Unsure of where to start with this experience. Scuba diving of course is a beautiful, new world. But what really made this such a great time for me was the crew and their professionalism. From the start, we met Erik. He told us every intricate detail of what was coming and how to have a handle on ourselves in the first 15 minutes, which are the toughest. He told us what to expect and again, how to handle that. Example, our regulator falling out or water in our masks. Then we got on the boat and met Jay & Dan. Both dive instructors and Also extremely sweet & knowledgable. Jay accompanied us and Dan drove the boat. Now for scuba itself, I got a little nervous in those first 15 minutes of getting accustomed to the weight of my gear and the water. It's like I completely forgot how to breath but with the help of Dan's "relax" hand signals, I was able to calm myself and make my way down. & boy am I so happy I did!! We saw sharks, turtles, eels, reef fish and a bunch of sea urchins (careful they're pointy!) it truly was a beautiful, life changing experience :) PLUS Erik takes pictures of everyone in groups and individually for FREE in the price! & sent them to us that very day. It might seem like the most terrifying thing,being 40 feet down in the ocean, but that feeling goes away very quickly! Erik is seriously amazing. He is so friendly, helpful and patient. My husband and I were on our honeymoon in Honolulu, and it was definitely worth renting a car to make the short drive to the launch site. It was both of our first times diving, but Erik made sure to explain everything to us and feel comfortable. The breathing freaked us out the most, but after trying it a few times your body adapts easily. Once you get down there, you feel so free! The fact that Erik takes and sends pictures to you on the same day is unheard of! I really loved that he did this. It is so amazing to look back on the adventure! read more

5 years ago I certified in the cold waters of Monterey, with a dream of one day diving the warm water s of Hawaii. Not realizing how a 5 year gap would make me react, I freaked out as soon as I jumped in the water and Erik and team could totally see it. This is where experienced dive operators matters! It was more mental than physical, they kept coaching me to commit to the descent and let the waters calm me. After very slowly inching down the rope to the bottom, voila! I joined the rest of the group to have two sea turtles appear right in front of me!!!! Erik was constantly checking in with me, noticing I was struggling under water in controlling my buoyancy, showed me tricks I had forgotten like I had more than one valve to clear out air in my BCD and making sure I shifted. On the second dive, the memory of the panic attack and the waves started my anxiety up again. Erik and team to the rescue convincing I should at least try . Down I went, and it was much easier, the waves was making me sick and their theory that I would feel better once I was under water proven true. Saw eels!! Which made me squeal, rays and sharks. When we came up , I didn't have the energy to swim back to the boat. They SOS towed me back :) pulled off my BCD and back on the boat I went, safe and sound. Best experienced ever. Kudos to Oahu diving for recognizing that some divers just need a little encouraging push to fight through mental barriers. Go diving with them, they'll take care of you. read more

My friends and I are first time divers and we are so glad we chose Oahu Diving! Erik is super nice and will walk you through everything you need to know. I had a little trouble with breathing through my nose and he was so patient with me. He practiced with me until I got it right and felt confident that I would be able to do it underwater. Once I was in, it was so much fun, I just forgot all the fears I had before going. Erik is very knowledgeable underseas and pointed out schools of fish, giant sea turtles, and even a couple sharks! Erik is friendly and professional - he emailed us our pictures that same night! All in all it was an enjoyable experience and I would definitely recommend Oahu Diving to everyone! My first time diving and it couldn't have been a better experience, partner to dive with. We booked last minute - my boyfriend was in town for business working and we weren't sure what day we were free to dive until 2 days before. Erik was wonderful - he answered all my questions before on the phone and gave us clear instructions. Pricing was fair - we got 2 dives at two different depths in one outing! We met at the big dock restaurant, which is easier than trying to find their boat admist a ton of other boats, and then we followed him in our car over to where there was free parking, restrooms to get squared away. Triple checked all of our suit/fins to make sure we were comfy, fit right. Then, went into a laid-back but detailed and helpful overview of our equipment and then had us practice. I had a hard time with the blow-draining of the face mask filled with water, but he wouldn't let up on me until I had it so that I wouldn't have trouble under water. We managed to catch a whole fleet of turtles and got super close to them, while Erik also found a beautiful large spotted corie shell with a crustacean in it and had us pick up some cool starfish. Not that they can guarantee that any of those things will be found, but it was still would have been a great trip even without all that stuff. Erik then sent us photos for free and followed up on our tour experience. Yes, the boat is super smelly from the diesel. Yes, your ears will pop so badly it hurts. You will likely get sick (we didn't but his co-worked did) and get a huge headache. The equip can get smelly and the wetsuit isn't in amazing condition (but it's the least important part when you first time dive to under a hundred feet and you're in warm waters. And Erik and his wife and the boat driver all make it feel relaxed and safe. read more

