I was looking for someone to paint the exterior of our home two stories in the front and one story on the back since we live against a mountain. I got all kind of calls, some painters were to busy to call back some seemed to price the jobs so high that they really didn't want the job. Some were so low that I wonder if they would really do a good job I decided to use CertaPro painters, they were about middle of the road on price, they provided a written quote with a guarantee, promised to clean up every day and day's end. We painted the same colors and them spend special time on certain areas. The pressure cleaned, scraped, putty and patched 3 days, full days before they even started painting. They used spray in conjunction with rolling the paint. 2 days painting and done. My neighbors were surprised that the house was done so quickly. I am happy with the job, I managed the job along with other projects with concrete work and electrical. The painting was almost done too soon. I'm not going to complain. Have known Karl for a number of years and when it came time to needing our condo apartment painted I definitely wanted to show support for his business. He was timely in meeting with me to discuss services and getting a quote and patient as we had to hold off a month. His crew were punctual and cleaned up after themselves. I noticed a few areas that needed touching up and I contacted Karl regarding those issues. He said they would take care of it and arranged to have someone come out and address my areas of concern. I only deducted a star because I did feel they could have used more painters tape when doing edges and could have draped certain areas better. They did keep the floors covered. All I can say is...wow! Our house had not been painted since 1985 and, while the stucco held up over time, the wooden trim and garage door sustained substantial termite and weathering damage over the years. It needed a makeover. We obtained 3 quotes, and CertaPro (whom we found via Home Advisor) came through with the lowest quote. Tony, their sales rep, brought out a color palate (Sherwin Williams) for us to review. They also agreed to repair our wrought iron rail as well as the cracks within our perimeter wall prior to painting those. While the other companies dared not to even touch the garage door, Phil and Co. repaired much of the damage on the garage door prior to painting it. They did the same for the wooden trim around the house. Phil's team finished the project in about a 1 1/2 weeks and we were very impressed! In fact, it feels as if we have a new house! Just as importantly, their team started each day on time, took good care of our property (i.e. they cleaned up after themselves), and were both courteous and efficient when they communicated with us. I would like to start by saying Tony was amazing, professional and attentive. Unfortunately, all of that professionalism ends there. Tony came to my home, listened and took notes. When I was ready, I called the office and they walked me through the next steps after securing the date. I was told the Project Manager would do another walk-thru the week prior to pick out color, note where all the colors would go and answer questions. Two weeks prior, I called the office to remind them no one had called for this appointment. I was told a message would be sent to the PM. The week prior, I called again. I was told I received the wrong information and the PM would speak to me the morning of. The morning of was a mess. Three men walked in my home, asked if they were painting the ceiling (it was noted on the invoice) and said they didn't have the right equipment for it. They also asked where my paint was??? We did a fast walk-thru, they threw out a few insults about Tony and his quote, I tried to note areas of concern and then I was asked if I was staying or going. We left. This job was quoted for 6 business days. They asked for an additional day. They don't work the weekends so our family had to pay to stay somewhere over the weekend. My home was recently remodeled. Everything but the walls were new. When we arrived home, there was paint on my new kitchen cabinets, on the new quartz countertops, on every appliance, toilet lid and tank, on my new vinyl and carpet flooring, my new baseboards were ruined because the gray wall paint dripped down to the baseboards, the blinds in my master bedroom were broken and laying on the floor, there was paint on my living room blinds and kitchen curtain. There was not one place in my home that you could sit without seeing the gray wall color on the white ceiling or the white ceiling color on the gray walls. There were also areas that I specifically asked them not to paint but they painted it. I sent this company 100 pictures and a detailed spread sheet (room by room) of all the issues. The owner came to look at my home. He didn't look at the details just the "big" stuff he said. He then asked if he could send a team of people for another 2 maybe 3 days to address the list. He sent 1 man and we were displaced again for 2 days. He address some issues, made worse others and didn't do a lot of the important things promised by the boss that would get done. I did receive a discount on the balance due. Unfortunately, that doesn't undo all the work that's left for me to fix. There is definitely a disconnect within that company after Tony does a walk-thru. What's important to you is not important to them. I can not recommend this company. read more

The kind of service you hope for but never really expect to get! We needed to have the exterior of our house painted. I went through Home Advisor and was called immediately by Justin. He came over the next day and gave us a professional, thorough and detailed estimate, printed, within 20 minutes after our walk and talk around the house. He had made detailed notes on the estimate about our concerns. The job was scheduled right away and on the appointed day Phil and Kevin arrived. They were thorough, detailed, courteous, friendly and professional every minute of every day of the job. They kept the work area neat and tidy and cleaned up every day before they left. When the job was done, Phil asked us to do a walk with him around the house to see if anything was missed. We all found a few spots that Phil and Kevin took care of before packing up and leaving. Later that day my husband noticed an area of trim way up on the second story. I called Ellen to let her know and she called back in about 5 minutes to let me know Phil would come over the next day at my convenience. He came this morning and took care of the matter. What struck me about this