Called me, her granddad, and of course I went down there to help. I brought some tools and a voltage meter with me. First thing, Checked battery output voltage with a voltage meter and reading was around 11.6 volts. Not a terrible reading but the engine wouldn't start. Not even crank. Made sure battery terminals were on tight, Did tighten one, but engine still not starting. Had jumper cables. Jumped started car! Nice. Checked battery voltage again, reading 13.6 volts. Checked for date on battery, hmmm- 2018. Six or seven years old depending on the month. Time for a new battery. With car running, granddaughter and I drove to Advanced Auto on 4018 Washington Road and Flowing Wells, just across the street from Gerald Jones Auto Group mall. It was our lucky day! On duty was the most friendly and knowledgeable sales associate you could ever meet, Allie,. Allie just knew exactly what to do- check battery terminals, check, look over battery for any bulging areas, yes one side is slightly different, get battery testing machine- hmmm- battery showing not good- Replace. Now most people would say "well it started with a jump, so maybe the battery just needs a good night's change to bring it back to life. Well, maybe that would work, but battery is over Six years old, car driven for school and work by a young woman, and let's face it- do you really want your granddaughter to get stuck somewhere at night? So we bought a new battery. Now sales associate Allie, really knew her stuff. Got the correct battery and did need some help from sales associate Ken, and not only installed the new battery, but also replaced the nut and bolt on the battery terminal that was stripped and could not properly tighten the battery terminal. Allie did her work in a most professional manner with a friendly smile! Advanced Auto is lucky to have Sales associates like Allie and Ken. I recommend that if you need a battery replacement or any other service required parts, and looking for great customer service then I heartily recommend going over to Advance Auto Parts on 4018 Washington Road in Martinez.

I canceled my other appointment, I showed up Monday only to be told that they couldn't do it and don't know when it could be done by. Even better I ended up with a screw in my tire from going over there, now I have to get my brakes/rotors done AND now my tires fixed... I left this shop with more work needed than I went in for... Don't tell me you can do something then make up excuses when I show up. YOU told me to be there, I showed up and YOU failed.

Only complaint was that I specifically asked that they mount the new tires in front (front tires always wear faster because they are cambered inward to improve turning... check your front tires and you'll likely see the inner tread lower than the outer). Might also note that they installed a "Rocky Mountain" brand, which is of course an off-brand, but they seem very quiet, despite a somewhat aggressive tread. I think they're all made in Mexico these days unless they're Michelins (and who really know where those are truly made) so it's a non-issue. One more story... I went to another local tire shop in Augusta, GA (Marc Yount), and when I went to pay the bill the long-haired, rather large and fat blond-haired jet-ski hippie that owns the place told me "I'm not a fan of the tires you chose." And "you have an axle bearing leak, and I'm not sure what I'll find when we open your pumpkin" (the rear differential). The proposed charge was $2250 to fix these things. I do my own maintenance, so I checked the differential fluid and it was fine. They saw leakage of brake fluid, not differential fluid, which meant I needed to replace the brake server on one side, which I did on both sides. Total cost about $150. No axle seals needed (a major operation), and I'm writing this with over 100k more miles on the car. 4Runners are known for axle seal leaks, so they saw the brake fluid on the inside of the tires and assumed it was the axle seals without actually checking anything else. Beware of this kind of crap, and beware of Marc Yount if you're near Augusta (they're 'uber expensive) - they took me for an idiot, which I am not, but if I was an average guy or gal I'd sigh and pay that price - just to get some new tires mounted. Going back Monday morning to this Discount Tire location for the front tires. Highly recommend this place. They are quick, clean, efficient, HONEST, and won't try to snow you with BS (snow you is a Northern term). They are trustworthy. A customer came in after me and was waited on in less than 2 minutes and they took his vehicle in within 5 minutes of his arrival. It's been 35 minutes since i got signed in and my car is still sitting outside. They close in 20 minutes, yet they tell me it's going to take an hour to rotate the tires. My Air Suspension system was, what I thought malfunctioning, and in need of a replacement. They ran a bunch of diagnostic tests, and determined there was nothing wrong with the air suspension at all. They could have charged me anything, yet chose to be HONEST! They only charged a reasonable diagnostic charge and sent me on my way. What they told us was that the wiring harness under the passenger seat had been chewed by a dog and needed to be replaced for $975. Looks like one of his toys had rolled under the seat and he had been trying to get it. All of our interactions with Gerald Jones have been very good. Just a warning if you have this car and a small dog.