My brother and I went scuba diving for the first time last week with Erik and Chris. First off, they are amazing!!! Erik was a wonderful instructor and just an amazing person. Chris was constantly checking in with me to make sure I was ok (as I was having slight difficulties with buoyancy in the beginning). They are the dynamic duo. I think on any day, Erik may be with a different instructor, but the fact that you'll always get Erik no matter what, is probably the best thing that could ever happen to you. Our Group: We had a small group of 6 people. My brother and I (both in our early to mid 20's), and a family (two teenage sons and their parents. The parents had been diving before - rest of us were newbies). First Dive: This one was about 45 mins. Erik and Chris took us down to get acquainted with our apparatus (after thorough instruction and guide while on the boat). We saw sea turtles and amazing fishes and coral. Erik managed to make magic happen (just good timing) and we were able to see 3 or 4 sea turtles on our dive! Many close encounters which produced great pictures! Second Dive: This one was also around 40 mins. We tried to find some sharks, but to no avail. That did not put a damper in my mood. Just being able to see all the ocean life and sea creatures was spectacular. Erik let us put popcorn in our vests so we could entice the wild life. Boy, did it work. Up close and personal with so many fishes! For $115 a person (which I thought was expensive at first), this is a great deal! Not only were we out on the water for a total of almost 4 hours, Erik took pictures for us while on both of our dives and sent them to us, for free!!! We had sooo many great pictures, it is definitely something that I'll do again if I ever go back. And I'll definitely do it with Erik. They were very communicative and responsive when I made the reservation and provided very detailed emails (remember to read the confirmation email with all instructions). Even though I booked months in advance, I still received a call the day before confirming our reservation. I was going to call because I thought they might've forgotten about us. All in all, loved it, loved Erik, loved the experience. I highly recommend it!! read more

Highly recommend this dive company - you get to see some amazing sites and see lots of marine life. We saw eels, lots of turtles, and small sharks. I can't comment on the scuba diving experience since I was not able to partake - I'm writing about the reservation process. I tried to make a reservation via e-mail and contacted the e-mail address on the website. I was greeted by Jeff, Erik's partner, and he told me to fill out the reservation form online to get the ball rolling. So far nothing wrong. The form asks for my days of availability and I specify it. Jeff e-mails me back asking for other dates of availability and I tell him. He doesn't let me know whether or not they can accommodate me on those dates so I ask him about whether there were availabilities on the dates I was available. He tells me that one of the dates work. Fast-forward to the date that he said works. I find out that I do not actually have a reservation even though I filled out a reservation form and was told there was an availability on the date. My girlfriend and I set aside an afternoon in our vacation for this so we were pretty bummed out. I called the company and I spoke with Erik. Up to this point, all of my communication with the company was via e-mail and with Jeff. Erik apologizes profusely for the miscommunication and he tries to figure out something that could work for me. Unfortunately, we couldn't get something to work so he referred us to another diving company. Basically, there was no e-mail confirmation so there was no reservation made. Overall, I would say do not try to reserve via e-mail or if you do try, make sure to get the confirmation e-mail. You might need to be the one that does most of the work in trying to get everything set up if you do. If you read a lot of the comments here, they refer to Erik. I believe he does a good job based off my conversations with him. However, I cannot say the same about his partner Jeff. Jeff might be a good diver (I wouldn't know) but not the best business man. If it weren't for Erik following up with me, I would give my experience only 1 star. read more

