It's nothing fancy inside, but if you love Italian food you will love this place. They make one of best baked ziti's I ever had! If you love baked ziti you have to order it here! The pasta pescatori is another excellent dish here to try as well. The food doesn't come out fast so be prepared to wait, and their servers don't speak English well so that can be a bit frustrating. Really fantastic, low-key spot in Cranford that's sure to please any palate. I was in a party of 7 coming in to celebrate joint birthdays with my brother (along with his family and my folks). We were treated to some freshly baked bread and then a gorgeous platter of a wide assortment of goodies, like: mortadella and various other meats and cheeses, charred octopus, fried whiting, double-decker grilled cheese, fried calamari, mussels in tomato sauce, eggplant rollatini, fried shrimp, and clams casino. All just scrumptious. We probably could have stopped there (and maybe should have lol), but we then ordered some Arancini (2x per order, but easy to share halves, etc.), Pasta Pescatore (Shrimp, clams, calamari & mussels, prepared with wine & plum tomatoes with garlic sauce), osso buco and rack of lamb (both specials), a side of meatballs (2x per order with a nice amount of ricotta, but yeah, like the arancini, very shareable). The arancini and meatballs were amazing, osso buco was super super tender and packed with flavor...everything was just fresh and delicious. Great food, friendly staff. A friend of mine went last Friday and the female server couldn't even describe how the octopus was prepared. Couldn't speak English. Super happy belly happening right now. The great is the food for sure. My son ordered fettuccine Alfredo and got a truly giant plate with no less than a lb of pasta and a half lb of cheese. The plate you see is after he ate it and we all had big tastes. One of the best of this classic dish I've ever had. The chicken francese was excellent and the pasta sauce for the side was awesome. Kids portion was huge too and the chicken parm sandwich was met with praise also. One star off for the very annoying plastic on the table cloths that sit on your legs and make them sweaty. The music is a bit loud for me. When we walked in, we were greeted immediately and taken to sit down, which was appreciated. We ordered our food and were pleasantly surprised by it, especially since we ordered with dietary restrictions and those aren't always paid attention to. The place itself is clean and cozy with casual vibes. Pros: - Food is great - Clean bathroom - BYOB (based on the couple we observed right next to us) Cons: - Space is small, so as they get busier, it gets packed and the space feels "tight" - Bathroom is located close to the register and by where the servers plug in orders, so it can get crowded in that tiny area - Servers seemed to prioritize other customers and we had to call their attention to us a few times Overall, the food made the experience worth it. Food is usually good (though there's been burnt pizzas in the past) , and the owner and staff certainly try to be nice. But today was when I realized I was done with this restaurant. I understand they're busy on Fridays, no big deal. I call my order ahead. Go to pick it up at the suggested time 30 minutes later. Cashier is making lots of small talk with the guy in front of my while I'm waiting for be helped 10 minutes. Then an elderly man comes in while I'm still waiting behind the one person in front of me taking forever, he complaints about some delivery issue so the owner (I think) grabs a plain pie to give to him. They finally get to me after and my pastas ready but my pizza was just given away. My pasta gets cold while waiting for a new pizza. I'm offered a new pizza and see that a third of it is blackened burnt. I decline it and receive an apology, and get a new pizza (this one undercooked but that wasn't a big deal either). Owner apologizes and in addition to the food I'm already holding, offers me the burnt pizza and a dessert. I'm grateful and thank him and pay quickly to get home and finally eat after the long wait. Then as I'm walking to the car I realize I was overcharged, I think paying for the dessert that I was offered. Each issue in itself isn't a the end of the world but everything today made a really aggravating experience. Wish them luck but won't be back. read more

He serves seafood dishes you just can't get around here, much less at this quality. His mussels fra diabolo are to die for, plus dishes like his seppia (cuttlefish) salad and his scungilli marinara are over the top fresh. If seafood is not your vibe, try the bolognese - killer. His carbonara is made with real deal guanciale, a serious upgrade over pancetta. This is way more than a pizzeria, although if that's what you're in the mood for, his Margharita pie is fantastic! Stuffed lobster, bronzini marechiara, and snapper livornese let you know the seafood is fresh and always consistently good. Make a reservation as the weekends can fill up quickly. We were looking for some Italian comfort food on a rainy dreary day, but we weren't in our usual neighborhood so I found this restaurant on Yelp. It was a good find. I just don't think it's the best place for vegetarians. After we ordered they brought us a complimentary antipasto board. At first I noticed the salami and said that we don't eat meat, but everything else on the board was vegetables and cheese so we just didn't eat the meat. We had also ordered the artichoke francaise appetizer. It was unique and delicious. For my main course I ordered the gnocchi. I had asked the waitress whether the sauce had meat and she said no. After it was served I found meat in it. The manager (owner?) said they use the same sauce they use for their Sunday gravy which it sounds like is cooked with meat in it so a small piece made its way into the dish. He remade the dish for me but I think still used the same sauce. I should have specified at that point to just use the marinara or something else. (I must say it was delicious!). The restaurant is small and cozy with Italian music appropriately playing - but quite loudly. Overall it was a good restaurant and a good experience but if you don't want meat be sure to be very specific. read more

