The place itself is small and cozy, perfect for a casual bite. The person behind the counter was friendly and welcoming, which added to the overall positive experience. I came into Big Apple after taking a yoga class up the street so I had a big appetite! As soon as I walked in I was greeted by their friendly cashier and the inside was very clean. She explained each of the slices they had because they had a good amount of non traditional slices (loved that)! I ordered a regular cheese slice and their cheesesteak slice. It was a reasonable price for sure especially considering how large the cheesesteak slice was. They have me a cute little to go box, which I appreciate over the brown bags so that oil doesn't seep through as I made my commute. Both slices were really good. I'd be curious to see what a fresh slice of their cheesesteak pizza taste like because I'm sure the cheese would be extra gooey. Thanks Big Apple pizza! read more

Ordered from Big Apple for the 1st time tonight. You use the online ordering option. Very good Veggie pizza. I also liked it because it was very easy to order exactly what we wanted. You also receive emails when your order was received, that your order is in process and finally when your order is available for pick up. We had the Gourmet Veggie Pie ($17) & a Large Plain Pie ($12.50). The only issue is the parking as there are not many spots available at dinner time on the street. They do have delivery though & coupons on their menus. This place was well staffed with very helpful & friendly staff (unlike other pizza places where they appear to feel "bothered" when you interact with them. Update: (10/21/17) We ordered the gourmet buffalo chicken pie tonight, it definitely has some kick to it but at $23, I think it's way too expensive for what you get. The mushroom pie at $15 is also good and priced appropriately. read more

I love Big Apple! Their pizzas, salads, and subs are very tasty and their quality is consistantly good. Their pizza is better than other places in the area, in my opinion. Big Apple always delivers quickly, and the food is always hot and fresh. Their pan pizzas are my favorite because the crusts are so buttery and thick. They offer whole wheat crust as an option for their gourmet pizzas, which is great for when I'm trying to pretend that pizza is healthy haha. No, but seriously, I've found that most pizza places don't make a whole wheat crust, so this is really nice. They have a pretty impressive menu, which includes a number of Italian entrees. Ordered two pies on a Friday night. Placed around 550 and received an hour later. Pick up was slated at 630. Yes its busy and yes i totally get it and was patient. But.. I used to love big apple but lately they are hit or miss! I ordered a 2 personal pies, a pepperoni calzone, and then called backed a second later and got a different person at the register and added wings and a chicken Cesar salad. She reads back the entire order and it's correct when I get the order there is no chicken on the Cesar, the personal pie crust was paper thin and floppy. It was super light so I assume a few more minutes in the oven would've done it. The calzone was delish but only pepperoni in the center so just inconsistent really more of a tedious pain to eat than anything. What really frustrated me was when I called about the salad being incorrect. I asked if they can send another one correctly and she told me she'd have to charge me the delivery to send out the driver again and she read back the order and it was correct. That may be but it wasn't correct when I received it. Just overall sucky customer service which is what I told them and they hung up on me. If you can eat in I definitely recommend because anything unsatisfactory can be taken care of right there! read more

I made an order on Friday evening and went to pick up the order after being told 25 minutes and showing up 30 minutes later, then the time changed. The young lady at the counter attempted to help, by finding out the time until the order was ready. Then one of the pizza makers began to scream at her, just for asking a question on the wait time. Then raised his voice at me for simply checking in for the order that was already overdue. This then escalated into a screaming match where he then canceled my order which apparently he hadn't even started. I was a loyal customer ordering multiple times per week, and now see that I need to transition to Vinny's as respect is also important to this patron. read more