This was my first time scuba diving and by far the best experience of the trip! Going into it I had a fear of drowning and being underwater for a long time but Erik was awesome about explaining everything and making you feel comfortable. He encouraged us to give 100% which is true. You really need to relax, give it your best shot, and have fun. It's such an amazing feeling to hang out with life underwater! :) Among the many beautiful fish we saw sea turtles, reef sharks and eels. (Erik took great shots of it too!!) Tips- If you plan on snorkeling, definitely do it before as it makes it easier to adjust to the scuba equipment. Ask Erik what the best day to go out would be. He suggested a beautiful day that we would have otherwise overlooked. We were able to adjust other activities around and dodged the rain! read more

Update: I know how to use a BCD and it did def not work all the time and instead of blaming me not using it correctly in a very rude and mean way it would have been more helpful to actually check it out! We went on another dive with another dive company where the BCD worked with no problem and we went to same spot but actually did a tour! We saw so much more more of that area and it is actually quite nice! The whole experience with the other company was nicer and felt a lot safer and they were a lot cheaper as well!! I was very disappointed by that dive and now I'm even more disappointed.... Out of all my dives ( and FYI a lot more than just 10) that was the worst one - gear wise safety wise ( for example no alternate air source) and tour wise! read more

I had a great time! It was just my friend and I(we were joined by five others), and we were absolute beginners, so we were quite anxious. My friend did excellent! I, well, more on that in a second. So we met up and Fishermans Wharf restaurant, suited up, and sat in the boat while Erik gave us thorough instructions and helpful tips. Then came time to go in the water! This is where I freaked. I panicked. BUT! Erik calmed me down enough to get me underwater, and once I was, it was incredible! There were two HUGE turtles, a bunch of beautiful fish, and a LOT of things to look at. It was truly amazing. Unfortunately, I started feeling a bit nauseous, so I didn't participate in the second dive. My friend, however, and she enjoyed it a lot. Kim and Erik made it a very fun, comfortable, and beautiful experience. I highly recommend them! read more

First time scuba diving!! My friends and I did the beginner dive and I had an awesome experience. Erik was super nice and definitely made sure we were ready before jumping in. It was cool because we kept a small group so it was basically just my friends and I. We were able to do two dives. He let us do an easier one to get used to it. Then they took us further out to do a deeper dive. Was awesome!! Going down was crazy but they made sure we were okay. Erik took us around and we were able to see a shark, turtle, eels, and tons of fishes! I loved the turtle! It swam close up to us and we were able to swim with it for awhile. They also take hella pictures and sent them to us right away. The pictures were all included with the package so that was a big plus. Definitely enjoyed the experience. I was really nervous at first but now I love it and would go scuba diving again! Thanks Erik! read more

During our stay we decided to make sure Scuba Diving was on our list of activities. We did our research and decided to go with Oahu Diving based on the reviews Erik received. We called to schedule a session when we first got to the island and wanted to go on a Tuesday, but Erik said it would be tough since he likes to keep the groups small, but it would be better to go on Thursday. I definitely like the fact that he does keep the groups small because you can get more attention for a new diver and not feel neglected. Now on to the diving, Erik is a great teacher and really gives it to you straight forward. This was my first time and typically I'm not the type to be afraid to try anything, but something about being in the water and possible losing breath does scare me a bit. I was the first to go in and man the nerves did kick up, but like Erik said usually that's when the nerves are at the highest and when you can get over that you're golden. Being first in Erik just said to go for it down the rope and after realizing I could breathe fine I really had no worries. It was an awesome trip and we got to see huge sea turtles, sea eels, sea urchins everywhere, and of course various fish. Since this was my first time I thought it was great that there were 2 dives, since the second dive I felt so much more comfortable. Only problem was my goggles weren't securely fastened so I wasted a lot of oxygen trying to get the water out. If I had only known my goggles weren't over my head correctly that would've solved the problem early on. That being said my second dive was cut short, due to lack of oxygen. Lastly, if you've done a dive before like my girlfriend has, you might want to ask Erik to go in an area where you can roam more freely. I feel you got more enjoyment of swimming through the ocean, but with a beginner bunch you have to do a lot of waiting for others. Next time I return I'll be sure to mention that we'd like to dive with more freedom to roam. It was a great experience with Erik and now being introduced to the scuba diving world I'll definitely be looking for other opportunities elsewhere. read more