job is that from Justin to Phil and Kevin to Ellen the office manager, everyone's main concern seemed to be whether or not my husband and I were happy. Company is top notch and we engaged them to paint our Kailua condo. They responded quickly to an on site estimate, emailed quote, and scheduled job very quickly. There was initially a delay due to weather but got rescheduled to an even earlier time than expected so they are really on top managing schedules. Tarren was our main guy and spent 3 days with us. He was professional, careful, and detailed and really took a great deal of care to ensure if work was acceptable when going through our condo. He even went above and beyond by coming back after the project was finished to touch up some drywall repair work done by the second helper. After reviewing Yelp and other sites to try and find painting professionals to do exterior residential painting and some external repair work prior to painting, I contacted this company since it seemed to have a majority of good reviews. After initiating contact, I received an email to confirm appointment time and date. I inadvertently thought that the meet up time was 2 hours later than scheduled. Tony called me by phone that he was almost to my location. When I realized my appointment time error, I apologized and Tony was gracious enough to wait 10-15 minutes for me to get back home by going to Starbucks down the street. We finally went through the job site and Tony took some notes and left. Days go by, then weeks, until finally after a month later, I sent an email to inquire about my estimate. No reply. A few days later, I called and left a message. No reply. What is it with businesses these days that a simple message of "Sorry, but we can't do it or "Due to our current workload, your job will have to wait for awhile" instead of just letting a potential customer just hang like we have nothing better to do than watch paint dry. if you value your customers that much, I would not want to see what kind of job you would do. I originally wasn't considering this company but when my wife handed me our old house painter contract and looked up the number, I found out that they were the local CertPro Painters who previously painted my house over 7 years ago. I contacted them and they informed me of the name change but they were the same company. Their estimator came and inspected the house, listened to my concerns and requirements on the job. I received the statement of work and given that I upgraded the quality of the paint, had repair work included and had a mildew additive to the paint, their estimate was still the lowest of my estimates of the companies considered. I was lucky, no paint color changed, so no added paperwork for HOA approval or costs and they had a open schedule that I slide in. Josh and his crew came in early the first day, with his coworkers reviewing the work to be done, double checking my paint choices and pressure washed the home. Their carpenter came, looked at the areas to repair for measurements. By the second day, they quickly went to work, with the paint tackling the job. The Sherwin Williams higher quality paint with additive to prevent mildew was thick. The carpenter had pointed out some additional damage on the first day, when he assessed the work. I was asked about the replacement material on the trim, which I was glad to be offered a choice of real wood versus composite for the trim. He did the repair work superbly and painted the replacement on the last day. It was an excellent job by Josh, his crew, and the carpenter. This newer brand of Sherwin Williams paint lasts a couple of years longer, so I don't have to paint it in seven but at least ten years, so I'm highly satisfied. I CAN speak to the fact that they are totally respectful of the property and the residents. For part of the project, they had to move through my backyard for about a week; I hardly knew they were there. Plus, they were friendly to my dog, Rudy. We recently had our house painted by Certa Pro Painters. They are an excellent company to work with. We got a great, affordable price. It was well below all other bids received for the job. The employees were very friendly, professional and thorough. They helped us pick our paint and trim colors and painted sample swatches in different areas of the house so we could get a good idea of what it would look like when finished. They did an excellent job prepping, from power washing the house to removing old nails to putting up rust block. The painting was done very nicely and they hand painted the edges so they look crisp and clean. Overall they did an excellent job at a reasonable price. read more

EDIT 6/30/16: Within a few hours of downgrading my review of CertaPro to one star, I received not one, but TWO calls from them. I was quickly scheduled for the touch-up work and everything was done to my satisfaction. The work took about an hour. I understand that warranty work is a nuisance and can take some time to schedule. I fully expected this and was prepared to be patient. What I didn't expect was the complete lack of response to my repeated attempts to contact them. A professional company would have responded with a quick email or phone call to let me know that they will work on scheduling me in. That said, I'll upgrade my review to 3 stars since the original paint job was satisfactory. ==================== EDIT 4/24/16: I finally reached someone from CertaPro in early April. Tasha said she'd schedule someone to come out last week to do the touch-up but never called again with a date. I called the office and left a message and didn't hear back from her. When I decided to paint the exterior of the house, I obtained estimates from 3 companies. Karl, owner of Certapro, came out and gave me a written estimate on the spot, whereas the others took days or weeks and I didn't get anything in writing. Karl was extremely knowledgeable, stressed the importance of a good prep job and basically said everything a homeowner wants to hear. I ended up paying a bit more for Certapro but I feel that it was worth it. The crew that came out was supervised by C.J. He and his assistant spent several days doing prep which consisted of power washing, scraping and filling. The actual painting turned out to be challenging due to two weeks of rainy, wet weather and I think that affected the quality of the work. The constant starting and stopping made it difficult to paint the house in a methodical way. However, when I pointed out spots that were missed, CJ always had a good attitude about fixing it. He even fixed a few things that apparently had been there