had to remediate immediately...so we moved to a hotel while we waited to move elsewhere. We also happened to see a previous office staffer when we toured another place later on, and they admitted to us that NOMA wasn't built right. (No kidding!). We also by the way, heard multiple screaming people in the hallways and even through their closed doors, sometimes late at night. One guy was arrested down our hallway, so that was interesting. I am serious. There seemed to be a lot of young adults who were acting crazy and even smoked pot sitting around the hot tub, while a young kid was with them. Also, they closed the original dog station, which used to be on the way to the pool...which we were happy about, since we don't have a dog. The sky lounge smelled like dog pee when I almost sat on the sofa once. People with dogs broke the rules about not bringing them into the pool area too. I saw a couple by the grill area while they let their small dog run around the pool alone. Yes, really. The staff when we were there, did make some effort at least, to be helpful, but the hell we experienced there was not worth it just to live across from Target! If you still choose to move to NOMA, please don't take a pool facing unit around the deck there on floor 3. I would go to the highest floor if I were you, but just look elsewhere and save your sanity.