We had a blast with Erik this past Thursday on our first-ever scuba dive! Erik was totally calm, relaxed and fun on our trip. He went over how to use all of the equipment and what to expect in the water. Not going to lie, I kind of freaked out a little bit when I first got into the water, but he quickly put me at ease and I'm so glad that I went down!! We had 2 amazing dives. Saw some turtles, eel, and some sharks!! The one thing I will say is to make sure that you go over the equalizing information thoroughly before your first dive! My dad is a scuba diver, so he made sure that I was very informed in this...but if you're not aware of what you're doing, you can do some serious damage to your ears by not equalizing properly!! I was having some trouble equalizing one of my ears on the second dive and I could tell my boyfriend was as well. We hung out on the line for an extended period of time at the beginning of our decent. Erik was very patient and waited for us, not rushing us at all which was fantastic. All in all, I would 100% recommend diving with Oahu diving and would do it again if we came back to the island. Thank you, Erik for an amazing dive and starting what I'm sure will become a lifelong hobby/obsession. He also took some pretty rad photos, not only in the clarity but also in the framing. I'm currently on a "30 before 30" kick with the bf - 30 things to do before we turn 30. Seeing as we're not getting any younger, we decided to theme our Hawaii vacation with lazy-macaroni-malasada-gorging and extreme sports. Go big or go home, right? We started with scuba diving. We found Oahu Diving here on Yelp, and it definitely had the most appealing package compared to the other diving companies out there. About $100 for two 40 minute dives + training and pictures! Awesome. The staff is amazing and immediately put my fears to ease. It's obvious that they truly love the ocean and that they're extremely passionate about diving - it really comes out in their teaching style. Erik, Ana, and Joe were a ton of fun. They took underwater pictures of us all throughout both of our dives. Plus...we saw giant turtles! And eels! and crazy fish! And sea urchins! Also, mad props to Erik for saving me from getting stabbed by sea urchins 3 times. If you want an adventure, call these guys. read more

If you want to see what the company is like before you dive, do what I did, search "Oahu Diving" on YouTube. When I saw the videos I was immediately hooked. Erik, Jeff, Ana and Joe were all nice and I couldn't possibly imagine a better dive. Our group consisted friends and family all visiting Hawaii for a wedding. We had people fly in from Japan and Shanghai and all parts of the US. We all had a great time and I learned Erik, the instructor, can speak Japanese pretty well. This was Oct 23, '09. The water was warm and the conditions were perfect for diving. This was certainly one of the highlights of our trip! oh if you want to get the most out of this dive and it's your first time, I suggest taking some motion sickness pills, even if you don't think you'll get sick, its better to be safe than feeding the fish with your lunch underwater! read more