They brought me the wrong pasta (penne) and peppers on the chicken dish. They did politely bring out a bowl of linguine when I let them know that I got the wrong pasta, but the waiter didn't come back for a while so when I noticed the peppers and wanted to let them know and ask them to remove.. I ended up eating around them because my food was getting cold and the waiter wasn't coming out for a while. Waited 50 minutes for calamari and my pasta came 5-10 min after my veal (Which was undercooked). Our waitress didn't come over once to tell us there was a delay nor check med with us once we got our food. We tried out this place by ordering pizza takeouts (Mediterranean pizza) which were consistently delicious. So we decided to dine in. For appetizers, we got the arugula salad and calamari. The salad was fresh and the dressing was refreshing. For the calamari, the rings were crispy outside and tender inside. We also ordered the mussels one time but the portion was too big for two and not our favorite. For pasta, we tried Salsiccia Con Broccoli Rabe and Linguine Vongole. The pasta was cooked al dente and the sauces were delicious. For entrees, we ordered Chicken Cleopatra and grilled swordfish. The chicken dish was tasty. The doneness of the swordfish was perfect, but the grill mark tasted a bit bitter. Also, it would be better if it came with some kind of dipping sauce to enhance the flavor. Overall, we liked most of the dishes, especially the pasta! Some places precooked their pasta and just heated it up before serving, which made the pasta saggy and no texture at all. Not here. They knew how to do it. The pasta was cooked to perfection and served al dente. The service was warm and the atmosphere was pleasant and welcoming. Frank, the owner, was always there to welcome customers and make sure they were happy. I appreciate this kind of neighborhood hospitality! My mom lives in Clark and I wanted to take her and my wife to lunch. I have tried other pizza places in the area and I asked for something new. My mother said she tried O Sole Mio recently after they took it over from the previous owners and renamed the place. the owner, Frank, told my mom, Rose, that she was the first customer so hopefully she brings him luck. Anyway, we are in the restaurant and was greeted by Pat from behind the counter. He made us feel like we knew us for years. I always judge an Italian restaurant by its red sauce. Theirs was perfect. Nice and sweet. I ordered the sausage and Broccoli rabe, my wife had the grilled chicken and vegetables, and my mom had the Grandma pizza. Everything was delicious. The sausage was high quality and not something from a supermarket. The broccoli rabe was perfectly prepared with just the right amount of garlic and oil. The grilled chicken was seasoned just right and the vegetables were tender. The pizza was delicious as well. Definitely returning to this restaurant from now on. read more

As we stated then, the pizza was excellent but we were concerned about two tax charges that seemed unusual to us. Our review reflected that concern. We have since visited the restaurant again and were approached by the owner because his intuition correctly identified us as the authors of what is apparently the only review on Yelp that is less than four or five stars. We learned that he purchased the business from another owner and was in the process of changing things to reflect the way he intends to run the restaurant. This is a complex process and it is understandable that a few details might be overlooked. The cash register was already programmed with these unusual charges. We are therefore delighted to report that the "tax charges" issue has been corrected. The owner showed genuine and polite concern that our objections were addressed to our satisfaction. He is a super nice and honest businessman who deserves your patronage. And I want to assure you that the food is excellent and very high quality. We are looking forward to another visit and are eager to enjoy entrees in the dining room. I wish I could delete the other review but it is now four days too late to modify it. read more

This place is a hidden gem! One would never expect such a fine dining experience when entering this quaint, though unassuming, restaurant. The grilled octopus salad appetizer was fresh and perfectly seasoned, My daughter loved her seafood pescatore and had plenty left to take home and my wife loved her lobster ravioli. I had the grilled swordfish special which came with a portion that was literally as big as my forearm and grilled to perfection. Best version of that dish I've ever eaten.