We ordered our pizza online around 9:20pm. I got a notification that our food was sent out for delivery around 9:50pm. In the notes, I put the access code for the building so they could get inside. Around 10:30pm we started to wonder what was going on. My girlfriend went to look outside while I tried to call the store (even though now they were closed) and no answer. We both haven't eaten all day and we're worried the driver just went home and never showed up so we ended up walking around the building again before going around the corner to pick up food. We came back within 10 minutes and still, we checked and nobody was around. All the sudden, there was a knock on our door and it happened to be a disrespectful delivery boy who just opened the bag and made me take the food out of the bag for him. We called the store the following morning to complain because the pizza was frozen cold and the other food we got was soggy and clearly was miss treated since it was all fallen apart. I spoke to a completely rude and unprofessional manager who told me it was my fault and that I should be more responsible. This is coming from the guy who didn't even apologize for the mix up and who is representing his bosses business. He then also told me that there are several addresses under my phone number (even though he confirmed delivery to the right address) and that I should stop ordering from so many places. I can't believe he would say something like that because all I'm doing is giving this place business. Safe to say, I'm done ordering here after this. Edit: Also forgot too add that the keypad to get inside the building has a directory with my name (same name on the order) to call my phone in order to buzz someone in. I grew up in Central Upstate NY and have been looking for a pie similar to our regular pizzas. Thinner than Sicilian, thicker than regular crust in NJ, made in a pan and not greasy (I know, a lot to ask). I finally found it!! Most NJ pan pizzas, outside of Pizza Hut, seem paper thin and not what I was looking for though tasty. I ordered for the first time (Kenilworth) the Vodka pan pizza and it was so delicious! I see in reviews that many here call it deep dish (different than true crust of a deep dish), but it isn't... The crust and sauce were fantastic. Next time I will add basil or try another. Delivery was less than 1 hr over lunch time. Also felt like it was cooked perfectly for me. read more

Web page lets you put in special directions of how you want your food prepared! Pizza Is excellent. I've been a loyal customer of Big Apple FOREVER, specifically the Kenilworth location. I moved recently so I started ordering from Cranford because it's closer, but never again! Their customer service is trash. It was a Friday so I completely understand being slammed & my order arriving late. Unfortunately, I did have somewhere to go very soon so I called to try and cancel. They told me the delivery was basically about to be out the door. Ok at this point I'll wait. When the pizza comes, it's completely wrong. Like, literally neither half was correct, and I don't think it was that difficult. Half margarita, half pepperoni peppers and onions. We ended up getting some clusterfuck of those two halves, and with 0 pepperoni. As I said, I was already running late, so we decided to just call and hopefully get a credit or something. The man on the phone said that WE were wrong and his cooks said they made it correctly. OBVIOUSLY they're going to say that, the fuck? Then he proceeds to tell us they'll make us another pizza and get it to us within 15 minutes (literally not possible, mind you the original pizza took an hour and a half) and TAKE BACK the first pizza because that's how much they didn't believe us that it was wrong. The whole thing was EXTREMELY weird and for the 20th time, I was in a time crunch and didn't have time to fight this dude on the phone. This place opened up just a few weeks ago, and i happened to see it while i was walking by to pick up lunch. So glad i decided to stop in. They have a lot of variety of pizzas, as well as other items (calzones, rolls, etc). I picked two pizzas, the chicken francaise, and one with the cheese on the bottom and sauce on top (forgot the name). Both were really good, nice crust, great flavor, and they tasted fresh. Place was busy, but everything moved fairly quickly. Can't wait to go back and try some of the other pizzas! read more

We visited Cransford last week, and while walking I mentioned I was in the mood for pizza. A woman crossing the street enthusiastically recommended Big Apple Pizza. She under-sold this place. The pizza was delicious and the staff was friendly. As a tourist, I was thrilled to experience quality pizza in local small pizzeria. The restaurant was clean and the table service was prompt. This had to be the worst pizza I had ever received. Typically everything I get from Big Apple is great. But tonight it was terrible. First I was delivered a personal veggie pie and it had no cheese or sauce! So I called up right away and explained the situation. I was told I had to get there quickly for the new pizza because they were closing. So I rushed over, gave the original pizza back and received the new one. After getting home I saw the new pizza. It was covered in cheese! At least three times as much as a normal pie. I couldn't believe it. Like I said, this has never happened before. Not even one mistake before prior to this night. It looked like they just dumped handfuls of cheese on top. It was disgusting. This one mistake cost them two loyal customers. My girlfriend and I have already found another delicious pizza spot and will never go to Big Apple Pizza again. read more

Nailed it! I'm always reluctant to try new pizzerias because I typically end up being disappointed. I lived in Brooklyn for a while so finding a good grandma pie in New Jersey is challenging. I gave Big Apple pizzeria a shot because my regular pizzeria was closed. Surprise- Their grandma pie is excellent! Thin, crispy, a good amount of sauce and not overloaded with cheese.