Oahu Diving is one experience you do NOT want to miss when you're in Hawaii. Whether you're a seasoned diver or just wanting to do it for the first time, there is no better place! Erik (the instructor) is just one of those guys that make you feel comfortable and relaxed even though, I guarantee you, you will have some jitters if you're going for the first time. He gives you all the basics; how to breathe, what to do, how to communicate underwater; describes the equipment, why you need it - & then lets you get familiarized with it, etc. He describes the marine life, what you can touch and what can bite your fingers off; assures you that sharks are not going to harm you, and that you will see some very cool things! So you need to relax, breathe, and just enjoy it! After all the briefings, we start going and it takes about 10-15 minutes to get to the first location... (all along, you are surrounded by the beauty of Waikiki, its beachfront, as well as Diamond Head). We get all of our gear on, buckle up, and are ready for the first plunge! Believe me, the first few minutes will not be the most pleasant minutes of your life... breathing is definitely different, it will take a few minutes to adjust... you will float just a few feet underwater for 5-10 minutes to get the hang of it and get (more) comfortable. Once you're good there, you'll start using the line to descend; do it slowly, the pressure is more than I expected and your ears might be affected, but you can control that the same way you can control change in altitude on a plane. Once you're down... I promise you, you will be amazed! You can swim freely and take in all the incredible sea life. Most likely, you will see turtles, a shark or two, tons of colorful fish, sea urchins, maybe some rays or octopuses. It's nothing like you'd think it would be, it's a thousand times better! to have those animals swim right next to you, almost touching you :). Every so often, Erik will check up on you to make sure you have enough air left. And since it was just the five of us (including Erik), everyone got plenty of attention. We were under for maybe 25-30 minutes, and had a good supply of air left when we came up. We change our tanks, and head out to another location. Yes, two dives!!! In two different spots! Can it get any better than this? YES, it can! Erik takes pictures & video of the whole adventure! We get to the other location. All of us are a lot more comfortable and relaxed. The second dive is really about exploring and really enjoying all the surroundings, because by that time, you're more accustomed to breathing. After we're done with the second dive, we start heading back... & sharing all of our experiences. That same evening, we get to see our pictures! A few days later, we got the video! It is so amazing to be able to do such a thing... words can't explain how awesome the feeling of diving is! I am definitely getting certified now. :oD!! My friends and I took the introductory course. Of the 5 of us newbies, the 3 of us girls made it through the entire thing! I was so proud of us, it was amazing! I highly recommend this experience for people who doesn't suffer from asthma to try scuba diving at least once in their life. It is life changing! The day started with us getting picked up from our hotel and we were nervous about taking on this adventure because everyone thinks of the dangers in the ocean and everything that could possibly go wrong. Luckily, Erik was really easy going and helped us get over our fears so that we could realize that we were in very capable hands. Erik took his time to get us accustomed to breathing with a regulator even before we got into the water. He taught us how to get water out of our scuba masks, different signals, and the proper way to pop your ears under water, everything that would cover the basics. Several words of advice. Bring a towel and clothes to change into. Also, if you suffer from motion sickness bring motion sickness pills. The waves got really choppy and my friends started to feel extremely sick while we were getting to our first location. Unfortunately, our boat wouldn't start (the battery died) so we had to get "towed" back to the dock. Since we were stuck on the water for so long, we were able to watch the sunset. It was an AMAZING experience, so much that I eventually want to be certified. This adventure is one we will cherish for years and luckily Erik sent us photos of our excursion right away, so that we can savor those moments forever! :) read more

I was lucky enough to be able to complete my advanced PADI certification with Oahu Diving this last week. Have nothing but good things to say about these guys. -The Staff: Erik (instructor/owner of Oahu diving) called me up within hours of me sending them an email asking if I'd be able to get my advanced certification through Oahu Diving and setup a time that worked for me and ALSO offered to pick me up from the place I was staying to the dive boat's pier even though I was off of their usual waikiki pickup route! That alone was really nice of Erik and made my life a lot easier! When I finally got to meet Erik and Jeff (also an instructor for Oahu diving) I found them both to be really cool nice guys but at the same time professional. You don't want to go diving with someone who is so uptight that they make you feel uncomfortable nor do you want to go diving with someone that is so relaxed that you'd be worried if they'll take emergencies seriously. I found that the instructors at Oahu Diving have a good balance of both qualities (being cool and professional at the same time) so you'll find yourself both relaxed and secure. One of other divers in my group signed up his wife for the open water certification and he mentioned that during her first ocean dive she was extremely close to freaking out, but that Jeff's patience with her helped calm her down and got her through the dive. So if you're a first timer to diving and feel a bit nervous, take my word and sign up with these guys! -The dive boat: Was large enough to accommodate around 10 or more divers. Has restrooms and snacks are provided after dives. - The Equipment: All the needed equipment was included in the advanced certification fee and I believe is also included if you sign up for 2 tank dives. You can bring your own gear if you want, (Some of the divers in our group brought their mask and/or fins along.) but I used their equipment. Everything was in good condition - much better then some of the rental equipment I have used back in california! - The dives Did some dives down to shipwrecks (YO-257 and Seatiger wrecks) and some to a reef (horseshoe reef). All sites were spectacular! Jeff dove with us and before each dive he went over all the the different signs (OK, slow down etc etc) for all the people in the group who needed a quick refresh. Also went over the signs he used to call out different marine life with an emphasis on the dangerous ones like scorpion fish that we needed to be careful of. During the dive he pointed out turtles, rays, octopuses, hard to spot camouflaged fish etc etc and took some pictures of us with an underwater camera and Erik later emailed those pictures to us for free! - The advanced certification: Erik told me which chapters of the Advanced PADI manual I'd need to read and complete the quizzes on and on the day of the dives Jeff went over the important points of those chapters prior to the dives and also informed me of what I'd need to do in the water to accomplish the requirements of the advanced cert. Overall: Great friendly professional staff + good equipment = great diving! I highly recommend Oahu Diving and will definitely be diving with these guys on future visits to Oahu! read more