all along. Karl showed up periodically to check on our progress. At the end, we had a final walk through with Karl. I thought I had been pretty meticulous about checking their work so I was grateful when he pointed out some spots that needed more paint or filler. Those were added to a punch list. He was very focused on making sure the house was well-protected from the elements and warned me that in a 2-3 years, the areas by the carport and mauka side may peel due to intense sun and rain exposure and that we should not hesitate to call him to come touch up those areas. Certapro (corporate) offers a standard 2 year warranty but Karl (as the franchisee) extends the warranty to 5 years. I love it! Lesson Learned: Try to walk around every day or two to catch mistakes early. I waited until close to the end because I thought CJ would catch things on his own. In the end, it was more work for both of us. Summary: We had small issues during this job but nothing that I wouldn't expect from any company. The important thing is how the company reacts to those problems and how well they stand behind their work. Karl and Certapro are #1 in my book. I'll try to remember to post an update in a few years after I've seen how well the paint wears. read more

I appreciated the quick response from the company--The day I met the sales rep, he set up an appointment to look at my job so he could give me an estimate. When I questioned whether the company would be able to match their Sherwyn Williams paint with the Benjamin Moore paint color my homeowner's association had approved for my house, he made a special trip to get Sherwyn Williams paint matched to the Benjamin Moore paint color and gave me the 2 quarts of matching paint. (I couldn't tell the difference between their brand of paint and the Benjamin Moore paint.) Then he gave me an appointment for the painting job to commence the very next week. The company promptly provided a reasonable quote for the job. The painters arrived on time (actually, a little earlier each day to set up) and worked quietly and conscientiously. Ray, the leader, consulted with me regularly to clarify requirements and to make sure everything would be done to my satisfaction. They cleaned up after themselves each day and worked hard all the time. Both Ray and his assistant were very polite and did a great job. The carpenter who replaced some stair treads was also very good in recommending additional treads for replacement and in getting the job done very quickly. Aloha, I had a very small job, painting a few walls in my apartment. Email doesn't seem the ideal way to get messages to CPro, but there were no delays when I made phone calls to Tasha or Mr.Karl. Compared to every painter I called in the yellow pages, they were professional, and responsive within reason, for what may be a smaller outfit. I guess these days, everyone is a critic, and expects email to be the end all in communication, as everyone is busy, just do it the old fashioned way, and make a phone call. And the service was normal or better for myself., As of May, 2016. The paint looks good, too, and per Karl, they offer to come back and fix things later, if needed, seems good to me. CertaPro was the best price so we went with them and are very glad we did. Curtis was the supervisor with help from Reid. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was that when Curtis came the first day he didn't have a ladder that was tall enough to do the job, even though Tony had taken several pictures showing our high foyer and cathedral ceilings. I don't like writing negative reviews, but this company was previously CertaPro Painting and I recently had them paint my house. Biggest mistake I ever made. The paint on the house was ok, it was the fact I have overspray on my glass table, my vinyl fence, my year old black tiles on my deck, my neighbors car, my puakenikeni tree, my speakers (I had removed for them to paint), paint drops on my roof and the list goes on, and not once did the project manager or supervisor come to my house to see me and address my concerns.The only time I saw him was to pick up the deposit. If they still have the same staff, beware. I am a contractor and work in the customer service department, and that's not how we roll. I chose this contractor because the offered a 5 year warranty and a fair price, not the cheapest, through Home Advisor. I hired CertaPro to paint the interior of my townhouse in Waikele. Not only was the estimate one of the lowest, it was a thorough, written estimate (including photos of some particular areas) provided on-the-spot (no waiting a day or two), with some optional line-items for things I wasn't sure I wanted or not (e.g., a door repair). CertaPro arrived on time, did great prep work, worked diligently and completed on time (earlier than promised, in fact). The work was terrific. The painters were courteous, efficient and friendly. I will definitely call CertaPro next time I need any painting done, and would recommend them 100%! read more

Although we did not use this company to paint our house, they were so excellent in their interaction with us that I felt that I had to share their top quality customer service. We met Tony at the BIA and made an appointment. We have not painted our house and were anxious about what to do, how to do it, cost, etc. Tony did everything right - he made the appointment, showed up punctually, was efficient in his estimate, sent us the estimate quickly, answered our multiple questions and stayed in touch. In fact he was so good that my husband said it made it hard NOT to hire him. Cert-Pro was also the lowest bid. The reason we went with another company was they guaranteed their work for 5 years (only company to do so) and will prime the whole house before painting (for only slightly more $s). They came two weeks later and started to power wash the exterior of the houses.I was lucky as Roy and his son Roman were the painters. They did an excellent job. They did the prep work, fixed the worn wood and did the painting job. They even climbed on the roof to paint the very top of the roof. I was painting my modest home in Kaneohe and searched all over to find a great painting company. I discovered Karl and Certified Pro Painters. We all know painting your house is not a cheap thing, but Karl's quote was by far the least expensive. He was able to start sooner than other companies and able to complete the job in less days. I know your saying, that the cheapest quote might not be such a great thing. Usually you would be right, but in my case, Karl got my house painted even before others returned my call!
