Our group had 5 people including us, all first timers. We got on a boat with a few other divers and instructors (all from different diving companies). The boat ride was roughly 20 mins out and we had 2 separate diving sessions, about 20 minutes each. The first session was mainly for us to get used to the gears and equipments, especially at equalizing our ears and breathing through a tube. Right after the 1st session Erik had our oxygen tanks refilled and ready to go, the 2nd session was much easier for us to dive into. Erik is super chill and passionate about scuba diving, he is also a great teacher. He took great pictures of us during our dive and emailed them to us that same night. We had a blast and definitely recommend going with Oahu Diving if you are a first timer!

He had absolutely no patience and was openly unprofessional, not just with us but in the way he interacted with others as well. There was no concern for how unsafe the situation was, no accountability, and no attempt to make things right. For an activity where safety, trust, and professionalism are critical, this operation fell short on every level. We paid nearly $700 and walked away feeling stressed, unsafe, and completely disappointed. I would strongly caution newer or less experienced divers before booking here. This is not the kind of environment where you feel supported or safe.

Lava tubes were gorgeous, but it was hard to appreciate them during fast moving up and down. As a result, I didn't have enough time to equalize and at some point I wasn't able to descend below 40ft. My ear became clogged and with some pain. We had to cancel diving next day because of this (which usually to late to get a refund) with other dive center. Boat is USCG verified (right in front of us), but toilet is liquid-only and it took some time to run a boat after last dive and get back to the harbor with a turtle speed. During the dive, one of divers harassed turtle by touching it while she went to surface to breathe. Turtle had to do it quickly and descend right away. Dive master didn't say about it, like it was okay. It was not okay at all!

Whereas other shops wanted to charge me for a full on course, Captain Maddie set me up with her dive-master sister, Ashley. Ashley did a refresher on our way out then made sure I had a great, safe experience for my first time back in the water, taking me on two shallow reef dives. We saw so many turtles, eels, a shark and several octopuses (Ashley has an incredible eye for spotting them). I had such a great time I booked another dive. This time, noting my comfort level, Ashley took me on two deeper wreck dives. They were spectacular. I'm so grateful I found Ruckus, Maddie and Ashley. I woke up early TWICE and showed up at the boat as scheduled, only to find no crew, no operation, and no explanation or communication when calling and texting. I have great screenshots to document this, it would be quite laughable if they didn't steal my money! They messaged me once with vague, incomplete information that didn't clarify anything--then completely stopped responding. I called, emailed, and texted multiple times, but was ignored every step of the way- just an automated message which begins "Aloha!" This isn't just bad customer service--it borders on a scam. They take your money and disappear. If they respond to this review, it will be ironic to only respond to customers when their reputation is at risk--because apparently, the only thing they value more than your money is their online reputation. Avoid Dive Center Hawaii at all costs. They will exploit people by taking their money and disappear. That's how theft works, I suppose. To profit through deceit is to build on sand; collapse is not a question of if, but when.

It was the best decision we could have made. General practice physicians are not going to help you when you tell them a patient is dehydrated or lacking nutrition because they've lost their appetite due to stomach illness. They will just say eat and drink more, not helpful for someone w/nausea. I watched my mother suffer for months and no one would intervene with a solution. We found our own solution at Ocean Therapy. They were easy to schedule and came to our home, really helpful if you have mobility issues. Our nurse was Renee, she was amazing. Knowledgeable, compassionate, and so very competent. We are scheduling another session, and will continue to turn to Ocean Therapy for our IV care.

We're not the only people he has done this to.