Me and the bf were peeing our pants on the long walk from keahole beach bus stop to the pier, but Erik was there to greet us with a reassuring smile about our first diving experience. Erik's diving 101 lesson is simple, easy and with some practice of the techniques a total confidence booster. We set out for 2 dives, the first few minutes in the water I panicked and felt like my goggles were coming off but Erik coached me to breathe deeply through the regulator and made me stay down for a bit to get over panic mode. Once that was over it was smooth sailing...er diving.. down to the bottom for some in yo face planet earth type stuff. Can't get more high def than that! I highly recommend something for seasickness as a few people on our trip did have to yakkety yak after the first dive. A few days later, Erik sends you some high res pics of your dives to get you hyped up for your next time! And trust me..there will be a next time. Thanks Erik, Ana and Joe! read more

GO DIVING w/ OAHU DIVING! The best money I spent on the island so far and I've been here for a month! I talked my cousin and a couple of friends to try diving for the first time and they LOVED it! Erik really is a GREAT underwater tour guide! I saw my first honu and found 2 more! So freaking cool! Erik was really easy going and gave the necessary safety talk w/out freaking my friends out! He found 2 octopus and held them out so we could get some amazing photos w/ it! Oh Oh and the porcupine fish topped the cake! What an experience! I'm a certified diver but have been totally rusty at diving. It had been almost 9 yrs since I dove and this trip brought back the diving spark! I can't wait to dive again, and if I go on this island, it will be with Oahu Diving! PS don't forget the anti seasick pills!!! It can be rough out there! But the video and pictures that come w/ the dive are TOTALLY worth it! read more

Ah Erik and Anna, it was fun while it lasted. I only saw a turtle and two baby sharks in the cave but it was enough. Just being deep under water was fun enough for me. And a workout. The price $109 includes tax, two dives, pictures, gears and quick instructions. I'm a first time diver but very adaptive so the 10 minute instructions were more than enough for me. I obviously don't care much about my safety, but don't worry Erik and Anna will. The weather wasn't that great so not a lot of sea creatures came out to play. The highlight of the dive was when a gigantic turtle swam by minding its business and when I went to greet it, it glared at me. GLARED. It was love at first sight. Oh and I almost drowned myself. I got down, wasn't used to breathing through my mouth and since the mouthpiece was quite uncomfortable (my mouth is not meant to stretch that way) I took it out. Only to have my natural reflex kick in and take a big gulp, of salty sea water. I immediately stuffed the mouthpiece back into my mouth, looked around, no one noticed. read more

This was my first time scuba diving, and I'm so glad I went with Erik and his team. I am not a strong swimmer by any means, so I made sure to ask tons of questions during my reservation call as well as the confirmation follow-up call. Both Jeff and Erik answered my questions graciously and patiently. At the actual dive, I had a full on panic attack when I jumped in the water and broke down and cried. It was not my finest moment, but Erik convinced me to conquer my fears with a little tough love and get my head back in the game. I'm so glad I did! I got to swim in a school of fish and interacted (respectfully) with a giant sea turtle...three times! I didn't go through with the second dive (they are 30 min each), but my friend Camellia C. did and she saw little sharks and many more beautiful sea life. Tips: 1. Take anti-nausea medication or ginger snaps because the boat can get somewhat rocky. 2. Eat something light before hand, not curry udon like I did. I threw up six times (again, not my finest moment) and now I can never have curry udon again. 3. Practice mouth breathing through the regulator. Bonus points: you'll feel badass like Bane. 4. I was a bargain hunter and a first time diver. Mom, boyfriend and I went to Hawaii without any planning so since Oahu Diving was the #1 activity on Tripadvisor and the price is really low and include the gears and underwater picture (most companies charge extras) I called the day before the day I want to scuba dive, Erik was able to squeeze the three of us in for an afternoon dive on our last day in Oahu. Wonderful! With Oahu Diving, you get to dive in two diving sites. I followed Erik the first time and got some really great pictures taken. We saw two big sea turtles and many colorful fish and Octopus! I followed Jeff the second time. Jeff does not take a lot of pictures, but he will take you further away from the intinitial site and explore. Erik was a exellent instructor, explained things really well, and he was really considerate. He did a good job observing everyone in the team in the water. And he was really good at taken pictures. Another thing that I appreciated very much was that when my mom was not able to dive down with us (more on that later), I was already in the water, I was concerned when I saw both instructors in the water but without my mom, Erik sensed my concern and let me know she was OK and was staying up there. On our second dive, we tried again and this time I followed my mom. Mom was still having problem with the pressure on her ear but Erik was able to take some really great picture of us together before sending her back to the boat. So mom was having problem in the with pushing the air in her ear out to balance the air pressure and it get to a point that it hurt pretty bad. After we got home, we discussed and concluded that it was because the rubber part of her diving mask was too soft that it lets water in when she tries to blow air out. Her diving mask was different from everyone else's coz it was the last one left. It was white unlike the heavy duty black color ones everyone else was getting. SO GRAB THOSE BLACK DIVING MASKS!!! Mom stayed on the surface and had a great time swimming with Captain Joe's two super cute American-Japanese daughters!! I wish I was less shy that I could have asked to take pitures with them!! Erik and Joe one of the friendliest people I met on the island. They have no hidden agenda and genuinely want you to have a good time. I went on first-time diver's package and had a wonderful experience. Started off with an explanation of the equipment and proper use. Then they let us sit on the front deck or top of the boat as we cruised to the 1st dive location. Since we had a small group, Erik took us down on a 30+ minute dive at the first location. Saw plenty of fish, coral, giant clam, and hung out with a sea turtle. Since the first dive use more to get us comfortable, we went to "the wall" for our second dive. We spent another 30+ minutes at the wall. There we saw more turtles, a moray, eels, and plenty of other fish. A must do experience for anyone!!! And if you are thinking about another company, FORGET IT. Reasons why you should go w/ Erik and Joe. 1. Erik takes plenty of pictures for FREE!!! Erik emailed me 33 pictures (not just one or two). No nickel and diming you. 2. Water and drinks on the boat for FREE! 3. They take you to TWO diff dive locations (while most take you to only one). 4. One word: awesome! Dove with these guys last week, and it was a great experience. My girlfriend had never dived before, and I'd gone about five years since my last dive, so we figured a beginner dive would be good for both of us. Erik was running the show and did a great job. He explained all the basics on the boat ride out to the first dive site. They do small groups, so you get a lot of individual attention (there were six of us to two instructors). They also take pics and video on the boat and under water that they'll send you for free after the dives, which is a great bonus. Of the six divers on the trip, two of us were certified, and the other four were beginners. I was very impressed with how quickly Erik made everybody comfortable with the scuba gear and with being under water (either that or everyone was really good at hiding their terror....). While visiting Hawaii for work (terrible right) I had some unplanned free time and didn't know what to do. After doing some research between fishing and Diving I decided to go for diving since I've never done it before. I filled in my info on the website and requested to get into the session the next day. Thinking it wasn't going to happen Erik emailed me late that night telling me to call him first thing in the morning. after a brief conversation he was able to squeeze me in. I had a blast the guy is top notch and knows what he is doing and made the whole trip enjoyable. We even got to see some incredible ocean life(turtles and even a few sharks) If I get back to Hawaii I will be taking another Dive with Erik. read more

Went diving today with Oahu Diving. It was a great experience. Their refresher course for PADI certified divers was very brief and a good quick review. I went along with 3 other friends who were not certified and they were quickly shown the ropes. Eric was great, albeit some of the instruction for the uncertified were a bit too brief, IMO. However, my friends and I were definitely satisfied. We did 2 dives, maybe 30-45 mins each. Highlights were being able to see some sea turtles, a moray eel, a razorfish, and a devil fish. We did some "cave diving" as well, though that was brief. All in all, it was a fantastic experience and I think I'll be diving with them again while I'm still here! Highly recommended! As a side note, their website mentions the "use" of a digital camera underwater - what this means is that Eric has the camera and shoots pics of you, your group and whatever interesting things there are. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about that. It made things much easier! read more

I'm probably one of the last people on earth that should have ever gone diving! Not a huge fan of fish, deep water or even snorkeling! Luckily, my husband convinced me to do it and I am so glad that I did. It turned out to the one of the best parts of my trip to Oahu. Erik is one of those people that truly loves what he does and you can see it. He took time to explain the dive and answer any questions that came up. We also got to test out the equipment to get comfortable with it before going down. By the time we actually went into the water I felt like a pro. A BLAST!!!! I have always wanted to try scuba diving, and I figured being in Hawaii was the best time to do so! Thanks to yelp and tripadvisor, I found Erik and Ana. And boy, was I glad I did! First off, I am not the strongest swimmer out there. Actually, I don't even swim that often to say that being in the water is my hobby. Honestly, I was pretty nervous while we were still on the boat. As soon as Erik was going over safety procedures, underwater hand signals, and the basics to scuba diving, my fears immediately went away. This was my first experience with scuba diving, and I felt very safe with Erik and Ana. While we were underwater, they always made sure we were okay before proceeding. I loved that about them! One of my biggest fears prior to doing this dive was struggling underwater and getting left behind. Well, not with Erik and Ana! Now, I can't wait to go get certified! If you're really wanting to try scuba diving and are not certified, do it with Oahu Diving! It'll be the highlight of your trip to Oahu! read more

Wow this was an unforgettable experience! 5 stars is not enough. I can't imagine doing my first dive any other way or with anyone else. Erik was very patient and knowledgeable. He explained the equipment, what to expect, and what to do in different scenarios. He answered all questions and had a really calming presence, which came in handy when I got scared at the bottom. He eased us down slowly on a rope and checked in frequently to make sure everyone felt okay. As he warned us, the breathing takes some getting used to, which is why I'm so glad there was a second dive! I felt much more confident the second go around and it made all the difference. He guided us around the ocean floor, pointing us in the direction of many sea turtles, starfish, trumpet fish, parrot fish, and so much more. Erik took incredible photos of everyone, too, so my family and friends were also blown away by this experience. If you've ever wanted to try scuba, you MUST go with Erik at Oahu Diving! read more

My fiance and I were on Oahu for 10 days and wanted to go scuba diving. I spent some time looking for a guide and came across Oahu Diving. It was definitely worth it. Erick was a great guide and it was an experience of a lifetime. This was the first time we have ever gone scuba diving and we will do it again after this time. The first 5 minutes were very nerve racking but you have to push yourself past that and keep on going. Erick's cool and calm personality was a big plus in making our first diving experiencing great. I would most defintely recommend Oahu Diving to anyone willing to take a chance and try scuba diving for the first time. Another big plus was the great pictures Erick took during over dives. Awesome doesn't begin to cover our experience with Oahu Diving with Erik as our dive MASTER. Two amazing dives capped off with our free underwater photos was so helpful where other places try to trap you into paying more and more for photos. My girlfriend and I have both done discovery diving at other places before and this was our best experience by far. HIGHLY recommend! Awesome first diving experience!!! Erik is a very nice guy. He makes sure the trip is safe and fun for everyone. I was there with my boyfriend. It was our first time to try out. We were nervous at first. But everything is very safe and there actually staffs taking care of you underwater too. They are always making sure that you are okay under the water. My husband and I had a great time with Oahu Diving! I was really nervous about the whole thing (all of these horrible scenarios kept flashing through my head) but I am so glad we went. Jeff and Erik made sure everybody was comfortable right from the start, and they kept an eye on us throughout. You could tell safety was a priority but the overall atmosphere was about having fun. They told us what we needed to know and they checked our skills individually but they wasted no time getting everyone into the water. On the boat ride, we were encouraged to sit on the roof or on the front of the boat to get better views. And the dives were wonderful! We had gone snorkeling at Hanauma Bay the day before but it was just a completely different experience. We saw lots of fish, a couple of turtles on our first dive (including the biggest turtle I have ever seen) and an octopus on our second. Jeff and Erik got pictures of it all and they sent out the pictures the very next day! We had a lot of fun looking through the pictures and reliving our dives. Some of my favorite Hawaii photos are from their set. Overall, it was a great experience at a reasonable price, especially considering that it included all of the gear, two dives, a boat ride with beverages offered, tons of free pictures, and a shuttle to and from our hotel. Compared to the many other places in Honolulu that will charge a little too much for just about everything, this place offers a lot of bang for the buck.
